When he finds her she’s hugging herself, head tucked into her knees, and she looks very small. Etho has known Gem for a long time. Admittedly she’s known him longer — she was a fan of his work long before they were friends — but now they’re close as siblings, and he knows that freckled face and those strong arms, the way she moves and jumps and swings an ax. Listen I'm not gonna enter in the race/abuse discourse because I think people have already said most that there is to say about it and they've made really good points abt the characters' backgrounds and how it makes them act and how we the viewers interpret it in context! Like I have nothing more to add to that that hasn't been said already, plainly. But when people talk about blablabla unreliable narrator, you DO have to give it to people because at least in the case of Louis, it's true. He IS an unreliable narrator, he admits to it, in screen, and asks for his initial version of the story which neither him nor we had ANY indication of it being false or untrue or inaccurate, to be scratched from the record and corrected. Like I don't think he's consciously manipulating the interview, I think he's 100% on board with digging as much as possible to find the truth and these moments of clarity are the most genuine and accurate chunks of the story we are going to get out of him. But he IS NOT telling the story accurately, and if he doesn't even KNOW when he has spun a lie around his own eyes, or when he has subconsciously invented a half truth and has forgotten the real stuff already, or when has Armand removed or inserted new memories; HOW can we be sure that anything else that has come from his mouth is true at all? And to that I answer: we can't, and that's the point of the show. That's LITERALLY the final point of the show. Characters and plot are the vehicle with which the authors are moving the audience to this central idea: "memory is a monster", and like monsters you can get close to getting an idea of what they look like, but the more you look the more details you can make out and the more it changes and more horrific it becomes.

neso! i haven’t really thought of this… i just WANT them. anyway, i have a plethora, so let’s just stick to one for the sake of rushing them (not to be rude or anything… i just genuinely don’t have the mind power to think about this). layla? definitely at an obscure bakery of some sort to not only avoid the faces of people, but to have peace while we studied. i simply approached her first since i see her often. besides, i bring my puppy everywhere i go, and i can tell with the way she was glancing at her she was extremely interested and had no clue as to how to begin a conversation.
