I'd be curious to know if Peter Potamus' trademark safari jacket and pith helmet were influenced by the likes of juvenile adventure shows of the mid-late 1950's like Ramar of the Jungle, whose title character was so dressed.
One afternoon the Tiny Desk traveled to Emerald City. Or rather, we got to meet the cast of the newest Broadway revival of The Wiz. Debuting in Baltimore, Md. in 1974, the musical unapologetically centered Black culture in its reenvisioning of The Wizard Of Oz and helped usher in a new era of Black theatrical storytelling. In its various stage productions and 1978 screen adaptation, audiences for The Wiz get to see a futuristic and fantastical depiction of the Black imagination. As an 8-year-old, seeing The Wiz ignited my love of musical theater. I have no doubt countless audiences will feel the same joy and awe I felt when this new imagining of The Wiz goes back on tour at the top of 2025.

Bhaktha Padha Seva Trust (BPS), Mylapore, is doing Seva to Bhakthas Padham in this Swamy Alankaram.
Alankaram is taking a Unique Role like how Bhagavan takes Various Avatharas and gives anugragam for many Bhakthas in different Places and these Avatharams are shown as a Prathyahsha Rupa in Our Swamy Alankaram.
First Time in Chennai at Sri Bathrachala Ramar Dharshan…
Folks, the energy in this show BRINGS IT. Absolutely packed house for the pre-Broadway run of The Wiz at the National Theater in DC (I am once again reminding you that DC is the second-best live theater city in the United States, and I've lived in Chicago). The show is very updated for the 21st century and an absolute delight. 24-year-old Nichelle Lewis is Tony-ready, but my favorite was Kyle Ramar Freeman as the Lion. Glad I got to see Alan Mingo, Jr. as the Wiz before Wayne Brady takes over in New York.
This is a very dance-heavy show--that's probably what is most memorable. The Wiz doesn't have a lot of memorable tunes besides, well, the one everyone knows, but the show doesn't suffer for it. It's visually stunning, I liked the use of the AI backdrop, and the show was absolutely hilarious at times.
A few soundboard and lighting goofs, but you will be humming "Ease on Down the Road" for the next year. Since it's family-friendly, and can survive without star power in the leads, I'm sure this show will run for a few seasons.
The 2024 Broadway season is looking really competitive and I'm glad I saw this before it opens in New York!
I've also now added a Shows I Saw in 2023 tag so you can see them all!
I recently found out some sects of Hinduism include Buddha as the 9th Avatar in Vishnu's Dasavatharam.
I am from the southern part specifically Tamilnadu, here even in our temple the inscriptions and statues for Dasavatharam always included Balaramar as one of the Vishnu Avatars, not Buddha. Like in the below order. I have used Tamil pronunciation for all.
Matsyam
Kurmam
Varaham
Narasimham
Vamanam
Parashuramar
Ramar
Balaramar
Krishnar
Kalki
This made me so curious about how different Hinduism practices are around India or the world but still hold a string of similarities among them
Which one you have heard growing up? Put it in the comments.
