The first time you wear one of Arven’s shirts, he’s very puzzled.

Standing at the doorway to his room, he watches you work. He left a few moments ago to grab some snacks, and when he came back, the last thing he expected to return to was his girlfriend standing topless in front of his closet. At first, this leaves him speechless and flustered.

Then, he observes as you pick his favorite, comfiest, yellowest sweater out of his wardrobe and toss it over your head. This is where the confusion ensues.

“...What are you doing?” he asks, leaning against the doorframe while his lips curl into a grin. 

You stop flattening out the hem of his sweater, freezing in place. You’ve been caught red-handed. Rather than explaining yourself, outwardly panicking, or apologizing, you simply mutter, “Don’t worry about it,” before continuing to situate yourself in his clothing. You don’t even turn around to address him. 

He won’t lie to himself – something about seeing you with his shirt engulfing your tiny frame has Butterfrees going nuts in his stomach. There’s something simultaneously adorable and hot about the sight of you in his favorite article of clothing; about how the fabric reaches your knees, and the sleeves go past your hands, creating little paws when you lift them up. Not knowing how exactly to respond to this situation, Arven decides to leave it be. 

The next time you wear one of his shirts, it’s his white uniform top. ‘Why that old thing?’ he silently wonders.

You two don’t even have classes to attend that day – you’re just grabbing sandwiches at the local Every Wich Way. The shirt you had on originally matched your outfit more than this, too – your pastel pink leggings worked better with the pastel purple hoodie you had on up top. 

Feeling his cheeks burn hot when he peers down at the way his dress shirt drapes over you, he decides once again not to question it. It’s not like you’re gonna keep stealing his stuff, right?

…‘Again?!’ Arven thinks to himself the third time. 

He left you alone to take a shower and change after a long day outdoors with your teams, and when you return to him, another one of his sweaters is consuming your torso. This one is a black, Shiny Wooloo wool turtleneck that he bought while interning at a restaurant in Galar a few years back.

“I gotta know,” he prompts, getting up from his spot on the couch and walking towards you. “Why do you keep taking my shirts?”

Your cheeks redden, and you look away from his face. “Thought I told ya not to worry about it, punk,” you sass.

Arven laughs. “I’m not worried, I’m just confused.” You try to walk by him, but he stops you with your ultimate weakness: head pats. As his large palm lands on your scalp, you stop in your tracks. “I don’t mind you wearing my stuff, it looks adorable on you anyway,” he reassures you behind a wide smile. “I just wanna know why.” 

You sigh, before bashfully answering, “Your clothes are really cozy, and they smell good.” You fidget with the oversized sleeves around your hands, finally looking up at him. “Feels like you’re constantly hugging me when I have one of your shirts on... It’s nice.”

Arven nearly keels over. ‘So cute!’ If this man wasn’t already head over heels for you, he definitely would be now.

From that point on, Arven goes out of his way to offer you his clothes. Oh, you wanna stay over for a night? Screw those pajamas, take one of his tees instead. 

Is it chilly out? Toss one of his sweaters, maybe even one of his jackets, over your own shirt to keep warm. 

Not seeing each other for a few days? He’ll offer you half his wardrobe. “That way you never run out of hugs!” he proclaims, making you feel warm and fuzzy inside. 

Now that Arven knows your “secret,” he might love seeing you wear his shirts just as much as you love wearing them, if not more.

A New Look?

Alternative title: What I would give genshin guys to wear

Basically Reverse isekai but now you gotta make normal outfits for the characters so they don't stick out like a sore thumb. It can also be read as modern AU outfits if you prefer

Characters in order:

Heizou, Xiao, Albedo, Zhongli, Wanderer, Kaeya, Venti, Ayato, Diluc, Kazuha

Honestly heizou would be an easy pick. Old fashioned British detective style. Sherlock Holmes, trench coats, shades of brown, all that jazz. Also, give him access to true crime podcasts, he'll never be bored again. 

I'd give xiao the ol' hot topic skater fit. Black, band tees, lots of rings and jewelry, fake pieces, ripped jeans, yeaa. It matches his personality too. Not with fashion but if you do get band t shirts tell him alot about said band just incase one of those "name five members or your not a true fan" people talk to him. 

Albedo gets the light academia scholar outfits. Kinda chill, collared shirts, lighter colors, shades of brown and blue. Some gold every once in a while. Loose fitting stuff. Flowy sleeves. Lots of rings. Maybe one or two gold necklaces that he wears every once in a while. The type of outfits you see those aesthetic college student wearing. Maybe a bit of cottagecore. Lots of white shirts. 

Zhongli would look like that one professor that everybody has a crush on tbh. Not as formal as what he wears in game but still, collared shirts, suits once in a while, always wears a tie, owns one dark brown trench coat that he wears everywhere at all costs. Lots of darker browns with gold accents here and there. Not a necklace kinda guy but wears a good amount of rings. Totally has reading glasses. Has alot of custom hair pins for some reason? Idk I just feel like he does. Has 100 pairs of dress shoes, and like one pair of black boots. Nothing else. Also If you give him his own closet it's so organized. Spotless, everything fits in the closet right, its honestly impressive. 

Wanderer would be alot like Xiao. Hot topic's no. 1 customer. He'd have more of a blue and purple color scheme than black though. Actually listens to all the bands he has shirts of. Big punk fan. Wears this one black beanie with a skull on it basically every day. His shoe game is good, like really good. Had alot of platform shoes so he can look taller. Lots of cropped shirts that looked ripped. No long sleeves, short sleeves and sleeveless tees. An absolute MASTER at makeup, specifically eyeliner. Lotsssss of turtlenecks. 

Ooohoho now Kaeya would be f u n to style. Has a more simple style. Those pinterest dudes?? Yeah, think of that. Plain colored shirts, turtlenecks alot, almost never sleeveless. Lots of long sleeves stuff.

Give him one of those black corsets that I always see, since he wears one on his original outfit. Wears necklaces, but doesnt layer them or anything. One simple necklace at a time. A TON of silver rings. Hes got those pinterest guy hands. Wears sheer black gloves. Has this one cropped blue jacket but it's more of a sweater and he always wears it when layering clothing. 

Hanging earrings are necessary for him. Has a belt with a snowflake design on it that he uses alot. Almost never wears sweaters. Wears blue, grey, and black almost religiously. 

Ahhh venti :) Think similar to albedos but more Victorian than college student vibes. Again, long sleeves, flowy, lotssss of ruffles, has a generous amount of green accents. Has this one emerald necklace that resembles a vision somewhat and he adores it. Never takes it off. Not a giant ring person, but has around a thousand hats. Paper boy hats in green, might own a bucket hat or two? Hes got the whole hat-universe. Always wear white socks that go just below his knees with EVERYTHING. Has multiple pairs and some are a bit more sheer than the others. Has a pair or two of white fingerless gloves to wear with long sleeves, and full, white and sheer gloves he wears when he isnt wearing long sleeves. White button ups are his life. Usually doesnt tuck said button ups in.   (Totally not a walking mitski reference) 

Ayato isnt THAT complex. And he's got similar style to Zhongli, but complety different color schemes. Wears suits often, and they follow a pattern. White shirt, black tie, light blue suit jacket. The icon of white pants, he basically never wears anything else. For smaller accessories they're usually dark blue or black in color. Not a ring person either, but wears one or two black rings occasionally. Has earrings but not dangly ones. Just black studs. Has alot of dark blue hair pins to keep his hair back. Theres no way his hair naturally just stays that way ok?? Every single boba place within 40 miles knows his name and face by memory. Wears the same looking black shoes all the time. 

Diluc is probably another trench coat kinda guy. Less suits, more trench coats for him. In the fancy looking suit and tie gang with Ayato and Zhongli. Usually wears black button ups instead of white ones, with a crimson red tie and a brown trench coat, or a white tie and a darker red coat. Totally not an accessories guy. No necklaces, earrings, and maybe just one single gold rings he wears once every century. Another black shoes only person. I feel like the coats he wear have some fur on them in places. Just a thought. Always carries around like 3 extra hair ties in his pocket just in case he need one. 

Kazuha is a comfy clothing icon. Not one for a thousand things on his outfits for aesthetic purposes, just wears what he likes and adds accessories if he feels like it.  And absolute king of the fall outfit aesthetic. Outfits usually consists of slightly baggy autumn colored shirts, always short sleeves. Sweatpants or just light colored/bleached cuffed jeans. (Yes I said CUFFED) And occasionally has a darker colored orange and red knit sweater over him. Probably has one or two necklaces on at a time. Always wears this one necklace with a gold chain and a maple leaf charm on it. A gold colored accessories person. Most of the rings he has are gold. Has his ears pierced and usually wears black or gold studs. Sonetimes he wears dangly earrings but nothing to crazy. Ties his hair back a lot less.

👖 JEANS - what is their go-to outfit? For everybody!

Mia wears whatever is comfortable and trendy; right now her wardrobe has a lot of cute crop tops, high-waisted shorts and jeans, oversized sweaters, and colorful striped tees. Her shoes are mostly canvas flats, with a few dressier options for special occasions. She wears a lot of bright, poppy primary colors along with tan, grey, denim blue, and black. Her most favorite outfit is her white ankle jeans, yellow sunflower-print crop top, and bright yellow espadrilles!

Sia dresses with a bit more sophistication than her little sister, but still dresses appropriately for her age. A lot of jewel-toned plaids on skirts, jackets, and cropped trousers. Crisp white and black blouses and mock turtlenecks, and soft brown and black leather loafers. She feels right at home in pretty preppy and academic-inspired looks! Her favorite outfit is a tie-neck white blouse, deep royal blue plaid pinafore, and brown tasseled loafers with knee socks.

Jon isn't very much into being fashionable; he is more about utility than appearance when he purchases clothing. He owns a lot of solid color polo shirts, durable canvas slacks in muted colors, and slimming zip-up jackets. He wears a lot of earth tones, and if he does splurge on anything? It would be on really high-quality hiking apparel; a pair of waterproof boots, or a lightweight down jacket that folds down to nearly nothing. His favorite outfit is his tan cargo joggers, a long-sleeved moisture-wicking collared top in his signature forest green, and his favorite hiking boots, with the forest camo detailing on the heels and toe.

Bobby walks the border between practical and flashy. He has some days when he wants all eyes on him, but he also doesn't want to spend a lot on anything that he won't get a lot of use out of. He knows what he looks good in, and works with it. He has a lot of print shirts, skinny jeans, tracksuits, simple leather boots, and retro-style sneakers. His favorite outfit is a bright aloha shirt with a hibiscus design, partially unbuttoned over a white undershirt and snug black jeans, and canvas low-top sneakers.

Nana's wardrobe is of two minds. A big chunk of it is largely punk inspired; black leather and denim, band tees, cutouts and patches and studs and hand-lettered logos. She has a leather jacket that once belonged to the lead singer of a hardcore band over thirty years ago, and she treasures it. The other part of her wardrobe is dainty, pastel-colored sweet lolita coordinates. It doesn't get worn nearly as often as the former part of her wardrobe, but on special occasions and hangouts with her childhood friend, she likes to be adorable. Her favorite outfit is her leather jacket, a miniskirt made from a pair of old jeans and some canvas shopping bags, an artfully ripped tour shirt from a band that broke up before she was born, and knee-high lace up boots with thick soles.

Punch is somewhat self-conscious, and tends to bury himself in oversized clothes. Loose-fitting jeans or cargo pants, big cozy sweaters, funny graphic tees, and neutral-colored hoodies are his preferred favorites. He owns a few pairs of cross-training sneakers and track pants for working out, warm knit beanies for when his curls are too unruly, and several caps that help keep the sun off of his face. His favorite outfit is a too-big waffle-knit henley top in a soft cream color, relaxed fit jeans with extra-deep pockets, and his most comfortable sneakers.

Joker has two modes, like Nana, but not nearly as extreme. She wears a lot of gender-neutral outfits; unisex tees and sweatshirts with bright graphic designs, boyfriend-cut jeans, clunky retro-style sneakers. She has a massive collection of novelty socks, full of bright, wild patterns and colors. She also "borrows" a lot of her brother's fleeces and sweaters. When she wants to dress up, though, her tastes lean towards retro mid-century silhouettes. Halter-top or sweetheart-necked dresses with nipped-in waists and circle skirts in bright colors, sweet sweater sets with snug capris, bright scarves and chunky accessories. A lot of polka dots and bright red, coupled with matching mary janes or kitten heels. Her favorite outfit is an off-shoulder red gingham dress with a wide belt and built-in crinolines, broad matching sunhat, and shiny red patent mary janes with block heels.

What not so important things did we learn about:

Callen:  Unwilling to push popping the question with Arkady. Sam:  Paying for a spring break trip to Aspen. Kensi:  Was sent a Contaminated Cherries album by Mama Deeks and it was wonderful. Deeks:  Was in a college punk band called Contaminated Cherries.   Eric:  Bored. Nell:   Practicing delivering hard truths. Fatima:   Thinks Roundtree is full of himself. Roundtree:  Thinks he (and Fatima) are young, attractive and elite. Hetty:   Absent.

Who's down with OTP:  Kensi is sure Deeks is going to do well with his interview.   Nell lets a bored Eric help in Ops.

Who's down with BrOTP:  Sam is really good to Deeks before Deeks’s interview for his NCIS position.  Sam shares some family history with Roundtree and that goes badly for Sam.

Any pressing need for a cranky retired Admiral?   I would imagine his thoughts on Deeks’s hair may not help.

Who is running the team this week?  Sort of running itself though Nell is truly in charge.

Fashion review:  Callen is wearing a red, white and blue plaid button down shirt.  Sam starts the episode in medium grey running gear before changing into a dark red tee-shirt, black jacket and matching watch cap.  Kensi has on  black long-sleeve sweater with a black leather jacket.  Deeks is in a blue suit, a pale blue dress shirt and a blue tie with real dress shoes.  Nell is in a dark green dress with a floral pattern.  Eric has on a thick grey turtleneck with his black coat and pants.  Fatima has on a white turtleneck under an animal print sweater with gold trim.  Roundtree is keeping warm with a thick, off-white hoodie under a tan herringbone jacket.

Music:  No.

Any notable cut scene:  Finally! Not cut scenes but extended ones.   When Eric joins Fatima in Ops, he promises no more meltdowns.  She’s unclear – Eric or the computers.  He promises both.  Later, when Sam and Roundtree are giving David Lao some time to think, the conversation about the kidnappings includes forced repatriation.  China bought Bellamy’s list, saw Chan’s name and believes she’s still one of their citizens.

Quote:  Deeks:  “Agent Martinez, the world can be an ugly place. And you can trust me when I say that I have seen the absolute worst of it. And my greatest fear, the thing that scares me the most is not being able to fight to fix it. And I've thought a lot about this. I've thought a lot about NCIS over the last year, and I think it's true. I think sometimes you got to lose something to love it. But this is more than a job to me. This is more than an occupation. This is about purpose. 'Cause the world's always gonna have that dark side, but at least here, I get to get up every single day with a team that I love and respect and go out and do everything we can to shine some light in. So, if you need to write anything down, it's that I will do everything that I can to keep doing that.”

Anything else:  A woman is leaving her job at public library in Vista View.  She is learning Spanish for a Cancun vacation using an app on her phone.  As she walks to her car, she’s caught in a shoot-out.  She sees a security guard shot before the gunman hops in a van and drives off.  The woman calls 911.

Sam and Kam walk into the boatshed after a 10-mile long run.  Sam has an idea and Kam is a bit nervous about that.  The last time Sam had an idea, she was dropped into Budapest on Thanksgiving with nothing but a headlamp and a roll of tape.  Sam is so proud she’s been accepted to Annapolis.  His idea is for the two of them to go to Annapolis during spring break and do a few dry runs in the area.  Kam was more thinking more going to Aspen with her friends for spring break.  Sam wants Kam to prepare but Kam thinks June is a long way away – she has plenty of time to prepare.  She want to take things one step at a time.  Sam reluctantly agrees.

In a park, smoking a cigar and doing the same chair lifts David Kessler was doing, Arkady is talking to Callen on his cell phone.  They were supposed to meet but Arkady forgot about his standing Monday appointment.  Not really standing either – Arkady meets Zola, who he thinks Callen would like.  What Callen would like was to see Arkady.  Seems Callen spent the holidays looking for an engagement ring – he has the little velvet box and a nice ring inside.

With Callen insisting on an in-person conversation, Arkady is worried the Russians “finally took that jumpy Urkel who mumbles in your ear.”  Assuring Arkady that Eric is fine, Callen wants Arkady to weigh in on something.  Arkady has no real schedule for the day – he’s just going to keep moving.  Like a great white, if Arkady stops moving, he’ll die.  Callen wants to see Arkady at 3PM. Arkady thinks keeping a schedule will kill Callen.  Callen thinks the same of Arkady’s cigar smoking.

Also in a park are Kensi and Deeks.  She’s buying them some fruit juices for the morning.  He’s rattling off presidents or possible matching making options for Mindy, Mandy, Tiffany, Tiffany and Kat.  Kensi, who has been through FLETC, says knowledge of presidents is not needed for Deeks’s interview.  Kensi finished her interview in support of Deeks’s application.  Deeks is nervous but banters along with Kensi for a little while.

Eric is in the boat shed interrogation room with Agent Martinez, who is investigating Deeks’s background for NCIS.  Eric is wildly going on a tangent about being in a yurt.  Martinez would have been fine with a Zoom call.  Eric just keeps going.

Fatima and Roundtree are going through achieved NCIS files and floppy discs.  Nell needs them all properly logged in before things are consolidated.  Roundtree thinks this is busy work – he and Fatima and young, attractive and elite – they are in demand and Nell knows this.  Or, Fatima tells Roundtree, Nell needs more room for a big shredder bin.  Roundtree admits to watching a documentary about cult – it stuck with him.  Fatima’s tablet beeps – she has a case.  She wants Roundtree to check the floppy discs.  He’d be happy to if she’d tell him what a floppy disc is.  Fatima thinks Roundtree is kidding.  He’s not.

With one of her nice tea cups, Nell is imitating Hetty in Hetty’s office.  She has an audience of her work delivering hard truths – Fatima.  The dead security guard is a Navy reservist Joel Bellamy, a Personnelman working at the Medical Operations Training Center in San Diego.  The library security cameras were down so there is only one eyewitness.  Nell knows Personnelmen have access to sensitive files of both officers and enlisted reservists.  Bellamy may have been targeted.

Callen is interviewing the woman from the library.  She doesn’t remember a lot of particulars, just the license plate holder saying “don’t take it personal.”  Callen is grateful for her help.  She mentions a grilled cheese food truck that is usually parked behind the library – it got her through some tough times.  Callen asks about the truck, which parks at the library overnight.

Agent Martinez is honored to meet Sam, whose reputation precedes him.  The two make some small talk including Kam getting into Annapolis.  When the interview begins, Martinez wants to know about Sam’s first impression of Deeks.  “I hated him so much, I had to punch him in the face.  A few times.”  Sam asks to change hate to despise.  Martinez is shocked.

On his Segway One, Eric wheels into the office.  He’s there to check if the new version of Kaleidoscope is working – part of his white glove service.  Kensi asks him if he really is that bored – he is.  Eric found the Deeks interview exhausting – “took longer than all seven season of The Gilmore Girls.”  

Nell joins Kensi and Eric with news of Bellamy.  He had a gambling problem, debts, was evicted for not paying his rent.  Roundtree is looking to see where Bellamy was staying in recent weeks.  Nell’s tablet beeps with bad news.  Fatima found an encrypted file on Bellamy’s phone with the names of over 100 reservists.  Selling those names would more than take care of Bellamy’s debts.  Eric starts coming up with a plan to deal with the names when he remembers he no longer works at NCIS.  Nell suggests if Eric is bored, he could always help.

In the main room of the boat shed, a  nervous Deeks is trying to get the interrogation room feed on the monitor.  No luck.  Even less luck when Sam catches him.  Agent Martinez had the cameras shut down.  

Sam asks Deeks if he is OK.  Deeks isn’t – they have a plan when the work every day.  If the plan doesn’t work, there is a back-up plan.  That’s how they survive.  Right now, Deeks doesn’t have a back-up plan.  All his eggs are in this basket and that’s why he is nervous – “this has to work out for me.”  Sam tells Deeks he is going to tell him something and he’s going to tell him once, so listen carefully.  Deeks is excited to be joining Sam’s Club (which is funny for a guy so nervous).  “You’re good at what you do.  You have instincts.  You have the cuts to follow them.  If you keep following your gut, you won’t need a back-up plan.”  It is a lovely, heartfelt speech from Sam and Deeks is grateful.

Nell talks to Roundtree, who is back in the Armory with the files and floppies working through his 15-papercuts and a dust allergy.  Bellamy was living in an RV since his eviction.  The RV has been ticketed all over LA but was given a boot in a vacant lot in Burbank.   Nell wants Sam and Roundtree to check out the RV and see if there is anything that would explain why Bellamy had the encrypted file on his phone.

The grilled cheese food truck by the library had security cameras – he’s been robbed three times in three months.  Callen sends it to Fatima.  While the quality isn’t great, she cleans it up enough to show Callen footage of Bellamy handing  an envelope to someone.  That person pulls a gun.  Bellamy tries to knock it away and runs.  They both know how that chase ends.

Bellamy had access to everything about the reservists – their assignments, their families, their non-Navy jobs.  “The list goes on and on,” according to Fatima.  With some reservists working in research at universities, think tanks and government contracting firms.  They need to learn who has that information now.

Eric walks into Ops.  Fatima is happy to have Eric help out – “at least I think so.”  Eric still technically works for NCIS.  He also works for his own firm.  And the DoD.  And his non-profit, but that’s just charity work.  Fatima decides to catch Eric up on the case.  Fatima found an ad on the dark web where Bellamy offers “Chest of gold from Lady Liberty’s Flotilla.”  

In the lot with Bellamy’s RV, Roundtree shows up in the Range Rover.  He’s been warned by Nell if he breaks it again, he buys it.   Sam seems proud that Nell is keeping up Hetty’s tradition of watching NCIS’s money.  Roundtree was going through some old receipts.  If he knew NCIS was buying Tom Ford’s clothes, he would have joined sooner.

Iran, North Korea and Russia are constantly hacking the US databases for information about US service members.  Roundtree saw some of that when he was working with the FBI.   There was cases with millions of dollars stolen due to identity theft.  Sam thinks this is a lot worse than identity theft.

Arkady calls Callen to cancel their 3PM appointment.  Vladlena has a problem with her brother – her dead brother.  Abram’s ex-wife Nadya, who is even more dangerous , also is dead.  Nadya put a curse of Vladlena that her “bounty will not prosper.”  Vladlena’s bar is failing – Arkady is going to help the bar prosper but promises to see Callen later that night.  And if Callen needs a kidney, Arkady is happy to give Callen one – “no problem.”  Callen thinks there would be plenty of problems with the kidney.

There isn’t anything useful inside the RV’s and with the boot, it wasn’t going anywhere.  Roundtree asks if Sam ever rode in an RV.  The Hanna family vacations when Sam was a kid were in an RV.  Roundtree can’t see it.  Sam explains that it was a different time.  Roundtree isn’t talking about the RV, he’s talking about Sam as a kid.  Sam explained that the Hannas had family in Ohio and they’d take the RV.   His father believed that if “you want to serve this country, you need to appreciate every inch.”  Roundtree liked the idea – but Sam brings up eating can beans and watching an old VHS tape of “Taps” every night for two-weeks.  

Roundtree talks about the life lessons Sam must have learned on the road.  Sam did:  call your bed first.  Opening a secret box under the RV’s storage area, Sam adds “always keep your valuables hidden.”  In the secret storage area is a plastic bag with the military files of 20-or-so reservists.  Roundtree reminds Sam that the file on the phone had over 100 names.  The 20-files were all high ranking officers – people with the most value.  

Martinez is sick of the interrogation room and wants to talk to Deeks in the main part of the boat shed.  Deeks asks how does the interview work.  “I put two minutes on the clock and you write down the name of every president and how they died.”  Deeks is stunned until Martinez says she’s joking.  He did not see that coming.  Martinez explained that talking to the people around Deeks, she figured Deeks would appreciate some humor.  He tells her he’s lucky to have them.  Martinez suggests he should say that to his mother more often.  He asks what Bertie had to say but figures it is all up on her YouTube Channel by now.  

Martinez wants Deeks to relax.  She wants to hear about Deeks in his own words.  Deeks is Martin to his Mom, Atticus to nobody and Deeks to his friends.  As one of the more seasoned applicants, Martinez wants to know about life before NCIS.  Deeks talks about being a lawyer a lifetime ago.   Martinez asks about becoming a lawyer and Deeks talks about growing up and seeing a lot of things that were not right.  When Martinez notes that Deeks wanted to fix those wrong, he tells her there other questions on the bar exam.

Callen checks in with Kensi.  Fatima and Eric ran down all the names on the files from Bellamy’s RV except Lt. Commander Natalie Chan.  Chan is a Navy research psychologist, born in China and emigrated with her parents when she was five.  When she’s not working for the Navy, she has a private practice in Van Nuys.  Callen wonders if there is any connection between Bellamy and Chan.  Kensi thinks they may have run into each other at Camp Pendleton.  He could have also learned she was working with DARPA on defense research.  Sam and Roundtree are on their way to her home.

Pulling up to Chan’s home, Roundtree tells Sam to write a book about life in the RV.  Sam says that’s not going to happen.  Roundtree suggests a podcast which also isn’t happening.  Sam and Roundtree see two men leaving Chan’s house through the driveway.  Roundtree yells federal agents and miracle of miracles, no shooting.  Just running away.  

Roundtree’s guy climbs over a fence which Roundtree just jumps with ease.  When Roundtree’s runner throws a potted plant at Roundtree and misses, Roundtree does the same and doesn’t miss - “that was a bad idea.”  Sam’s guy also runs through a door which Sam just breaks down like the Kool-Aid man.  Sam’s runner tries to hit him with a rake.  When Sam gets the rake away from the man, he makes quick work of his runner.

Neither of the runners are talking.  The inside of Chan’s house has been ransacked even without a forced entry.  Sam’s runner had Chan’s housekeys in his pocket.  Worried that Chan was kidnapped, Sam has Chan’s laptop and hard drives – the runners dropped it when they took off.  Since it is unlikely Chan had any of her Navy research at home, Sam wants to find Chan and find her quickly.

Talking to Deeks’s former LAPD colleagues, he’s not the most popular officer around.  Martinez brings up Deeks’s IA file – dead partner, missing informant.  It is a complicated file where Deeks does not look good in any of it.  Deeks tells Martinez that isn’t a question.  Rephrasing, she tells Deeks his LAPD files does not make him a team player.  Does he have any regrets?

After speaking out against his partner, a significant part of LAPD that is rotten to the core retaliated against Deeks.  So Deeks has regrets though not about the punishment or the backlash. He’s sorry he didn’t speak out against his partner earlier, louder and more often.  Martinez seems satisfied but Deeks continues.  The world can be an ugly place, Deeks tells her, and he’s seen a lot of it.  His biggest fear is not being in the fight to fix things.  He’s thought a lot about NCIS and how he had to lose what he had to understand how import it was.  He doesn’t have a job at NCIS, he has a purpose.  The world is still a dark place but working with the NCIS team he both loves and respects, he can bring a little light to world.  Martinez wants a break.

Kensi meets with Dr. Mooring – nicknamed Rocket because you don’t want to mess with a guy name rocket and that’s what his degree is in.  Mooring and Chan are working on neurotechnology, where a person can think of say sending an emoji and actually sending it with their thoughts.  Mooring and Chan were using neurotechnology with soldiers struggling with PTSD.  Asked if anyone else was working on similar technology, Mooring tells Kensi lots of people are – foreign governments, private contracts, universities are racing to understand the technology but Mooring and Chan and considered the leaders in the area.  Explaining that Chan is at the center of DARPA’s work, Mooring calls her an immense talent and also his friend.  He wants Kensi to find her.

Eric comes into Ops with Fatima saying “Don’t take it personal, take it home.”  Eric is offended, calling Fatima a succinct, millennial mouse, until Fatima explains it is a slogan for a business, Fast Frank’s Used Cars.  It was also what the librarian saw on the getaway van.  There were six van sold by the dealership and Fatima is tracking them down.  

At the same time, Eric tracked down the e-mails to Bellamy’s dark web ad.  There were two college students in Germany who got cold feet followed by a rogue 10-year old on his mother’s computer.  Finally, there was a woman named Kelsey Miller who rented an apartment to a Jimmy Fang who entered the country with one of Sam and Roundtree’s runners – David Lao.  The two men are Chinese nationals who arrived in America just after Bellamy placed his ad.

Nell ask an arriving Callen for some news – she is being pressured by DARPA and the NMOTC (Navy Medical Operating Training Command).   China is interested in Chan’s research which Nell doesn’t think will be used for the mental health of that country’s soldiers.  The research could be brought to the battlefield in cyber warfare, intelligence gathering.  The use of unmanned systems could change everything.   Nell thinks it is like one of Eric’s preferred sci-fi movies.  If China gets the research, it won’t be fiction for very long.  David Lao may be the key to finding Chan.

Sam gets off the phone with the office and approaches Lao.  Lao explains that he doesn’t have to talk to Sam.  Sam agrees, Lao can call his lawyer.  Lao doesn’t need a lawyer, his country will come for him.  Sam laughs – Lao is just a cog in the machine.  He served his purpose and now they’re finished with him.  Lao’s next stop is life in an American prison.

Roundtree offers Lao an out but Lao’s allegiance is to his country.  Besides, it is too late.  Sam disagrees – if Lao gives up Chan’s location, he will be saving her life and his own.  Sam and Roundtree give Lao a minute.  As they step away from Lao, Roundtree talks about China kidnapping doctors, lawyers and professors.  Chan will be forced back to China where she will disappear and be forced to work for her kidnappers.

When Nell asks Eric where the case is, he makes a joke and realizes she’s in charge.  He apologizes, he’s not use to her in that position.  Nell admits neither is she.  Fatima found the van from the shooting – it is at Whiteman airport.  They are going to try to get Chan out of the country.  While a plane leaving Whiteman airport would be too limited to fly to China, it would be able to get to another plane that would fly to China.  Nell wants Fatima to get the FAA and TSA to stall all flights out of Whiteman.  Then she wants Eric to get the team to the airport.  When Eric says “yes, ma’am” Nell makes it clear “not ma’am, never ma’am.”  Eric admits it did feel weird from the get-go.

At the airport, Kensi sees an open hanger.  Callen and Sam are about to breach the building when Callen jokes about Sam writing a book – “Sam and the Art of RV Maintenance”.  Sam is going to destroy Roundtree, who swears he only told Eric.  Kensi tells all of them that telling Eric was a mistake but a good start to Sam’s podcast.

Kensi sees the van but no Chan.  There is an office in the hanger but no way to tell who is in the office or how many people there could be.  If they go in shooting, Chan could be killed by her kidnappers.  Sam wants to go in quickly, give them no time to react.  Callen knocks on a door but hides under the window.  When one of the kidnappers checks to see who knocked, Callen takes him out.  A second kidnapper is loading items into the van.  Sam loads the kidnapper into that van.  Hearing some noise, one of the kidnappers leaves the office, getting a roundhouse kick from Kensi that Chuck Norris would love.  Roundtree finds a frightened but alive Chan in the office.  

While Chan is being attended to by EMTs, Callen notes how brave she was.  Sam never had a doubt – Chan is US Navy.  None of the three kidnappers were Jimmy Fang, who is in the wind.  Sam decides he’s going to make Roundtree watch “Taps” on an old VHS as penance.

As the day ends, Deeks finishes his interview.  Martinez tells Deeks she can’t tell him how things are going to work out which Deeks understands.  She can tell him that not many people can take a bad first impression and wind up with the respect of one of the highest ranking members of the team.  That same person invested in seven different companies of a friend.  Deeks notes for the record it was eight.  Finally, Martinez notes it is exceedingly rare to find someone who is willing to speak against what is wrong no matter the consequences.  But it would be highly unethical for her to say how he did but “it was a pleasure meeting you, Deeks.”

Arkady arrives with vodka for Callen.  Looking at Callen’s apartment, Arkady admires the communist block chic look to the place.  Arkady hasn’t spoken to Anna lately because she’s so busy – “the world would be lost without her.”  Callen thinks he would be too.  Arkady thinks Callen has “become soft, old boy.”  Callen needs to talk about just how much Anna means to him but Arkady feels no such need – “you hurt her, I hire someone to kill you.”  

Asking if Anna is happy, Callen tells Arkady he’d like to think she is.  Then Arkady is fine – “you, me, Anna, we’re all the same.”  Callen disagrees.  Since the relationship works, things are fine according to Arkady but when the relationship doesn’t work, it will be over.  “No need to complicate things.”  Arkady doesn’t see Callen or Anna as the marrying kind.  Callen looks at the box holding the engagement ring while Arkady jokes about Callen calling him ‘papa’.  Besides, Arkady is there to talk about something serious – whatever Callen thought was so important.  Callen comes up with some business reason to talk to Arkady.  They share some vodka.

What head canon can be formed from here:  We got a little Hanna family history, which was nice.  Not so nice was Arkady’s dismissal of Callen’s interest in Anna.

The Deeks interview was fine – some good acting there.  Agent Martinez was exactly what you would want from an investigator.  Tough, fair and a good listener.

Lorien Legacies Characters + Styles of Dress

One- Surfer + Cute She always dresses like she’s about to go to the beach. She wears a lot of tank tops, shorts, sandals, flip-flops, wedges, Vans, ripped jeans, tie-dye t-shirts, flannel shirts, bikini tops, and cute tops and always accessories with sunglasses and a small crossbody bag. She also likes wearing silver jewelry and sun hats or baseball caps. Her outfits are always on-point and super cute. Her main colors are blue and white with tan and light orange accents. She also loves shorts with beach-type prints like waves and palm trees, thin jackets, and high-waisted shorts, and when it’s cold out she wears a jumper or knit sweater with a natural tone, and she’ll wear a button-up jean shirt from time-to-time. Her style is really laid-back and looks super nice even when she doesn’t really try as she doesn’t care too much about fashion but likes the style. Her favorite article of clothing is a white and blue gradient tank top she ‘borrowed’ from a store while with Wade. 

Maggie-  Autumn + Academia Her style is really cute and warm, she looks like the human personification of autumn. She likes wearing scarves, cardigans, knit sweaters, stockings, skinny jeans, parkas, short and ankle boots, and flannel, long-sleeved, and button-up shirts. She usually looks like she’s about to walk into a coffee shop to read. She always carries a brown bag to carry all her books and accessories with plain gold jewelry- especially rings and earrings- usually has some sort of overcoat on, likes wearing layers, and her outfits are always precise and perfect. She accessories perfectly and her main colors are brown, black, and maroon with dark orange and crimson accents. Sometimes she’ll wear an overall dress and floral patterns so long as it has that fall-color palette, and she’ll wear the autumn style no matter the season. She’ll wear the perfect fall outfit in the dead of July without hesitation. She also likes wearing hair accessories like hairclips, headbands, bandanas, hats (especially fedoras, she’s one of the few people who can actually look decent in them), bows, and clips and she usually styles her hair really nicely when she doesn’t just put it down. She also steals clothes from all of the guys- mostly Adam, John, and Nine- like she did with Conrad cause they’re so big and comfy, especially on her. Her favorite article of clothing is an oversized maroon sweater Conrad knit for her. 

Hannu- Trendy + Comfy He likes the classic, comfortable clothes most teenage boys wear. He wears a lot of sweatshirts and hoodies, brand-name shoes like Nikes and Adidas, sweats, jeans (most of which cuffed), zip-up sweaters, knee-shorts, khakis, and plain tees with the occasional turtleneck. Most- if not all- of his clothes are big and comfy and others love stealing them from him cause because of it. His main colors are brown and gray with black and white accents, and he owns most clothes everyone else own. He likes to keep it simple and straightforward and doesn’t care too much for fashion, but will experiment from time-to-time. He’ll occasionally wear a basic accessory like a woven bracelet, wristwatch, or chain necklace and a bolder color like yellow or blue every now and then but other than that he avoids anything too flashy or eye-catching. He also likes clothes fitting for long runs and playing basketball like tank tops, athletic shorts, and track pants. His favorite article of clothing is a black tank top with the Kenya flag on it he got while at the village. 

John- Prep + Plain He kind of dresses like a white suburban dad (and Nine loves making fun of him for it). He likes button-up, striped, and polo shirts, khakis, plain tees, zip-up sweaters, jeans, knee-shorts, sneakers, sandals, and the occasional sweatshirt or hoodie. He owns a million different belts and sometimes wears a watch but doesn’t really like to accessorize. The number one thing the others hate about his style is his tendency to wear socks with slip-ons (it’s an Ohio thing), and he does it just to piss them off. Overall, he has a very simple and plain style. He doesn’t care too much about fashion but does like looking presentable, so he and his clothes usually look pretty neat and clean but most of the time there’s that one thing that tips his outfit off like a color that doesn’t match with the rest or an accessory worn with the wrong outfit, but no one bothers to point it out cause they all know John will just shrug it off anyways. His main colors are white and blue with brown, orange, and dark blue accents. His favorite article of clothing is a pair of lightly ripped jeans that used to belong to Henri. 

Five- Emo + Grunge He’s the middle line between emo and grunge, really. He mostly wears skinny and/or ripped jeans, classic-rock band tees, Vans, Converse, leather or denim jackets, combat boots, faded clothes, parkas, distressed jeans, oversized shirts, black sneakers, and acid-washed jeans. He doesn’t really like accessories except a few pins and wristbands here and there, and when his hair has grown out too long and he doesn’t feel like combing it (which is most times) he wears a beanie to cover it. Overall he doesn’t really care about fashion (or his appearance at all) so he just throws on whatever he sees first and it may look bizarre at first but he somehow makes it work, even though he doesn’t really try. He also- to the others’ surprise- really likes floral-print, so he’ll be seen wearing a black and white floral-print t-shirt every now and then. His main colors are black and white with silver, dark gray, and dark green accents. His favorite article of clothing is a parka he got the first time he went to a non-tropical place during his run from the Mogs. 

Six- Androgynous/Tomboy + Punk She acts like a butch and dresses like one, too. She usually wears army-print jackets, ripped jeans, sweatshirts and hoodies, button-up shirts, jeans, sneakers, trucker hats, leather jackets, baggy tees, flannel shirts, combat boots, and denim or leather vests. She rarely accessories but the few times she does, she goes all out with studs, chains, wristbands, pins, fingerless leather gloves, black accessories, and studded belts, and sometimes she’ll wear eyeliner (with enough begging from Ella), and other times she’ll wear suspenders, women’s suits, or polo shirts. Her right ear is covered in piercings and she has a diamond nose stud on the left, and it may not seem like it, but she actually doesn’t care about style. She just throws on whatever she thinks will look somewhat decent and leave, but it usually looks really good, though sometimes she messes a few things up like mismatching the colors. When she’s feeling nostalgic or she misses Katarina more than usual, she’ll wear a bow in her hair like she used to, and her main colors are black and blue with white and brown accents. Her overall style is down-to-earth, simple, and tomboyish with some punk-rock highlights here and there, or she’ll go full punk and it looks pretty good on her. Her favorite article of clothing is a black leather jacket, which was the first thing she got after she escaped from the West Virginia Base.

Marina- Hipster + Simple Her style is simple, but pretty cute. Out of all the Garde besides Ella, she probably cares the most about fashion and often wears fedoras, flannel shirts, jean shorts, stockings, beanies, combat or ankle boots, denim jackets, baggy sweaters, graphic tees, and cardigans with the occasional leather jacket (usually one of Six’s). She loves tying flannel shirts around her waist or throwing it into any of her outfits, even if it doesn’t match. She usually accessories with a bunch of stacked rings, silver necklaces, and sometime a bracelet, mostly beaded ones, but rarely wears earrings. She also loves layering, it’s almost impossible for her to go out- even in the summer- without wearing something over her clothes. She likes looking nice so has a very neat and cute style but doesn’t go overboard. When it’s cold out, she’ll throw on a cute knit sweater or nice-fitting long-sleeved shirt and also likes wearing beanies (a lot). Her main colors are brown and cream with black and tawny accents and while she does care quite a bit about fashion and presentability, she’ll always choose comfort over fashion. If she had to choose between a cute cardigan that itched and a plain and baggy but comfy tee, she’ll choose the latter in a heartbeat, but she’ll choose flannel over everything, it’s basically her trademark style and she owns like a million flannel shirts in a hundred different colors. Her favorite article of clothing is a dark orange and black flannel shirt. 

Eight- Cozy + Eccentric His style will change every other day. One day he’ll be wearing basic, everyday clothes like hoodies, sweatshirts, jeans, sweats, baseball caps, sweaters, tank tops, baggy tees, and sneakers- the comfiest clothes almost everyone has just lying in their closet- and the next he’ll be wearing the weirdest array of bright, flashy colors and prints. He loves floral and animal-print shirts, silly graphic tees, skinny jeans, and bizarre accessories like fringe necklaces, friendship bracelets, woven bracelets and necklaces, and Silly Bandz (which are his trademark article of clothing). His right cartilage is pierced and he always has a small silver helix earring on, and he’ll wear the most offbeat and surreal colors together like a bright orange t-shirt with lime green skinny jeans and dark blue boots. They literally never look good but he doesn’t care (nor does he mind the staring from strangers) as he doesn’t care about fashion and just wears whatever he’s comfortable with, which just so happens to be the brightest, flashiest clothing and colors in existence. His main colors are basically every one with gold and silver accents. His favorite article of clothing is a bright yellow ‘Shut up, Karen’ t-shirt, a gift from Nine.

Nine- Athletic + Casual His style isn’t too bad when he actually wears clothes. He wears the basic workout clothes like track pants, zip-up sweaters, comfy t-shirts, workout shorts, athletic tops, gym shoes, and athletic tank tops that usually have a Chicago team logo on them (mostly the Bulls), but besides that he wears basic, everyday clothes as if he’s taking a quick trip to the grocery store like sweatshirts, large hoodies, plain tees, (ripped) jeans, sneakers, and knee shorts. Despite having the most money of all the Garde and living in a penthouse in Downtown Chicago, Nine doesn’t like flashy or expensive clothes and goes with the casual, daily clothes he’s seen the majority of people wear since he’s learned to adapt to and act like others around him while on the run from the Mogs. He also hates formal clothes like tuxedos cause they’re uncomfortable for him and he would never let Sandor make him wear one. His main colors are gray and blue with dark red and black accents and besides a basic watch and chain necklace here and there, he never accessories and usually throws on the first thing he sees when he wakes up. The others always steal his shirts and hoodies cause they’re so big, warm, and comfy. His favorite article of clothing is a gray sleeveless hoodie he had since he moved to Chicago. 

Ella- Retro + Feminine Her style is easily one of the cutest out of all of them. She loves feminine, retro, old-fashioned clothes like striped shirts, cute dresses, flowy skirts, 90s band tees, overalls, button-up shirts, suspenders, sweaters, cute tops, shorts, and colorful sweaters. She usually accessories with sunglasses, bows, scarves, belts, bandanas, earrings, and small rings and always looks like she came out of a 90s romance film. She cares the most about her clothes and fashion so usually looks the best-dressed out of all the Garde with an exception for her lazy days where she usually just throws on a sweater and leggings. Sometimes she’s the epitome of the ‘Soft Girl’ aesthetic- baggy sweaters, denim skirts, scrunchies, white shoes, and cute t-shirts. Her main colors are pink, pastel purple, and vivid red with jean blue and soft orange accents and her style really reflects on her young and bright personality. Her favorite article of clothing is a red, orange, yellow, and blue-striped t-shirt she got while out with Marina.

Sam- Nerdy + Vintage For someone who doesn’t really care about his looks, Sam’s outfits are pretty damn nice. He mixes ‘nerdy’ and ‘vintage’ styles so he usually wears button-up shirts, suspenders, collared shirts, flannel shirts, plain jeans, zip-up sweaters, striped shirts, sweaters, and sometimes a denim jacket. He basically looks like Peter Parker if he was from the 90s. His style pretty much reflects his personality- nerdy, cute, sophisticated, and smart- and he rarely accessories besides watches and friendship bracelets he made for him and John. He won’t be caught dead without a zip-up sweater on, too. He’s obsessed with the things and refuses to leave the house without one, and he occasionally wears ripped or cuffed jeans. Mostly he likes wearing a collared long-sleeved shirt under a sweater and also likes funny shirts with cheesy jokes and puns on them. He doesn’t really care too much about his appearance or fashion, but enough to make sure his outfit isn’t absolutely hideous before he goes out. He usually goes for the comfier clothes and will often steal John, Nine, and Hannu’s clothes. His main colors are light blue, gray, and brown with cream and dark orange accents. His favorite article of clothing is a slightly baggy, dark blue zip-up sweater that was Malcolm’s. 

Sarah- Fashionable + Girly She has the most feminine style, and it suits her well. She usually wears  dresses, skirts, halter tops, tank tops, high heels, sandals, silk jackets, ripped jeans, jean shorts, tube tops, denim jackets, and cute tops. She always accessories and does so perfectly with earrings, affirmation necklaces, bangle or charm bracelets, and plain rings, and every outfit is always on-point and perfect as she’s one of the only ones who actually cares about fashion, cares the most about her appearance, and always wants to look nice and presentable. She’ll occasionally wear comfier but still cute clothes like beanies or knit sweaters and always has a bag or purse with her to carry all her regular ‘human’ items, including her camera. She also usually wears light makeup like mascara, lip gloss, and a bit of blush and either has her hair down or nicely styled if she has the time. Her main colors are pink and white with light blue and gold accents and her overall style is very neat, cute, and feminine and shows what type of person she is. Her favorite article of clothing is a white off-shoulder top she likes to wear with a silk pink circle skirt when she’s feeling extra pretty.

Adam- Alternative + Dark He has that ‘dark but not emo’ style, on the border of e-boy. He typically wears black aviator, leather, or bomber jackets, long-sleeved shirts, band tees, ripped jeans, striped shirts, denim jackets, baggy tees, Vans, collared shirts, and dress pants. He likes wearing leather belts with chains but other than that usually skips accessorising besides the occasional earrings as he has quite a lot of ear piercings (and either a nose ring, snakebites, or eyebrow piercing). Sometimes he’ll even dress like a skater boy- Thrasher and/or baggy shirts, distressed jeans, checkered Vans, studded belts, flannel shirts, light studs, beanies, long socks, and graphic tees, and he loves black and white flannel shirts and pocket-grid pants and jackets. His main colors are black and white with dark blue and gray accents, and he adores pins. modern au red/milo dump while i try to get myself together to answer asks nd work on ATJ:

(tw for alcohol mentions near the end, also this is an EXTREMELY long post, its so long that even after i split it into categorized sections each section could be its own post)

CLOTHING

milo absolutely has no sense of fashion. i feel like this is basically canon - for the styles at the time, he dresses fairly basic, mostly focused on looking put together for his job (definitely dresses aimed more towards how he would like to be treated by his peers, despite his actual position - then again our best example outside of the expedition is when he's about to deliver what he considers the most important presentation of his life, so who knows, maybe he usually dresses like a slob). aside from that his main concern seems like practicality and comfort. his wardrobe is dominated by earth tones - beiges and greens set with white and greys. all of that taken into account, i can see him dressing like this in a more modern era:

basically- a lot of cardigans, usually collared shirts or comfortable turtlenecks (since he does still occupy a research position at the smithsonian, even if only in title), big ol' coats, khakis and chinos and slightly stiff dress pants complete with ironed creases. i can see him wearing similar clothes outside work, just more comfortable - jeans and knitted shirts, henleys, more turtlenecks, and comfy cardigans over short sleeved shirts. i dont really see him wearing a lot of prints, i think he'd veer more towards solid clothes in lighter colors, but maybe he has a few. hes definitely the kind of guy to think of wearing the single graphic tee he owns as "bold and wild".

im very married to the idea of him wearing converse though. i cant explain it. milo in converse keeps me going in this world

hes kind of broke so i think maybe he got the converse secondhand maybe? or a gift of some kind. aside from the converse i can see him wearing a lot of oxfords and maybe wingtips

i want to see him in a hawaiian shirt so bad. i am losing it at this thought. he buttons it all the way up to his neck like someones awkward dad. milo wears a hawaiian shirt to "let loose". he wears it with like, khakis. or knee length jorts AHHHHDJHDSGJHDSJGh

a tie??? does he wear his hawaiian shirt with a tie???? does he think it makes it look cooler?????????? i am sobbing

red is the COMPLETE opposite. in the canon 1914 setting, red is already very rebellious for an AFAB person of their era- theyre openly a suffragette, they frequently refuse to wear skirts even in public and dress in mens clothes even before they were openly nonbinary, despite not being accepted into the male-dominated research fields and colleges they continue to educate themself with or without help, they purposely aim for an "unfeminine" silhouette when they dress, refuse to wear corsets, etc. (spoiler alert- there's a clear reason they get on so well with audrey in ATJ)

theyre also easily mistaken by people that didnt know them prior to their transition for being just a very small/young cis man- even though they canonically have a very soft "traditionally feminine" face

so basically, in any era theyre set into, red is always gonna aim to be ahead of the curve- both in their personal beliefs and practices and in their fashion. theyre also very androgynous in their clothes, although they tend to aim a bit more masculine (thats partially due to the era though, and having been forced into skirts exclusively for their entire life- i think in a modern setting where its more acceptable for AFABs to dress and act in a less hyperfeminine way, theyd be more okay with a fluidity in their gender presentation).

all that taken into account, i can see them dressing like this:

lots of baggy clothes, especially baggy jackets and shirts. they like loose fitting high waisted pants like JNCO jeans, cargo pants, etc but they arent averse to pencil legs. they rarely ever wear skinny jeans or drainpipes though. messy hair is a lifestyle for them- their haircut is definitely home-done

you know how in BICSTLY they used to have really long hair before they cut it? in a modern au i can see them impulsively doing the cut at like 3am and waking milo up at his door cause they screwed it up and he ends up having to help fix it (even though hes literally no better at cutting hair than them. worse even)

definitely have an undercut bob- bob on top, shaven on the bottom layer. they might end up growing their hair into a mullet at some point if they get bored. probably dyes their hair all the time out of boredom and then regrets it later and has to use dye remover.

lots of ripped tights and fishnets, leggings with big loose crop tops, big hoodies, safety pin jewelry and homemade jewelry. maybe some sticknpokes.

all that said, they still know how to dress in a professional situation. since its a modern au theres really nothing holding them back from the education and career they canonically want but cant get in the 1910s, so i imagine they would work at the smithsonian as well, maybe their father helped them get the job? potentially in that case they might be his assistant- after all, he trusts their opinion on artifacts more than anyone else's.

at work you can still very much see the punk/skater/grunge/goth style but its more understated- turtlenecks, high waisted and looser dress pants, lots of black, slightly unbuttoned collared shirts with a loose overcoat and no tie

since i elaborated on milos shoe taste i may as well elaborate on red's: they definitely wear converse as well, probably newer than milo's since their father is fairly wealthy and they can afford it. they also have a doc martens collection. they have a pair of demonias but they never wear them and milo is really the only person to even know they own them, let alone see them in them. they really dont like to wear heels much, but they own a few just to play around with. they have a bad habit of wearing any laced shoes untied, but they never trip over the laces. they also use lace code- their most-worn Docs have purple laces on the right foot and yellow on the left. some of their Docs have (reclaimed) pink laces.

has an extensive pin collection including feminism pins, anti-racism pins, punk-related pins, skater-related pins, and pop culture pins (80s music, modern music, old movies, etc)

MUSIC TASTE

milo's into a lot of older music- stuff from the 50s is his favorite. really into jazz and ballroom style stuff. his favorite band is queen, i think- he likes the old-fashioned sound, the jazz-chamber-ballroom influences, the diversity of their lyrics, and the complexity between the guitar riffs, the basslines, and freddie's vocal runs as well as the vocal harmonies.

also very into rush. yes, he is a rush guy :pensive:.

also listens to a surprising amount of lo-fi? he really likes stuff that remixes older music with hip hop and lofi elements, like earl grey. nearly exclusively into instrumental stuff but also very into louie zong. he listens to it while he works a lot.

knows a lotttt of foreign artists, especially niche ones. fuckin LOVES casiopea

red's spotify is a goddamn mess. everything from 2000s emo, to classic 70s punk, to post-punk and new wave, to 90s pop, to rap. they cant be easily classified at all

their favorite bands are oingo boingo, prince, queen (they listen to a lot of their harder-rock music, but milo knows theyre into the ballads too. theyll never tell anyone else though), doja cat, lil nas, fall out boy, and billie eilish.

red recites the intro monologue to lets go crazy very seriously to make milo laugh, sometimes. they get very into it with their facial expressions. sometimes it devolves into a full air guitar/keyboard/drum and wild dancing session. milo does not know how to participate in this but he loves watching them have fun with it. sometimes they pull him off the couch to make him dance with them, though

they are a huge sucker for dark pop, vaporwave, retrowave, EDM, hip hop, emo, punk... etc etc. anything that combines any two or more of those genres in an original or interesting way gets their attention right away

there's a lot of sharing between the two of them- even though their music tastes are so different, they like a lot of the others taste, and theyre always up to listen to whatever their partner is playing.

red is a huge softie, and milo has found them more than once listening to or humming something he was playing for them the other day because it reminded them of him

speaking of which- in the 1914 canon, red can play piano. i think that carries over to a modern au, where they could play piano and by extension keyboard. i like to think they experiment with a lot of instruments but i doubt they ever really mastered any others. maybe theyre okay at drums or bass?

they learned to play and sing teo torriatte for milo, as a surprise. when they first performed it for them, they had everything set up for when he got home from work- the lights were dimmed, they had candles lit around the keyboard, they draped stuff in cloth to make it look pretty, they scattered flower petals around. when milo walked in and saw it all, he almost proposed then and there- the only thing that stopped him was that he would kick himself for the rest of his life if he did that without a ring.

HOBBIES/ACTIVITIES

milo is still an avid chess player in this, but i like to think hes in some kind of groupchat or text or discord server for it. he doesnt necessarily consider any of the others in the chat close friends, but he does know them all by name

he tries to get red into chess but they never really get it

he tells them all about the stuff that goes down in the games and they just. do not understand. but they love listening to him get excited about it anyway

red is a skater and a regular at the skate park by the smithsonian

most regulars there know them by name, they can spot a newbie a mile away

they have a sticker of a broken tv with a skull inside of it on the underside of their board, its become recognized as a symbol of them unofficially

since theyre so regular and have been going there a lot longer than most of the other skaters that frequent the place, a lot of what they say is kind of just accepted as the rules

they have a bad habit of lecturing new kids who show up without knee/elbow pads or helmets at the very least. all the other skaters enforce it too. kids dont end up showing up without protective gear very often after their first visit

they brought a first aid kid and left it there and everyone has kept it stocked pretty well without them having to have much input. its kind of just a communal first aid kit

they once drew the broken tv symbol on the inside of a half-pipe and everyone started calling it red's ramp after that

they also started calling the bowl at the center of the park the Soup Bowl and now thats just accepted as the name. some of the newer kids genuinely thought that it was called that by the park and were shocked when they found out it was just a random nickname red gave it one day

theyve brought milo a few times but hes extremely awkward on his feet and could never really get his balance on a skateboard, and quite frankly red is afraid of what might happen if he tried even a low ramp, so he usually just sits at the rim of the bowl while red skates around

everyone knew he was their boyfriend before they even met him. a few of the regulars called him by name right away. one of them was certain red had brought him before.

they just talk so fuckin much about him that its like they already know him

aside from skateboarding, red is pretty good on rollerskates/blades

they tried to take milo to a roller rink once but it was a disaster and they ended up going home, changing into pajamas, ordering chinese food, and marathoning movies till they fell asleep on the couch together. so not a total loss

theyre both very into movies. red is deep into horror and milo likes indie/art movies and just Cannot handle horror at all, but they both agree on old movies, from the 80s and 90s to like the 30s.

red has shown milo some of the classic horror movies and the niche old ones (from like the 40s) since theyre not difficult to stomach

every so often when red brings up wanting to see a horror movie milo is like "aw babe we can watch that tonight i promise it wont be bad" and he genuinely thinks he can handle it this time

red ends up holding him every time and talking him to sleep, but it thankfully never causes like a major panic attack or anything like that

they love going to museums together, of all kinds. they love art museums. they also go to aquariums and aviaries

sometimes they like to go to other history museums and criticise the veracity or accuracy of exhibits/translations, all in good fun of course. theyre never actually being mean about it

SIDENOTES/UNCATEGORIZED

they both used to work at starbucks, when they were younger and before they worked at the smithsonian. they worked at separate stores 2 blocks from each other.

milo cant stand soda or carbonated drinks, red can and will chug a java monster in order to survive a long workday if they must. milo is constantly concerned for their health and wellbeing

they r both lightweights when it comes to drinking. they can split a six pack and both be falling-over drunk by the end of the night.

given the changes in beauty standards people DEFINITELY think milo is more attractive than they would in 1914. cmon. hes a lil twinky nerd. you think people wont eat that up?

red meets audrey online cause they both yell at the same misogynistic asshole on twitter

they exchange discord names in the replies of the tweet and tell the guy not to interrupt them while theyre talking in his replies

i like to think red and milo are selected to go on an academic visit to atl/antis (to learn about the culture, with permission of the king), and audrey ends up as the mechanic on the ship during the visit and theyre like (spiderman pointing meme) at each other

red and audrey have so many inside jokes that they basically speak a different language. milo gets some of the terms from context and pop culture (they use "so very" in real life- as in "wow, that shirt is so very.") but he is hopeless to learn all of it

one of their inside jokes is any variation of "milo hot girl summer" and they REFUSE to explain it to him no matter how much he begs

milo wears that iconique tank top on the ship and they say it literally any time he bends over, picks anything up, reaches for anything, moves, BREATHES. he is bewildered and at this point concerned

(in truth, the joke came from red taking a really blurry picture of him in a short sleeve shirt where he looked pretty cute and captioned it "milo's having a hot girl summer rn" and they just could not stop repeating it once audrey met him IRL)

they have a minecraft world. i do like to believe that every so often vinny finds a way in- theyre never sure how- and griefs the shit out of them by blowing up EVERY. monument.

It's coming into winter where I live and I have a lot of band t-shirts. I want to wear them through winter sometimes so I was thinking of layering them on top of a plain black or white long sleeve tops. Do you think that gives off punk/grunge vibes? Or is it a totally 90s or emo look? Would wear with high waisted black jeans and docs with it. I just really don't want to look 90s hahaha

Short sleeve tees over long sleeve ones definitely remind me of 2000s punk.  I think the key is making sure that the rest of your outfit feels modern, which I think high waisted black jeans and docs would.  Try to go for outfits that look more like this:

I think key differences are tucking the top in, playing with the proportions of the outfit, and having a neutral color palette. Having the long sleeve layer be a turtleneck also helps to make it look more modern.
