Since people've been asking you about your thoughts on various media, magical girl-related or not; what're your views on the original Tokyo Mew Mew anime?

It's passable, I guess. I mean, I did enjoyed it back in the days, but now with the reboot, it's just meh.

I grew up with the horrid english dub version, so I used to have a not-so-great perception of the series... took me years to detox myself from the american names (except for "Cyniclons"; I still use that term since the villains are referred to as simply "Aliens" in the original version).

I wasn't really fond of how mean some characters were, like Mint being a snobby brat, Zakuro hurting Mint's feelings with no explanation, and Ichigo being the only one to get a weapon upgrade and the only one to use the Mew Aqua Rod.

I also hated how the fandom would prefer Quiche more than Aoyama as a boyfriend for Ichigo. Like, isn't he trying to kill her and erradicate the human race? Ever since Day One, I knew that this murderous little twink elf was bad news.

The reboot made me realize how much potential each character has, as well as the story as a whole, and the message it's trying to convey to the audience. Like how it could be so much more than just teenage drama, and how refreshing it is that science and magic are combined rather than being separated from one another.

I'm glad the reboot wasn't the same thing as before but in HD; it recontextualizes stuff and adds more layers to characters we already know.

Bigoudi, était peu impressionné par les écrits du chroniqueur Mahieu Cock-Beauté. À ce point-ci, au nombre de feuilles de chou qu’il avait écrites, on aurait presque pu l’appeler un cuisinier de salades. Et c’était toujours les mêmes sujets, en plus! Bigoudi en était sûr. C’était toujours des chiâlages contre le multiculturalisme, l’avancée progressiste féministe, la transformation de la langue et les dégâts du socialisme contre la nation humaine. Tous des sujets entièrement subjectifs dont les critiques ne tenaient que si on ne connaissait pas le sujet… ce qui, admetta-t-il, était sûrement le cas des troglodytes et autres créatures qui aimaient ses écrits.

« Mangez, mon ami » dit Grandoulf. « nous ne sommes pas loin du centre de la Montagne, il vous faut toutes vos forces pour continuer! »

Bigoudi regarda alors leurs rations qui s’amenuisaient. En effet, il ne restait que de maigres restants dont : Un canard cuit dans son gras avec coulis de canneberges sur lit de riz sauvage aux légumes, une poutine aux frites mixtes de patates douces, pommes de terres et navet rissolées dans du gras de canard avec fromage squick squick, certes, mais aussi mozarella, cheddar et émental, avec quelques oignons caramélisés, des poivrons verts, du bacon et des saucisses à l’érable, le tout, saupoudré d’oignons verts, quelques hamburgers de cerfs avec fromage émental et champignons de la Comté à la sauce légèrement piquante, une petite pizza végétalienne à la sauce tomate légèrement sucrée. Il y avait aussi une petite quiche lorraine qui ne pouvait nourrir que 12 personnes, une omelette du Gondor avec quelques épices et pleines de légumes, des petites salades, quelques petits pains moëlleux sur lesquels il était convenu d’étendre quelques fromages de la Comté, soit du cendré, de l’émental, pour garder le terme du repas, du cheddar, quelques chèvres dont le lait provenait de pâturages libres et sécuritaires, un petit fromage crémeux à la figue et un autre à la ciboulette. Un plat de charcuteries accompagnait le tout et pour les desserts, un plat de fondants au chocolat et à la griotte, un petit gâteau aux carottes avec crémage moëlleux, des petits fruits ainsi qu’un gâteau au chocolat blanc et à la framboises et aux bleuets… du menu frottin pour Bigoudi.

Tout en mangeant, Grandoulf regarda autour d’eux. En effet, ils étaient coincés dans un cul de sac. Ils avaient dû prendre le mauvais embranchement dans la mine. Mais leur quête en vaudrait la peine. Ils devaient en effet passer par la Montagne pour arriver aux Royaumes elfes de l’autre côté. Ils auraient alors la protection du grand Thranduil Chomsky.

C’est alors que des pas se firent entendre… mais pas les sempiternels pas suivi d’un Tadros, Tadros… mais des pas humains. Assurés…

Grandoulf se releva… « Mon cher ami! » dit-il à l’étranger.

C’était un grand homme, vêtu d’une robe blanche, le crâne dégarni, les yeux bleus, mais morts à l’intérieur où il y eu, autrefois, une lueur de pertinence.

« Bigoudi, je vous présente Nantelroumane, mon cher ami et maître des magiciens! Nantelroumane le magicien cis-blanc! »

« Allô Bigoudi! »

« B… bonjour. » répondit Bigoudi, un peu sur ses gardes.

« Venez avec moé, j’ai une petite enclave rien que pour moi, ici! » dit Nantelroumane.

Notre groupe se dirigea vers les quartiers du magicien cis-blanc. À son invitation, ils s’assirent dans des chaises hautes, peu confortable, à l’opposé du magicien.

« Que venez-vous faire ici, Grandoulf? » dit Nantelroumane.

« Nous venons pour traverser la mont… »

« Ah, cette sacrée traversée. Vous savez que vous ne pourrez rien dire, ici, right? » interrompit Nantelroumane.

« Euh… » avança Bigoudi.

« Non, vous voyez, les féministes nous interdisent de dire quoique ça soit! La Culture du Viol, la Masculinité Toxique, c’est de la marde inventée par les féministes pour nous responsabiliser sur nos actions, mais… est-ce qu’on veut être responsables? Moi, je sais que je préfère continuer à être offusquer du terme, mais pas des comportements! C’est d’même que ça marche! Quand ma mère était jeune, il fallait qu’elle ait la permission de son mari pour ouvrir un compte… pis elle se plaignait pas! Ça marchait! Bigoudi se tourna vers Grandoulf, effaré. « C’est votre ami, Grandoulf? »

Grandoulf regarda plus attentivement la robe blanche de Nantelroumane… « Heille, c’est pas blanc, ça… c’est… c’est brun laitte! » En effet, des couleurs iridescentes émanaient de la robe à l’allure blanche… pleins de teintes de brun merde, de gris crasse, de vert vomit… toutes des couleurs d’arguments foireux réactionnaires. Le tout se mêlait et se mélangeait à l’étoffe à l’allure propre, mais entachée d’opiniâtreté et de mauvaise foi.

Grandoulf regarda son vieil ami, effaré. « Vous avez vendu votre magie! Votre savoir! »

Nantelroumane les regarda, souriant d’un sourire fendant. « Vous avez enfin compris… vous avez compris que je ne dis ça que parce que tout ce progrès heurte mon confort! Vous pourrez trouver exactement pourquoi dans ce grimoire intitulé « Offensé pour être offensé », disponible aux éditions des Épais Difficiles et chez Gallimarde. » dit-il en se tournant vers une caméra invisible.

Grandoulf et Bigoudi bondirent de leurs chaises.

« Mon brave… ATTAQUE! » cria Nantelroumane.

« TADROSS! TADROSS!!! » cria un être abominable qui se cachait dans l’ombre.

C’était Conspiragollum. Ce dernier s’élança vers eux, sous le regard mesquin de Nantelroumane.

Grandoulf prit son bâton et dit d’une voix caverneuse la formule magique « KELSONTESSOURSSE!!! » Conspiragollum s’élança de l’autre côté de la caverne, criant des injures « MON PRÉCIEUX! MON PRÉCIEUX BITCOIIIIIN! ».

Nantelroumane, lui, était paré et cria la formule magique « GÉRAISONVOICIMONLIVRE! » Grandoulf le para de peine et de misère.

« Je vois que tu as choisi le côté obscur. » dit alors Grandoulf.

« Pas le côté obscur… le côté du plus fort, mon cher ami. »

« Ami de mon cul, oui! » Cria alors Bigoudi, surgissant de derrière Grandoulf en allant puncher Nantelroumane dans l’estomac et en lui disant « Kin, ça, c’est pour toutes les personnes qui vivent des affaires ruff et qui tentent d’améliorer le monde, mais qui peuvent pas parce que ton plus gros problème, c’est que tu te sens offensé. »

Puis, il se retourna vers Grandoulf, lui prit la manche et ils déguerpirent à toute allure.

Grandoulf, dans toute cette folie, avait réussi à déchiffrer la mine rapidement et à sortir de la Montagne de la Moria.

« Ouf… merci, mon ami. Vous êtes vraiment un être surprenant. »

« Surprenant? »

C’est alors qu’une musique, douce, empli l’atmosphère.

« Oui, répondit-il. Nantelroumane pense qu’un grand pouvoir ou de crier plus fort suffit pour contrôler les gens et pour éloigner le Mal, qu’il perçoit comme étant des offenses qu’on lui fait… mais ce n’est pas ce que j’ai découvert. J’ai découvert que ce sont les petites choses. Les petits gestes du quoditien qui tienne le Mal et les injustices en échec. De simple actes de gentillesses et d’amour… eh bien, Bigoudi… je dois vous dire que j’ai peur… et vous me redonner courage. »

Bigoudi ravala ses larmes. « Oh, mon ami. » et ils se firent un câlin de courage.

So in episode 8 the Mews meet that guy who is identical to Masaya and can't tell he's a completely different person until he says something. So similar even Ichigo can't tell them apart!

Kishu only sees Clone man hanging out with the Mews for a few minutes before turning him into a chimera. There is really no reason for Kishu to know this guy isn't Masaya. So does Kishu think he once turned Masaya, host of Deep Blue, into a farting river monster?

On the ship ride back home after the series is he hit with fridge horror over the whole thing? Is he laughing his ass off? Both? Like "omg I can't believe the boss didn't kill me for that one. Hey Pie, Tart, I have got to tell you about this time I turned Deep Blue into a chimera with fart attacks".

Yay! Fair warning, these are all fairly interconnected, as their struggles tie into the themes and lore of the game I was planning on running, but I figure you can pick and choose any parts of it that are helpful:

Sir Avery Raines of the Order of Blessed Trees (he/him). He's any small ancestry (I think kobold is funniest), he's got a big bushy beard (that’s taped on if his ancestry can’t grow one), Perception reveals that his tabard is homemade, History that his order doesn't exist, and Insight that he's scared out of his wits about bears, owlbears, and "tallbears" (whatever the hell those are). He's also the captain of the town watch.

Darryn Landon (he/him), human blacksmith. He's big, he’s handsome, he's strong, he has no idea wtf he's talking about in any situation, but by god is he confident that he does. Too mansplain-y to be an S-tier himbo, but he makes a solid effort.

Gears (they/them), a kenku, so named by the townsfolk since that’s the noise they make when asked their name. The apprentice to Darryn, they're the only one in the smithy who actually knows what they're doing. Their master is incompetent, so they read books by a master smith and spend most of their time practicing on their own and fixing whatever Darryn broke. They briefly considered taking over the shop, but were told in no uncertain terms not to do that.

Kleymer (he/him), a human, and the town drunk who literally sleeps in a ditch. He's the town drunk, you see. That means he has to drink and sleep in the ditch. Even when he's feeling sick and doesn't want to.

Ethel Ito (she/her), the innkeeper. She was a badgerfolk in my setting, not sure how that ancestry would work in yours. She's tall and cheery, and she serves bad food and plays bad music. Perception reveals that she's actually a good cook who knows what she's doing in the kitchen, and has to take time to make the food worse. Insight tells you that this is painful to her. She’s bad at music largely from lack of practice, but she knows better than to try to do that.

Twylla Strudwick (she/her), town baker. She's a mousefolk (do those exist in your setting?) baker, fat with red cheeks (turns out they’re dyed). She was studying to be a wizard, but she doesn't talk about that anymore; bringing it up makes her nervous. She wants to experiment with quiches, and wants the players to fetch some creature eggs from the mountains a day or two away (in my notes they’re peryton eggs, but they could be from anything that’s above-level-appropriate enough that the players would think twice about it or have to be sneaky). When the players get back from Fetching the Delicious Eggs she's visibly terrified, won't accept the eggs, will deny ever asking them for help, will deny that anything happened, and will even say that she hates quiches.

Kalysta Hightower (she/her), a centaur and the town thief. She’s clumsy, constantly breaking things, makes a huge ruckus, and is just terrible at being a thief. But it's her lot in life. She's the thief, you see. People let her steal out of pity most of the time.

Celestine Lachance (she/her), a half elf and the town mayor. She knows she's not the real power in this town, she doesn't know what is, and those two things scare the shit out of her. Corrupt, largely because she doesn’t believe the town can be saved so nothing matters. She likes what little power she has, and she'll cause problems for the PCs if they look like they're going to disrupt her little world. And let’s be honest, all PCs look like that.

Gwendolyn Burton (she/her), a tabaxi and the town hunter. Short, taciturn, says a lot of one-liners but has the abilities to back them up, and almost completely amoral (if you’ve seen/watched The Expanse, imagine Amos if he never met Naomi, but gender-swapped and a kitten). She often leads hunts against tallbears, the tall, thin, horned creatures with claws like knives and frightening intelligence that are occasionally sighted near town. Come to think of it, that usually happens shortly after someone goes missing. Funny that. I'm sure that's just a coincidence.

Baishan (he/him), dragonborn shopkeep. New to the position, but he actually likes his job and leads a happy life! He's pretty overworked so he wants an assistant, but that's a good problem to have, you know?

Ernesto Corvi (he/him), human and (former) guard. One of his friends disappeared a couple days ago, and he was locked up this morning for being drunk and disorderly. Medicine reveals he's stone cold sober.

Apolline Duchamp (she/her), an elf and the local witch. At least, the townsfolk call her a witch. Ancient even by elven standards, she's the last of the elven researchers who lived nearby when the town was first founded. She doesn't live in town, she lives in the ruins of her old research outpost out in the forest where the boundaries between the worlds are thinnest. She mostly wants to be left alone with her experiments and her ghosts, but if the PCs help her with an experiment she’ll owe them a favor.

Vanity (they/them), a tiefling and the leader of the Renegades, the local bandits. They had moved to the town to get away from the bustle of the big city, quickly realized something was seriously fucked in this town, sought out the bandits, and rapidly rose through their ranks. The rest of the bandits have similar stories.

As far as alignment goes, most tend towards neutrality, and the evil ones can be redeemed under the right circumstances. But alignment’s descriptive.

I started writing for a new dnd campaign and I forgot just how HARD it is to come up with names. My notes all just look like:

“(Name of King) in (City name here) will tell the party about (name of wizard) who…”

Which is really not the best.
