Transfer of Knowledge to Society:
Knowledge is an important resource for the sustenance of our society. Science is an avenue to explore and produce this knowledge, whereas technology applies this knowledge generated by science to real-life problems. Science contributed vastly to the benefit of society by increasing life expectancy, combating diseases, saving lives, improving the quality of life, etc.
India has made considerable progress in Science & Technology with the advent of its prestigious institutions like IITs, IISc etc and its young demographic population. India produces 3rd highest number of PhDs in science and engineering next only to China and the USA. But this potential scientific knowledge still needs to be transferred to society through various avenues to be utilised for the welfare of the people.
In line with this, the Department of Science & Technology through its Ministry of Science of Technology has released the Scientific Social Responsibility Guidelines. This is a framework to facilitate the integration of science and technology into society. These guidelines emphasize the moral obligation of the scientific community to share the fruits of knowledge with various stakeholders and play an active role in the equitable distribution of knowledge.

Short, stringent lockdowns halted SARS-CoV-2 transmissions in Danish municipalities - Published Aug 12, 2024
Abstract
In late 2020, the focus of the global effort against the COVID-19 pandemic centered around the development of a vaccine, when reports of a mutated SARS-CoV-2 virus variant in a population of 17 million farmed mink came from Denmark, threatening to jeopardize this effort. Spillover infections of the new variant between mink and humans were feared to threaten the efficacy of upcoming vaccines. In this study the ensuing short-lived yet stringent lockdowns imposed in 7 of the countries 98 municipalities are analysed for their effectiveness to reduce SARS-CoV-2 infections. Synthetic counterfactuals are created for each of these municipalities using a weighted average combination of the remaining municipalities not targeted by the stringent measures. This allows for a clear overview regarding the development of test-positivity rates, citizen mobility behaviours and lastly daily infection numbers in response to the restrictions. The findings show that these targeted, short-term lockdowns significantly curtailed further infections, demonstrating a marked decrease, first in citizens mobility and then in daily cases when compared to their synthetic counterfactuals. Overall, the estimates indicate average reductions to infection numbers to be around 31%. This study underscores the potential of strict, yet severe lockdowns in breaking ongoing infection dynamics, by utilising a rare quasi-experimental design case that avoids bias introduced through treatment selection.

Codename: CARVER challenged you to battle!
Lore and close-ups below the break
(❁´◡`❁)
Y'all ever struck by the realization your self-insert immortal incongruently-wizard-coded character can, in fact, have pink hair and eyes?
Okay so anyone happening across this, this is my blorbooo, Magpie, who got isekai'd into the Pokemon world in my pair of fics here and gets runic-flavored quasi magical abilities and immortality by blessing of arceus
Feat. the conceptual design for a Survey Ball - modeled after the Origin Ball and the first/only pokeball Magpie has built out of unown-inscribed starshards since she was experimenting with using shards as charms in tell-the-stars
Anyway Magpie redesign because my poor girl is sick of ruining shirts when she does a Big Magic, hence sleeveless top and experimental runic-imbued greatcoat that can withstand all but the Biggest Magic. In my mind she got pinged by InterPol but refuses to "be a cop" (even if the IP isn't exactly like irl cops) - instead she and Volo serve as consultants and Big Guns whenever the local evil team gets too big for their britches or things like the Ultra Beast/paradoxmon/rediscovered Ultimate Weapon crop up.
Besides the coat she's got unown-style colar chains, her old survey corps badge and the (now empty) Hisui ball to remember her first team of pokemon by.
Team would probably vary by region, the one here is the like ideal aesthetic/lore team (ft allotted quasi-legendary, single shiny (after a couple centuries of idle breeding rather than concentrated focus), and ever the necessary cute mascots Irony the unown and lil baby inkay)
The most mainstaying 'mon on her team is Otto the golurk, which she inscribed-to-life herself in a drawing that I… procrastinated on doing the background on with this character page lmao but here's a sneak peak at that:
ft. chienpao bc it loves Volo a lot, Volo's spiritomb and togetic in the background bc this is their idyllic home in paldea ig (im probably going to redraw mags, ursa and maybe inkay down the line because i remain intimidated by the background i tasked myself with RIP
anywho im going to work on making this a proper pinned post with links and tags for all of the Lore so expect to see it updated lol

Hi! I have to admit that I know nothing about Fallout but would like to understand your AU so idk could you explain Fallout for beginners please? (and maybe how the AU works specifically) 🧡
I’m going to try and put this in the most straightforward terms I can and maybe steal a few things from Wikipedia if I can’t.
And I hope you don't mind, I'll publish this as well so others can learn.
There are currently 7 Fallout games: Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76. (This is not counting the small things like mobile games or the table top games, or even the freaking pinball game either) PLUS there is also the “Fallout” TV show on Amazon (It's good, My dad who knows NOTHING of Fallout loved it) ▬ The Show on Amazon is based in Los Angeles.
▬ The setting, back story, lore, just a little history:
The series is set in a fictionalized USA in an “alternate history scenario” that diverges from reality after 1945, following World War II. In this alternative "golden age", where atomic physics serves as the foundation of scientific progress, which leads to a bizarre socio-technological status quo. This means things like advanced robots, nuclear-powered cars, directed-energy weapons, and other futuristic technologies are seen alongside 1950s-era computers and televisions.
▬ Nuka Cola ad featuring Nuka Girl leaning heavily into the atomic/nuclear aspect
The United States divides itself into 13 commonwealths, and the aesthetics and Cold War paranoia of the 1950s dominated the American lifestyle well into the 21st century.
▬ Map of all of the Fallout Commonwealths
The a whole bunch of history happens, it’s honestly wordy and gives the lead-up to how the bombs dropped on the morning of October 23, 2077, a “global nuclear exchange”, which subsequently created the post-apocalyptic United States, the setting of the Fallout world.
▬ Now, in my AU, I say that Buck is from a Vault.
The U.S. government, having foreseen this outcome just a few decades earlier, began a nationwide project to build fallout shelters known as "Vaults". The Vault-Tec Corporation designed the Vaults as public shelters, each able to support up to a thousand people. Something round 400K Vaults would have been needed if they actually wanted to help the American people, but only 122 were commissioned and constructed.
Vault Boy; He is the corporate mascot of the Vault-Tec, His female counterpart is Vault Girl. They appear in virtually every released game and evolved over the years into a symbol of the Fallout franchise in general.
However, the Vault project was not intended as a viable method of repopulating the United States; instead, most Vaults were secret social experiments and were designed to determine the effects of different environmental and psychological conditions on their inhabitants.
▬Lemme just use Norm Maclean (Fallout Series) here to showcase the sort of view in the vault and the lovely blue and gold jumpsuits ALL vault dwellers basically wear.
Now, only Seventeen control Vaults were made to function as advertised, in contrast with the other Vault experiments. However, they were usually shoddy and unreliable due to most of the funding going towards the experimental ones. Many Vaults remained sealed as part of their respective experiments even after the radiation had reached safe levels.
EDIT: I forgot to actually talk about the Brotherhood of Steel.
▬ Eddie is a former Brotherhood of Steel Knight.
The Brotherhood of Steel, commonly abbreviated to BoS, is a quasi-religious technocratic military order founded in the immediate aftermath of the Great War The BOS' core purpose is to preserve advanced technology and regulate its use. They believe humanity cannot be trusted with the means to destroy itself, and they think that acquiring technology would prevent another apocalypse. The Basics of BOS came from the fall of the western Roman Empire when the knights and scribes kept the fire of civilization going after the empire imploded. The BOS is a military order with a strictly enforced hierarchy and chain of command. At the foundation, that mandates obedience to one's superiors and forbids circumventing ranks when giving orders. When it comes to the individual members of the BOS, loyalty to and defense of the organization are the top priorities, - 1st: Loyalty to and defense of the organization - 2nd: Dedication and loyalty to the mission. - 3rd: Dedication and loyalty to one's superior officer. Brotherhood members are expected to follow each of these rules in that order. If one's superior should act against the interests of the organization or mission, the third rule is superseded by the second or first rule.
▬ Brotherhood of Steel Ranking Structure
The Brotherhood has been featured in every game and other entry in the Fallout series in one form or another.
▬ My manip of Eddie in a Brotherhood jumpsuit
Eddie's History with the BOS without spoilers
▬ My manip of Eddie in a Brotherhood jumpsuit
While homosexual relationships are generally tolerated, they are pressured to instead seek relationships that will result in 'repopulation.' This leads Eddie to be arranged with Shannon, which then leads to Chris's birth, though Eddie and Shannon are able to keep Chris' Cerebal Palsy (though in the FO Universe, it would be considered his 'disorder or ailment) secret from the BOS for the first few years. BOS finds out about Chris, and would never tolerate someone like Chris within their ranks. Eddie ultimately decides he can no longer remain a part of them, and following his own moral compass, he chooses to desert the BOS. The Diazs, on their own, now in this new reality, Eddie is constantly on the lookout, aware that his status as AWOL from the BOS makes him a target.
▬ I have planned in the future that Karen is a former Enclave Scientist.
The Enclave is another military organization dedicated to the execution of an all-inclusive holocaust of non-members, who they dehumanize as "genetic non-compliance offenders." While being the continuation of a pre-war American deep state consisting of high-ranking political, military and corporate figures, its members publicly claim to be the direct continuation of the United States of America and its government after the destruction of the world during the Great War.
▬ Enclave power armor, X-01 power armor
Without going too in-depth with them, it's obvious I hate them, they're the worst, they Suck, and I'm glad Karen left them (In my AU).
here are things I may mention in my AU (when it comes to finally posting my fic)
Pip Boy: The Pip-Boy (Personal Information Processor-Boy) is a wrist computer given to the player (Vault-Dweller) early in the games and series, which serves various roles in quest, inventory, and battle management, as well as presenting player statistics.
▬ This version of the Pip-Boy is not stated in-series, though the official replica sold by The Wand Company is called the Pip-Boy 3000 Mark V
Power Armor: Power Armor, is a type of powered exoskeleton featured in every game in the Fallout series. It allows for protection from enemy fire and enables the wearer to carry cumbersome weapons and other objects with ease. There are so many types, levels and styles of Power Armor. It is considered an iconic part of the Fallout universe, an effective marketing tool for a faceless protagonist, and a prominent symbol within the game's lore. ▬ “Post-war” the Power Armor is most widely used by the Brotherhood of Steel, a cult-like organization that collects and preserves technology (My husband said the BOS is like Mormons and their obsession with Geneology)
▬T-60 Power Armor
There are INSANE Animals that roam the ‘wasteland’. Some were modified by the Government (ie. Death Claws), but some were also just changed by radiation.
▬ BAD: genetically engineered creatures developed by the United States military to replace humans during missions, but they escaped into the wild in the aftermath of the Great War
▬ GOOD: Brahmin are mutated two-headed cattle; they still provide meat, milk, hide, and manual labor.
Ghouls... Ghouls are humans mutated by radiation, rather than killed by it. The mutation process, referred to as "ghoulification", this typically results in an extended lifespan, if not functional immortality, real-time regeneration of wounds allowing for reattaching limbs, and immunity to direct damage resulting from irradiation. However, it changes their appearance, resembling rotting corpses, burn victims, or walking corpses
▬ Cooper Howard - The Ghoul From the Fallout Amazon series
▬ Feral Ghouls in Fallout 4
Now, with my AU, I’m doing a small mix of The TV show, but throwing in elements of Fallout 4 and New Vegas (Kinda) While I won't delve into the details of every single game and its historical context, I hope this overview will provide you with enough information on the basics of Fallout? If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!
Much Love, ▬ Kenna

I've been thinking about werewolf designs recently, which has basically turned into analyzing my least favorite trends in modern werewolf media
pack focus - with a few exceptions, I find a pack of werewolves a huge downgrade from traditional singular ones (not you, Hotel Transylvania wolfman family-- you're angels and and we're thrilled you're here). How is a guy supposed to feel like a properly cursed and outcast abomination while hanging out with his 2 dozen friends who are exactly like him? "Packs" made up of lone lycanthropes who've adopted each other (for good or ill) is alright I guess, and if a whole family gets cursed The Quarry style, that's interesting at least. But I think getting back to solitary menace or lonely outcast werewolves is best.
too wolf-like - a lot of early werewolf accounts have people just turning into straightforward wolves. Some have a transformation into large, predatory creatures, more or less wolf-like depending on the region and the culture, but with features that differentiated them from wolves-- hybrid anatomy, missing tails, human eyes or other features. In others it's just "a creature," without an explicit lupine connection, or even just literally some guy but Powered Up and eating people. So there's no hard and fast "canon" folklore werewolf. Early monster movies (which established a lot of modern werewolf lore and the modern definition of a werewolf) gave us a creature that simply looks like a furry, monstrous humanoid, and nothing really like a wolf. What I'm saying is there's a lot of room for customization and new ideas. But instead I see very little experimentation or creativity, and a lot of Balto-meets-Van Helsing wolf-head-furry-body-man-pants thing (or worse, mangy pitbull rat hybrids) and a commitment to quasi-lupine traits and behaviors. BORING. If you're not married to literal-wolf werewolves, let's see some creativity! Be adventurous! Get inspired by old school werewolves, or do something completely new! Please!
not wolflike enough - if you are committed to generic wolf -based werewolves or anthropomorphic streetsharks-style man-wolves, at least be accurate about it! Wolves in the wild do not have true alpha-omega hierarchies (a pack in the wild is a family unit-- the parents are leaders, the rest of the pack are usually their children). Nor do wolves bite their mates to "mark" them (in fact, I went and looked into it, and didn't find any species that does, so now I'm curious where this whole idea even came from). ALSO it's kind of petty, but so many werewolf designs seem to look more like dogs than real wolves-- narrow nose bridges, too-close-together ears, etc. Basically, so much werewolf content is committed to this generic idea of werewolves that's not accurate to real wolves, frequently unconnected to any werewolf lore, originated in the last 10 or 15 years, and isn't even interesting for all that (with different versions of "generic" depending on genre)-- ditch it, and do something new, or at least accurate!
ugly = scary/boring = sexy - the two big splits of "generic" werewolves I'm seeing are in horror (movies mostly) and romance. Current horror werewolves seem to be stuck with this ugly, disheveled look-- mangy, molting-looking fur, extremely wrinkly, raw-looking face skin, beady eyes, no tails, skinny, bony-looking bodies, huge feet etc (honestly I think the Underworld designs are the progenitors of this); meanwhile romance werewolves are usually big and brawny, with lush fur and swishy tails and a very cartoony balance of human and wolf characteristics (I think this design is indebted to animated movies and furry art, but also think it was very influenced by Van Helsing's werewolves as well). Basically, I'd like some interesting, potentially scary looking werewolves! A scary design is not going to kill the sexiness! At the same time, a design does not have to be purposely ugly in order to be scary! (Case in point, it's not a werewolf, and much more feline, but I adore Angela Barret's design for the beast in Beauty and the Beast-- unique, bestial and potentially frightening, but also sleek and elegant.)
exclusively abo - I get it, I get it. But like, 90% of werewolf romance stuff is the "claimed as the alpha's mate" variety-- I would enjoy some diversity. Also, if it's heat you're into, that's in no way exclusive to either false real-world alpha hierarchies, or invented fictional ones.
#I have Thoughts and Feelings about this subject#and 90% of what's out there is Unsatisfactory#lore and more#werewolf

24 July 2023 / More from Bushy Park! This was the boldest jackdaw.
I'm almost done with this round of spreadsheets and archival material, and I should finish up at least making spreadsheets tomorrow. I might also get to actually reading and taking notes on the correspondence. Or I might get to coding the things I want to do with these spreadsheets. One of the two.
Usually I'd be in the NHM tomorrow, but we delayed everything a week because of the Tube strikes which were then called off. But not going still gives me a chance to make sure that I'm REALLY ready to add more archival stuff to my disaster.
I'm still working on Experimental and Quasi-Experimental Designs. And I sent many emails and had a meeting with my disability mentor for the first time in a few months.

Tunable ultrasound propagation in microscale metamaterials

Tunable ultrasound propagation in microscale metamaterials
Acoustic metamaterials — architected materials that have tailored geometries designed to control the propagation of acoustic or elastic waves through a medium — have been studied extensively through computational and theoretical methods. Physical realizations of these materials to date have been restricted to large sizes and low frequencies.
“The multifunctionality of metamaterials — being simultaneously lightweight and strong while having tunable acoustic properties — make them great candidates for use in extreme-condition engineering applications,” explains Carlos Portela, the Robert N. Noyce Career Development Chair and assistant professor of mechanical engineering at MIT. “But challenges in miniaturizing and characterizing acoustic metamaterials at high frequencies have hindered progress towards realizing advanced materials that have ultrasonic-wave control capabilities.”
A new study coauthored by Portela; Rachel Sun, Jet Lem, and Yun Kai of the MIT Department of Mechanical Engineering (MechE); and Washington DeLima of the U.S. Department of Energy Kansas City National Security Campus presents a design framework for controlling ultrasound wave propagation in microscopic acoustic metamaterials. A paper on the work, “Tailored Ultrasound Propagation in Microscale Metamaterials via Inertia Design,” was recently published in the journal Science Advances.
“Our work proposes a design framework based on precisely positioning microscale spheres to tune how ultrasound waves travel through 3D microscale metamaterials,” says Portela. “Specifically, we investigate how placing microscopic spherical masses within a metamaterial lattice affect how fast ultrasound waves travel throughout, ultimately leading to wave guiding or focusing responses.”
Through nondestructive, high-throughput laser-ultrasonics characterization, the team experimentally demonstrates tunable elastic-wave velocities within microscale materials. They use the varied wave velocities to spatially and temporally tune wave propagation in microscale materials, also demonstrating an acoustic demultiplexer (a device that separates one acoustic signal into multiple output signals). The work paves the way for microscale devices and components that could be useful for ultrasound imaging or information transmission via ultrasound.
“Using simple geometrical changes, this design framework expands the tunable dynamic property space of metamaterials, enabling straightforward design and fabrication of microscale acoustic metamaterials and devices,” says Portela.
The research also advances experimental capabilities, including fabrication and characterization, of microscale acoustic metamaterials toward application in medical ultrasound and mechanical computing applications, and underscores the underlying mechanics of ultrasound wave propagation in metamaterials, tuning dynamic properties via simple geometric changes and describing these changes as a function of changes in mass and stiffness. More importantly, the framework is amenable to other fabrication techniques beyond the microscale, requiring merely a single constituent material and one base 3D geometry to attain largely tunable properties.
“The beauty of this framework is that it fundamentally links physical material properties to geometric features. By placing spherical masses on a spring-like lattice scaffold, we could create direct analogies for how mass affects quasi-static stiffness and dynamic wave velocity,” says Sun, first author of the study. “I realized that we could obtain hundreds of different designs and corresponding material properties regardless of whether we vibrated or slowly compressed the materials.”

Sensometric Evaluation of Minimally Processed Snapping Shrimp (Alpheus sp.) Cold Cuts in Aquaculture
Abstract
Sensory research in aquaculture has been developed in different ways depending on the commercial interests of the species implicated. The application of aquaculture research has shown tremendous impact for the continued growth of the industry needs and to complement the findings and possibilities offered by sensometric. The main purpose of the study is to produce snapping shrimp processed into cold cuts (luncheon meat) and utilized to evaluate the sensory acceptability of snapping shrimp processed cold cuts in terms of appearance, aroma, mouthfeel, texture, taste, and overall acceptability. A mixed-methods research design was used in the study. A quasi-experimental design was used to test the preliminary characteristics and 9-point hedonic scale for consumer preferences. Results have shown that the proposed selling price of T0 is P 16.8 compared to T4, which is P 19.78. The shelf-life and other physical characteristics, including aroma and appearance for both at room temperature and in the refrigerator, showed no changes from day 1 to day 7. The luncheon meat also possessed remarkable physical characteristics while being stored at a high freezing point. There is a significant difference in terms of appearance, aroma, mouthfeel, texture, taste, and overall acceptability in five (5) treatments. This further implied that all treatments have different levels of acceptability in terms of the four (4) sensory attributes. From the 5 treatments used, T2 (25% pork and 75% snapping shrimp) was the most accepted and considered preferable by the respondents compared to other treatments. The processed cold cuts (luncheon meat) have a potential for adoption either from the identified community or from aquaculture entrepreneurs.
Introduction
In the past decades, aquaculture has been one of the most promising production industries. It is the controlled process of cultivating aquatic organisms that is being used, particularly for human consumption. It’s a similar concept to agriculture, but with fish instead of plants or livestock. Aquaculture is also referred to as fish farming. The seafood that you find at your local grocery store is likely labeled as farmed fish. Aquaculture can happen all over the world, either in coastal ocean waters, freshwater ponds and rivers, or even on land in tanks. Several studies, like the study of Yongqiang Zhao et al. (2020), have suggested that changes in the production process, especially those related to nutritional and feeding interventions may have an impact on the final quality of farmed animal food products, including those from aquaculture.
One of the examples of an integrated approach to closing the gap between consumers’ responses and aquaculture products is the sensorial quality aspects that could be altered by the inclusion of new alternative protein and lipid sources in aquafeed. Applied research efforts in aquaculture should recognize the significance of consumers’ behavior and preferences with the aim of making this industry economically sustainable. Until now, sensory research in aquaculture has been developed in different ways depending on the commercial interests of the species implicated. The sensory analyses generally used in aquaculture were identified in four main application research areas: nutrition and feeding, production aspects, quality products, and marketing topics (Calanche et al., 2019). The existence of snapping shrimp (Alpheus sp.) is very timely, as it's one of the most promising marine products that have greater potential for aquaculture production. Knowing its biology and habitat classification, with the addition of several trials of experiment conducted, this species has a high opportunity for mass production. Snapping shrimp is one of the fishery resources that are abundant in the town of Calape, Bohol. They live particularly in coastal areas with a wide intertidal zone, mangroves, and rich mud banks. This species is locally known as “takla” because of its very unique sounds and is considered a seafood delicacy in the municipality. Shrimp that is among the worlds fastest and that produces the loudest sounds underwater. They use the sound to communicate with one another and to defend their territory (Baobao et al., 2015).
The abundance of snapping shrimp in the locality was one of the factors that the researchers considered in developing processed cold cuts, which are generally termed luncheon meat. Luncheon meat is a type of cooked meat that is often sold in tins. It is a mixture of meat and other ingredients. It is convenient and shelf-stable. One of the biggest benefits of luncheon meat is that it is convenient and easy to prepare when running short on time or with limited ingredients available. It is also shelf-stable, which makes it simpler to stock up on compared to perishable protein foods like chicken or beef. In addition to these, luncheon meat has healthy benefits; it provides small amounts of vitamin C, magnesium, folate, and calcium. Luncheon meat is high in calories, fat, and sodium but also contains some protein, zinc, potassium, iron, and copper (Harcourt, 2010).
Eating cold cuts like luncheon meat is convenient; no cutting or cooking is required. Simply buy the meat, slap it on the sand or in a wrap, and head out the door. They are also high in protein and beneficial vitamins and minerals such as iron, zinc, and vitamin B12. On the flip side, they are high in saturated fat, both of which you’ll want to be especially wary of if you have heart disease or high blood pressure (Younkin, 2017). Luncheon meat is a canned lunch meat product. It has a salty and slightly spicy ham flavor with a moist and spongy texture similar to sausage patties. You can eat uncooked luncheon meat because it is already steamed; it can be eaten straight from the can and requires minimal preparation prior to eating. It is also highly versatile and can be added to a wide variety of recipes. One of the first things you need to know about canned meats or luncheon meat is that they are almost always already cooked (Miranda, 2020). Generations of Filipinos love eating processed cold cuts of luncheon meat regularly, typically sliced or diced, then stir-fried and served on a bed of steamed rice, sometimes with a fried egg. It is now devoured in 44 countries worldwide, but it first came to life in 1937 in the small town of Austin, Minnesota. Fried, baked, boiled, or braised, the porkbased luncheon meat was first a hit in the US during the great depression and then in Asia after World War II. It is noticeable that people are very busy and are always in a hurry nowadays. The number of groceries and manufacturers of canned goods like luncheon meat is increasing because people have less time to cook and prepare their own food. Canned goods are the best choice for an emergency food supply. Canned goods luncheon meat can provide protein of high nutritional value for what is considered a highly nutritious food.
Some of the sensometric components include appearance, which is the most important attribute of any food’s appearance, and color, especially when it is directly associated with other food-quality attributes. The color quality of the illumination, in terms of intensity, color temperature, and fidelity, and the nature of the structure of the product all affect the appearance. Another preference is in aroma, where it is very sensitive to the processing and storage conditions. Flavor loss as well as off-flavor development is a problem of the food industry and could be limited by the encapsulation of the volatile ingredients prior to their use (Madene et al., 2006). The texture is defined as those properties of a food that are sensed by touch in the mouth and with the hands. We use many words to describe food texture. Foods can be soft or hard, mushy or crunchy, or smooth or lumpy. It is most important to the enjoyment and acceptability of foods, as well as the taste of some of the finest things in life. The most amazing finding is that taste sensitivity varies from person to person. It comes from a chain reaction that starts with sensitive proteins on the tongue, races through taste buds, enters the nerves, and ends with the brain. Almost everyone lives in a unique taste world, which directly relates to the interaction food has with the consumer at a given moment in time. The factors that affect food acceptability are different for the foods they love and hate. Overall acceptability includes customer characteristics, sensory characteristics of food, and the feel-good factor (Maina, 2018).
Processing snapping shrimp meat is a significant sector of the global economy, contributing to food security and nutrition as well as livelihoods. Processed food enables the supply of safe, affordable, and nutritious foods. The processed food sector accounts for a significant share of income generation and employment, is essential to maintaining a steady global supply of safe, affordable, and nutritious foods, and is thus key to supporting food security and nutrition. Processed food reduces the number of harmful bacteria in food that can cause diseases. It boosts the shelf life of food products and provides employment to a large population. Processed foods have been preserved by steaming, salting, or adding chemical preservatives. It refers to any food that is changed from its natural state. This may include adding preservatives, flavors, nutrients, and other food additives. It has a place in healthy diets. The key to healthy eating is to educate yourself on what to look for and talk with your health care professional or nutrition expert to discuss a food plan that works best for you (Harguth, 2022).
In this study, it only focused on the application of this species to aquaculture and the sensometric characteristics of a new product of processed cold cuts of luncheon meat; however, it showed some significant application not only to the contribution of the body of knowledge but also to the applicability for research utilization and commercialization of the product. The results of the patent search showed tremendous impact on the potential of commercialization for the following reasons: first, PH22019000243Y1 discloses the process of producing fresh water shrimp meat dumplings; second, RU2337589C1 specifies the method of manufacturing special-purpose canned food soup with shrimps and third, the RU 02332083 method of production of preserved food shrimps with vegetables and potherbs is invented. The prior art mentioned above discloses the methods and composition of producing freshwater shrimp and dumplings. Although they are using the same commodity, which is shrimp, there are features and meat quality compositions that are different from freshwater and snapping shrimp. The product is dumplings, but the present invention relates to snapping shrimp luncheon meat in a tin aluminum can. Another prior art is the production of canned shrimp soup. In this invention, there is no disclosure as to what type of shrimp is used or the amount of soup that is added. The present invention is different because the processed snapping shrimp has no liquid in the canned product. The last prior art discloses the ingredients used in the preparation of the preserved food shrimps with vegetables and potherbs. The present invention is different from the last prior art since no liquid is involved in the canned processed food. No mention was also made of the kind of shrimp used.
Generally, this study aims to determine the potential of snapping shrimp for aquaculture and the sensometric value of processed cold cuts (luncheon meat) of snapping shrimps. Specifically, this study focuses on the following indices: 1) qualitative description of the snapping shrimp in making processed cold cuts (luncheon meat); 2) preliminary assessment; 3) sensometric components of the snapping shrimp processed cold cuts (luncheon meat) in terms of appearance, aroma, taste, texture, and overall acceptability in the five treatments identified: T0- (100% pork luncheon meat), T1 (50% pork + 50% snapping shrimp), T2 (25% pork + 75% snapping shrimp), T3 (75% pork + 25% snapping shrimp), T4 (100% snapping shrimp); and 3) significant differences in the acceptability.

Integrated Solutions for Business Investment: Driving Quality Impact Evaluations through Collaborative Methodologies
In today’s world, businesses are increasingly recognizing the value of investing in communities and sectors beyond traditional markets. As organizations across sectors expand their focus on sustainability, social responsibility, and long-term impact, there’s a growing need for robust evaluation frameworks to assess the real outcomes of these initiatives. Evidence for Change is a leading name in this space, delivering integrated solutions for business investment by leveraging evidence-based methodologies and designing frameworks that help businesses and organizations measure impact, learn from their interventions, and continuously improve their strategies.
At the heart of Evidence for Change’s work lies its focus on quality impact evaluations. Whether through experimental, quasi-experimental, mixed-method, or qualitative methods, the organization has a deep commitment to providing evidence that is not only rigorous but also actionable. In a world where businesses are increasingly accountable for their social, economic, and environmental footprints, having a reliable partner like Evidence for Change can mean the difference between well-intentioned but short-term impact and lasting, transformational change.
A Collaborative Approach to Impact Evaluation
One of the distinctive aspects of Evidence for Change is its collaborative process. Drawing on years of experience in research, evaluation, and learning, the organization works hand in hand with partners and stakeholders at every step of the way. From inception to implementation, the participatory approach ensures that evaluation is not a distant, top-down process but rather one that actively involves the communities, staff, and organizations being evaluated.
This inclusive and iterative approach is vital for ensuring that the insights and recommendations generated are relevant, feasible, and actionable. As part of this collaboration, Evidence for Change has built partnerships with numerous prestigious institutions worldwide, including Stanford University, Krea University, and the Indian Statistical Institute, to name a few. These partnerships bring together a wealth of expertise and perspectives, further enhancing the quality and depth of the evaluations conducted.
One recent example of the organization’s collaborative approach is its work on the National Rural Livelihood Project (NRLP) in India. Working alongside 3ie and the Government, Evidence for Change conducted an extensive evaluation focusing on women’s empowerment and decision-making within households. By studying the impact of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in facilitating women’s access to credit and sustainable livelihoods, the evaluation provided critical insights into the institutional support structures necessary for true financial inclusion. The findings helped refine the programme’s strategies and informed public policies aimed at scaling the empowerment of women across the nation.
Integrated Solutions for Business Investment
Today, businesses are increasingly investing in sustainable and inclusive ventures. However, the challenge remains to ensure that these investments are not only well-intentioned but also deliver measurable outcomes. Evidence for Change specializes in designing integrated solutions for business investment, helping companies align their investments with clear, evidence-backed frameworks. These solutions ensure that business investments create tangible, scalable, and sustainable impacts across various domains.
Evidence for Change works across multiple sectors, from rural development and agriculture to women’s empowerment and public health. For instance, its literature review of interventions facilitating smallholder farmers’ access to the market in India provided a valuable analysis of producer organizations and their sustainability as institutions. This review, rooted in the hierarchy of study design, offered businesses and organizations insights into how they could contribute to more resilient and equitable agricultural systems. By providing organizations with robust frameworks and clear pathways for intervention, Evidence for Change enables them to make strategic investments that yield lasting benefits.
Methodologies that Matter
One of the hallmarks of Evidence for Change is its pluralistic methodologies. By employing a wide range of approaches, from participatory learning and action to rigorous experimental designs, the organization ensures that evaluations are comprehensive and contextually relevant. This diversity in methods allows Evidence for Change to tailor its evaluations to the specific needs of the programme or initiative in question, ensuring that all relevant factors are considered.
For example, in its impact evaluation of Breakthrough’s programme aimed at addressing early marriage in Bihar and Jharkhand, Evidence for Change employed an experimental design to measure the effectiveness of mass and community media interventions. The findings from this study were critical in refining the programme’s approach, making it more impactful in reducing early marriage rates in the target districts.
Similarly, the organization’s formative research on nutrition in Madhya Pradesh highlighted the intricate relationships between seasonality, agriculture, and nutrition among pregnant and lactating women, as well as children under five. By using mixed methods to explore these dynamics, Evidence for Change was able to provide actionable insights that could be used to shape interventions aimed at improving nutritional outcomes for vulnerable populations.
Building Capacity for Sustainable Impact
Beyond conducting evaluations, Evidence for Change is also deeply committed to building capacity within organizations to sustain long-term impact. This includes helping organizations develop monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) systems that are efficient, adaptable, and grounded in a multidisciplinary approach. By embedding these systems within organizations, Evidence for Change ensures that they can continue to assess, learn, and adapt long after the initial evaluation has been completed.
The organization’s work in building these systems is often informed by its collaborations with partners such as Tufts University and the University of Reading. By combining academic rigor with practical implementation, these partnerships ensure that the monitoring and evaluation systems designed by Evidence for Change are both scientifically sound and operationally effective.
Shaping Policy and Program Strategies
Evidence for Change has a strong track record of using evidence to shape both public policies and organizational strategies. Over the years, the organization has completed more than 100 project and programme evaluations, each designed to help communities and programme staff reflect on their work, learn from their experiences, and apply new strategies for greater impact.
For example, the organization’s evaluations of SHG programmes have not only informed local interventions but also contributed to broader national policies aimed at promoting women’s empowerment and financial inclusion. These evaluations provide clear evidence of the pathways through which SHGs can support women in gaining greater decision-making power within their households and communities.
Conclusion
In an increasingly complex and interconnected world, businesses and organizations need more than just good intentions to create lasting change. They need clear, evidence-based frameworks that can guide their investments and ensure that their interventions are both effective and sustainable. Evidence for Change is a leader in providing integrated solutions for business investment, ensuring that organizations can make informed, impactful decisions that benefit both the communities they serve and their own long-term objectives.
By specializing in quality impact evaluations and working collaboratively with a wide range of partners, Evidence for Change is helping to shape a future where business investments drive real, measurable change across sectors. Whether through formative research, impact evaluations, or policy-shaping initiatives, the organization is at the forefront of using evidence to create a more just and sustainable world.

Primary Research
Research Methodology
Research design: Natural/Quasi Experiment
I will be using a non-experimental research method: self reports. The data collection method will be through an online questionnaire.
This is because I want to get a range of information from a large and diverse sample pool. With an online survey, I can get responses from several different types of participants with would increase the generalisability of my studies. Self reports allow participants to describe their own experiences which provides rich in-depth qualitative data. My research aims to find out audience preferences, so this is the best method for getting comprehensive answers to my aims. In addition, a self report is the easiest and most accessible research method for me and is much less costly and time consuming than conducting an experiment.
Furthermore, I’m using a questionnaire because social desirability bias is reduced due to no interviewer being present.
I will make use of likert scales, rating scales, closed questions, and open questions in order to gather both quantitative and qualitative data. In addition, the range of different types of questions will reduce acquiescence bias.
In order to have a comprehensive understanding of the sample participants, I will include questions that will help me assess the generalisability of the study: participants' age, nationality, location, occupation, gender, and education. These questions are as follows:
What is your age?
What is your gender? (Man, Woman, Non-binary/other, Prefer not to say)
What is your nationality?
Where do you currently live? (Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, South America, Australia)
What is your occupation?
What is your highest level of education? (Secondary education or lower, High school diploma, Undergraduate degree, Postgraduate education or higher, other)
The survey will include the below filler questions that prevent participants from guessing the aims of the study. This is in order to reduce demand characteristics.
Do you prefer stories with a clear beginning, middle, and end, or those with a more open-ended structure? (clear beginning, middle, and end, open-ended structure, no preference, I don’t know)
What do you find most important in a story: character development, plot, or setting? (character development, plot, setting, no preference, I don’t know)
How do you feel about stories that break traditional storytelling conventions? (I heavily enjoy those stories, I like them, I have no opinion on it, I dislike it, I hate those stories)
(For the section 5 Likert scale) I find a story more engaging when the main character is someone I identify with or relate to in some way.
(For the section 5 Likert scale) I enjoy stories that explore social or political issues.

In a first aid training courses class, you learn to help with a range of injuries and illnesses including burns, fractures, poisoning and shock. You can also expect to learn about the anatomy of the heart and lungs, as well as standard precautions and protective barriers.
For example, imagine that someone slips and falls on a rock, injuring their foot. A quick assessment might show that they have a broken foot, which could be treated by elevating the foot and applying a cold compress. You might also have to use the automated external defibrillator (AED) to help restart the person’s heart. Other equipment you may need includes splints, wound cleaning materials and medications such as pain relievers or antihistamines. You will often get to practice using the AED and giving rescue breaths in a hands-on training session.
First Aid
First Aid is a range of techniques that can be used to help someone who has been injured. It focuses on preserving life and stopping bad medical conditions from getting worse until an actual professional can take over.
A typical first aid course will cover a number of topics including the recovery position, choking, seizures and how to recognise and prevent poisoning. They will usually also teach people how to give a person who is choking five back thrusts (or abdominal thrusts) to dislodge anything that could be blocking their airway.
First aid course are very useful for anyone, but particularly those who work in a risky environment like police or fire crews, dentists and doctors. They can help give them confidence and skills that they might need in an emergency, which can potentially save lives. Taking the time to learn these essential skills is well worth it.
Basic Life Support
BLS is a lifesaving training course that teaches participants how to help someone in a medical emergency. It includes cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques for infants, children, and adults, and using automated external defibrillators (AEDs). BLS also covers relieving foreign-body airway obstruction, such as choking.
The goal of BLS is to keep an injured person alive until more advanced treatment is available. For this reason, healthcare workers and other people who may interact with a patient are required to take a BLS course.
BLS certification is especially important for doctors, nurses, medical students and interns, paramedics and EMTs, and lifeguards. It enables them to respond quickly to an emergency situation and save lives. In addition, it is useful for those who work in public safety and other occupations that require them to interact with the general public. Moreover, it is essential for many professions and can greatly improve one’s career prospects. The study used a non-randomized quasi-experimental design and included a sample of 65 nursing students.
Advanced Life Support
The Advanced Life Support (ALS) course trains a variety of healthcare professionals to recognize several life-threatening emergencies first aid course Brisbane, provide CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED), and relieve choking. It also teaches how to administer therapeutic drugs, such as epinephrine, atropine and naloxone, to treat victims of cardiac arrest.
The ALS classroom course uses specialized equipment and tools, such as cardiac monitors and defibrillators. It teaches how to recognize and respond to cardiac arrhythmias, and how to use airway management devices such as oral pharyngeal airways and endotracheal tubes. It also includes training on bleeding control and wound management.
The Red Cross ALS classes also teach how to assess respiratory emergencies, such as asthma and bronchitis. These courses feature Digital Certification that provides anytime, anywhere access to students’ training history and course certificates. The certificates can be viewed, printed and shared online. This makes the certificates easy to share with employers and meet workforce compliance requirements.

Effect of a motor behavior course on kinesiology students’ attitudes toward disability: A quasi-experimental study
This quasi-experimental study used a nonrandomized, control group pre-test post-test research design to determine the effect of a motor behavior course with a social justice perspective on undergraduate students’ attitudes toward people with disabilities, alignment with the medical and social models of disability, and mobility beliefs. Undergraduate students enrolled at a public university (n=714) completed survey measures before and after participation in a 10-week course. Intervention group participants (n=357) were drawn from a required course for Kinesiology students that included social justice topics and video-based contact with people with disabilities. Control group participants (n=357) were drawn from a required course for all students that did not include social justice content. Separate one-way ANCOVAs were conducted to identify differences in outcomes between groups, controlling for baseline measures and demographic characteristics. Results indicate that participants in the intervention group reported more favorable attitudes toward people with disabilities, lower medical model scores, higher social model scores, and more favorable views toward self-directed mobility as a human right. Integrating social justice concepts into the classroom may be an important addition to undergraduate Kinesiology curriculums and a valuable intervention strategy to positively influence Kinesiology student attitudes.
