Six New Named Titan Lakes!
Hot off the presses from the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature (5/23/2024)
The IAU Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature has approved the names Chapala Lacus , Robino Lacus, Fena Lacus, Dem Lacus, Tibi Lacus, and Vaca Lacus for six features on Titan. For more information, please see the Titan North Pole nomenclature map in the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature
All six new named features are lakes (lacus) and are all named after lakes on Earth
Chapala Lacus: Named after a lake in Mexico
Dem Lacus: Named after a Lake in Burkina Faso
Fena Lacus: Named after a lake in Guam
Robino Lacus: Named after a lake in Haiti
Tibi Lacus: Named after a lake in the Sierra Leone
Vaca Lacus: Named after a Lake in Belize
All six lakes are visible from Cassini between 72-78 degrees latitude and 129-144 degrees longitude on Titan. The lakes are the small dark smudges:
The images above were recovered from the Cassini RADAR images taken of the spot on September 30, 2005 (T18-S01). This was done via pydar—a Python tool I help develop
Side note: it took longer than expected to get these changes up in Pydar because the web scrapper in place kept failing mysteriously. I think the folks that run the planetary data service for Cassini should sent me—me specifically—an email to tell me they were updating the website URL from “pds-imaging.jpl.nasa.gov” to “planetarydata.jpl.nasa.gov” since it broke the backend for Pydar in a very strange way and I couldn’t find any reference to the change. All fixed now but it was confusing to debug

Awesome First Project Back - Powerful Sound Analysis with Artificial Intelligence and Python!!
This is a project I just completed that does powerful sound analysis on the Star-Spangled Banner using librosa, matplotlib, and numpy with Python! It's so cool, I am really excited to have completed it!
This is the program I wrote which I have a guide on how to do this project on Medium which you can find here:
This is the results of the program which is pretty cool! Here are the plots that were generated thanks to the power of Matplotlib!!
If you want to play around with it feel free, I am going to be uploading the code later to my Github!! :D My Github is: https://github.com/Newt93

i remember in college id tell people i wanted to go to grad school for linguistics and theyd be like ohhh interesting what can you do with a masters or phd in linguistics and id have to be like oh computational linguistics is a growing field right now so probably something with natural language processing and they'd be satisfied with that. but little did they know i didnt actually want that at all. the one time i did nlp for a class it was stupid and i hated it. i just wanted to learn advanced linguistic theory in the intensive setting of grad school. i didnt even want to do research or write a language grammar or anything... just theory
im still kind of like that with, like, most things? i hate real life application and use. i wish it would die
#it didnt help that my project was analyzing sentiment analysis on twitter. sentiment analysis is kind of cool but#dealing with twitter api and python without experience in either was frustrating#i was also extremely depressed that semester to the point that i almost took a break from college but theres no way that affected my view..

New (Named) Crater on Saturn's Moon Titan!
Ihi Crater
The crater has been there for a while, but an official name has just been adopted on March 21, 2024 by the IAU. The crater is named Ihi, after a Tahitian goddess of wisdom and learning
The crater is located between -7.40° to -8.29° latitude and 164.75° and 165.46° longitude on the moon's surface

Y’all I’m so sad. I keep playing video games made by one or two people and now I want to make a video game soooooooo bad so I can design my perfect game and more importantly make the art. But!! Programming is my mortal enemy she and I do NOT get along. Maybe I could make something simple in terms of programming like a visual novel but I want more involved gameplay :,( I really want a fun video game project now
#daydreaming about making a programming friend who wants to work on a project with me#I have the game idea and everything just not the skills to make it#either I have to learn or I have to cry#anyways does anyone have suggestions for intuitive engines to build a game on?#I can use python I just fuckin suck at it#oh anyways I’m back#I was gone on a trip to visit my dad in the hospital in a nearby city#and I had nothing to do but play video games all day#hence my new ideas#but I’m back now!!#let the posting resume#lea talks

Heart Failure Bummer
I guess the dataset was not that great for heart failure mortality prediction. Unfortunately that means I am going to have to try and find some other project to do this week. I tried out 4 different models and a Multi-Layer Perceptron model, and there was just nothing there really. It got 74% max CVS so it is not viable for use in medical cases like that. However, it's back to the drawing board until I find something that will be beneficial to do as a project to help patients!
