Two-lined spittlebug (Prosapia bicincta)
The two-lined spittlebug is a species of insect in the family Cercopidae. It is found in North America. Adults are black with two lines crossing the wings, ranging from red to orange in colour. They reach a length of 8–10 mm. Nymphs feed on various grasses (including centipedegrass, bermudagrass and corn) from within foam (consisting of their own spittle) produced from juices of their host plant. Adults feed on hollies on the underside of the leaves.

A cute little two-lined spittlebug browsing the vegetable section at Lowe’s.  Wonder what he decided on at the end of the day?

This is the 189th installment of 'Since I've Been Gone'. Taken on the same night as the last post during my time with @americanconservationexperience, spittlebugs can be so nice to look at among froghoppers. The two-lined spittlebug (Prosapia bicincta) is no exception. While they are considered agricultural pests, that doesn't necessarily mean they are terrible creatures. #animal #animals #wildlife #insect #insects #nature #texaswildlife #txwildlife #texasinsects #texasbugs #bugs #fauna #arthropod #arthropods #invertebrate #invertebrates #texasnature #truebug #spittlebug #spittlebugs #imago #insectagram #animalia #arthropoda #insecta #hemiptera #cercopidae #prosapia #prosapiabicincta #twolinedspittlebug (at Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge) https://www.instagram.com/p/CX2CqNsrvcN/?utm_medium=tumblr

The two-lined spittlebug (Prosapia bicincta) is a species of insect in the family Cercopidae. Adults are black with two red or orange lines crossing the wings. It reaches a length of 8–10 mm. It is widespread in the eastern half of the United States. A similar but possibly distinct species can be found throughout Central America where it is considered an agricultural pest. I always thought these two kinds of bugs were stink bugs for some reason, but it turns out that the bug on the top is a spittlebug (family: Cercopidae; species: Prosapia bicincta) and the bug on the bottom is a leaf-footed bug (family: Coreidea; species: Acanthocephala terminalis). Coreids actually do have scent glands that can “stink,” but it isn’t the same as that of a stinkbug.
Actual stink bugs can be identified by their broad, oval, often shield-shaped bodies and large, triangular scutellum (if you look closely you can see it about in the middle of it’s back.)

Good morning👋. More than often the smallest creatures are the ones that amaze me. Walking on a dirt road something caught my attention. Perched on a blade of grass was this Two-Lined Spitlebug (Prosapia bicincta). Tiny little thing, about 3/4cm long. As I got close to it, I started to notice its markings😍. It is easy to miss the small gems of nature unless we take the time to look. About this photo, I was lucky that this little fellow did not fly away as I invaded its buggy space with my lens😕. Nikon D5200, Nikkor 105mm (same FL), f/8, 1/250s, ISO 100. I hope you enjoyed this bug as much as I did❤. Comments are welcomed below🙏. Please come back tomorrow to check my Instagram @axelsalc for a new photo. Have a great Wednesday. Best regards👍 https://www.instagram.com/p/BrAUTN9AGro/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=s5lsun6x91fo
