Again, the AU just writes itself:

Just think about it:

You go to a carnival that also just so happens to have a circus act.

You arrive in the morning, ready to spend a full day at the carnival and enjoy the circus act that only ever happens at night.

And things seem fine for a while. You're having fun, playing games, riding rides, the whole nine yards.

But then the sun starts to set. And as it does, the atmosphere changes. Things that were once so clear have become obscure. Become hidden. You walk around, hoping to make sense of what's happening, but if anything, everything becomes more unclear. At times, it seems like the world is losing color. Anyone you try to speak to is quiet. Still.

It's unnerving.

Throughout the entire time you've been there, you never saw the circus tent. You never saw it being set up. You wonder if there even is a circus act.

But as soon as the sun is down, you see it. It calls you over, and as if hypnotized, you walk over and head inside.

You take a seat. The curtains rise. The blues and purples inside the circus tent contrasting against the dying reds and yellows you saw outside. The ringleader smiles as the spotlight shines on him.

It's showtime.
