A taxonomy of corporate bullshit
Next Tuesday (Oct 31) at 10hPT, the Internet Archive is livestreaming my presentation on my recent book, The Internet Con.
There are six lies that corporations have told since time immemorial, and Nick Hanauer, Joan Walsh and Donald Cohen's new book Corporate Bullsht: Exposing the Lies and Half-Truths That Protect Profit, Power, and Wealth in America* provides an essential taxonomy of this dirty six:
https://thenewpress.com/books/corporate-bullsht
In his review for The American Prospect, David Dayen summarizes how these six lies "offer a civic-minded, reasonable-sounding justification for positions that in fact are motivated entirely by self-interest":
https://prospect.org/culture/books/2023-10-27-lies-my-corporation-told-me-hanauer-walsh-cohen-review/
I. Pure denial
As far back as the slave trade, corporate apologists and mouthpieces have led by asserting that true things are false, and vice-versa. In 1837, John Calhoun asserted that "Never before has the black race of Central Africa, from the dawn of history to the present day, attained a condition so civilized and so improved, not only physically, but morally and intellectually." George Fitzhugh called enslaved Africans in America "the freest people in the world."
This tactic never went away. Children sent to work in factories are "perfectly happy." Polluted water is "purer than the water that came from the river before we used it." Poor families "don't really exist." Pesticides don't lead to "illness or death." Climate change is "beneficial." Lead "helps guard your health."
II. Markets can solve problems, governments can't
Alan Greenspan made a career out of blithely asserting that markets self-correct. It was only after the world economy imploded in 2008 that he admitted that his doctrine had a "flaw":
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/greenspan-admits-flaw-to-congress-predicts-more-economic-problems
No matter how serious a problem is, the market will fix it. In 1973, the US Chamber of Commerce railed against safety regulations, because "safety is good business," and could be left to the market. If unsafe products persist in the market, it's because consumers choose to trade safety off "for a lower price tag" (Chamber spox Laurence Kraus). Racism can't be corrected with anti-discrimination laws. It's only when "the market" realizes that racism is bad for business that it will finally be abolished.
III. Consumers and workers are to blame
In 1946, the National Coal Association blamed rampant deaths and maimings in the country's coal-mines on "carelessness on the part of men." In 2003, the National Restaurant Association sang the same tune, condemning nutritional labels because "there are not good or bad foods. There are good and bad diets." Reagan's interior secretary Donald Hodel counseled personal responsibility to address a thinning ozone layer: "people who don’t stand out in the sun—it doesn’t affect them."
IV. Government cures are always worse than the disease
Lee Iacocca called 1970's Clean Air Act "a threat to the entire American economy and to every person in America." Every labor and consumer protection before and since has been damned as a plague on American jobs and prosperity. The incentive to work can't survive Social Security, welfare or unemployment insurance. Minimum wages kill jobs, etc etc.
V. Helping people only hurts them
Medicare will "destroy private initiative for our aged to protect themselves with insurance" (Republican Senator Milward Simpson, 1965). Covid relief is unfair to people that are currently in the workforce" (Republican Governor Brian Kemp, 2021). Welfare produces "learned helplessness."
VI. Everyone who disagrees with me is a socialist
Grover Cleveland's 2% on top incomes is "communistic warfare against rights of property" (NY Tribune, 1895). "Socialized medicine" will leave "our children and our children’s children [asking] what it once was like in America when men were free" (Reagan, 1961).
Everything is "socialism": anti-child labor laws, Social Security, minimum wages, family and medical leave. Even fascism is socialism! In 1938, the National Association of Manufacturers called labor rights "communism, bolshevism, fascism, and Nazism."
As Dayen says, it's refreshing to see how the right hasn't had an original idea in 150 years, and simply relies on repeating the same nonsense with minor updates. Right wing ideological innovation consists of finding new ways to say, "actually, your boss is right."
The left's great curse is object permanence: the ability to remember things, like the fact that it used to be possible for a worker to support a family of five on a single income, or that the economy once experienced decades of growth with a 90%+ top rate of income tax (other things the left manages to remember: the "intelligence community" are sociopathic monsters, not Trump-slaying heroes).
When the business lobby rails against long-overdue antitrust action against Amazon and Google, object permanence puts it all in perspective. The talking points about this being job-destroying socialism are the same warmed-over nonsense used to defend rail-barons and Rockefeller. "If you don't like it, shop elsewhere," has been the corporate apologist's line since slavery times.
As Dayen says, Corporate Bullshit is a "reference book for conservative debating points, in an attempt to rob them of their rhetorical power." It will be out on Halloween:

(This might seem more like an hc but I'll label as a prompt cuz I feel anyone is invited to try).
(Warning: Possibly ooc)
Cross Guild Love Prompt:
Buggy has an impressive collection of red lip tint products. And considering that commercial makeup is relatively new, there's a lot of things to choose for someone as flashy as Buggy.
From satin, to matte, to shimmer, to glossy. From every possible shade of red to some edding onto black. Some Buggy would collect solely for the capsule they've been sealed in. (One was a compact, and another opens like a switchblade).
Some more favorable than others, but his favorite one always leaves traces and marks everywhere. On glass rims, to napkins, his own gloves, hell even the his pens if he's found nibbling on the tips.
At first, it annoyed Crocodile and Mihawk to hell and back, constantly spotting these stains and by how often Buggy had to re-apply it. But along the path of their growth together, they sometimes would catch the shape of the mark, notice how the bottom lip always looked wider than the top lip. Or catch how gently Buggy applied his lipstick, slow and methodical, almost akin to a ritual. And how he looked at peace when satisfied with the results. (They won't admit how pretty the clown looks in these moments).
Then, one day, in the middle of a meeting, Mihawk saw Buggy put down his glass after a drink, only to find no mark! He immediately points it out, Crocodile asks why the change, and Buggy sheepishly answers that his favorite tube is on its last legs, so he's saving it for special occasions. In the meanwhile, it's just matte from then on. (Buggy's curious as to how the fuck they notice that but he'd rather not know).
But this does not bode well with Crocodile nor Mihawk, not only cuz they find themselves miffed at the change instead of feeling relief, but rather unsettled by the use of the term "special occasions".
Time passes, they grow closer and fonder by their own means, and cue said special occasion arrives, their first date together.
They dress in their best, and they see Buggy (aside from wearing something absolutely smashing [Buggy, the Fran Fine of One Piece, my beloved]), he's got his lips painted as always but the large red smile is missing. It's just his natural lip line this time. Crocodile took note how Buggy's smile reached the eyes. He didn't want to admit the flips in his chest... at least not yet.
Their private dinner was a hit, dessert was decadent, and the three were immersed in conversation. But alas, they had to end it there, Cross Guild still had work in the morning, and Buggy needed to finalize an acrobatic routine for an upcoming show.
Mihawk was going to offer to walk Buggy back to his tent, he was cut-off by a pair of lips. "I can walk just fine by myself.~" Buggy answered cheekily before giving Crocodile a kiss as well.
Buggy got up and just before he left the room, "by the way," he look back and sends them a cheeky grin, "red is nice color on you two." A wink and he was out of there.
The two warlords were a bit confused on that statement but as soon as they looked at eachother, they knew.
Each man had a red mark on their lips like a stamp.... and they loved it.
(Im not really good at creating conflict on my own, but I hope you enjoyed it 💖)
Love that Buggy’s hording makeup, the clown probably cleans out the used makeup product containers that he’s interested by what they look like and at least one of each container of his most favorite makeup to keep. Got a small treasure box or two filled with them because he likes trying different types of makeup. Holy stars I can see Buggy just shaking his hand with that lipstick that opens like a switchblade with a happiest and goofiest grin as it flips open, looking like he’s ready to stab someone with it before he carefully puts it on.
Not Mihawk and Crocodile asking (or probably demanding actually) about the reason why Buggy doesn't have his normal lipstick on. That’s gonna be one hell of a awkward conversation because why do you say to that? Buggy being like, “Oh.. yeah, my favorite tub from Chroma Charm is on it’s last legs, hopefully the package of the lipstick is coming soon… Wait how do you know?!.. Wait again, nevermind, pay no heed of my questions.” Poor Buggy he has no idea why Crocodile and Mihawk are miffed, only that it might have to do with him, but he has no idea why.
Love the date scene! All of them are sad it had to end so soon, if there wasn’t much work to do, then I’m sure that first date would of ended a lot later. Also Buggy was smooth with that!
I enjoyed this a lot, sorry it took so long to response

performer au / strandeed due to inclement weather
percabeth!
Annabeth had gotten the key from Thalia. Thalia had gotten it from Luke. Percy wasn’t sure where Luke got it from. He’s a charming bastard when he wants to be, so he might just have talked one of the receptionists into giving it to him.
Percy appreciated that he’d passed the exterior theater door key down through the presidents of the Thespian Society. It was really convenient when they needed to build a set on a Saturday, none of the drama teachers wanted to come and let them in. Or if you wanted to ditch a football game for something more private with your girlfriend.
But Percy was less comfortable about breaking in in the middle of the night, in the middle of the summer, to steal (borrow, Annabeth insisted) items from the costume and prop closet for the drama camp they were helping run. It felt more illicit. And more like he was going to get hit with a trespass charge. And his mom would be so annoyed about that.
But it wasn’t like he was going to say no when Annabeth asked him to come. That wasn’t how things worked between them. They had each other’s backs. They were partners in crime. Ride or die.
So he followed her around the back of the school, and parked his car in the alleyway, before she opened the door, and they slipped inside together. And passed the green rooms and dressing room into the prop and costume closet.
Freshman year, Percy and Annabeth had gotten detention, and had ended up being assigned to the drama department, and told to clean out and organize the closet. It was a long length of detention. After 3 weeks they had done it. Costumes arranged by time period and pieces and size. Props labeled. Broken bits and odds and ins thrown out.
That had 2 and a half years ago. Their system had not survived.
But they had also spent so much time back here that they had a pretty good idea where everything was.
Percy went to the corner he knew held the prop swords. After picking a few up, he just grabbed and armful. Then he turned to the shields. They were cool productions. Made by Annabeth and Rachel out of paper mâché, cardboard, and really amazing arts and crafts skills made for a fun take on Romeo and Juliet last year.
Annabeth was flicking through the costume racks. It was three levels high, and Annabeth had managed to climb up on the second rack so she could reach the third one.
He couldn’t help but admire her.
But he always admired her.
He spotted her from the bottom, mostly just trying to catch the costumes she was throwing down.
It took a while.
But eventually they had everything they could need. And if they were missing something, well, Annabeth still had the key.
But when they got out of the closet, they could hear outside again. And it wasn’t great.
The rain seemed to be pounding on the roof. And the thunder was louder still.
He glanced down at their supplies, and then looked up at the noise.
“A lot of this is paper, or roughly dyed.” He said.
“Yeah,” Annabeth agreed.
“I don’t think that’s great in this rain.”
“Yeah,” Annabeth said.
“So what do you want to do?”
She dropped her pile of clothes on the ground. And then flopped on one of the couches. Smiling up at him. They had spent a lot of time horizontally on that couch. “I don’t know,” She said, “what will we do here?”

I’m a leftist American. My beliefs are as follows:
Kill all billionaires.
Free healthcare is a fundamental human right.
Do not allow healthcare or prison systems to be privatized.
Legalize and heavily regulate all drugs and sex work.
Implement more rehabilitative justice.
Queer rights, trans liberation, etc.
Switch to using clean energy sources
Build high-speed trains across the mainland US (instead of using planes for mainland travel).
Mandate that all consumer products be produced ethically and are made to be long-lasting and high-quality. Use entirely recyclable and/or biodegradable materials.
Ban single-use plastics.
Impose strict limits on greenhouse gas emissions nation-wide.
Make AI content public domain. Training AI on the work of human creators without their consent should be considered copyright infringement. All AI content should be labelled as AI content.
Reform the education system by reducing class sizes, protecting educators, and re-implementing phonics for reading. Ban personal smart devices for students on school campuses (unless given special permission).
Make our communities walkable and aesthetically appealing.
Liberate and integrate disabled and neurodivergent people as much as possible while still giving them access to necessary resources for their condition.
The United States is fully capable of doing this. We just don’t. You can blame the ultra-wealthy for that. No more excuses.

Things Perv!Usopp Does Pt. 2 🍋
@namjoonsfavoritecrab: PLEASE MORE PERV USOPP I NEED IT ‼️‼️ (Take your time! Have a good day 🫶)
+ Reuploaded because the first got hit with label strike +
Summary: More HCs of things Perv!Usopp does- boyfriend edtion!
Warnings: smut, perv!Usopp, free use, toys, MDNI, NSFW
Likes casual sexual contact. Nearly anytime he's alone with you, no matter the location or task at hand, he's always feeling you up, playing with your privates, or sometimes just even having actual sex with you, all while just talking about mundane things. He likes groping your breasts as a way of fidgeting while he's working, or letting you ride him when you both laydown for the night while he tells you about his day.
Obsessively draws your figure in doodles all over his blueprints (which is why nobody else gets to see them), and will trace the shape of your hips in order to regain focus if you're not with him.
Gets upset if you bath without him. Not in an angry, controlling way, though. He just feels bummed that he missed a chance to ogle you.
Constantly fantasizes about you doing the wildest things to him while in the most mundane situations. He could be mopping the deck, but in his mind, you're there in front of him, sucking him off after having taken the chore over- only opting to scrub on your hands and knees...nude.
Loves the idea of free use, but would never admit it. He often drools on himself while imagining coming back to his room to work on an invention while you're under his desk sucking his stress away, or knowing that one of his friends just got done with you, and now it's his turn to remind you how good only he can make you feel.
Secretly humps your pillow. He'll sneak into the girls room and snatch it and fuck into until he finishes. He'll wipe the excess off with a napkin and place it back on your bed, dirty side down. That way, when the clean side gets too warm at night, you'll flip it and unbeknownst to you, sleep with your lips, hair, and cheeks pressed to his dried seed.
incessantly thinks of ideas for sex toys, for the both of you, some even to share. Vibrators, dildos, strokers, grinders and even accessories, like restraints and the like. He rarely actually tries to make them though. However there have been a few he's made and even tested. Needless to say the testing group (you) were very satisfied with the products.

Behind the Scenes: A Day in the Life of a Hot Sauce Producer
Morning: Sourcing the Best Ingredients
The day starts early at Modern Food Products with the sourcing of fresh ingredients. As a leading hot sauce supplier in KSA, the company emphasizes quality and consistency. The procurement team works closely with local farmers to ensure a steady supply of high-quality peppers, garlic, and other essential ingredients. The team conducts thorough inspections to ensure that only the best produce makes it into their sauces.
Farm Inspections and Quality Control
Farm Visits: Regular visits to farms are essential to maintain strong relationships with farmers and to ensure sustainable farming practices.
Quality Checks: Each batch of peppers is inspected for color, size, and heat level. Only the peppers that meet the strict standards are approved for processing.
Late Morning: Production Begins
Once the ingredients arrive at the production facility, the real magic begins. The production process at Modern Food Products is a well-oiled machine, designed to maximize efficiency while maintaining the highest standards of quality.
Washing and Preparing Ingredients
Cleaning: All ingredients undergo a rigorous cleaning process to remove any dirt, pesticides, or contaminants. This step is crucial for maintaining the purity and safety of the hot sauce.
Preparation: Peppers are sorted, and stems are removed. Garlic is peeled, and other ingredients are prepped according to the recipe specifications.
Mixing and Cooking
Recipe Formulation: Modern Food Products prides itself on its proprietary recipes, which are carefully guarded secrets. Each recipe is a precise blend of ingredients designed to deliver a unique flavor profile.
Cooking: The ingredients are then cooked in large vats. The cooking process is closely monitored to ensure that the flavors meld perfectly and that the sauce achieves the desired consistency. Temperature control is critical, as overheating can alter the flavor and texture of the sauce.
Afternoon: Bottling and Packaging
After cooking, the hot sauce is ready to be bottled. This stage is as crucial as the preparation and cooking stages, involving stringent hygiene and quality control measures.
Bottling Process
Sterilization: Bottles are sterilized to prevent any contamination. This is a key step in ensuring the shelf stability of the hot sauce.
Filling: The hot sauce is poured into bottles using automated machines that ensure uniformity and prevent spillage. Each bottle is filled to the exact level to maintain consistency across batches.
Labeling and Packaging
Labeling: Bottles are labeled with the brand’s distinctive design. For clients interested in hot sauce private labelling in Saudi Arabia, Modern Food Products offers customization options to create unique labels that reflect their brand identity.
Packaging: The labeled bottles are packed into boxes for distribution. Packaging is designed to protect the bottles during transit and storage, ensuring that the product reaches consumers in perfect condition.
Late Afternoon: Quality Assurance and Testing
Quality assurance is a cornerstone of Modern Food Products' operations. Throughout the day, samples from each batch are tested to ensure they meet the company’s high standards.
Sensory Evaluation
Taste Testing: A team of experienced tasters evaluates the flavor, heat level, and consistency of the hot sauce. This step ensures that every batch delivers the expected taste experience.
Visual Inspection: The color and texture of the sauce are inspected to ensure they align with the product specifications.
Laboratory Testing
Microbial Testing: Samples are tested for microbial contamination to ensure the hot sauce is safe for consumption.
Chemical Analysis: The pH levels and other chemical properties are analyzed to ensure the sauce’s stability and shelf life.
Evening: Logistics and Distribution
As the day winds down, the focus shifts to logistics and distribution. Modern Food Products, being a prominent hot sauce producer in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has a well-established distribution network that ensures timely delivery to retailers and customers.
Inventory Management
Stock Monitoring: Inventory levels are monitored in real-time to ensure there is always enough stock to meet demand.
Order Fulfillment: Orders from retailers and private label clients are processed and prepared for shipping.
Shipping and Delivery
Distribution: The packed hot sauce bottles are loaded onto trucks for delivery to various locations across KSA. The logistics team ensures that the products are delivered on time and in perfect condition.
Export: For international clients, including those looking for a hot sauce supplier in KSA, the export team handles all the necessary documentation and logistics to ensure smooth international shipping.
Conclusion: The Passion Behind the Spice
The journey of hot sauce from farm to bottle is a testament to the dedication and passion of the team at Modern Food Products. As a leading hot sauce producer in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the company’s commitment to quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction is evident in every bottle they produce. Whether you are enjoying their signature hot sauce or benefiting from their hot sauce private labelling in Saudi Arabia, you can be sure that each drop is crafted with care and expertise.
So, the next time you reach for that bottle of hot sauce, remember the intricate process and the hardworking individuals behind it. From the early morning farm inspections to the late evening logistics operations, every step is a crucial part of bringing that fiery flavor to your table.

yes.
Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia behind a veil of Congressionally imposed secrecy in June 1776 for a country wracked by military and political uncertainties. In anticipation of a vote for independence, the Continental Congress on June 11 appointed Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman, and Robert R. Livingston as a committee to draft a declaration of independence. The committee then delegated Thomas Jefferson to undertake the task. Jefferson worked diligently in private for days to compose a document. Proof of the arduous nature of the work can be seen in the fragment of the first known composition draft of the declaration, which is on public display here for the first time.
Jefferson then made a clean or "fair" copy of the composition declaration, which became the foundation of the document, labeled by Jefferson as the "original Rough draught." Revised first by Adams, then by Franklin, and then by the full committee, a total of forty-seven alterations including the insertion of three complete paragraphs was made on the text before it was presented to Congress on June 28. After voting for independence on July 2, the Congress then continued to refine the document, making thirty-nine additional revisions to the committee draft before its final adoption on the morning of July 4. The "original Rough draught" embodies the multiplicity of corrections, additions and deletions that were made at each step. Although most of the alterations are in Jefferson's handwriting (Jefferson later indicated the changes he believed to have been made by Adams and Franklin), quite naturally he opposed many of the changes made to his document.
Congress then ordered the Declaration of Independence printed and late on July 4, John Dunlap, a Philadelphia printer, produced the first printed text of the Declaration of Independence, now known as the "Dunlap Broadside." The next day John Hancock, the president of the Continental Congress, began dispatching copies of the Declaration to America's political and military leaders. On July 9, George Washington ordered that his personal copy of the "Dunlap Broadside," sent to him by John Hancock on July 6, be read to the assembled American army at New York. In 1783 at the war's end, General Washington brought his copy of the broadside home to Mount Vernon. This remarkable document, which has come down to us only partially intact, is accompanied in this exhibit by a complete "Dunlap Broadside"—one of only twenty-four known to exist.
On July 19, Congress ordered the production of an engrossed (officially inscribed) copy of the Declaration of Independence, which attending members of the Continental Congress, including some who had not voted for its adoption, began to sign on August 2, 1776. This document is on permanent display at the National Archives.
On July 4, 1995, more than two centuries after its composition, the Declaration of Independence, just as Jefferson predicted on its fiftieth anniversary in his letter to Roger C. Weightman, towers aloft as "the signal of arousing men to burst the chains...to assume the blessings and security of self-government" and to restore "the free right to the unbounded exercise of reason and freedom of opinion."

I'm horribly nosy and 0 shame about it. SO-
N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z
:3c
Going under the cut because it's long!
N = Night (How are nights spent with them?) When she’s on base it’s bedtime at 2200 no exceptions. Lights out, eye mask on, asleep by 2230 at the latest. Outside of base it really depends on her environment. She’ll take second watch most frequently, even swapping out with Gaz or Price if she can manage to persuade them. If she’s on leave and Mac is on leave at the same time… well. Drinks and dinner usually end up being the precursor to some pretty vigorous nocturnal activities.
O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?) Jonesy’s private life is private. She’s nowhere near as guarded as Ghost, but it still shocked the hell out of the team when they learned she has an ex-husband (Mac). It shocked them even more to learn that she’s still fucking him whenever she gets the opportunity. Shit, Gaz and Soap didn’t even realise that she technically owns a house (Price knows because of course he does, Laswell told him. Ghost found out by being a vaguely creepy arsehole). She’ll talk the boys' ears off about her Bampi and Nanny Grace whenever she can, so they know a good chunk about that side of her life.
P = Patience (How easily angered are they?) Doesn’t get angry often but is easily frustrated by silly shit. No clean mugs? She’ll kick off for 10 minutes and then settle down again. Has a hard time getting angry on her own behalf (self esteem issues anyone?) but does get righteously angry on behalf of people she cares about. One quick fire way to piss her off is to make a “sheep shagger” / “Welsh is a keysmash of a language” comment. Fuck you. She’s deeply proud of being Welsh despite not actually speaking much of the language.
Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?) Listen, Jonesy’s memory is a weird fucking thing alright? There’s a 50/50 chance she’ll remember a conversation with you at any given time but she remembers the oddest shit about people. She noticed which MRE was Gaz’s favourite (hotpot, the weirdo) and always trades it out with him. She noticed that Ghost hates the feeling of clothing labels touching his skin so she unpicks them carefully from his clothes whenever she does laundry and he’s got a new t-shirt/pair of pants/pair of trousers. She knows that Soap needs a cold irn-bru when he’s sick or hungover to start feeling like he might get better. She remembers what Price’s preferred type of leather polish is. But can she remember Christmas lands on 25th December each year? No. Can she tell you what day it is off the top of her head? Also no.
R = Remember (What is their favourite moment in your relationship?) Jonesy’s favourite memory of any relationship has to be when she told her Bampi that she enlisted. He rang everyone he could think of to boast that his little girl was following in his (and her father’s) footsteps! Nanny Grace wrapped her up in the biggest of hugs and told Jonesy that she'd make something special for tea, maybe even crack open that bottle of prosecco she’d been saving for her and Bampi’s anniversary early.
S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?) Work’s work. She’s got the team’s back at all times, just like they have hers. Outside of work though, she’s not all that protective. They’re all big boys, they can handle themselves and she certainly doesn’t want or need them sticking their noses in. Jonesy is a product of the Valleys, she’ll give as good as she gets verbally (and physically if it comes to it).
T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?) Jonesy tries, she really does, but with her slightly scatterbrained approach to remembering important dates it’s a bit of a lost cause. That’s okay because Mac never minded but she still has to scramble for a card or gift for Gaz or Soap when it’s either of their birthdays. Oops.
U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?) She’s a smoker and has been since she was 16 (despite Nanny Grace tanning her hide when she found out). Has cut the habit back a fair bit but still functions best with a massive mug of coffee and two cigarettes first thing in the morning. Bites her nails and the skin around her thumb until it bleeds. Shuts down emotionally when she’s feeling vulnerable which means she pulls away and gets downright nasty if she’s pushed to talk about it before she’s ready (Price and surprisingly Ghost, have borne the brunt of her ire one too many times by pushing her to talk).
V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?) Typical Valley’s girl. Jonesy is incredibly vain about her hair and gets a bit ratty if she can’t stick to her usual wash routine or get to use her usual conditioner. Aside from that, the practicalities of being out in the field mean that she doesn’t give too much of a shit about wearing makeup half the time. Does love a good sunbed when she’s on leave. Gotta top up that tan somehow!
W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?) She wouldn’t be incomplete without “her boys” as she calls Gaz and Soap, but she’d miss them like hell. She doesn’t fancy them but they’re such a big part of her life now that it feels weird when she doesn’t get to see them on leave.
X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.) Jonesy owns a 3-door ‘08 plate VW Polo - affectionately called The Shitbox. Soap isn’t quite sure how it’s still running but somehow against the odds (and Jonesy’s brutal driving style) it still does. Jonesy can somehow parallel park like a dream but ask her to park in a clearly marked parking space and she somehow ends up at an angle with at least two wheels outside the lines.
Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?) Centipedes and cockroaches can fuck off and die in Jonesy’s opinion. They freak her out badly enough that she practically scaled Ghost to get away from a roach in a shitty safehouse once.
Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habits of theirs?) Like any member of the team, she can and will drop off into a doze in most situations if she stays still long enough. Has fallen asleep in full gear propped up against a wall before while waiting for ex-fil. Ghost took pictures, the cheeky fucker.

The Real Villain of Succession Is Not Shiv Roy
photograph by David Russell/HBO
Siobhan Roy, typically known as ‘shiv’, is the youngest child, and only daughter, of the founder of Waystar Royco, Logan Roy. With her lack of training management, a product of being the only daughter and youngest of her father, Shiv uses her intelligence to help her win the fight of who will become the successor but, despite the fact that others in Succession are using similar ways to secure their victory, Shiv is being treated different to her counterparts, but why?
While Shiv is not squeaky clean with her actions and morals, with her intimidating a victim of sexual harassment, neither are her brothers, or anyone else in Succession. Roman Roy has sent private pictures of himself to Gerri Kellman, without her consent, making what he did sexual harassment, but if you were to search to see if anyone was talking about it, you would be met with a lack of conversation surrounding the topic. So why is Shiv painted as the real villain of succession, when she is surrounded by people who are not any better than she is? The answer is the one thing that she cannot escape, she’s a woman in a misogynistic world and a male dominated business. In the show, and in real life, Shiv is held to a different standard, a higher one, than her male counterparts, and is used by her family when they are in need of good press, then is pushed to the sidelines when she becomes no use to them.
In the episode 'America Decides’ Tom calls Shiv ‘unhinged’ when she mentions that the burned votes from Milwaukee probably had votes for Jimenez. The term ‘unhinged’ is occasionally rooted in misogyny, with women being told over and over again that they are more emotional than men, and that if they voiced their opinions or strongly believed in their feelings, they become ‘crazy.’ Words such as unhinged and crazy are used to subside a woman and her emotions, therefore making what she has to say less impactful, with the word labelling her as irrational. To her family, especially Roman, Kendall and Logan, her gender is seen as a liability, or as Logan puts it, “a fucking minus.’ She lacks credit for when her hard work goes according to plan in favour of the Roy family, but her brothers are praised for their work, producing the belief that what she does doesn’t count and proving the theory that her gender makes her be seen as less than, forcing her to have to try harder and be more intelligent than her brothers.
Acknowledging that Shiv uses feminism to her advantage, ready to weaponise it at any point that it would benefit her and that she doesn’t want to stop misogyny altogether, she just wants it to stop for her, she is still in a male dominated field where everyone is either too obsessed with having themselves win or oblivious to the misogyny that no one notices that Shiv is capable of succeeding. Albeit of the characters being fictional, Shiv stills face misogyny online, from people who think she is the villain of the show, even though nearly everyone is morally corrupt in their own ways and actions. Kendall is partially to blame for the death of a waiter, Roman is trying to get a fascist into the office, Tom is willing to betray anyone for him to get to the top and Greg has let the money take over his morals. But all of those were shoved out of the window when people realised that Shiv is easy to blame.
This is not the first time a woman has been labelled as the ‘bad guy’ on a show that has a more male leading cast. Breaking Bad, a world-wide praised show, had a character that was also hated on for no justifiable reason when she was alongside some point-blank ville peers. Skylar White, played by Anna Gunn, was the target of this hate, with her character being called "the most evil character on television.” Other morally-grey female characters have faced this misogynistic double standard as well, such as Summer from 500 Days Of Summer and many more, with them all being on the receiving end of misogyny.
If you watch succession with the question of “who is less morally corrupt" or “who is less evil” it’s not the right question to ask. Asking those is misreading the entire show, there is no one who is better, the point of the show is to watch what happens. What happens to the Roy family after they betray each other, ruin their moral compass, do what is best for them - not the majority. No matter how hard Shiv tries to not let misogyny affect her from getting what she wants, it’s impossible for her to escape the endless cycle of misogyny, no matter whether she is to win or to lose.

It's been a busy week! Between finishing my Maymester course and getting settled in at Peel, I haven't had time to post. I've been working for about a week now, but future updates will definitely be more often than weekly.
My first day here, I did some product photography for Father's Day. These pictures are definitely my favorite from amongst those.
The big project that weekend, though, was trimming down about 120 wedding invitations on the Rotatrim for a customer order. I can't post a picture because they have private info, but it was really cool to get to work on something that is part of such a momentous life occasion. I also cut down some flyers, which were less exciting, but I can actually post. I could definitely tell I was developing a much better and quicker method for operating the Rotatrim by the end, and so I went back and cleaned up some of the first invites I cut.
In the past few days, I have also done work that has given me a better feel for how the gallery and store operate. It sounds kind of boring, but I worked on adding price labels to some of the products we got in stock, which involved locating the products on the invoices to find the sale price. The price the gallery pays to the artists was also listed, which really helped me understand the price margins that a store like Peel operates on. Specifically, those were products meant for wholesale, which means the gallery purchases them from the artists up-front and then makes money whenever a customer buys them. Many of the smaller things in the store are sold this way. For most original artworks, however, it is based on commission: both the artist and gallery only get paid once the work is purchased.
On that note, I put out some artwork for sale! Some we had shelf space for, but others I had to hang on the wall and move around other works to make room for.
The next day, I spent some time watching Lindsay do color correction on a client photo, learning about how to do more advanced editing in Photoshop and making suggestions for how we may get the effect we want. I learned about some Photoshop features I had completely overlooked before. The original photo was a scan from a canvas print with an incredibly pink hue, but we were able to process the photo enough to nearly fully restore the natural color. I think everyone who works at the gallery did at least a little bit of work on that project.
Later that day, I helped pick out which works by a local fabric artist to stock. These are going to be sold on commission, so she dropped them off with us and we will let her know when they sell so she can be paid.
Also, I learned how to run the register. The main thing thing they made sure to emphasize was that, if the work or product being sold was not already listed in the point-of-sale system, I should write a note of what the item is that makes it clear what sold and take a picture if necessary. This is especially important with original artworks and prints sold on commission, as the artists has not yet been paid, and we must know who we own money to. As I get more familiar with the works in the gallery and the artists we work with, I expect to get better at recognizing the art that is being sold.
Finally, this morning, I helped set up for a book binding workshop by a local artist. I also helped demonstrate parts of the process I knew when people asked questions.
And now, as everyone is settled in and working on their books, I am writing this post! This has been a phenomenal week, and I am very much looking forward to the rest of the summer!

How Private Label Food Manufacturers in California, Like Sutter Buttes Olive Oil Co, Are Shaping the Future of Gourmet Products
California has long been synonymous with innovation, agriculture, and high-quality food products. As demand for unique, premium, and health-conscious foods continues to grow, private label food manufacturers in California are playing a key role in shaping the future of the food industry. Among these, Sutter Buttes Olive Oil Co stands out as a prime example of a brand that has embraced the private label model to expand its reach and provide customers with top-tier products that represent the rich agricultural history of the state.
What Is a Private Label Food Manufacturer?
A private label food manufacturer is a company that produces food products that are sold under another retailer's or brand's name. In simpler terms, the manufacturer creates the product, but the brand—whether a grocery store, restaurant, or retailer—puts their label on it and sells it to consumers. This model allows retailers to offer a unique product without having to produce it in-house, while manufacturers like Sutter Buttes Olive Oil Co can leverage their expertise to produce high-quality food items on a larger scale.
Why Choose Private Label Food Manufacturers in California?
California is home to a wealth of resources, a diverse climate, and a thriving food culture, making it an ideal location for private label food manufacturers. Here's why California stands out:
Access to Premium Ingredients: The state is known for its vast agricultural production, from citrus fruits and avocados to wine grapes and, of course, olives. With high-quality, locally sourced ingredients at their disposal, manufacturers in California can create exceptional food products that appeal to a wide range of tastes and dietary preferences.
Innovation and Sustainability: California has a strong focus on sustainability and innovation. Many private label food manufacturers in California are pioneers in organic, non-GMO, and environmentally friendly food production. This ensures that products meet the growing demand for clean, sustainable food choices.
Culinary Tradition and Expertise: With a robust culinary tradition, especially in the areas of Mediterranean and Californian cuisine, private label food manufacturers in California have the expertise to craft gourmet foods that stand out in the market.
Sutter Buttes Olive Oil Co: A Leader in Private Label Manufacturing
One brand that epitomizes the quality and innovation of private label food manufacturers in California is Sutter Buttes Olive Oil Co. This family-owned business, located in the heart of California’s olive-growing region, has been crafting premium extra virgin olive oils for over 25 years.
Sutter Buttes Olive Oil Co offers a variety of private label services for businesses looking to create their own line of gourmet olive oil products. Their commitment to quality, sustainability, and the art of olive oil production makes them an ideal partner for anyone looking to enter the olive oil market with their own branded product.
Why Partner with Sutter Buttes Olive Oil Co for Private Label Manufacturing?
High-Quality Olive Oils: Sutter Buttes Olive Oil Co produces award-winning olive oils using handpicked, California-grown olives. Their oils are cold-pressed to maintain the integrity of the flavor and the health benefits associated with extra virgin olive oil. For any business looking to create a unique private label olive oil brand, the superior quality of Sutter Buttes oils is a major selling point.
Customizable Options: Whether you're a boutique retailer or a large-scale grocery chain, Sutter Buttes Olive Oil Co offers a range of customizable private label options. From flavor infusions like garlic, basil, and lemon to specialized packaging, they work closely with clients to create a product that fits their brand identity.
Sustainability and Transparency: As consumers become more concerned about sustainability and ethical production, Sutter Buttes is committed to transparent sourcing and environmentally friendly practices. Their olive oil is produced using sustainable farming methods, ensuring that every bottle is not only delicious but also responsibly made.
Packaging and Branding: The visual appeal of a product plays a crucial role in its success. Sutter Buttes Olive Oil Co provides high-quality, custom packaging solutions that help businesses create an attractive and marketable product line. Whether you're interested in glass bottles, tins, or gift sets, their design team can help craft a look that resonates with your target audience.
Private Label Flexibility: One of the most significant advantages of working with Sutter Buttes Olive Oil Co is the flexibility they offer in terms of order size and production timelines. Whether you need a small batch of artisanal oils or a large order for nationwide distribution, they can meet the needs of businesses of all sizes.
The Benefits of Private Labeling for Retailers and Businesses
Partnering with a private label food manufacturer like Sutter Buttes Olive Oil Co offers numerous benefits to businesses:
Brand Control: Private labeling allows businesses to develop their own identity in the marketplace while benefiting from the expertise and resources of an experienced manufacturer.
Higher Profit Margins: By selling products under their own brand, retailers can often command higher prices compared to store-brand alternatives. Additionally, private labeling helps businesses build loyalty and recognition among customers.
Exclusivity: With private labeling, retailers can offer products that are unique to their brand, giving them a competitive edge in a crowded market. For instance, offering a signature olive oil blend from Sutter Buttes Olive Oil Co can set a business apart from others that sell mass-produced options.
Consumer Loyalty: Customers who enjoy a high-quality product like Sutter Buttes olive oil may be more likely to return for repeat purchases, boosting customer retention for the retailer or brand.
Conclusion
The rise of private label food manufacturers in California is transforming the way gourmet products are brought to market. Brands like Sutter Buttes Olive Oil Co offer exceptional products and services that make it easier for businesses to introduce high-quality food lines to their customers. With a focus on quality, sustainability, and innovation, private label manufacturers in California continue to be an integral part of the food industry’s evolution. Whether you’re a retailer, a restaurant, or a food entrepreneur, partnering with a trusted private label manufacturer can help you create a standout product line that appeals to today’s discerning consumers.
