Bankhead's father had warned her to avoid alcohol and men when she got to New York; Bankhead later quipped, "He didn't say anything about cocaine and women." (LEGEND)
A prominent American stage and screen actress, Tallulah Bankhead was openly bisexual or, as she called it, "ambisextrous". :) She enjoyed romantic relationships with many women in Hollywood including: Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich, Hattie McDaniel, Beatrice Lillie, Alla Nazimova, Blyth Daly, and Patsy Kelly, as well as writers Mercedes de Acosta and Eva Le Gallienne, and singer Billie Holiday.
Over the course of her career, Bankhead played nearly 300 different film, stage, television, and radio roles, including an award winning performance in Alfred Hitchcock's Lifeboat (1944).
“Inside it’s such a mess: I have so much impostor syndrome. I have so many insecurities. I like to make other people feel happy so there’s less focus on me. I become this loud figure that’s cracking jokes all the time. It comes across as confidence, but at the heart of it, it’s not. Real confidence is something I have to work on daily.”
I'm very very curious. Who is your favorite queer artist? I'm trying to expand my music taste but feel free to take a look at what other folks comment if you want to add more peeps to your own playlist!
