Pulsefire Ezreal/runeterra Ekko

Gauntlet is malfunctioning and sending Ezreal careening through universes. It's nice to see Ekko again, even if he's not HIS Ekko

Ezreal has, more than once, managed to fling himself though multiple time lines. There's names for them, he knows. Psyops, arcade, star guardian, and on and on, universes beyond measurable amount. Sometimes he exists in them. Sometimes he doesn't.

Usually, though, he finds Ekko.

Ekko takes him to his rickety table and gets him a glass of filtered water in the slums of Zaun. He watches Ezreal with a raised eyebrow and fingers tapping the seconds against his arm.

"So," he says, so casually it's come right back round to being pointed. "You're not Ezreal."

"What? No, yeah, I AM Ezreal, thank you very much! The one and only prodigal explorer Ezreal!"

Ekko is nodding his head, doubt painted over his face.

"Uh huh. So who was it that left this place two days ago with a completely different gauntlet?"

Ezreal looks down at gauntlet. She's sleek and shiny, bright chrome and glowing blue. These days her voice is staticky and warped, but he still loves it every time she speaks to him. It's good to know there's someone watching out.

"Uh." says Ezreal. He looks at Ekko with wide, panicked eyes. "I...changed my gauntlet?" he ventures.

Ekko shakes his head fondly.

Ezreal doesn't have to convince Ekko of time travel and universe hopping. Ekko knows all about that, more than Ezreal does, probably. Even in this dump of a universe where magic has choked tech down to the bone and grown wild over everything it touches. Even Ekko. He powers his drive with remnants of magic and says its steadier than any other power source could be.

Ezreal doesn't understand it, but he doesn't need to understand it.

Gauntlet's static drenched voice echoes through his mind.

"Countdown to launch has begun, get ready Ezreal. Fifty. Forty nine."

Ezreal takes another look around the little home. It's all worn down wood and bright splashes of paint and fabric, mechanical parts strewn over the desk and tiny windowsill. There's a little hextech powered clock with a little robotic bird bobbing it's head to and fro.

"Ah, damn, looks like I'm going. It was good to see you, Ekko." Ezreal curls his bare fingers into his sleeve to stop himself from reaching out. It's only been an hour or so since he arrived, and all this hopping is really starting to get boring.

And what's even more boring is the look in Ekko's eyes. Curiosity, intrigue, and nothing more. He stands across the room from Ezreal, sits down next to him, and he never jolts if they touch. He never looks at Ezreal's mouth.

"Twenty five,"

Maybe he's impulsive. He's definitely impulsive. But then, Ekko has always been his little mystery, like if a city was a person. Ezreal specialises in the dead places, sure, but that's only because the living scream at you when you take their stuff.

"Fifteen."

Ezreal arcane shifts over to Ekko's side, uses his shoulder to steady himself.

"Really good." he says. Maybe it's wistful. Whatever. He's never going to see this Ekko again.

He kisses him on the cheek and the last thing he sees of this world is Ekko's bright eyes, his shocked expression.

Everything dissolves into the unreal brightness of the time slip, and here he goes again, the prodigal explorer, off on another adventure.

Maybe this time, he'll find a place to sleep for an hour or so.

It's a bit awkward talking about selfshipping other than kiawren cuz I've done like no build up for it so it's like here. If anyone cares LMAO but since I posted some non kiawren things just now might as well do it a little more lol

This is gonna be about Ekko arcane

I've found a way of selfshipping with him I'm pretty comfortable with. Not that I even post about him at all😭 Kiawren is still my constant, but for the sake of lore which is fun to ideate for anyway

Since it's established there's maaany alternate universes not just within arcane but the lol verse btw I know NOTHING about league of legends I dont intend to know much more I'm just winging it

Ok ekko and powder are canon in one universe, from the lens of viewing tropes in shows it's nice to imagine them together in all others, as in, that one canon verse is representative of their other verses that theyre fated to be together. So in the original verse they're originally enemies but it's like a 'rule' they're supposed to be together so they get together eventually.

But what if it's not the case of fate but choice? Ekko said he gave up on her in the original verse, he told vi powder is gone there's only jinx. I agree with fanon they get together by the end of s2 but not cuz it's ship logic that they're meant to be, but I think it was a deliberate choice to talk. First and foremost to reach out and talk and spark the love again. It was his choice to reach out to her again just like it was his choice to distance himself from her and convince himself there was no saving her.

What I'm saying is ekko is jinx's/powder's lover not because he's just Meant to be in every universe but becuz he made choices whether or not to love her.

These choices are individual to him in individual universes. With countless universes, there's probbaly some where he did not visit the au and saw realised jinx's potential in powder. In these versions of himself, he stayed in the mindset where he gave up on jinx (Not to mean he completely doesn't care for her anymore, he evidently does but they don't eventually reconnect, and stay on opposite ends)

It is these versions that I think he has the Choice and potential to love other people. Doesn't have to be my s/i but he has that freedom to. His character shouldn't be tied to jinx, it's his choice whether or not he made the steps to love her or not. And in some circumstances in some verses maybe he didn't make the realisations to. Which is just a neutral thing in itself, not a bad thing, it's just his choice you know

Awkwardly pivoting to my s/i here but in the og verse, it is this period of time in s1 where he gave up on jinx, that they get together and likely eventually break off, Or in some alternate verse where ekko and jinx do not get together and he and s/i are a thing throughout

I feel like this doesn't bend the rules that Timebomb Are Always A Thing, but gives ekko the autonomy and choices to love who he does. Which is also cool for timebomb becuz it means he loves jinx out of his own choice and will to help her, not just cuz it was written that they are inevitably a thing.

But I'm not ignoring the versions of him that undoubtedly love jinx, I feel like it's an indispensable part of his character, but crucially not his Entire character!! that he would put in the work to help and love her. Cuz he's has the heart to which is what I love about him.

Okay now to the wider lol verse.... Ekko and Ezreal.... I was like ok... Let's see what their deal is... And turns out they're basically canon? (in one verse– pulsefire) The writer mentioned them when talking about the difficulty of establishing queer characters in media (source)

But I liked the Ekko from the arcane show, I'm pretty sure his lol character has some differences.

Riot said the arcane verse is canon within the lol verse, so that means in general, it isn't even a Rule that ekko and jinx always end up together. I mean as nice as it is that theres many versions of them together. Like it's actually pretty cute haha.

But ultimatelyyyy Ekko always has a choice for who he wants to love and be together with

headcanons ✨ all verses

i based it all on the universes they officially share together. so, let's dig in.

original  lore: her  voice  lines  state  she  doesn't  know  ezreal  and  they  haven't  even  talked,  like she sees him  for  the  first  time,  but  also  somehow  sylas  knows  and  slightly  despises  jarro  lightfeather,  which  is  ezreal's  demacian  fake  identity.  sylas  was  imprisoned  before  ezreal  could  visit  demacia  with  a  fake  name,  right?  means  luxanna  knows  jarro  and  talked  about  him  to  sylas.  considering  sharing  something  like  this  with  her  love  interest,  luxanna  and  ezreal  have  to  have  some  sort  of  connection  —  something  more  than  meeting  once  or  twice.  sylas'  voice  line  about  ez  sounds  also  like  he's  about  to  murder  the  blonde...  so  we  can  all  assume  there  was  something  more,  perhaps  even  romance,  between  miss  crownguard  and  sir  lightfeather.  further  evidence  to  that  can  be  found  in  base  ezreal  quotes,  in  which  he  suggests  hanging  out,  knows  lux's  name  and  calls  her  honey  (then  wonders  if  it's  too  soon).  he  seems  nervous,  but  the  last  line  makes  me  think  their  relationship  had  a  bit  of  a  romantic  undertone.

battle  academia: this  one's  pretty  obvious  —  ez  and  luxanna  are  close.  it's  obvious  ezreal  has  some  feelings  for  luxanna,  it's  unclear  if  they're  reciprocated  (i  like  to  believe  they  are),  but  they  went  on  at  least  one  date  (or  were  about  to  go!).  he's  a  golden  retriever  boyfriend,  totally.  texts  with  her  a  lot  and  his  mood  is  really  depending  on  hers;  supports  her  and  admires  her  (as  he  should!)  and  even  accidentally  confesses.  in  the  splash  arts,  he  always  waits  for  her,  too  (base  and  prestige).  which  is.  so  sweet.

star  guardian: both  in  the  short  stories,  illustrations  and  voice  lines  it's  clear  ezreal  has  feelings  for  lux,  yet  again  it's  unclear  if  she  has  any  felings  for  him.  i  like  to  believe  she  does.  no  evidence  to  this.  it's  just  me  fangirling  over  ez  complimenting  her  hair  and  uniform  and  saying  “your  eyes  really  do  twinkle  like  starlight”.  i  am  eating  this  shit  up!!!

porcelain: you  didn't  expect  this  did  you!!!  again  it  seems  ezreal  has  feelings  for  lux  and  it's  unclear  if  they're  reciprocated  —  we  know  for  sure  luxanna  seems  annoyed  with  ezreal's  lack  of  skills  when  it  comes  to  using  the  porcelain  gauntlet.  it's  unclear  if  she  saves  him  because  of  her  duties,  but  it  ez  seems  attached  to  her  (because  according  to  these  voice  lines,  she  saved  his  life,  but  also  the  one  about  promising  to  fix  her?  they're  totally  close!!  either  it's  forced  proximity  —  very  likely  —  or  something  else).  skins  description  doesn't  get  much  into  detail,  all  we  know  is  that  she's  taken  care  of  “the  archeologist”  and  let  him  join  the  protectors.  she  probably  had  to  train  him.  but  also  look  at  her  expression  when  ez  puts  the  gauntlet  on???  i  can't   ksdjhafdsfardsf.

in  conclusion: i  like  to  think  of  them  as  if  they're  close  and  i'm  open  to  explore  their  dynamic,  be  it  platonic  or  romantic!!  i  think  they  make  a  great  duo,  their  personalities  compliment  each  other  and  just.  i  don't  know.  ezreal  is  in  love  with  her  by  default  in  almost  every  universe  too  (except  for  pulsefire,  that's  for  sure),  which  is...  idk.  just.  riot  pushes  it  a  lot.

headcanons  ☽  modern  verse

i  was  inspired  by  @deadn30n's  heartsteel  yone  headcanons  and  i  hope  they  don't  mind,  but.  you  all  know  i  keep  lux's  modern  verse  heavily  magical  (she's  still  a  star  guardian),  or  that  i'm  fleshing  out  riven's  modern  verse  to  be  connected  to  pulsefire  timeline.  but  alune?

she's  a  witchy  girlie.  always  has  been.  her  favorite  gemstone?  moonstone,  you  guessed  it.  she  cleanses  the  magical rocks,  meditates,  reads  tarot  cards,  all  that.  but!!!!  she  has  visions  from  time  to  time.  everybody  knows  about  them,  she  doesn't  hide  it  at  all.  it's  like...  she  has  a  feeling  something's  going  to  happen  and  so  she  forbids  her  closest  ones  from  doing  things,  or  urges  them  to  do  stuff,  depends  on  what  she  senses.

it's  a  parallel  to  her  canon  equivalent  in  which  she's  a  seer.  here  though?  just  a  modern  witch  gal  with  a  very  unique  and  eerie  intuition.

Caitlyn Verses

Main Her Main verse as mentioned in her bio.

Arcane Follows the events of Arcane (season 1). She is a bit younger in this verse.

Modern Caitlyn is a criminal investigator who solves cases in Piltover. She is focused on solving mysteries rather than enforcing “justice”.

High Noon As the sheriff of the town, Caitlyn is bound to keep her people safe from the threatening horrors passing through.

A dashing adventurer, unknowingly gifted in the magical arts, Ezreal raids long-lost catacombs, tangles with ancient curses, and overcomes seemingly impossible odds with ease. His courage and bravado knowing no bounds, he prefers to improvise his way out of any situation, relying partially on his wits, but mostly on his mystical Shuriman gauntlet, which he uses to unleash devastating arcane blasts. One thing is for sure—whenever Ezreal is around, trouble isn't too far behind. Or ahead. Probably everywhere.

With a boundless curiosity about the universe, Ezreal is a born explorer, and becoming a Star Guardian only served to fuel his appetite for discovery. Though known to wander off, he always returns when most needed, especially now, as a certain pink-haired Guardian from another team has caught his attention…

The First Star has burdened Ezreal with a lot. The responsibility. The hefty weight of destiny. The sparkly outfit (he's used to it). “Attending a slumber party” was definitely not on the list of expected cosmic duties. Not that he minds, really… as long as they don't actually try to braid his hair.

➥           Battle Academia verse

A young orphan initially thought devoid of any superhuman abilities, Ezreal had resigned himself to a normal life once he graduated middle school. But an encounter with a deadly threat awakened his slumbering potential, and now he finds himself a 1st year at the prestigious Durandal God-Weapon Academy, where he's joined the ragtag Battle Club.

Temporal fugitive and time-hopping explorer extraordinaire, Ezreal leaps across disparate realities searching for interesting technology to acquire. He is responsible for countless paradoxes and is currently wanted by the dystopian Remembrancers, who hunt him relentlessly.

A skilled gamer transported to Arcade World by Veigar, Ezreal holds the world record for speedrunning the original version of Hyper Crystal Dungeon in 45 seconds, using a custom-made mobile controller. Veigar has made a terrible mistake.

➥          Vastaya verse (my fan AU where Ez is vastayan)

W.I.P

Born and raised in Ionia Ezreal comes from an ancient vastayan tribe mostly unknown to the rest if the world. His appearance is humanoid but with very notable corvid features the likes of black wings, digitigrade legs with sharp talons and a feathered tail. His adventurous spirit could not keep him bound to his birthplace so he became an explorer looking to travel all across runeterra and collecting special artifacts as souvenirs from his journey.

Vastaya are magical creatures, some more blessed than others. So ezreal is considered a mage. 

His hair is naturally black but on his journey’s he likes to dye it blonde, the black roots showing through after a while.  

Lowkey kleptomaniac. Shiny things catch the eye and cannot be left behind. 

He likes to collect all sorts of artifacts and take them home to his hideout in Ionia ( a big ass treehouse structure that could be seen as a museum of things collected from all around the map. )

He has to be careful on his travels because in most regions they are not accustomed to his species. There are always people willing to hunt what they deem out of the ordinairy.

Just like in canon he has aquired Ne’Zuk’s gauntlet on his travels and is able to use it with his mage abilities. 

I play modern verse too but dont have a specific layout for it as of yet.

Their cultural manners and aesthetics are similar to Ionia.” P.E.A.R.L.’s digital voice explained, flashing data across his range of vision on a made-up screen in the air. He blinked twice, confused yet curious.

　　❝ --Sounds cool anyways. Hey, can you show me a little about your, eh...❞ Universe? World? Town? ❝ ...Town, yes. I’m a little traveler and I hoped to learn about this place.❞  He hoped the armored gauntlet and futuristic outfits didn’t stand out too much. It probably did.

i am not immune to the "character's eyes glow when they use their powers" trope

There are some champions whose lines get really repetitive and Caitlyn is sadly one of those. She had a phase where ‘boom, headshot’ triggered every other headshot and the Pulsefire skin is full of science fiction movie references and memorable likes like ‘Boom, brainhole.’

I’d have much liked it better if it was just ‘headshot’ and ‘boom, nonexistence.’ ‘Cranium blast’ is okay. I think I would have liked it more if she had different intonations saying ‘headshot.’

This is only partially related to a small headcanon I had in mind, which is that Pulsefire Caitlyn isn’t anywhere as talkative as a 2017 legendary skin is. At first I was unsure what to make of her temperament because I didn’t know if a matching Pulsefire Vi skin would come soon, but now I can think of something with PROJECT Vi announced.

Vi was one of those to volunteer for the PROJECT initiative in the early stages of development. In the future, Piltover had become more accepting of cybernetic enhancement - modern-day Vi wouldn’t have considered it, I think. Perhaps she experienced irreparable physical injury that could only be fixed by PROJECT. Either way, she began to lose traces of her humanity just like the rest of them and Caitlyn is forced to abandon her and relocate when the PROJECT conflict transitions into full-scale warfare.

Caitlyn doesn’t take the loss easy, so even when granted powers by the Remembrancers to manipulate time, she’s forlorn and resentful of PROJECT. She hates the initiative for what it has become, but some of her allies, like Vi and Ashe, are still lost in the system and she realizes she has to help save those she can rather than give in to her anger and look to destroy it.
