Night Watchmen
Psalm 134. Behold, bless ye the LORD, all ye servants of the LORD, which by night stand in the house of the LORD. Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the LORD. The LORD that made heaven and earth bless thee out of Zion. I didn’t grow up in a church in which lifting one’s hands in prayer or praise was practiced. It is indisputable in God’s Word that He not only allows it, but…

Daily Prayer for March 13, 2024: Psalm 134
Prayer: Our Father, as we come to you today, we come as those in desperate need of your grace and kindness. We are creatures of dust, and we stray easily from those things you tell us. We easily forget your promises and the many mercies you have demonstrated day after day. Your faithfulness is new every morning. Yet, we know that we easily forget how much you love us and how you demonstrated that…

Standing By Night In The House Of The Lord -- Bill Boyd
Psalm 134 pays tribute to those who stand by night in the house of the Lord. It is a short psalm; only Psalm 117 is of shorter length. It is the last of the fifteen “Psalms or Songs of Degrees.” As this series come to a close, this psalm carries us in spirit to the sanctuary of the temple in Jerusalem. It has been suggested that the elusive inscription, “A Song of Degrees,” may have been given…

Psalm 134:2 Bless The Lord
Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the Lord. Psalm 134:2 Going to a concert or some sports game, people are quick to raise their hands and shout for joy supporting the performers. No one feels any shame in raising their hands or in the shouting in these events. It is actually expected for people to do these things to the point that those who don’t do it will stand out as different…

by Christina Fox | On a recent trip to Israel, I had the privilege of walking where Jesus walked. Our group also explored sites and locations of important places and events in the Old Testament. After spending a couple of days in the Jordan River Valley, we headed west toward Jerusalem. We read through the Psalms of Ascents (Ps. 120-134) as we followed the path Israelite pilgrims took on their yearly visit to the temple. On the way, we stopped at the Valley of the Shadow of Death…

Don't Worry!
Psalm 139:23-24. Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Glenn Payne and George Younce are in heaven now, rejoicing with the Lord and joining in the heavenly choir. This psalm is a favorite of mine. I love the verses that tell about how we are fearfully and wonderfully made; how God knew us…

What Is A Yodh?
י Yodh
Your hands made me and formed me;     give me understanding to learn your commands. May those who fear you rejoice when they see me,     for I have put my hope in your word.
I know, Lord, that your laws are righteous,     and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me. May your unfailing love be my comfort,     according to your promise to your servant. Let your compassion come to me that I may live,     for your law is my delight.  May the arrogant be put to shame for wronging me without cause;     but I will meditate on your precepts. May those who fear you turn to me,     those who understand your statutes.  May I wholeheartedly follow your decrees,     that I may not be put to shame.
Psalm 119: 73-80
Did you notice the little comma like thing in front of the word YODH? First what does Yodh mean and what is that little comma?
Let's start with the Yodh.
Yodh (also written as Yod) is the tenth letter in the Hebrew alphabet and sound like y as in yellow or yesterday. If we were reading this in Hebrew, we would most likely notice that every line from 73-80 starts with this letter. Yodh is the first letter in God's name, Yahweh; in the name Yeshua (Jesus).; and in the name of God's chosen people — Yisrael (Israel). Every letter in the Hebrew language has this Yodh symbol in it, making it the basis of the entire language. Because it is in every Hebrew letter, the Yodh is though to represent God's omnipresence. In other words God is every where. The little comma like mark is a jot. Because it is so small, Rabbis teach that this represents how God uses the small and weak to accomplish His purpose. A tittle is even smaller. It is a very minute point or stroke added to some letters of the Hebrew alphabet to distinguish them from other similar letters.
In Matthew 5:18 Jesus makes this statement- until heaven and earth pass, not one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
This little jot character is what Jesus was referring to. Now you can understand why the scribes where so careful and meticulous when copying the scrolls. They had to lean in close to make sure they did not miss this little mark. If they made a mistake, the scroll would be scrapped and they would have to start all over.
This little mark reminds us that God cares about the smallest details. There is nothing in our lives that is too trivial for him.
Remember the verse spoken by Jesus ..Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. Matthew 10:29
It also reminds us that it is the hidden and insignificant that God sees and uses. Micah 5:2 tells us that God chose the seemingly insignificant town of Bethlehem to be the birthplace of the Messiah. Paul reinforces this idea in 1 Corinthians.
"God chose the things that are considered insignificant to bring shame to those who consider themselves important. God's purpose was to eliminate the place for prideful boasting in His presence". 1 Corinthians 1:28-31
Another definition of Yodh is a hand or arm.  It's form suggests a hand reaching toward heaven in prayer. There are many verses which speaks about lifting your hands when praying and worshipping
"Lift up your hands to the holy place and bless the Lord!" Psalm 134:2
"O Lord, I call upon you; hasten to me! Give ear to my voice when I call to you! Let my prayer be counted as incense before you, and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice!" Psalm 141: 1,2
"I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling" 1 Timothy 2:8
Even Solomon lifted his hands in prayer and worship.
"Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the assembly of Israel and spread out his hands. Solomon had made a bronze platform five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high, and had set it in the court, and he stood on it. Then he knelt on his knees in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands toward heaven" 2 Chronicles 6: 12-13

Forefeast of the Transfiguration of the Lord
Tumblr media
Troparion: Thou wast transfigured on the mountain, O Christ God, /revealing thy  glory to thy disciples as far as they could bear it. / Let thin everlasting Light also shine upon us sinners, / through the prayers of the Theotokos. / O Giver of Light, glory to Thee!
Kontakion: On the Mountain You were Transfigured, O Christ God, / and Your disciples beheld Your glory as far as they could see it; / so that when they would behold You crucified, / they would understand that Your suffering was voluntary, / and would proclaim to the world, / that You are truly the Radiance of the Father
THE MARTYR EUSIGNIUS FROM ANTIOCH (362).
Tumblr media
The Martyr Eusignius was born at Antioch in the mid-third century. For sixty years he served in the Roman armies of the emperors Diocletian, Maximian Hercules, Constantius Chlorus, Constantine the Great and his sons. Saint Eusignius was a companion of Saint Basiliscus (March 3 and May 22), and he provided an account of his martyrdom. At the beginning of the reign of Saint Constantine the Great, Saint Eusignius was a witness to the appearance of the Cross in the sky, a prediction of victory.
Saint Eusignius retired in his old age from military service and returned to his own country. There he spent his time in prayer, fasting, and attending the church of God. So he lived until the reign of Julian the Apostate (361-363), who yearned for a return to paganism. Through the denunciation of one of the Antiochian citizens, Saint Eusignius stood trial as a Christian before the emperor Julian in the year 362. He fearlessly accused the emperor of apostasy from Christ, and reproached him with the example of his relative, Constantine the Great, and he described in detail how he himself had been an eyewitness to the appearance of the sign of the Cross in the sky. Julian did not spare the aged Saint Eusignius, then 110 years old, but ordered him beheaded.
MARTYR PONTIUS OF CIMIEZ IN FRANCE (257)
Tumblr media
The Martyr Pontius lived during the third century, the son of the pagan Roman senator Marcus and his wife Julia. While with child, Julia had gone with her husband to the temple of Jupiter. The devil, inhabiting the temple, shouted through the lips of the pagan priest that the boy in Julia’s womb would destroy Jupiter and his pagan temple. When the boy was born, his mother wanted to kill him out of fear of the prediction, but his father opposed this and the child was left to live. He was named Pontius, and he grew up sharp of mind and eager for study.
On his way to the pagan school Pontius happened to go past a house, where Christians were attending the morning services. Hearing the words of the Psalm which the Christians were singing: “the idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the works of men’s hands” (Ps. 114/115: 4 and Ps. 134 /135: 15 ). Pontius became very interested in this verse and he paused at the gate.
Saint Pontian, who was celebrating the service, invited Pontius and his companion Valerian to come in. After the service, the bishop talked for a long while with the youths, revealing to them the Gospel teachings, and after a certain while he baptized them. Saint Pontius, in turn, converted his father to Christ, whom Saint Pontian also baptized, together with his whole household.
After the death of his father, Saint Pontius, then 20 years old, was appointed by the emperor Alexander Severus (222-235) as a senator, to take the place of his deceased father. In the Senate and the surroundings of the emperor, Saint Pontius enjoyed universal esteem for his good nature, sound sense and fairness. Under the successor to the emperor Alexander Severus, Maximian (235-238), Saint Pontian finished his life as a martyr.

1 CORINTHIANS 1:10-18
10 Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 11 For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloe's household, that there are contentions among you. 12 Now I say this, that each of you says, "I am of Paul," or "I am of Apollos," or "I am of Cephas," or "I am of Christ." 13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 lest anyone should say that I had baptized in my own name. 16 Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas. Besides, I do not know whether I baptized any other. 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect. 18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
MATTHEW 14:14-22
14 And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick. 15 When it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, "This is a deserted place, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages and buy themselves food." 16 But Jesus said to them, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat." 17 And they said to Him, "We have here only five loaves and two fish." 18 He said, "Bring them here to Me." 19 Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes. 20 So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained. 21 Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children. 22 Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away.

Psalms chapter 119
Pe
129 PE. Thy testimonies are wonderful: therefore doth my soul keep them.
130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
131 I opened my mouth, and panted: for I longed for thy commandments.
132 Look thou upon me, and be merciful unto me, as thou usest to do unto those that love thy name.
133 Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.
134 Deliver me from the oppression of man: so will I keep thy precepts.
135 Make thy face to shine upon thy servant; and teach me thy statutes.
136 Rivers of waters run down mine eyes, because they keep not thy law.
