Dé sorud! It's been a while since I've been about the star wars fandom, but coming back, I had to return to you conlang while writing for Padmé's nâdune! I had a question (and I might very well have some more as I go but I'll send those as separate asks haha) but did you have any headcanons/ideas about the monarch's name?
By which I mean, it appears to me as if Padmé chose the name Amidala under which to run - are the names chosen based on historical figures/myths (like Veruna)? Or are they created before someone starts running for the throne? Or is it more common for someone to run with their actual surname attached?
(And if they do have translations, have you created any for some of the canon kings/queens that we know of?)
Thank you!
Dé sorud! Thank you for your questions, delighted that you're enjoying my little conlang!
Regarding the monarch's title - it depends entirely on the monarch, on the emphasis they want to place on themselves as a monarch, what it is that they represent as a ruler. They can be based on historical figures, though no one would take the name of one of the Six directly, more like, 'Shiraya's Chosen' or something on those lines. People also repeat monarch names - taking on the same one as a past monarch to indicate their similarity or honour them.
The exception is any of the Verunas, an ancient noble family that claim descent from Dod Veruna and are distantly related to the ancient hereditary monarchs of Naboo. They can keep their name. Because they're the Verunas.
It wouldn't be common practice to run with a monarch name - that implies a sense of victory, and if you lose, that monarch name is now associated with loss - so more likely people run with their original surname, or maybe are just referred to as [Candidate] Padmé and so on.
I have not actually created any for the canon kings and queens that we know, mostly because we don't really know a lot about them, and it's not been my focus... except that I HC that Sanandrassa is a monarch name, not her actual name, meaning 'a prayer' (note it is not the actual word for 'prayer', more a figurative way to say it).

So that you get to play, too! Share 10 facts about Cori'iana (or an oc of your choice lol)
Cori'iana has a grey cat named Meellen - his inspiration is my kitty Merlin!
Cori'iana's parents were assassinated in the first month of her reign.
Sanandrassa women have a tradition of having i'i in their name. (Definitely not saying you should go look at my cast list because of this lol)
She is force sensitive.
She does not trust Palpatine - not because she suspects he's Sith, but because her grandmother trusts him.
During the first year of her reign, Cori'iana was on the run with Obi-Wan & Qui-Gon because an assassin was after her.
Cori'iana does not trust her grandmother, but because they're family she puts up with her.
It was her grandmother's idea that Cori'iana run for queen in the first place - and it was after she lost her parents she realized how manipulative her grandmother was.
Cori'iana didn't have much of a relationship with her grandmother until she paid for Cori'iana to go to school.
Once Cori'iana trusts someone, her mischievous side comes out.

I know you made a post with face claims for Ahsoka and Queen's Shadow, and I was wondering if you had any for Queen's Peril or Queen's Hope? I'd love to know who you pictured for characters like Sanandrassa, Harli, and Tepoh!
Hi!
Sanandrassa is definitely Sophie Turner, but, like, Queen of the North version (without the trauma).
I didn't have a specific person in mind for Harli or Tepoh, except that they both have long hair that they usually wear up. Harli's style is much more practical. Tepoh leans towards fancy. Grown Up Harli in Queen's Hope has probably put on more muscle. Tepoh will look different depending on the gender zher presenting at any given time, but during the book zher is aiming to look unobtrusive, so zhe dresses in handmaiden-ish layers, without the hood.

Don’t Talk to Me About Naboo’s Moons
Last month, I had a little too much time on my hands when I ran out of things to do at work, so I made a Powerpoint. I did not expect to have 20 slides worth of yelling about Naboo’s moons, but here we are.
Tumblr media
[ID: PowerPoint slide. The title, in big letters, reads “Don’t Talk to Me About Naboo’s Moons.” In smaller letters, the subtitle: “(Star Wars Writers Sure Didn’t Talk to Each Other About Them, Either)”. /end ID]
And now I’m adapting it to a Tumblr post, because why not.
How many moons does Naboo have?
I'm glad you asked
Three
Inside the Worlds of STAR WARS Episode I (2000) stated that they had one moon, and from TPM footage it’s hard to claim for certain there’s any more than that. Apparently taking their cue from Secrets of Naboo, a supplement to the WOTC Star Wars RPG, later sources have run with three moons
Source: https://www.theforce.net/swtc/orbs.html#naboo
Thrawn: Alliances (2018) compares another system’s moons with Naboo’s: “They were small moons, smaller than any of Naboo’s three…” (Ch. 15)
Nexus of Power (supplement to the Star Wars Force and Destiny Roleplaying Game) says Naboo has “three small moons”
Tumblr media
[ID: Moonlight over Theed, The Phantom Menace. One obvious moon shines in the sky over Theed palace. Another bright object in the sky may also be a moon. /end ID]
Tumblr media
[ID: Amidala’s starship passes a moon of Naboo, The Phantom Menace. The moon in question is tan and barren-looking. /end ID]
So, we have designations for three or fewer moons, right?
Wrong
There's five candidates: Ohma-D'un, Onoam, Rori, Veruna, and a “nameless mass”
Sources and Canon in Star Wars
Before we go on, let’s look at how we get information about the Star Wars universe, and how I select from contradictory information. If you’re familiar, obviously, feel free to skip ahead to the next section. The imaginary audience for the PowerPoint might not have been.
The old EU passes into Legends
On April 25, 2014, in the leadup to The Force Awakens, Lucasfilm announced that all previous Expanded Universe material would now be published under the Legends banner. All six previous movies plus The Clone Wars series “are the immovable objects of Star Wars history, the characters and events to which all other tales must align.” Novels, comics, and other expanded universe material published after the changeover to Legends is now known as New Canon (or Disney Canon).
Every fan ultimately comes to their own arrangement with what they consider canon — which pieces of New Canon and Legends they stitch together to come to a satisfying understanding of the Star Wars universe.
Canon status of roleplaying game materials
The canon policy of Wookieepedia is fascinating and I have not even scratched the surface, but the section on roleplaying games makes for especially convoluted reading. Both the West End Games and Wizards of the Coast licenses for RPGs ended before the Legends changeover; these are firmly Legends.
Fantasy Flight Games, however, gained the license to card, board, and roleplaying games in 2011, just three years before the switch to New Canon. Lucasfilm Story Group has made no public stance on whether their material is canon.
For this reason and because their publishing time for the RPG sourcebooks stretches before and after the changeover, Wookieepedia has gone case-by-case and selected which books apply to Legends, Canon, or both for article-writing purposes.
Mainstream solutions to the three-moon problem
Tumblr media
[ID: A quote from Nexus of Power: “Three small moons - Ohma-D’un, Rori, and a nameless mass that is little more than an overgrown asteroid - house small colonies as well as a handful of offworld and orbital shipyard and factories.” /end iD]
Nexus of Power is an FFG sourcebook that was determined by Wookieepedia’s standards to apply to Canon as well as Legends articles. Its entry on Naboo, however, differs from the later sourcebook Rise of the Separatists, which Wookieepedia deems canon and cites in its selection of moons.
The Rise of the Separatists entry reads:
Three moons—Ohma-D’un, Rori, and Veruna—orbit Naboo. They host small colonies with shipyards, orbital dockyards, and factories.
So even within one publishing license and one context, different moons have been attributed to Naboo.
Wookieepedia
Wookieepedia’s Canon page for Naboo lists Ohma-D’un, Onoam, and Veruna. Each of these comes from a different source:
Ohma-D’un cites Rise of the Separatists
Onoam cites Leia, Princess of Alderaan
Veruna cites Star Wars: The Visual Encyclopedia
They’ve made a choice—but it’s definitely not the only plausible choice. Each of the four names we’re given for Naboo’s moons has at least some backing in New Canon.
Onoam
Onoam is the only moon on this list that is fully and non-dubiously canonical, as Leia spent some time there in the 2017 novel Leia, Princess of Alderaan. It is, however, the funniest name choice: someone recently pointed out to me that it’s just an anagram of “a moon”
I love this, but Claudia Gray sure muddied the Naboo Moon Name Waters by making this the only choice it is impossible to reject. No shade, though. I loved the LPOA Naboo crumbs.
Onoam has both mines (plagued in the Imperial era by corrupt leadership and miner safety issues) and luxury housing. Before his assassination, Moff Quarsh Panaka resided in a chalet on Onoam, and Queen Dalné had a home there.
Sidebar: The Mining Moons
When discussing the assassination attempt on Padmé in Attack of the Clones, Mace Windu says, “Our intelligence points to disgruntled spice miners on the moons of Naboo.”
Leia, Princess of Alderaan establishes that Onoam was one of these moons; it mentions strikes and minor political violence a generation before Leia’s. It also establishes that Onoam is mined for medicinal spice, which by law can only be mined by humans, not droids
In Queen’s Shadow, which takes place in 28 BBY, the mining moons “struggle to maintain the balance between the rule of Naboo and their allegiance to filling their quotas”; the mining jobs are much less lucrative than farming on Karlinus
Veruna
Tumblr media
[ID: a rather barren, tan-colored moon /end ID]
Star Wars: The Visual Encyclopedia (2017) identifies the moon pictured above as Veruna. The same moon was identified as Ohma-D’un by The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia (2008), according to Wookieepedia. I have access to neither, but it looks like the moon the ship passed in TPM. For being one of Wookiee’s choices, the evidence for this name is astonishingly thin, but the same can be said of some of the others
Sidebar: King Veruna and his moon
The likelihood is that Veruna (the moon) was named for Ars Veruna, Padmé’s predecessor as Naboo’s monarch in Legends novels Darth Plagueis (2012) and Cloak of Deception (2001)
It is very probable that Veruna is no longer canon, and it is certainly impossible that he served a decade-plus term that ended shortly before Padmé’s reign:
Padmé’s immediate predecessor, according to Queen’s Peril (2020), was Queen Sanandrassa
Sometime during Eirtaé’s childhood, Réillata served a single two-year term, according to Queen’s Shadow (2019)
Even if he’s placed somewhere before Sanandrassa, there’s not really room for him to have reigned that long unless there are two monarchs between him and Padmé
Rori
Rori was named and fleshed out in the 2003 game Star Wars Galaxies, which is now Legends. While it is one of the names given in the Fantasy Flight Games sourcebooks, it doesn’t seem to have a source anywhere else in New Canon.
Ohma-D’un
Ohma-D’un has one New Canon source outside of RPG sourcebooks: the 2018 reference book Star Wars: Smuggler’s Guide. In Smuggler’s Guide, Tyro Viveca (one of the owners of the in-universe book) mentioned seeing bursa-baiting on Ohma-D’un. Bursas are bear-like creatures originally from Legends material, where they were known to attack and destroy Gungan settlements.
I had a picture of a captive bursa for illustrative purposes, but honestly it made me too sad so I deleted it. Nevertheless, that’s stronger detail and evidence than we have for either Rori or Veruna.
Bonus fact: Naboo officially has no such thing as prison. When Panaka mentions this to Rabé, she says, “Only because we send everyone to the moon” (Queen’s Peril). Enjoy those implications!
TL;DR
While Onoam is definitely one of the moons, what you call the other two is up to each person’s discretion until something else is stated. Personally, I prefer Ohma-D’un and Rori, rather than Veruna. This partly because I don’t like Veruna the Legends figure (petty) and partly because Rori has some interesting Legends lore that could be drawn on in a pinch, which as far as I can tell Veruna does not.

Sunset Queens - Chapter 3
For Naboo Review Day 3 - Diversity (sort of. The wrong parts of this fic got really long. I promise it comes into play at the end!)
Chapter 1 and Chapter 2
on Ao3
“We’ll figure something out,” Sabé says from where Padmé’s handmaiden stands beside her. Padmé wishes that she could share Sabé’s confidence. The weight of her position as Queen of Naboo has never felt heavier than it does right now, with the trade federation bearing down on all sides.
“Senator Palpatine will sort this out.” There’s Yané on her other side, and Padmé wishes she shared the other girl’s faith. Senator Palpatine has been trying to get the Senate to hear Naboo for weeks now to no avail. Padmé wishes she could bury her face in her hands, but since today she’s actually in the queen’s regalia, and more importantly, the queen’s makeup, that’s hardly an option. Rabé might actually snap and murder her if she ruined all of her hard work on making Padmé’s face appear perfect.
“We’re going to have to put our faith in negotiations with the Trade Federation,” Padmé responds. She doesn’t have to explain how her thought process reached that point. It’s just her and her handmaidens in the room, and they all know how her mind works.
“Will they even negotiate?” Rabé asks from her seat across the room. Padmé bites the inside of her cheek. They have to. She doesn’t know what she’ll do if the Trade Federation follows through on their threatened embargo and then refuses to negotiate.
“Your Highness.” The door swings open, and a member of Captain Panaka’s guard steps through and snaps to attention. It isn’t anyone Padmé recognizes; she’ll have to send one of her handmaidens to find out who is on guard duty right now.
“Carry on,” Sabé speaks for Padmé. The character of Amidala uses as few words as possible since she has so many different voices, so her handmaidens take turns speaking for her.
“A guest to see you, Queen Amidala. She says she comes to advise you.” Amidala keeps her confusion off of her face – she has not called for any of her advisors, and her handmaidens wouldn’t do it without telling her. (Barring one incident, but that was more of an intervention when Padmé hadn’t slept in seventy-two hours. Padmé slept last night, that isn’t the case here.) Only the former monarchs traditionally show up to offer advice without being summoned, but Reillata is off-planet right now, touring with the show she is in.
“Skip the commentary and just announce me!” A feminine voice calls from outside the door. It’s familiar in a way that Padmé can’t quite place or describe. A quick glance at her handmaidens shows that most of them are having a similar feeling.
And then the doors are opened, and she steps through, and Padmé instantly knows who she is. Queen Sanandrassa is dressed in a long, beautiful dress of golden lace which forms elaborate geometric designs as it falls around her form.
“Sanandrassa. Welcome.” Amidala herself speaks this time, trying to cover her surprise. It hadn’t even occurred to her that her guest could be Queen Sanandrassa because this is the former queen’s first visit to the palace during Amidala’s reign. She supposes it makes sense, though. Sanandrassa has more experience with the Trade Federation than anyone currently serving in the palace.
“Queen Amidala.” Sanandrassa curtsies before walking into the room to stand in the center of the circular space. She looks Amidala in the eyes, and says simply, “I understand you are having some trouble with the Trade Federation.”
If Padmé had been dressing as a handmaiden, she would have allowed her lips to twitch at that understatement. As it is, she simply inclines her head a little.
“They are threatening a full trade embargo on the whole planet unless Naboo pays all of the fees they have pulled from nowhere to add to the debt we have long paid off,” Sabé speaks from beside Padmé.
“The debt that they were owed for their financial aid following their role in providing financial aid to your programs to repair Naboo from the damages done by King Veruna’s reign was paid off by Reillata, as was agreed on in the contract. They are, predictably, attempting to scam and threaten their way to a cheap fortune.” Eirtaé adds from where she sits, next to Rabé and across the room from Padmé’s throne. Padmé suppresses a wince. Eirtaé is a vocal member of the portion of the population that believed that Sanandrassa’s decision to go to the Trade Federation was the cause of this mess. Padmé continues to reserve judgment.
“That is not why they’re doing this,” Sanandrassa says, and now she has everyone’s full attention, Padmé’s sure. She remembers suddenly that for all Padmé disagrees with some of her diplomatic decisions, the older woman is a gifted orator. “I reached out to one of my old contacts in the federation. The blockade exists to punish us because they disagree with Naboo’s recent legislative choices.”
Amidala is sure that she’s making a face right now, although she isn’t sure what it looks like. She hopes it doesn’t appear to undignified, as unlikely as that is.
“None of Naboo’s recent legislation should affect them at all,” Saché speaks this time. Sanandrassa snorts.
“If you truly believe that, you are far too naive.  Everything affects the federation because they have their hands in everything.”
“Which piece of legislation do you believe they are objecting to?” Sabé cuts in before Eirtaé can say what they all see is on the tip of her tongue. Padmé doesn’t know what it is, but she suspects it will not be particularly diplomatic in this situation.
“This is surely a result of Naboo’s new diplomatic, immigration, and refugee policies.”
“Explain.” Sabé says exactly what Padmé would have said at that moment.
“As a result of this new approach, new trading partners are being developed, and now we are trading less with the Trade Federation. They are punishing us for that.”
“They’re throwing a fit,” Yané murmurs so that only Padmé and Sabé can hear her. There are similar murmurs from the other handmaidens in the room.
“What then is your advice?” Padmé speaks aloud and notices that Sanandrassa straightens up.
“Pull away from those deals. They’re new, we can say they simply aren’t working out. Naboo is currently suffering for everyone else’s sakes.” Padmé knows that Sanandrassa is famously isolationist. She just hadn’t realized until now just how isolationist the former monarch really is.
“I suppose you also think we should close our borders.” Eirtaé bites back. Padmé remembers a skit that used to be done during Reillata’s reign where they would have the queen give a speech during the show and then have a handmaiden stand behind her to act as her ‘anger translator’ and say what the queen is really thinking. Padmé thinks Eirtaé would be her anger translator.
“In fact, I do believe so. The people of Naboo stand alone against the trade federation. We cannot keep taking on the burdens of those who will not come to our aid, it isn’t sustainable. Once we end those ties, the federation will leave.”
“Just bow down to the will of the Federation, while we’re at it.” Eirtaé fires back. Amidala raises her hand, and everything her handmaidens were about to say drops off. Sanandrassa stills.
“I will not abandon our trading partners, not when the deals are hard-won and fair. Nor will I close the borders. That is not who the Naboo are.”
“You will make a mistake.”
“Look around you. The people in this room come from all parts of Naboo and are descended from those who came to Naboo from worlds across the system and across the galaxy. We are all here because we are striving to preserve the Naboo we love. The vibrant art and music and culture, which is that way because of the vibrant peoples who create it. I will not compromise what I swore to defend in order to bow to an invading force. I will stand by the promises I made to Naboo.” Amidala spoke, and it’s the most Padmé has said as Amidala in a long time. Sanandrassa’s face falls.
“I refused to compromise on my ideals as well, Queen Amidala. I refused to give up on the promises I made to Naboo as well, and look where that got me.”
“You made different promises,” Saché speaks again.
“You will be like me, then, remembered for what your choices cost Naboo and the decisions your successors undid. That is all the legacy there is for queens who stand by their ideals through their predecessor’s messes.” Sanandrassa bites out, and Padmé does understand her anger. As news of the federation’s threats spread, much of the people’s anger has been directed, largely unfairly, towards the former queen who once dealt with them. Such anger led Naboo to forgot how much Sanandrassa had fixed and repaired after she had been handed the destruction of her corrupt predecessor. Still, Padmé does not find that she agrees.
“I do not care how Naboo remembers me, so long as they are still able to do so in the ways I have long loved about Naboo – in Naboo’s art, in Naboo’s architecture, in Naboo’s music.”
Notes:
I have not read any of the new Padmé novels so if the characters seem out of character that's why :/

Naboo Founder Queen Elsinoré den Tasia
Queen Elsinoré den Tasia ruled the planet Grizmallt beginning around 3950 BBY. She sponsored numerous colonization expeditions throughout her reign, including one that led to the Human occupation of the Renatasia system. Many of the expeditions failed, and around 3900 BBY, Tasia sponsored the last of those expeditions, which was carried out by three colony ships; the Beneficent Tasia, Constant, and Mother Vima (They are seen flying on the right. As images of three colony ships did not survived, they were presented as a look-alike of the J-type 327 Nubian royal starship. We can also see hologram of Naboo system and ships on the left.) Tasia died shortly afterward, wishing the ships would find a home in her final moments. The ships would later land on the planet Naboo, which the colonists inhabited, becoming known as the Naboo.
The current style of Naboo dresses and facial adornments pay homage to the regalia of Queen Tasia of Grizmallt, and to whom some Naboo claim to be able to trace an unbroken ancestry. As Naboo and Grizmallt fashion were similar, Tasia was presented in a costume wore by one of Naboo queens. They are black, as if saying that she didn't live long enough to see Naboo by herself.
Behind the Queen, we can also see a graphic of a solar system on the wall to additionally show that she promoted cosmic expansion.
One is known for sure - without her, the planet Naboo would have never been discovered and its rich culture would have never existed.

Unidentified Queen of Naboo from The High Republic with a yacht
The unnamed Queen ruled around 382 BBY. That queen owned a yacht, which the gambler Axel Greylark wanted to buy with his inheritance.
Unfortunately, that is all what is known about her. We do not know how she looked, what kind of dresses she wore or her age. On the painting she is presented in royal hangar with a probable visualisation of the yacht, which she owned, in the background. She has a costume, which belonged to other Naboo Queen, who ruled after her reign. As the Lady ruled in time of Great Peace - she was presented with traditional scars of remembrance on her face.
Naboo royal crest behind her also represents her high status.

Young Queen Ameé
Ameé was was born on the Mid Rim Territories planet Naboo around 54 BBY. At 40-36 BBY, she served as the Queen of Naboo, which meant that she was 14 years old, when she started her term.
Princess Fanry of the Inner Rim planet Pijal, who was in similar age as the Naboo Queen, considered inviting Ameé and other young galactic leaders to her world for a summit. However, her lord regent Rael Averross rejected the idea.
Unfortunately, that is all what is known about the Queen.
On the painting she was presented in a costume of one of past Queens and has scars of remembrance on her face. Naboo royal crest behind her and on her dress represents her high status.

The Gungan-Naboo War Unidentified Queen of Naboo (Legends)
An unidentified Queen of Naboo reigned sometime during the Gungan-Naboo War. Because the last heir of the then-current dynasty died in combat and had not decided who would succeed him, the Naboo elected a queen to lead them in the war. She died shortly after the end of the conflict in 121 BBY.
Unfortunately it is not know how her dresses looked alike and even none of her portraits survived to our times, her image and costume is purely imaginative. Presently she wears a remade royal clothes from one of future Queens. To underline her status, the lady has also the Jewel of Zenda. The red jewel is considered to be a royal jewel by the people of Naboo. She also has scars of remembrance on her face.
We can also see a Naboo royal crest on the red curtain, underlining the importance of the lady.
As the Queen ruled during the Gungan-Naboo war, she is surrounded by a Gungan energy shield, sword of Naboo Royal Security Forces and a blue boomer.
On the left, we can see a broken crest with symbol of a tree, it symbolises not only a difficult war time, during which the Queen ruled, but also that she was an elected ruler and that after her death the Naboo came to prefer an elected, rather than a hereditary, monarchy.

The Queen of beaded emblems ~ The Unidentified Queen of Naboo (Legends)
An unidentified Queen of Naboo reigned some 240 years before the Battle of Naboo. One of her royal gowns was adorned with elegant beaded emblems. More than two centuries later, those ornaments were reused to decorate Queen Amidala's foreign residence dress.
Unfortunately, her name, face, the length of her reign and costumes are unknown to us. Due to that the painter decided to present the Queen in similar costume and hair-dress like the one wore by Amidala, but in white lively colour.
As we only know that she existed thanks to ornaments on Amidala's dress, the artists decided to mark it by boxes with jewellery and colourful clothes in the background.
Even if the name of the lady is mystery to us, she was the Queen, that is why she sits on a throne-like-chair and has scars of remembrance on her face. Behind her, we can also see Naboo royal crest.

The First Queen of Naboo (Legends)
A female of the Human species was anointed the first Queen of Naboo more than three millennia before the Invasion of Naboo in 32 BBY. She was one of the Human colonists who had fled a civil war on the Core World of Grizmallt and established a new civilization on the planet Naboo, a green haven located on the borders of the Outer Rim Territories. On the painting, we can see settlers on the left as they land in a Naboo-Like ships. Also, behind the Queen we can see a tapestry with a solar system indicating that she was an explorer.
While her people was engaged in bloody conflict with the native Gungans, that woman was chosen to lead the colonists, who took the name of their new homeworld and became known as "the Naboo." Although she accepted both the title and the function of Queen, that woman refused to be the founder of a hereditary succession line. (It is symbolized by a broken crest with symbol of a tree on the right.) Instead, the newly elected Queen decreed that her successor would be selected based on their merits only. This started a tradition of meritocratic democracy on Naboo, which would still be used millennia later. However, the constitution of Naboo had a provision that allowed the monarchy to become hereditary for a worthy dynasty, and this happened at least once in history.
Unfortunately, not many information about the Queen survived to our times. We do not know her name or how she looked like. The artist decided to choose for her a simpler costume in shape and tone, similar which was wore by Naboo Senators, to mark that Naboo just starts to build their rich civilisation. The Lady also has a travelling bag indicating that she was a colonist.
On Queen's head we can see a Naboo crest headdress and a Naboo royal crest on the red curtain, underlining the importance of the lady. She indeed was the first ruler of Naboo.
