tbh i aint got a clue where millwall even is in the south (i feel like that very londoner of me tho skjdhf) but its such a shame that they've got the privilege of going to actual games and still find ways to ruin it. pathetic behaviour honestly
millwall is in london anon 😭😭 that’s iconic tbh!!!! Shut god the whole thing is awful! i never expected much from millwall fans because they’ve always been horrible but this absolutely takes the belt, and i’m happy that skysports/other new outlets are replorting it because every needs to know about their DISGUSTING behaviour. if i was a millwall fan i’d be SO ashamed and i’m glad to see the reaction from derby fans is general disgust.

“Lots of claim and counterclaim at PMQs about exactly what has been said by ministers about the taking of the knee
Therefore worth looking at exactly what ministers and leading politicians have said about it over the past year.
There's no doubt that some Conservative ministers have made clear their dislike of the act over many months.
In 10th June 2020 the PM's spokesperson was asked whether he would take the knee. Response: "All I would say is the PM’s focus is on improving the lives and opportunities of BAME people as part of our levelling up agenda."
This was partly in response to Keir Starmer and Angela Rayner taking the knee on 9th June 2020...
On 18th June 2020 Dominic Raab was criticised for his comments about taking the knee, which he suggested arose from Game of Thrones and was an act of "subjugation."...
Quote from Raab: “I’ve got say, on this take the knee thing – which,I don’t know, maybe it’s got a broader history but it seems to be taken from the Game of Thrones – feels to me like a symbol of subjugation and subordination, rather than one of liberation and emancipation."
The Foreign Sec did later address his remarks in this tweet “To be clear: I have full respect for the Black Lives Matter movement, and the issues driving them. If people wish to take a knee, that’s their choice and I respect it. We all need to come together to tackle any discrimination and social injustice.”, making it clear it was a matter of personal choice.
By contrast, shortly afterwards Education minister Nick Gibb did say he would take the knee "in the right circumstances" as a gesture of anti-racism...
On 3rd July 2020 the Prime Minister was asked whether he would take the knee- he said: “I don’t want people to be bullied into doing things they don’t necessarily want to do" adding “I don’t believe in gestures, I believe in substance."...
So the language of "gestures" to describe the act had some pedigree from the PM himself before the Home Sec ever used it.
The question of whether ministers would condemn fans booing players also has a longer history. In December 2020 Environment Secretary George Eustice was asked about Millwall fans booing players taking the knee. Eustice was critcised for not explcitly condemning that booing- tbf I'm not too sure exactly what he meant by his response, who exactly he was criticising.....
In any event shortly afterwards James Cleverly defended Eustice by saying that "Taking the knee is not for everyone, it's not for me, but it doesn't mean that you are in any way an apologist for racism."..
Crucially Cleverly added he thought booing the players was wrong "It is wrong for the football fans to boo the players, those players were acting in a way that demonstrates a solidarity with those people fighting racism and those who have been victims of racism."
Then we get up to date. On 7th June 2021 the PM's spokesperson said he wanted the whole country to get behind the team but was reported at the daily lobby briefing that No 10 refused to explicitly condemn the booing...
The PM's spokesperson repeated the line that “On taking the knee, specifically, the prime minister is more focused on action rather than gestures" (again, a word which was to become more controversial when used by Priti Patel a few days later)...
By the 11th June however No 10 had become more explicit saying "The PM wants to see everybody getting behind the team to cheer them on, not boo."
But the earlier comments from the PM's spokesperson were similar to those of Priti Patel's on 14/06: “I just don't support people participating in that type of gesture politics" adding on whether it was right for the "fans" to boo that “that's a choice for them quite frankly."
There was more ambivalence in the interim from ministers- on June 11th Gillian Keegan said many of those booing were themselves anti-racist: " I’m pretty sure most of them would like to end racism as well. They disagree there’s different things that people are interpreting."
All of this is a way of saying this issue has had a long pedigree in terms of controversy in how ministers have reacted. And they haven't all reacted the same way, indeed there's been a lot of confusion and mixed messaging. Which is why when the PM said today (14 July 2021) that"We made it absolutely clear that no-one should boo the England team" it is in fact more complicated. No-one ever said that anyone should boo them or other players taking the knee but at times (crucially) at certain times certain ministers (and No10) didn't say they shouldn't.”-Lewis Goodall

jfc the UK is an actual hell island that should have been ejected into the sun, let’s just have a quick glance at the news today:
talks with the EU are once again stalling, and a cabinet minister said government is planning to bring back the parts of the withdrawal bill that break international law
we’re possibly going to crash out of the withdrawal period in a few weeks without a deal
which is why the army are being drafted to import COVID vaccine supplies, because ports will be clogged
a poll suggests 1/3 of people are “unlikely” to get vaccinated against COVID, and nearly a half are worried it’s unsafe
meanwhile, small amounts of football fans have been allowed to attend games for the first time since March - with fans at some games (notably Millwall, of course it’s fucking Millwall) booing players for kneeling in support of black lives matter, with all the racist gammons coming out of the woodwork to support them
and the government minister who said they’re going to bring back the international law breaking bill? in the same interview he said Millwall fans booing should be respected for expressing their view
one of the 13 people deported to Jamaica the other day has apparently tested positive for COVID after arriving in Kingston
The Observer published a transphobic editorial about puberty blockers
and that’s just what I can gleam from the front page of The Guardian

Did your dad not watch football with your brothers when he was at home? Sorry if this is too much, I’m just confused how a Liverpool fan would let his kids support Unifed 😂
being honest? he didn’t really watch football while we were growing up. little story time about my dad, he used to play for millwall’s youth team. if you know millwall, you know they’re a very racist team, my dads a brown immigrant, obviously he wasn’t getting a chance there. then at the same time, my granddad passed away, so my dad quit playing. but hearing stories from his friends, they all genuinely believe he was going to play for the first division, what’s now the premier league, because he was that good, but that didn’t work. when stuff like that happens, it kinda makes sense why he fell out of love with the sport, ngl but it does touch my heart a lil bit that he’s enjoying himself right now even if it makes me want to throw myself off a cliff

Hot Clemson Tigers Football Sunflower Shirt
I think the 4th official was clumsy but someone’s race is about the most easily undefinable trait anyone has.I totally understand that calling someone the ‘black guy’ has some negative historical connotations that calling someone the ‘white guy’ doesn’t have but I struggle to see how this was racist. Feels like it’s wasting time on something when there is so much more actual racism in football that needs addressed.Something that is relatively trivial like this just emboldens the racists like the Millwall fans the other night because it makes them think they were correct because people will ‘just get offended over anything’.

Black and Blue - Paul Canoville
“Paul Canovilles story is one of extreme racist bigotry, shattering career-ending injury, a decline into drug abuse, battles against cancer, family tragedy and a determination to beat the odds.”
This story and biography from Paul Canoville is one that however saddens me when I read the book Black and Blue especially as it centres around racism but also includes the team I have for many many years now supported, Chelsea. The abuse that Canoville was subject to, not only by opposing fans but by his own followers and fans was disgusting, disgracing and inhumane. It baffles me that supporters go to football with so much anger that they then take it out on the BAME community players, despite as I mentioned playing for the team that these fans so dearly follow. It’s crazy!
The extremes that fans and supporters would go to to subject players such as Canoville back in the 70′s - 80′s was shocking. In this short clip Canoville recalls fans coming onto the pitch with pillow cases on their heads and much more. Paul Canoville was the first high profile black player to play for Chelsea when he made his debut at Crystal Palace, what an achievement and moment in history that should have ben celebrated and remembered for all the positive reasons however, even before entering the pitch and kicking a ball Canoville, whilst warming up on the touchline recalls racial slurs, noises and comments thrown at him! What an introduction to the Premier League and for your first debut.
What saddens me more is that we are still hearing of stories like this in 2020. The most recent event happening at Millwall FC at The Den in 2020 when fans were allowed to come back in the stadiums. It was meant to be a moment of faith and belief that football was making it’s comeback from Covid, fans had been absent from stadiums for months on end and finally allowed to come back in small capacities (2,000 fans maximum). Depending on which tier the football club was under. The players since the tragic events involving George Floyd had continued to take the knee in support of Black Lives Matter making a solidarity statement that the league, players and football clubs collectively stand against racism.
As the players took the knee at Millwall FC that evening, a section of the fans begun to boo. This shocked the footballing world and further, making worldwide news, resulting in further conversations to be had surrounding race, equality and diversity within football, but also beyond that as well. It was and isn’t just about football. This goes beyond that, this is a societal issue that football and it’s players across all the national leagues and leagues across the world are trying to implement change with these actions. More must be done and has to be done if we want some real change to be heard and seen.
This is why I am so passionate about the work I create especially since my new directions with my visits to Hackney Marshes. I will begin to explore further afield than just the Marshes, but I have not finished there just yet. There is so so so much more that I want to explore and photograph at Hackney Marshes, but for my future plans I will start to demonstrate my themes across the UK again. Visiting areas in Greater London, Norfolk, Suffolk, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Bristol, Scotland, Ireland, Wales and potentially even further afield than that.

Rooney condemns boos at taking a knee

Derby County’s Colin Kazim-Richards raises his fist as players take a knee before kick-off
Derby boss Wayne Rooney said it was “disappointing and upsetting” to hear some Millwall fans boo players taking a knee at the start of Saturday’s Championship match.
The Den was able to host 2,000 fans for the first time this season after the second national lockdown was lifted.
However, the return of spectators was overshadowed by the pre-match incident.
“To hear that is very disappointing and upsetting for a lot of people,” said Rooney, whose side won the game 1-0.
“I’m pleased with how my team dealt with that. They’ve had to put that to the back of their minds for the 90 minutes but I’m sure it’s something they were thinking about.”
The Football Association and anti-discrimination body Kick It Out have condemned the booing, while Derby forward Colin Kazim-Richards described the incident as “an absolute disgrace”.
Players, officials and staff at Premier League and English Football League games have been taking a knee pre-match since football restarted in June in order to show their support for the Black Lives Matter movement for racial equality.
‘We have come so far but we have so far to go’ – reaction
Former Manchester City and England defender Micah Richards described the incident as “disheartening”.
“How do these fans get allocated to the games?” he said on BBC Final Score.
“There are 2,000 so you can pinpoint the people going. There are no excuses. I am sick to death of talking about this situation.
“It is so disheartening because it is like we have come so far but we have so far to go. I don’t even like talking about the matter. It feels like it falls on deaf ears. It is time and time and time again.”
Former Coventry and Aston Villa striker Dion Dublin, who had a loan spell at Millwall in 2002, added: “They don’t agree with taking the knee, which means they are racist. They don’t agree with Black Lives Matter; that says they are racist to me.
“It says to me that a minority of Millwall fans are spoiling it for a club that is going in the right direction with a tag they have had for years and years and they are trying to eradicate it.”
On Friday, Millwall’s first-team squad issued a statement supporting efforts to rid the game “of all forms of discrimination”.
After Saturday’s match, Lions boss Gary Rowett told Sky Sports: “I’m disappointed that we are talking about that when we should be talking about the fact we are all back and we want to enjoy the football match again.
“The club does an enormous amount of work on anti-racism and the club do a lot of work in the community and there is some really positive stuff, so of course I am disappointed.”
‘We applaud the players for defying the hate’
A Football Association spokesperson said: “The FA supports all players and staff that wish to take a stand against discrimination in a respectful manner, which includes taking of the knee, and strongly condemns the behaviours of any spectators that actively voice their opposition to such activities.”
Kick It Out chair Sanjay Bhandari said he was “saddened” by the booing and praised the teams for “defying the hate” shown by some members of the crowd.
“What this demonstrates is that players are right to continue standing up to discrimination, whether that is through taking the knee or speaking out,” he added.
“The fight for racial equality continues and we will continue to work closely with clubs across the country to tackle discrimination in all its forms.
“We applaud the players for taking a stand and defying the hate shown today.”
The English Football League said: “The EFL continues to support any individual player, players and clubs who choose to ‘take the knee’ in support of tackling inequality in society.
“We are disappointed that a small group of supporters have today chosen to voice their opposition to such activities directly aimed at raising awareness of the fight against racism.”
American football player Colin Kaepernick started kneeling symbolically during the pre-game national anthem in the NFL in 2016, in protest at police violence against African-Americans in the United States.
The Black Lives Matter movement and taking a knee has grown in prominence in the United Kingdom following the death of George Floyd in the US in May, which sparked protests around the world.
The 46-year-old, an unarmed black man, died after a white police officer held a knee on his neck for nearly nine minutes.
