A drawback to small mountain towns is the inevitable couple of times a year when a shortage or supply issue causes empty shelves at the one and only grocery store and the manager scrambles to get some alternatives in stock for basic staples, resulting in weird packaging and unusual options on limited items.  For the last month it’s been single eggs (as in ONE EGG, singular) in a clear deli cup with a lid.  Prior to that it was reusable plastic jugs stacked beside the drinking fountain to be filled by the customer.  This week it’s milk in a small rectangular waxboard carton exactly the size and shape of the soup/stew/stock broth cartons.
We’re getting used to it.
Sort of.
I just poured chicken broth in my coffee.

Well, the good news is the propane tanks are in.
The bad news is the poor delivery guy has his truck stuck in the driveway and is trying to dig it out even though the driveway is cleared and the chains are on.

How to Dispose of Propane Tanks
Propane tanks are frequently employed for a variety of uses, including appliance powering, heating, and cooking. You could eventually need to get rid of an old or empty propane tank in Philadelphia, though. Safeguarding the environment and ensuring safety depend on proper disposal. Here are six ways to safely dispose of a propane tank in Philadelphia if you find yourself in this predicament.
1. Consult your propane provider:
If you purchased the propane tank from a nearby propane provider, get in touch with them to get advice on disposal choices. Propane delivery company in pa frequently have special policies in place for tank disposal. They could offer tank removal services or suggest authorized disposal locations to you.
2. Contact local recycling centers:
In Philadelphia, there are numerous recycling facilities that will accept large propane tanks for recycling. To securely handle propane tanks, these facilities frequently feature specialized machinery. Ask about their regulations for disposing of propane tanks by calling or visiting the recycling center that is closest to you. Verify that they accept propane tanks and adhere to any instructions they give.
3. Consult hazardous waste facilities:
Consult a facility that handles hazardous garbage because it is set up to manage propane tanks and other dangerous items. To find out if they accept propane tanks for disposal, get in touch with your neighborhood hazardous waste center or visit their website. They may give you advice on how to move the tank securely and give you details on how to drop it off or pick it up.

Some work related blah blah
I am still kind of uh.....
Like.
Is it me that's bad at this job or is it that the job is understaffed?
It's still like every time I try to do a task I've been given, as soon as I get to the place that task is, or even if the task can be completed from behind the register, a customer needs me to run back to the register. Wash, rinse, repeat all shift long. The only time I can actually get anything done is when Owner is on the register and I don't have to worry about it.
Yesterday was Many Vendors Day and she wanted me to check in vendors and that means standing there and checking that the paper matches what's delivered. However, the vendors know they have to wait if there are customers.
Two VERY big deliveries came in yesterday and Manager ended up having to go deal with the one that did need checked in because I had customer... customer... customer customer customer... customer.... at that time. The other vendor just drops a ton of stuff all around the floor, gets a signature, and leaves so he doesn't need much attention.
A man came and asked for a propane tank swap? It had been dead before he came in, then I had like 7 people in a row and the manager vanishes at the WORST times. He was thankfully very patient and recognized the problem. All I could do was wave my arms at the security cameras hoping Manager would be watching and see I needed help, but she didn't. I discovered a wasp nest in the propane cage, so that'll need dealt with.
But anyway, my question/confusion is whether everyone else is actually able to complete these tasks and I'm just bad at it or are her expectations unreasonable?

OPERATION WNC DISASTER RELIEF: We are teaming up with
The Rebel Spirit
Blue Collar Cycle Company
Jaybird’s Custom Cycles
Pandemonium performance custom cycle
and other local businesses to collect and deliver supplies to our neighboring towns in western NC that are not ok. This is catastrophic. The devastation is vast. Help is needed immediately and will be necessary for an undetermined amount of time.
Drop off any of the listed supplies at tagged businesses and we will fill our vehicles and deliver to those in need. Send a dm for the address and we’ll get you to the nearest drop point.
Upon supply delivery today it was mentioned that many peoples only way of cooking was by propane grills. Some had generators but fuel was gone. If anyone would be willing to donate propane tanks, fuel & gas cans those are desperately needed as well. (The attached list was made for fly in delivery and the helicopters cannot accept flammable items, fuel, or water but we will deliver these items!)

WTF!!!!!
We have lived here in DE since Sept. 2020. The first thing we noticed that it almost never snows and the temps are very mild in the winter. Coming from PA, this was a huge difference.
When we moved into this house, we learned that the heat was propane. We also learned that to have the 124 gallon propane tank filled would cost us $500 which includes the delivery fee but not the $92/hr service fee. We never had the money, so we have not had propane heat at all. Two electric heaters were lent to us, and that is our heat. Mind you, the electric bill has gone through the roof because of them, and I have no clue how the frick I am going to be able to pay it.
This past 2 weeks, the temps have been upper 20s to low 30s at night. Cold. It even snowed a bit 2 days ago.
I noticed the temp just now, and it is 17 out. WTF!?!? It's cold in the house with both heaters going full blast. I hope to God the pipes don't freeze. Of all the times for the temps to get that cold it's when we have no propane, no money, and only 2 small electric heaters.
We are about to be homeless again, and these are the temps we may be facing. I am freaking out over here.

Long share.
I know there's still a little over a month left in the year, but what a year.
We had a record breaking winter with snowfall this year. We had a thousand-year storm (Hillary) come through that did severe damage to our mountain (thankfully no loss of life).
A week ago all the roads on the mountain completed the re-opening process. Though many of the hiking trails and parking lots remain closed. Some will remain so indefinitely. We live within a National Forest, and National Recreation Area, just to give you an idea of why things are being handled the way they are.
Our library is re-opening today which I am very happy about and will be going up there this afternoon to visit. It's been 3 months almost to the day since the flood that did damage to our little library and forced her to close.
On personal notes: I'm back in therapy. I'm working on my own spiritual journey again. My husband traveled all over the world this year for work.
Some of you may remember back on Dec. 31, 2020 our oldest got married. She and her (then fiance) bought a house together earlier that year, then he joined the Army after their wedding. This past summer he was deployed and when he came home he told our daughter that he wanted a divorce and there was no changing his mind. We were all devastated most of all of course our daughter, and she's still healing from this. Their divorce is technically final but they are still joined financially until they sell their home. She just needs all this to be behind her. When he told her he wanted the divorce he also told her that he'd been thinking about it for the better part of a year - seriously??!! So yeah, a lot of crap she's been going through.
We helped her find a place to live, she got a summer job that then led to a full time job and she's liking it and it will hopefully lead to a job (either within that company or elsewhere) in an area she really wants to be in. She's in a conservation job and wants to stay within that kind of work.
Our son got a second job and is loving it. He still has his first job for now but that may eventually go away. In the meantime while he works a lot of hours, he likes the extra money.
Our youngest ended her University journey as a student, and is now working as a farm hand at an equine research facility. She loves it, though it's hard work both physically and emotionally. We also helped her find an apartment where she's living.
We visited our other middle child this past summer and that was an amazing trip. We had such a great time, and have been itching to go back ever since. They are finishing up their Master's degree this year. I don't know yet if they're going for their Dr. right away or at all. They've loved the time they've had at their University and where they live. I hope wherever they go next, or if they stay there, they're are as happy as they have been this past year or so.
We've done some more house projects - electrical stuff, small retaining wall, steps leading to the propane tank up the embankment (the gas delivery people LOVE it as they no longer have to literally crawl up the embankment to deliver our gas!) We have more projects on deck for next year (it's always something!). We're still helping to support 3 of our children - it's a tough world out there financially and I truly don't understand how people think young people starting out, or anyone having to start over can do it on their own? We are very grateful that we have the ability to help our kids as we know so many families can't. It breaks my heart.
This Thursday is Thanksgiving here in the US and it will be the first Thanksgiving in almost 30 years where it's just hubby and I. It's going to feel so weird!! But, it will be a nice quiet day just the two of us (oh and our oldest's dog who we are dog sitting that day). But all the kids will be here for Christmas and my birthday so I'm super excited about that.
I hope this year has been a good one for you all, and if it's had its challenges like ours has then I hope you've come through them all in a way that is suitable for you, and you have peace with the outcomes. If you're still struggling I hope that peace will come soon. And I hope that next year is better for us all.

The Middle of Nowhere:  mysterymanjoseph and fvstxresponse
After returning from his service in the Marine Corps, the first things Joseph was required to do was learning what his grandparents had left to him in their wills, and besides the family’s corporation, it seemed there were tons of other things. Luckily, most where already administered by professional, he would only need to make any sort of ‘final’ decision at the end of the year.  One thing that did intrigue him, were a couple letters the executor of the the wills left for Joseph to read in private, and those were more or less, instructions to find and read a three ring book binder that was marked, ‘In Case of End of World’.  After finding the mentioned binder in the desk of the library at the family’s country estate, Joseph found that his grandparents were ‘preppers’, to the max degree.  The corporation had commissioned a think tank to assess the vulnerabilities of American society as a whole, and their conclusions were startling.  Civilization, is on a razor’s edge of survival, too dependent on technology and electricity.  The extended failure of either, will be the complete downfall of society.  Mentioned were the possible causes, but, the resulting catastrophe would be the same.  As a remedy, at least for their family, his grandparents had constructed ‘strongholds’,...or ‘refuges’, if one would prefer that term.  Small, fortified and supplied places to live, and hopefully, survive ‘then end of the world as we know it’.  So, Joseph decided to check these places out.  The first one, about ten miles from the tiny town of Alcova, Wyoming.  Arriving there, he sees the grounds are in need of maintaining, and with nothing better to do in his life, sets to work getting the place in shape.  The advantage of being a multi billionaire, you can have all sorts of supplies, tools, and the like shipped to about anywhere you want, so long as things are working as they should.  So, after a couple of months, the small house is comfortable and livable, all expired supplies replaced, and updated.  Stepping outside, he looks a the solar panels, and wind turbines the supply the place electrical power, thinking, “Well, not bad, guess one could live here, if you can stand being alone for extended periods of time.”  With news of a ‘polar vortex’ due to dive down from the North, the past couple weeks were in furious preparations for that weather.  If one is going to have a place, it better be able to withstand anything thrown at it.  He had doubled the ready supply of firewood, split stacked, and it was bought already seasoned.  If his propane supply became compromised because of the cold, the wood stove, and wood fired cook stove would be more than enough to keep the well constructed little home  comfortable.  Checking his watch, he decides to drive to Alcova, to check his mail, it is too remote out here for mail delivery.  Arriving at the one real business in the small settlement, he pulls into a parking slot at the convenience store/gas station.  He had made arrangements to have a mail drop box for him placed there.  He goes inside, greeting the regular cashier, then says, “Any mail come in for me the past couple of days?”

woke up later than I wanted to this morning in extreme pain because my shoulder has apparently decided on violence today.
discovered that the dogs opened the cabinet under the sink last night and got into the trash. Big mess to clean up now.
fucking cow gooped up the water trough by standing in it again so I had to go out and drain it to clean it out before refilling. Shoulder Did Not Approve.
Got my mail only to discover that 1) the mercari item that I paid for with credit from something I sold there had not charged me enough postage, so I owe postage on it to the tune of more than doubling what I paid for it, and if I had known postage would be that much originally, I'd have bought it new from amazon instead of "saving a few bucks" on mercari
and 2) a pin I have been waiting a long time for arrived with both posts bent.
got YET ANOTHER FUCKING PHONE CALL from United Home Warranties despite 1) being on the national do not call registry and 2) having BEGGED THEM every single previous time (12 and counting) that they called to take me off their fucking call list and respect that I am on the national do not call registry
went out to the truck to head into town because I need to deposit cash in the bank and get the correct cash to pay my postage due, as well as stop at the hardware store to get some yellow teflon tape, since I am expecting the delivery of the new regulator for my bulk propane tank today. the regulator to replace the one that lost 200 gallons of propane over the last 2 months, apparently.
Only to discover that my truck batteries - yes BOTH of them - are DEAD and could not even put my windows down, much less fire up the diesel engine.
decided to take advantage of my verizon roadside assistance program that I pay extra every month for. except that it took 20 minutes for them to get back to me and tell me that it would be TWO HOURS for someone to come from a shop 22 MILES AWAY to jump me. There's more than a dozen shops between here and there, including TWO less than two miles away in town. but they wouldn't do it for Verizon.
decided fuck it and tore the house apart to find my own charger and got it set up. Even if it takes two hours to charge a battery enough to fire up my truck, that will still be the same time it would have been to drag someone TWENTY TWO FUCKING MILES ONE WAY. like, wtf, Verizon?
It is now the 2 hour mark from that point. I am going to go try to start my truck. ....not charged enough to start. -sigh-
ever have one of those days where maybe you should have just stayed in bed?
EDIT: pistons that hold up my truck hood can no longer hold up that weight when it is warm. joy.

Custom Propane Trucks: Meeting Industry Demands for Specialization
The world moves at an unprecedented pace today, and industries involved in propane distribution are seeking ways to deliver this valuable fuel efficiently and reliably. From agriculture to construction, many fields benefit from the versatility and portability that propane avails. Such is the variance in industry needs that custom propane trucks have just the right features and answer.
Custom propane trucks are designed with exact precision and flexibility, as stated by what each business requires in operation. Be it propane delivery, construction, or agricultural services; a custom propane tank truck can better safety while making work easier and productive. In this blog, we are going to take a deeper look at the many advantages of custom propane trucks and how they can be engineered to meet diversified requirements across a wide range of industries.
Tumblr media
What is a Custom Propane Truck?
A custom propane truck, in essence, is a vehicle configured or altered to carry propane safely and with efficiency. By typical definition, they include a chassis on which a propane tank for truck applications, safety features, pumping systems, and controls are mounted. As a matter of fact, they can be fully customized to meet certain specific operational needs of the business using them.
Tumblr media
Industry-Specific Applications
Let's take a closer look at how customized propane trucks serve the needs of specific industries.
1. Propane Distribution
The reliability and functionality of propane trucks are very much the core to businesses that are into propane delivery and distribution. Such tanks have to carry large quantities of propane to residential, commercial, and industrial customers. Custom features can include larger tanks to maximize the load-carrying capacity, high-performance pumps for faster transfer, and electronic control systems that monitor fuel levels and ensure accurate delivery.
Besides that, distribution companies also provide propane tank trucks for various terrains and environments, from urban areas to country roads. Custom suspension and modification of the chassis will surely make such trucks able to function right across the board.
2. Construction Industry
Propane is a crucial fuel for most of the construction sites, which keeps the heaters, generators, and other equipment running. For such industries, a custom propane truck can be configured for prompt and efficient delivery of fuel in order to ensure no wastage of time. The trucks can be fitted with rugged designs so that they may last against terrible conditions of construction sites.
Moreover, such propane tank trucks can be fitted with safety features like remotely operated shut-off valves that operators can operate from a distance in case of an emergency. This offers minimal chances of accidents and ensures that the working of any industry concerning this aspect is done within the ambit of the law concerning safety.
3. Agricultural Needs
Propane can be utilized on irrigation systems, grain dryers, and generators. Since most agricultural ventures are based in the countryside, a propane tank for truck applications must be designed to handle off-road use. Most farmers also need trucks that can hold a volume of propane long enough to sometimes eliminate the need for stopping at filling stations altogether.
In this, custom propane solutions may include dual-purpose designs in which the propane truck may serve both for transporting vessels and on-farm fuel storage. A great deal of time and money may be saved in setting up extra storage tanks.
Key Features of Custom Propane Trucks
As far as businesses are concerned, there are a number of key features when it comes to custom propane trucks. Some of the key features include:
1. Tank Capacity
The size for propane tanks in truck applications can be tailored according to your needs. If your business needs small, agile trucks for quick deliveries or big ones to carry items in bulk, the sizes can vary based on the scale at which the given company performs.
2. Safety Enhancements
Safety would be one of the primary concerns when handling propane, and such custom propane trucks are installed with advanced safety features like automatic shut-off valves, pressure relief systems, and monitoring technologies getting real-time data about the conditions of the tanks.
3. Fuel Efficiency
In this regard, fuel efficiency is one of the most critical components of operating a business, particularly for companies that have to travel very far or in and around rural areas. With a custom propane truck, specific engines and fuel systems can be installed that better facilitate this operation by optimizing mileage and thereby reducing the total cost of operating the vehicle.
4. Durability
The custom propane truck is designed to be resilient to the demands of the industries it finds itself serving-whether it's rough terrains at construction sites or extended use in remote agricultural areas, durability and reliability are key factors in their design.
5. Pump Systems
While the pump system is indeed related to the major functionality of a propane truck, there are customization options for the integration of high-capacity pumps that help expedite the delivery process. Furthermore, these systems can be automated in order to minimize manual operation and maximize efficiency.
Tumblr media
Importance of Customization
Customization is a foremost concern, given that each industry has its own unique way of using and transporting propane. Without proper modification, one runs the risk of inefficiency, increased operating costs, and higher safety risks. Investment in a custom propane truck entails getting a vehicle designed with explicit attention to optimize workflow and regulatory standards in mind.
Third-party custom trucks can also be installed with future-proofing technology, so that in the future, as your needs will change, you can update or adjust items according to need. This will ensure that your propane tank truck will be serving you long into the future.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
For those industries that rely on propane as a vital resource, proper equipment for transportation and delivery is non-negotiable. For those businesses that require special propane trucks to provide the needed quantum of precision and efficiency, ordinary trucks will simply not suffice. A customized propane truck can make all the difference for businesses involved in the propane distribution industry, agriculture, or construction by enabling them to operate much safer, quicker, and efficient.
It's more than getting the job done; it's about doing it better, doing it safer, and doing it with more efficiency when investing in a custom propane tank truck. You will meet the particular demands of your business and stay ahead in the competitive market with the right truck.
