The dead manipulating the living and seeking a willing host in the form of an emotional mage sounds similar to what you could describe an overblot to be... what I want to know is how Briar Valley got this political system in the first place.
Food for thought:
Why hasn't Meleanor, who's already in her 300s before her death, ascended to be queen? Is it because they're waiting for Maleficia to die? Is it because Meleanor isn't as strong as Maleficia yet?
Or is it because Meleanor isn't easy to control? Because unlike Maleficia, Meleanor does not listen to the senate and does things her own way. Because she keeps a filthy bat they hate as her closest aide, because she married a radical who wanted the Fae and humans to coexist?
I want to reserve my judgments until we get explanations in Maleficia's perspective, but for now it's looking like the senate wants Maleficia, old and tired as she is, to stay in power because she has grown extremely weak mentally and is easy to manipulate. That's why they don't want Meleanor to become queen. That's why Meleanor moved out of the capital and built her own castle somewhere far. That's why they want to lock Malleus up in his little tower, because if he goes outside and learns of how the real world works and how disgusting their kingdom has become, they'll have to deal with a young and powerful radical who they would not be able to manipulate to their benefit.
Lilia did great in bringing out Malleus. I think Maleficia has faith that her grandson would be able to do what she couldn't, and that's why she at least fought for him to enroll in Night Raven College even when the senate probably opposes.
Honestly I think this will have a huge plot relevance in the upcoming Book 8 because you do not just introduce a detailed account on an entire country's politics just to trash it after Book 7. This book is extremely, extremely heavy in the sudden lore drop and world building that it would be disappointing not to expand on it and give it a satisfying conclusion.

Miracle with horns
Being the queen and mother of the future king of the Briar Valley, she, like an ordinary person, still wonders how she was able to give birth to her son.
Tumblr media
The majestic throne room of the palace of the capital of the Briar Valley was lit by the soft light of magical torches. The evening breeze gently stirred the heavy curtains, bringing with it the scent of night flowers. You sat on your throne, slightly relaxed, and watched the scene that still seemed incredible to you.
Next to you, on the throne, sat Malleus. His posture was as impeccably royal as always, but now he did not look like the formidable and fearsome ruler that the entire Valley knew. No, now he looked like a father playing with his young son.
The boy, who had inherited his horns and tail, sat delightedly on Malleus's lap, clutching his long sleeves and laughing as his father easily tossed him into the air, only to catch him softly again. Your lips twitched into a smile. It was... strange. Amazing. Almost unbelievable. You turned your gaze to the child, who was now happily clapping his hands, looking at his father with admiration.
You gave birth to him.
You, a mere mortal, an ordinary person, without a drop of magic, somehow miraculously gave life to this little creature with horns and a tail. When you first saw him after birth, the shock was indescribable. Small, but clearly visible horns, a long tail that he twitched comically when he slept... How? How did your body even cope with this?
You blinked and suddenly muttered, not realizing that you were speaking out loud:
- How did I even do this?..
Malleus, who was carefully holding his son's tail so it wouldn't hit him in the face, looked up at you. A spark of amusement flashed in his eyes.
- You say that as if it were something incredible, my queen, - he said softly, still holding his son in his arms. You leaned forward slightly, resting your weight on the arm of the throne.
- But it is incredible, - you said, pointing at the child. - I am a human, Malleus. An ordinary one. Without a drop of magic. And now I have a son with horns and a tail. How on earth did my body manage to produce something so... unique?!
Malleus just chuckled, shaking his head, and with a slight movement, he transferred his son from his lap to you.
- Perhaps because you are not so ordinary, - his voice was filled with warmth. You looked at him, meeting his piercing gaze. His horns cast subtle shadows across his face, and his hand gently covered yours as you held their son's small hand. - You were able to win the heart of a dragon. You became the queen of Briar Valley. Why should our son's horns and tail surprise you?
You bit your lip, unable to find anything to say.
- Mommy is wonderful! - your son suddenly declared, clinging to your hands with his tiny fingers. You blinked, then smiled, holding him close.
- See? - Malleus chuckled contentedly, running his fingers down your cheek. - Our son has already figured it all out.
You sighed, still a little stunned, but already feeling the warmth and confidence that Malleus and your son were giving you. Yes, maybe it really was a miracle. But it was your miracle - and you wouldn't trade it for anything.

Cultural exchange, Malleus x reader.
Sumary: you’re hanging out with malleus, and end up getting to see his more dragon side.
Notes: it can be read as both romantic and platonic, but there is already an established close friendship, as well as I did put a minor sex joke in there but it’s overall pretty innocent.
2.4K words
His bed is criminally soft, the air smells of fire, pine, and comfort, and the dorm room you´re occupied in screams of wealth and status. So of course, this is exactly where you want to spend your afternoons!
Your head rests against the pillow, letting your hair spill out around your face, as you lay on your side in the middle of the queen-sized bed. The view before you is that of the soon-to-be king of Briar Valley’s room. The floors and walls are shrouded in black, making the fireplace at the foot of the bed seem much more powerful. Though his room isn't the most welcoming at first, you've grown used to it and all its quirks- like the tiny stone pieces on the floor, which he drags with him - by accident - while making gargoyles.
You let out a sigh of relief, not feeling burdened by the tall presence behind you. Rather, you find solace in knowing he's here with you, accompanying and protecting you. You roll over and onto your back, in response to him sitting on the edge of the bed.
“it's nice to finally have some alone time, without that weasel constantly complaining in my ear.” You say with a soft content smile, mirroring his own.
“I know how you feel. I'm beyond grateful for the time here at Night Raven Collage, although having Sebek and Silver tailing me at any given moment can be a burden at times.”
You let out a small kind of laugh, finding amusement in the fact that he, too, acknowledges those two and their overprotective nature. Releasing another sigh from your lungs, you close your eyes and bask in the peace of the moment; the bed beneath you lulling you to sleep, yet your mind still drifts.
“I could so live here - it's way better than ramshackle. That much is certain.”
“If it were up to me, you would have already had a room of your own in our dorm.”
“But it doesn't work like that, does it? Crowley wouldn't let me stay here in a million years”
“No, unfortunately not.”
He finishes off before laying down next to you, joining you in simply relaxing in the presence of each other. As tempting as it would be to open your eyes and turn your head to see him lying next to you, sleep is dragging you in.
“You know, all this dorm stuff… It's so weird to me. Where I'm from, we don't exactly have a magic mirror to tell us where we belong.”
"Well I have to admit, it is a bit of an oddity here as well- But how is your world, for it to be so different from ours?”
“I think a very big part of it is that in my world, we simply don't have magic and because of that, anything within the realm of magic is entirely foreign to me.”
“How intriguing… I think it's safe to assume you miss your home?”
“Yeah… the world I'm from is so different to yours… Like, for example, in my world dragons don't exist.” I finally open my eyes and turn to look at him. As I do, I see him quietly laughing.
“Believe it or not, the people of this world believe the same.”
“Really?!... But aren't you like a dragon?”
“To answer your question, no, I am not a full-blooded dragon. Rather, I'm a dragon/draconic fae, the two are different. According to the public, dragons are extinct, and even though I am in direct opposition to their claims, the general knowledge stays the same.”
“Woah… that's… wild?”
“You're right, it is, my Child of Man…”
“... Well, what does it entail to be a dragon fae?”
His gaze, which earlier had been focused on the ceiling, dipped down to meet yours. His breathtaking green eyes are locked on your own, as he gives you a quizzical look.
“What do you mean, Dear?”
You turn to your body to fully face him, as you sit up on the bed, looking down at him and taking in your position looming above him. He lays relaxed against the sheets, with his hands on his stomach. It is a rare sight for many, but not for you.
“Like, what's it like? What differences does it make?...” You shot a look up to his horns “... What does it look like?”
“... You wish to see my dragon form?”
“-YES”
He's taken aback for a second before his face softens into a smile and he laughs, like actually laughs with heart.
“You humans are such curious creatures… I should warn you, that you might not like what happens if you choose to go through with it.” A mischievous - almost playful - smile is spread across his face. It makes you smile too, to see him so genuinely enjoy something.
“And what does that mean? Is that a threat?”
“You'll find out~” There's no way you're backing down now. You wait patiently as he slowly sits up on the bed, his back just a few inches away from the headboard, his back is as straight as ever.
“Where do we start?”
“Well I've already seen your tail once, but I would love to get a chance to see it up close!”
And with that, a tail spins itself around the edge of the bed from where it connects to him. It's as if it was never hidden in the first place, by how you didn't even notice it appeared. It is longer than his legs and it is covered in beautiful black scales, that shine blues and purples in the light, along with a couple of spikes along its back, ending at the tip with a small appendage (look at the picture for reference). Your eyes are busy studying his tail, while his eyes are busy studying you.
“... Wow… Can I touch it?”
“Go ahead… But be careful, one wrong move and it could easily fling you across the room.”
“You wouldn't do that, would you?”
“Maybe,” He says with that same grin on his face. He clearly wouldn't do it. He's just saying it to tease you. Taking his advice, I carefully reached my hand towards his tail and he so graciously moved closer to me- to the point where the end was touching my thigh. The scales are smooth and cold, yet I can feel the warmth from underneath them, it's a similar feeling to holding a snake yet way bigger- and that it belongs to one of my close friends. My hands trail across its length, admiring the intricacies as I run my fingers up the sides of one of the spikes, gently tapping the tip when I reach it to see how sharp it is. When retracting my finger, it was wholly intact. The spikes aren't particularly sharp.
My eyes met his once again, he wore a face of satisfaction as he observed me.
“I was right. You didn't send me flying”
Breaking the silence I spoke up, and in response, he chuckled- not so much because he found it funny, but rather, perhaps he was simply amused by my intrigue of his extensions. My hand was still on his tail, absentmindedly stroking the scales in an up-and-down motion.
“The last time I saw your tail, I didn't get to see it in such lights as the ones we currently have- Your scales are breathtaking”
“I'm glad you think so.” As he finished up his sentence, he lifted the end of his tail, until the tip was at perfect reach. Taking in the unspoken invitation, I make a final stroke from one of the points of the three-pointed tip, down before he retracts it, adjusting his position against the headboard.
He leans towards me, lifting his knee to support his elbow, so he can rest his cheek on the back of his hand. Meanwhile, his face is reflecting his highly aroused state of mind.
“Are you ready to move on to the next ones? To indulge your curiosities more; or do you wish to back out while you can?”
“You make it sound like I’m in some sort of imminent danger…”
He raised a brow and squinted his eyes, exaggeratedly scrutinizing me- for his standards- you, that is to say, most people as well, rarely ever see him so animated as he is now “Who says I'm not? I strike fear upon whoever may witness me.”
“Well, not me.”
“Perchance you're the peculiar one, then?”
I scoff and roll my eyes, not taking the jab to heart, before returning my gaze to his happy one. ”Well… you got wings right?”
“Indeed I do; you wish to indulge them next?”
“Sure, let's see them.”
Closing his eyes while nodding, he leaned back slightly, returning to a more neutral position, and relaxing his shoulders. “If I do, then it would make it a lot easier for me if I were to remove my shirt; are you comfortable with that, Child of Man?”
“Yeah, sure, I don't mind.”
“... And you can promise to not tell of this to anyone? If my grandmother were to catch wind of me undressing before a human, I would not hear the end of it.”
I chuckle at the thought.
“I promise- It won't end well for me either!”
He goes ahead without further conversation, beginning to undress. As the layers of fabric lifted off his body, it revealed more scales splayed across his features- even on the features visible earlier. The scales beautifully apply to, and exaggerate the contours and highlights of his body and face, making him look even more inhumanly beautiful.
He sits on his knees in front of me, threatening to make my neck ache if I had to look him in the eyes. Then, faster than I could compute, I’m surrounded by black. His large- large- wings encircle me. I whip my head from side to side, trying to look at them fully before my eyes lock with his. He wore the same stupid grin he did earlier, only bigger, I didn't even know he could be this expressive.
“So, child? Are you intimidated?”
“I-... well yes, kind of...”
His voice is roaring as he laughs at me, having his fun to the full before it softens into a more apologetic one.
“Sorry, the last thing I would want is for you to be scared of me.” He raised his hand and gently glided the back of his fingers against my cheek; he's been very bold recently.
He unflexed his wings, allowing the light to flow back to us. Between the very forward displays of affection, his high mood, and your eyes having to accommodate more light, you need a moment to adjust. And following you as you adjust, he does the same with his position, allowing you full access to his back. His wings go far lower than his back- the ends splay down far onto the bed.
You slowly reach out your hand, first coming into contact with the skin between the shoulder blades. His teal-tipped hair ends tickle your fingers before you finally come into contact with the wings. They spout out unusually from his back, with a joint prominent on the shoulder blade. As your hands glide upwards towards the tip of the top joint, you lightly graze over the talon placed on it, and moving your hand down further to the very end, you grasp the tip and watch it flex out and unfurl again, taking in and admiring the intricate ways it moves.
A few minutes go by of this- by curiously taking in his features, as he sits with his back turned to you in silence, to not interrupt your so focused observations; his wings being the biggest muse as it stands. Mesmerized by the way the thin tissue of his wings unfold when they open up, or the way that they can shield you away from almost any danger out there, within but a second.
The hair running down his back shifts, as he turns his head back to look at you, gazing at you with what could almost be described as sultry eyes.
“Did you have your fun?”
“Oh, if I did- your wings are enchanting, Malleus.”
He's turned over so he's facing you again, now getting yet another good look at the scales adorning his upper body. He smiles in contentment, the worn-out traces of his lipstick emphasising his lips as they curl upwards.
“So, Mal… is the next step full dragon form?”
“Oh no, my Child of Man, I think that will have to wait for another time; royal secrecy and indecency rules and whatnot.”
“Aw… Though when that does happen - which it will- can I ride you?”
“I can't promise anything, but it certainly wouldn't go against my reservations.”
Before you could answer, a notification rang through your phone, that Crowley gave you back at the Scarabia incident. As it turned out it was a text from Epel, in a group chat you’re in with your first-year friends. But as the screen lit up, the time caught your eye.
“There's only about an hour left, until I have to meet up with Grim again for dinner… how about we savour these last few moments?”
“Do you have anything particular in mind, prefect?”
He raised an eyebrow before answering, and when he was done speaking you took a bold move to lean forward, wrapping your arms around his neck and pulling him down to lay on the mattress along with you.
“Could we spend the time cuddling until I have to go again?”
His usual warm smile returns to his face, though differently this time, accompanied by the slightest redness dusting his cheeks.
“I would be delighted to.”
He gently grabs onto your waist, pulling you closer to his body. The scales on his neck feel cold to the touch, as you make yourself comfortable laying your head against his chest; letting the soft rhythmic thump of his heartbeat lull you to sleep before his tail wraps around one of your legs. Lastly, he opens his wings and wraps them around the two of you.
Staying like that, the two of you lay comfortably in each other's presence, before you had to return to whatever duties and responsibilities await you outside his room.
A/N (Chrille): from what I've heard, in Briar Valley, there's a rumour/belief that dragons are extinct? I’m not too sure though. Also please exuse if my grammar or mommas are weird English isn’t my first language😭

Malleus: How dare you suggest that I give up my spouse? *frowning*
Azul: Malleus-senpai, unless you are legally married and possess documentation to prove it, MC is not your spouse.
Malleus: ...
Lilia: It's time to let them go, don't you think?
Malleus: ...
Lilia: ...
Lilia: Malleus.
Malleus: ...
Malleus: *smiles* I have already introduced them to my grandmother—the Queen of Briar Valley. If you can explain the situation to her, then I will readily agree to release the child of man.
Lilia: Malleus... Why would you do that?!
Malleus: It was your fault, Lilia.
Lilia: ...
Azul: Very well. I will explain the situation to Her Majesty.
Malleus: Hmph.
*Unfortunately, Maleficia agreed that Malleus and MC are not considered married, though she requested that they be allowed to remain friends.*
Malleus: I will miss you, my beloved.
MC: *confused* Why? Are we divorcing?
Floyd: *cringes* Azul, do we have to watch this?
Jade: *chuckles*
Azul: Patience, Floyd.
*The next day*
Floyd: Good morning, Shrimpy~! *hugs them*
MC: ...
MC: Who—
Floyd: It's me~ Floyd~.
MC: Oh. Good morning, Floyd.
Azul: *walks into the room* Oh, you're awake.
Floyd: Azul~ Shrimpy's back~.
Azul: Yes, yes. I can see that. Here. *hands MC a new pocket notebook*
Azul: Your schedule for today.
MC: *opens it*
Floyd: ...
Floyd: Oi, Azul. Why is Sea Slug written here?
Azul: *sigh* After MC has become his companion, he demanded that he sees them every day.
Floyd: Huh...
Azul: MC, you understand. Right?
MC: I guess.
Floyd: No kissy-kissy with him. Okay?
MC: ?????

Hello! I was wondering if it's possible to request Lilia reacting to GN! Reader, despite being magicless, managed to uses magic using the language of the fae?
Hope this makes sense!
Thank you!
❥· This Is My Family, Lilia Vanrouge × S/O
Character(s): Lilia Vanrouge (🦇) A/N: This reminded me of Luz Noceda from The Owl House so strongly, so I used her for a backdrop of the Reader. Hope that's alright, and I hope you enjoy this, @beawesome04! Thank you for the amazing request! ✎ Summary: When someone tries to attack you and your husband, Lilia Vanrouge, a shock emerges when you use the hardly-known language of the fae to defend Lilia, Silver, and yourself.
┍━━━━━━━━━━━━━☽【❖】☾━━━━━━━━━━━━━┑
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🦇 Being born a human in Briar Valley wasn't very fun, since the fae there and the humans never had a very good bond. Because of this, when the relationship between you and Lilia emerged, many were outraged.
🦇 Lilia didn't care, you were his love. You were his other half, your species didn't matter. As he said at your wedding, "It doesn't matter if you were a beastman, a mer-person, a fae, or even a magicless human, I still love you. You are you no matter what, and that is what's important."
🦇 Hugging your husband, he felt the best he ever did. Even when he defeated humans in battle and secured the safety of his family and the people he swore to love until death, he never felt the amount of love that he did then and now.
🦇 As the years passed, and you were blessed by the previous Queen of Briar Valley, Queen Maleficia, with the same life as a fae. Unknowingly blessing you with an extremely old magical ability as well.
🦇 It was years since then, and now you finally got to walk around your hometown with your adopted son, whom you both named Silver, after his shining hair. The young boy smiled and sun cheerfully as he skipped around with you two beside him, just in case he randomly fell asleep again.
🦇 "Excuse me." A voice said from behind, which you turned around to put a face to voice. There, standing behind your family, was a fae man, his small fangs and pointy ears being the parts that showed that off.
🦇 "I couldn't help but wonder, are you Y/N and Lilia Vanrouge?" He asked. You cocked an eyebrow and looked at Lilia, who was picking up Silver to hold -- since he had fallen asleep.
🦇 "...Yes? Why?"
🦇 "Good."
🦇 Raising his hand, you noticed a blade. Lilia looked up and saw the unknown man try attacking you. But, before he could defend you, he heard a yell, one filled with the words of the ancient fae, emerge from your mouth.
🦇 "Silentium!" You screamed.
🦇 The fae slammed into the nearby wall, alerting all in the area. Lilia yelled for them all to evacuate, to which everyone did as he said. Silver was still in Lilia's arms when he pinned the man down with his foot, digging it into his back.
🦇 "Y/N, take Silver. I'll handle him." Lilia said. You blinked out of the stupor and nodded, taking your son in your arms as Lilia grabbed the fae and began to demand to know who he was and what he thought he was doing.
🦇 But, the sight of you using such an expired way of magic never left his mind. He knew he needed to ask Queen Maleficia what the side affects could be of your blessing.

Resume HCs [7]
Tumblr media
Upon assuming the throne as king of Briar Valley, many things were expected of Malleus.
His marriage to a human was definitely NOT one of those things.
Well, it's not like any of those opinions matter.
Fortunately Queen Maleficia on the other hand doesn't seem bothered about it or about Malleus imminent marriage with MC, Lilia and Silver are happy, also as Sebek.
The royal wedding was an event. For a variety of reasons, you can imagine.
MC and Malleus have a daughter together named Aurora. A few years later they had twin sons: Magnus and Kyrval.
Tumblr media
He planned to go far away even before graduation, but something made him rethink it... this "something" is Malleus, Silver and MC.
Of course, he didn't want all the work of Briar Valley to fall on him like it had been all these years. Fortunately, with Malleus taking the throne, changes would come. Good changes, he hoped.
After marriage, he was booking a house in a more remote location, but close to the essential points.
He is a stay-at-home husband, and he is happy that way.
Silver was happy for his father. He believes that Lilia deserves to be happy, and if MC makes him happy, it's everything fine.
MC and Lilia have triplets, all girls: Arista, Aisha and Adela. Lilia said he wanted they all to have an "A". The reason? He said he would say it on their 16th birthday.
Tumblr media
He officially became a royal guard after graduation and years of training.
He was fine and happy with it. Following the calling he had been trained to be his whole life. And with that, so was his girlfriend, MC.
He wanted to have a house first and foremost, one he bought with his own money.
When he succeeded, the marriage proposal was the next step.
Lilia was supporting him in every way, and that was enough for him. The same for Malleus.
He and MC have a daughter: Hanna.
Tumblr media
Like Silver, Sebek took his post as royal guard proudly.
He introduced his girlfriend to his family. His parents and older siblings were happier than ever, the same could not be said for Baul... but Sebek was already prepared for this. He didn't care. He would marry MC, and that would be that.
After the proposal, he went looking for a house.
He was happy and cheerful to give you the news. He had to get a house closer to the castle to carry out his duties, but valuing MC's safety, he decided to get a little more hidden one.
MC and Sebek have two children: a boy named Ivan and a girl named Amelie.

Lilia: "Wahaha!! Long time no see, all of you. Are you doing well?"

"When a king loses his way, those who do not fear him and seek to tell him right from wrong are those who are truly loyal... is what Her Majesty the Queen said."
Tumblr media
"For your loyalty and for everything you've done, I shall bestow upon you a gift."
Tumblr media
Ohhh! He formally gave them their knight's armor!! Apparently they were supposedly destroyed in battle, but Malleus had them specially repaired for them. He wasn't able to retain the high-tech stuff inlaid by the STYX people though LMAOOO.
So then Lilia makes a joke about how Mystium is so precious in this day and age that if Sebek and Silver melted their armors, they'd sell it for enough to build a mansion or two. They have emergency savings now!
Sebek and Silver screamed that they will never do that LMAOOOO.
Malleus: "And one more thing."
"On behalf of Her Majesty the Queen Maleficia, I formally bestow upon you the title of Knights of Briar Valley."

tag by @hanafubukki
since we never heard the term child of man used by anyone in Briar Valley (like the last tag implied even present day Baul still uses "humans" to refer to humans and in consequence thats what Sebek often uses as well, what if that term "child of man" is only used/made up by Lilia himself then that term just passed through Malleus?
We know that Lilia has some positive metaporical view of humans (I dont remember if it came from Levan, but its the parts where Lilia refers to humans as "neighbours of faes") he has many phrases like that in the present day, and he rarely use "human" now unlike his General Lilia-self, and we know that Lilia also generally views everyone around him as "children", so maybe its possible that "child of man" term is made by Lilia himself? (like the term just came from his softer view on humanity and his general view that everyone is just too young for him) and Malleus just learned from him that thats how you address a human (that you dont know)?
and thats why Sebek still uses "humans" because Baul didnt change how he referred to "humans", while Malleus used "Child of Man" bcs he learned it from Lilia (who might be the fae where that term originated(?))🤔
some little realization i had, but since when did briar faes referred to humans as "children of man?"
(im not talking about faes irl generally calling humans as children in myths btw) I'm realizing this bcs in present day TWST we can see that Lilia and Malleus often refers to any human as "child/children of man", but all the briarland characters like Meleanor, Baul, and General Lilia didnt call us like that, they referred to us as humans ("ningen") not child of man ("hito no ko")
even Meleanor's line when she recognized Silver and co as humans, only said "who are those children?" not children of man like how Malleus usually does address a group of humans
and even the day fairies (of knight of dawn) didnt call humans as children of man either, cant remember if anyone on fairy gala used this term either though-- 💀
so for faes, humans was historically called as only "humans" but now theres a more softer term for them like "child of man"?
i feel like it can be connected to the fact that humans used to call mages as witches in TWST. So maybe for fae society, humans were just called humans (often associated with unpleasantness bcs faes dont like their behaviour), but now faes are referring to them as "child of man" maybe to erase that practice of being derogatory now to humans?? Like same thing that happened between humans and mages(witches)

Tumblr media Tumblr media

Sneaking off with the General of Faes, the right-hand man of the princess of Fae kind was something that shouldn't be done by a queen of the opposing team.
And yet you had no reason to care anymore.
You met Lilia while he was injured in the human territory while you were out for a stroll. Due to the absolute kindness of your heart, you decided to help the poor man not yet knowing he was a general—not just a General, THE General of Briar Valley. You removed him of his strange armor and started to clean his wounds, some of which looked like the man was burned in some spots. You currently had him in your personal room. Your arranged Fiancé, Hendrick, and you both slept in different rooms, it was mainly due to the fact that you couldn't love such a horrible monster like him and due to the fact it was against your will to combine Kingdoms since his sister was already wed off to the stunning Dawn Knight, whom the Queen adored with all her heart. It's not like you could leave the marriage, you really wanted to, but Hendrick threated you with initiating war with your Kingdom and his, killing you first.
You sat on a bay window and read while the unconscious man rested in your bed. Of course, you knew he happened to be fae, those pointy ears weren't very common in humans other than a half fae and half human, but those individuals were very hard to come across from. You remember that your mother, a fae slayer, had always put it into your mind that all fae were out to kill and harm any humans they could find no matter if they committed sin or stayed as pure as a white rose. Even still, you found this fae's presence to be soothing, much more soothing than that big tub of lard you were forced to be wed to. You sigh and keep your umbrella wand, a magical item belonging to your family for generations at this point, just in case if the man were to wake up and attack.
For hours, you sat back in your window and finally managed to finish the book that Queen Leah lent to you about a few weeks ago. As the sun set, the man from the bed began to rise from the warmth of your sheets. You looked over as he groaned and rubbed his aching head, slowly making your way over as to not scare him too much.
"Ugh… Where…?" He began to question until his eyes finally landed on you, "Who… Who are you?! How dare you bring me here?!" He shouted and snarled at you, to which you only smiled. He tried to reach around him for something, only for him to look over and see the green-axe-looking thing on a wall on the other side of your room.
"Oh? That? Is that what you're looking for?" You asked and smiled at him, the pretty little spades on your cheek rising as your smile did. The man looked so tense that it was funny to you, "Yes… That was very hard to carry along with yourself. I wonder how often you carry that around."
"Where am I?" He asked once more.
"You're in my personal chambers." You hummed and sat near him, your umbrella ready for anything to happen, "I am Queen (Yuu/MC) Butterfly… Well, I'm married to Hendrick, so I suppose that should change…" You sighed while the man with very long hair shot a glare at you.
"You're that big barrel's wife?!" He shouted, "Are you going to take me to your beloved as an act of kindness in return for a nice night in bed?!" His voice was stern and accusatory. You gasped and gave an offended look.
"Is that how you speak to a lady?" You huffed and chuckled, "And to a Queen, no less…" You hummed and finally looked into his eyes. Something felt off when you both finally looked at each other, and it was obvious that you both felt it. Everything suddenly felt lighter and more safe with just the two of you, but overall, the most noticeable thing was the fact that it looked like everything was being viewed through rose colored glasses. When you both finally snapped out of it, you coughed.
     "Are you hungry…?"
"…You're going to poison me, aren't you, disgusting human." He spat back.
"I'll just give you one of my favorite candy bars then…" You sighed and handed him a chocolate bar. The man hesitantly took the bar and started to eat it, satisfied with the taste and satisfying crunch of the bar. Although, he didn't wish to show a lowly human that he was being weak at this moment, but it seemed too late already due to the fact that she was smiling at him.
The first time you met Lilia Vanrouge, you knew it would cost you your downfall,
     Though, you still didn't care.
After that first meeting, neither of you could stop seeing each other. Something kept you both from finally parting paths, like a tight rope was keeping you bound to each other. Lilia often said it was because your spells were useful, your 'All-Seeing Eye' spell is one he loved you to use to figure out the Silver Owls next moves so he could plan appropriately. You could see right through him, even with his stupid smirks and sung grins, you knew he came to see you, which seemed very out of his character, he blamed your closeness on the fact that you both have a shared hatred with your arranged husband. You would always smile at him with a small laugh in your voice, always saying you enjoyed his company. He hated it. He hated how you made his heart flutter.
As of now, you both are in your exclusive garden and you're trying to perform the 'All-Seeing Eye' spell that Lilia has deemed as the most useful one you have.
"I summon the All-Seeing Eye to tear a hole into the sky reveal to me that which is hidden, unveil to me what is forbidden." You whispered and pointed your now open umbrella about 90 degrees above your shoulder, and the eye finally appeared. Lilia sat and watched what the eye was showing, staying quiet since he knew you had to focus to be able to cast this spell perfectly since it was one of the newer ones you made. Once Lilia had his fill on information on the Silver Owls, he tapped your shoulder to let you know he was finished.
"Oh dear…" You sighed and put your wand down, sitting on the perfectly green grass with a small grunt of exhausting. Lilia sunk down next to you and rubbed your back, but at a distance.
"Are you alright? Do you need medical assistance? Are you tired? What troubles you human?" He started asking so many questions, almost sounding worried.
"Awe, are you worried about me, sweetie?" You asked before scooting closer and leaning on him with your eyes closed. You were a bold human, and yet he didn't seem to mind it. He… Adored your bold personality. "I'm okay." You responded after a few minutes of quiet, "A lot of newer spell takes a lot of energy out of me. And it only makes my fatigue worse doing it over and over again back-to-back." You half tease the fae who is tense as you lay on his shoulder. He sighed at you and pulled you closer, which you didn't expect. You blinked at him for a moment before smiling and leaning your head against his shoulder and closing your eyes, letting the smell of your garden relax your mind and body. The sun on your skin felt amazing while your umbrella-like wand kept Lilia shaded since you knew that he got very lightheaded during the day, the sun only made it so much worse.
"I have to go soon," He hummed and shrugged the shoulder you were laying on, "Won't someone come check on you here?" He asked as he tried to get you off of his shoulder. You whine and fall onto his lap and looked up at him.
"The guards or Hendrick won't come looking for me. They call me 'evil' for all the spells that I've put into my book!" You huffed and looked up at him.
"Evil?" He laughed; how could someone find you evil? Sure, you're very powerful with your magic and are the only one on this human land that still practices it, but you haven't harmed anyone at all. Lilia looked down with a small, playful smirk, "That's silly, you're more… Soft than anything." He hummed and kept you close, enjoying the feeling of you laying on his lap for some reason. It was only because of the breeze, nothing else he could reason with besides that.
"Well, my spells seem evil to other people, so I guess they're frightened with me. It works out though, I enjoy being by myself a lot." You smiled and looked at him, tugging the red color on his bangs. He rolled his eyes and snarled a bit, swatting you hand away and forced you to sit up off of him. He stood up and stood you up too, making sure you looked at him.
"Seriously, I have to go now." He spoke firmly, holding your elbows.
"I suppose it's time for me to head in before someone spreads a rumor saying I'm raising the dead next." You chuckled while he rolled his eyes a bit with a smile. You both stood there for a moment, just staring and smiling. Lilia sighed after a few minutes and held a gloved hand to your pretty spaded cheek, rubbing the dark maroon colored cheek mark as you leaned into it with a small smile, it was slightly smug, but it still held affection.
"Must you be so… Irritating…?" Lilia sighed as he pinched your cheek with a huff. You swat his hand with a laugh, to which he responded with another huff and sigh. The feeling he felt in his chest was weird to him, no way he could be falling for someone on the opposing team, someone who he had met only a few weeks ago. Though, something kept him tied to you, like he couldn't get enough of simply being near you. he had to admit, asking you for intel on your betrothed and his troops was simply and excuse to be near you.
"You seem to be lost in thought, mind letting me into that brain of yours?" You asked with a smile. Lilia shivered knowing you could be in his mind at any time without him even thinking about it. He found it creepy, but exciting at the same exact time. He sighed and figured that he should just explain what he was thinking.
"You… I hate how you, a simple, human, make me feel weak." He huffed at you, pinching your cheek once more. You laughed and wrapped your arms around his neck to pull him closer. Lilia lightly held onto your sides and sighed. You both looked at each other for a little bit, it felt like forever before you both leaned closer and sealed the deal to both of your greatest sins.
That's when all the sneaking started
Lilia was off duty for a day, he briefly explained that he was harmed by an iron trap set by one of Hendrick's troops, the princess gave him enough pity to let him heal for the day. Though, instead of healing, he decided to spend the day with you, his own form of healing. Lilia waited for you in your garden, looking at the exhausting sun finally bidding good night.
"Boo!" You held onto his shoulders as you hopped onto his back while you laughed. He sighed and rolled his eyes, he wasn't really surprised at all, nor was he frightened. He held onto the back of your legs and made sure you stayed on his back. He looked over to his right as you placed your head on his shoulder with a pout, "Nothing? Really? I was sure I got you this time…" You sighed and dug your face into his neck before biting it. Lilia sighed and rolled his eyes once more.
"You really think that would get me? A war general? Come on now, dearest." He chuckled, turning his head a bit more to place a gentle kiss on your cheek, enjoying the way your adorable spades light up a light pink while you smiled. Lilia had a date planned for you, but wouldn't explain where it was, or what he had planned for when you both got there.
He carried you there, not minding the fact that he was still a bit hurt at all (much to your protest). You sighed at the fact that he wouldn't let you down, but didn't protest in fear he'd drop you right onto the floor just to teach you a lesson. After a while, Lilia comes to a stop and sets you down gently on your feet. It was a clearing in the woods, away from any Silver Owls, or any Fae watch groups. Lilia had set up a little picnic for the both of you, and gosh it was beautiful. You stood with your umbrella wand almost falling out of your hand, it was beautiful compared to the war going on at the very moment.
"Oh, Darling…" You looked at the river streaming by as it reflected the light that was being casted down by the moon, though, the moon tonight seemed to be a crescent and much more of a blood red color, but it was much more lovely than normal to you.
"It isn't much, I know… But I figured you could use a break, as do I." He mumbled and cupped your face, his other hand moving to your waist as he started to gently sway with you. The swaying gently began to turn into a lovely waltz under the crimson moon. You smiled and moved his hand off your face so you could hold his gloved hand with your glove covered one.
"Your earrings match the moon tonight, dearest." He commented and continued the dance until it seemed like the crimson color disappeared.
"Thank you!" You smiled a bit more and leaned into him, happy he noticed, "They're new!" He hummed and nodded with a slight smile tugging his lips as he led you down to sit on the blanketed floor, there was a little basket with some… Questionable items that he brought inside of it.
"Um… Lilia, what is this…?" You asked, holding up something that looked to be burnt to a crisp.
"A frog. You have to cook it very well to a crisp since it's a poisonous one, but it's still edible." He hummed. You huffed and sighed, you stood up and opened your wand and pointed it at the sky, casting your 'All-Seeing Eye' spell. Lilia looked very confused at the fact you were casting the spell at this time.
     "Dear-"
"Shh." You instantly quieted him down so you could focus. Soon, the image of your arranged husband came up, and he was gorging himself with food. Lilia cringed with pure disgust at the sickening sight, he was confused on why you would be trying to spy on your husband eating like the disgusting pig he is. That was until you took a deep breath and reached out a hand to the portal with the eye. He stayed still and stayed quiet as you touched the portal, your cheeks glowing along with your eyes as your hand stretched the portal. While the man was closing eyes in gluttonous bliss, you managed to grab some of his food from the table it was resting on and take it out from the portal without even being noticed. Lilia huffed at you.
"Was my cooking not good for you?"
"Sweetie, I would have chipped a tooth eating what you made. I love you, but not your cooking." You laughed and placed some of the delicious smelling food onto the blanket as you both decided to watch the disgusting man in the Seeing Eye eat himself into a food coma, laughing as you both watched servants come up quick to check if he was still alive and hadn't suffered a heart attack.
Hours pass and it's about time that you both need to leave before people start to get suspicious, especially those stupid humans that thought you were going off to cast spells to harm Hendrick. Lilia dug his face into your neck and took in the smell of you, like it was the last thing he would ever get from you. He relaxed when you held him tight, running your gloved fingers through his ponytail, caressing the red in his hair.
"Oh! I forgot, I have something for you!" You pulled back with a smile, you reached into the pocket of your dress and pulled out a little gift box, "Open it!" You encouraged as he hesitantly untied the red ribbon. Inside, was a lovely ring, it had bats and spades engraved in it. It was truly beautiful.
"My dear…" Lilia mumbled and looked at the ring as you started to speak again.
"I have one too," You pulled it out from the front of your dress, you were wearing it as a necklace instead of on your finger. You moved it closer to the one Lilia had, and they both began to glow a soft purple shade, "I made them, so we'll know when we're close to each other, so we will always fine one another." You softly spoke, "Just in case anything happened." You mumbled and put it back into its hiding spot.
Lilia smiled, "I love it." He mumbled and pulled you closer so he could kiss you. This kiss was full of longing and love, you both stayed like that for a while before pulling back and parting ways, the rings slowly dimming the further you got. All Lilia could think was what you said, even after you both had parted ways.
You had made those rings incase anything were to happen to either of you.
He didn't like the feeling he got from thinking about your words, not at all.
Weeks pass by and he tried to find you, but he couldn't. Any sign, the slightest smell of you, it was all gone. Lilia was panicking, but he also had a job to do that he took seriously. You never showed back up in your garden, the place you cherished the most, the place you both loved and held so close to your hearts, you weren't there. Lilia longed for your presence, but he didn't let that falter his performance. Not one bit. No matter how much it hurt when he figured out what happened to you.
"KING HENDRICK'S WIFE CHARGED WITH TREASON,
QUEEN BANISHED INTO A CRYSTAL."
He found a flying poster he thought was human litter, but the picture drawn of his beloved in a crystal made his heart sink. Did you know that this would happen? Why didn't you tell him? His questions would have been unanswered for over 300 years.
In that time, he's watched his life crumble and then rebuild. He hatched the heir to the Draconia throne, adopted a human boy, trained his old friends' grandson, went to Night Raven College… All the while, he was still thinking about you. You've never left his mind no matter how hard he tried, you always made your way into his dreams, and they felt real. Your lips on his, your hands caressing his face and running through his hair while he laid his head on your lap all felt like reality to him, only to wake up empty in his bed after a night of hardcore gaming, cold and alone.
The magicless Perfect that came to the NRC was a shocker to him, after all these years something managed to fill him with wonder. But what really filled him with wonder, was the fact that when the Headmage sent you, a small little Direbeast, and two first years into the mine for whatever reason, but they swore up and down that they managed to get a look at a large crystal with a woman inside. Lilia wouldn't have let his curiosity get to him if they hadn't mentioned the fact that the woman had little spades on her cheeks.
Here he was now, in the mines, looking for what could possibly be the best thing to have ever happened to him. He would gain back something he lost years ago. The more he moved into the dark mine, the more that he seemed to spot a familiar purple glow in the distance. The ring he's worn for years now finally glowing the same purple light. His breath hitched as a large grin came to his face, he started to dart to where the light was coming from. He went deeper and deeper into the mine, the thoughts of his love consumed his aching mind and seemed like a balm that relaxed it. The glow got brighter and brighter until he was met with your beautiful unblinking eyes.
The purple was bright coming from your chest, your umbrella in your right hand as you stared forward with the slight smile you always had, your hat created a bit of a shadow that framed your face so perfectly to him. Lilia got closer and the purple glow of the rings began to fade. He placed his hand on the glass with a smile as tears formed in his eyes.
     "Hello, my love, welcome home…"
And just like that, the crystal began to crack.
