"Some Iranian Canadians say they are taking efforts into their own hands to investigate and track down Iranian regime members and affiliates who are now in Canada — saying the Canadian government is not doing enough. 

One group even made the extraordinary move of publicly shaming a recent arrival at Toronto's Pearson airport, who they claimed was a regime affiliate, asking how she got a visa.

The issue has ramped up since protests erupted across Iran last fall after the in-custody death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who was arrested by morality police in Tehran for allegedly violating Iran's strict rules requiring women to cover their hair with a hijab, or headscarf.

As demonstrations have continued against the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran within the country and around the world, dissidents fear supporters of the regime may be leaving for safer harbours — like Canada.

"They're terrorists," said Mojdeh Shahriari, a human rights lawyer in Vancouver. "Do you want these people to roam around in Canada unchecked? Are you OK with that? I don't think so."

Shahriari is a member of an organization called StopIRGC, a group of volunteers who are dedicating time and money to follow leads on regime members and affiliates here in Canada.

She says they have received more than 200 reports and are looking into the strongest leads, sometimes with the help of a private investigator. Once a solid file is built, they will turn over the evidence to authorities to take further action.

"If Canada was doing what it's supposed to do to keep Canada safe, there would be no need for anything that we are doing," she said."

On August 5, 2020, Ms. Maria Ezzati appeared in BC Supreme Court and admitted to being in contempt of court by injecting people with Botox and dermal fillers, which violated an injunction prohibiting her from providing any service that may only be provided by a registrant of the College. Ms. Ezzati’s sentence hearing has been adjourned to a date yet to be determined.

The College previously hired undercover private investigators who attended a “Botox and filler party” at a private residence in Vancouver, where Ms. Ezzati was administering cosmetic medical injectables to attendees, and receiving payment in cash. Backbone is a narrative adventure game from indie studio EggNut. In the game you play as Howard Lotor, a raccoon private investigator, in the real streets of Vancouver, that is inhabited by human like animals. As Howard, you must travel to different districts, sniff out clues, collect evidence, interrogate witnesses, and choose which leads to follow.

Shovel Knight uses lots of different bright intense colours to make it standout from other games, applying opposing colours together to help perform this. Ghosts at the McLoughlin Graves

Every year, thousands of people visit the Dr. John McLoughlin House and his grave in Oregon City. People have called McLoughlin the Father of Oregon, because if it weren't for his influence, the Oregon Territory might not have become part of the United States. He did this in spite of the fact that as the chief factor (regional manager) of the British-owned Hudson's Bay Company, McLoughlin should have kept America settlers out.

Some visitors to the house have sworn that they have seen the ghosts of Dr. and Mrs. McLoughlin walking along the path that leads from their graves to the house. Inside the house, other visitors and staff have seen the disembodied shadow or outline of a tall man. One of the staff heard furniture being shifted around in the upper floor of the house. When she went upstairs to investigate, she found that all of the furniture in the master bedroom had been rearranged. According to others, on the anniversary of McLoughlin's death, September 3, a ray of sunlight shines through the parlor window onto a portrait of the doctor. When this happens, the portrait glows.

McLoughlin was a complicated man, having many values that were ahead of his time. Like many who started in the lower ranks of the Hudson's Bay Company, McLoughlin was born in Canada of French-Irish descent. Unlike many of his coworkers who were illiterate and born into the fur trade, he was educated as a physician before he joined the company. He rose through the ranks, eventually become the chief factor of Oregon Country for the company in 1824. At that time, the United states and Great Britian were negotiating for future control of the area, and McLoughlin moved his chief post from Astoria, building Fort Vancouver on the north bank of the Columbia River, opposite where the Columbia and Willamette Rivers met.

He did this to draw a line. The British would tale all the land north of the Columbia River, leaving the south of the river to the United states. Future events showed that this early move did not work. Eventually the United states gained ownership of all the land north of the Columbia to the present border of Canada. This was due in part to McLoughlin's overwhelming sense of humanity.

McLoughlin was born into a Catholic family, and, though raised as a Protestant, he eventually returned to his Catholic heritage. Like many early settlers, his wife, Marguerite, was part Native American. Unlike most frontiersmen, he was happily married and did not abandon her in favor of a white wife later in life. McLoughlin was six foot four inches tall and had prematurely gray hair. The Native American he dealt with called him Great Eagle because of his fairness and dignified bearing. McLoughlin aided many Americans pioneers after many of them nearly starved upon arriving in Oregon. He did not stop them from settling in what would become Washington, and the Hudson's Bay Company eventually forced him to retire.

McLoughlin filed a land claim and helped plan the community of Oregon City as the logical capitol for the American settlers. In 1846, he retired to Oregon City and began sponsoring local commerce like fishing, sawmills, and a store. He donated three hundred building lots to private parties, as well as a school and several different churches. He loaned money to many people and practiced medicine for free. In 1847, the pope made him a member of the Knighthood of Saint Gregory for his humanitarian acts.

Unfortunately, many of the American settlers distrusted McLoughlin because he used to work for the Hudson's Bay Company. Many people borrowed money and never repaid it; some bragged it was because he was a foreigner. Even though McLoughlin eventually became a U.S. citizen, his enemies were able to have his original land claim dissolved, because he was not a citizen when he filed the claim. Fortunately, no one tried enforcing the dissolution of McLoughlin's claim.

Despite this, McLoughlin was a leader in American society, until his death in 1857 at the age of seventy-two. He and Marguerite were buried at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church. The church was demolished and rebuilt in 1948, and their bodies were moved with it. McLoughlin's house was also moved. It stood on the lower banks of the Willamette River until 1909, when it was scheduled to be demolished. As one of the largest houses in old Oregon City, it had been used as a private residence, a boardinghouse, and possibly even a brothel. Many thought it would have been a good thing to tear it down, but the McLoughlin Memorial Association had it moved to a new location overlooking the river. They restored it and operated it as a museum for several decades. In 1970, they moved the McLoughlins' graves onto the grounds of the house. In 2003, the National Park Service took over the McLoughlin House, as part of the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site.

Backbone-anthropomorphism: Backbone presents the familiar noir detective adventure against the backdrop of an alternate reality Vancouver, British Columbia. The denizens of the city are anthropomorphic critters of all types. The various species are fill-ins for the divided classes of this dark, wet town. Howard Lotor serves as the protagonist of this tale, a raccoon private investigator with a tan trench coat and a trunk full of existential baggage.

This character design itself is odd based on the theme of the game. All the animals in this game act like humans despite being different species from across the world.

Shovel Knight: This design also has contrast based on its appearance. Shovel Knight is portrayed as a knight who looks has battle ready armor and giant horns on his helmet. However instead of having a sword and a shield, this knight has a shovel. I really like this contrast because it gives the player's character a bit of a comical way of attacking

This Old Soldier Won't Fade Away

The United States Army built the Vancouver Barracks in 1849, and it is one of the oldest U.S. Army posts on the West Coast. One of the oldest surviving buildings there is The Grant House, which started as a combination headquarters building, officers club, and residence for its post commander.

Ulysses S. Grant was a lieutenant who served as quartermaster at the Vancouver Barracks in 1852. It's strange that the building was named for him, since he never lived there and only visited it to be reprimanded by the post commander, who was never pleased with his performance. The building should have been named for Lieutenant Colonel Afred Sully, a onetime post commander and possible ghost candidate.

Sully was born in 1821, the son of portrait artist Thomas Sully, and graduated from West Point in 1841. During his military career, he fought in the Seminole War, was involved in campaigns against various Native American tribes, and fought in the Civil War, where he rose to the rank of brigadier general and commander of the 1st Minnesota Volunteers. After the war, he was demoted to lieutenant colonel and served in many locations, the last of which was as post commander at the Vancouver Barracks in 1874. He'd remain there until he died in 1879.

According to some, Sully had rheumatism, which caused muscle stiffness and serve stomach cramps. He was in constant pain and developed a reputation for being short-tempered. Based on descriptions of his illness, it's likely he suffered from a long and painful death from stomach cancer. Today, the city of Vancouver owns the Grant House and leases it to restaurants, who operate it as the Restuarant at the Historic Reserves. The restaurant owners report many strange occurrences there.

Alfred Sully's private quarters were on the second floor of the building, but he seldom slept the entire night through. Because of the chronic pain, he spent hours pacing the floor, rather than lying in bed. A restaurant manager used to hear someone pacing outside of Sully's old room. Once, she left her office to investigate, and as she stood in the center of the hallway, the disembodied footsteps did not pause, but literally walked right through her, pacing back and forth down the hallway.

Some years ago, the restaurant needed to have a new phone system installed. A technician arrived early and was let in by a tall man with a beard, who was wearing a long, old-fashioned coat. That man took the technician to the basement and left him there to finish his work. The owner arrived later and was surprised to find the technician inside, because the owner was the only one with keys to the building. He searched, but the building was empty except for the technician.

In the summer of 2006, the restaurant's executive chef invited his family to the restaurant for a private diner on the veranda. His sister went inside to use the restroom and saw a tall, thin, bearded man in a long coat. He was staring out the window at her table and ignored her presence. When she came back, the man was still standing by the window.

"Is there anything I can do for you?" she asked.

He replied, "No. I lived here before, and I am just looking around."

She said to herself, "All right" and went back outside, where she told everyone about the odd exchange. The building was supposed to be empty, so the rest of the family went inside to look for the tall man. As in the earlier sighting, the place was empty.

Recent laws made smoking in public places in Washington illegal, and from time to time in the early mornings, people have stopped in to complain about a tall man they see smoking a pipe on the upper veranda. When the employees go upstairs, nobody is there, though they sometimes smell tobacco and, strangely, rose water, a gentle reminder perhaps of a distant past and a soldier still at his post.

OSCE Parliamentary Assembly recognizes Russia as state sponsor of terrorism

The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly recognized Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism and the private mercenary Wagner Group as a terrorist organization, according to Yevheniia Kravchuk, a member of the Ukrainian delegation to the assembly.

The Vancouver Declaration adopted by the assembly on July 4 says that Wagner Group’s actions on behalf of the Russian government “can rightly be characterized as terroristic in nature and intent."

The declaration emphasizes Russian dictator Vladimir Putin publicly admitting that Wagner was fully financed by the state.

According to the document, OSCE member states should take measures against Wagner and its structures, including by designating it as a terrorist organization.

The Russian state-backed mercenary Wagner Group played a key role in Moscow’s military efforts in eastern Ukraine, especially in taking Donetsk Oblast’s key city of Bakhmut in late May this year.

Wagner Group has been accused of torturing and executing civilians and POWs in Ukraine, Syria, and other countries. The U.S. has designated Wagner as a “significant transnational criminal organization” and imposed sanctions on its support network worldwide.
