Recently redrew an old She-Ra and Catra piece I did a couple of years back. I redid a fair amount of the line work, fixing old issues and beefing up some proportions. Then I recolored the whole thing. It's kind of amazing to see how much my coloring has changed in just a few years and how much that affects the overall look and feel.

I thought there were things to like about the new series, but I do kind of suspect it was something else shoe-horned into a reboot because that's the vast majority of anything that gets made by big media companies. So I've meant to do something with it for quite some time and had this sketch lying around so why not finish it?
I like making star fields, they're always fun.

She-Ra, Princess of Power, is not strictly speaking a comic book heroine, being originally a member of the Masters of the Universe franchise and more frequently seen in the cartoon series and as a Mattel figurine. Originally conceived as a female equivalent of her twin brother, He-Man, She-Ra’s true identity is that of Princess Adora of the planet Eternia and leader of a rebellion against the dark forces of the demon Hordak, leader of the Evil Horde, who wishes to take over the planet of Etheria. Adora, although a brave warrior, possesses no super powers of her own, but she has the ability to transfer into the super heroine She-Ra. Adora’s alter ego, known as the Princess of Power, is equipped with a mighty Sword of Protection, as well as super-strength and speed and phenomenal fighting abilities. She-Ra, although more than a match for anything Hordak can throw at her and the free peoples of Etheria, also possesses a gentle character, concerned with with the fate of animals, and merciful in victory, as shown in her ironic but lenient treatment of the defeated villainess Scorpia in the page below.

The original She-Ra comic book ran for fourteen issues in 1986/87, published by London Editions Magazines. These British-produced adventures were light-hearted and comic and aimed at a younger female audience. Nonetheless, this latter-day Wonder Woman was an engaging heroine, unremittingly good and virtuous but also a powerful yet feminine character, which gave her a gentle credibility that has eluded many other more kick-ass comic book females. In 2017, She-Ra/Adora was given a substantial relaunch as a more teenaged character, She-Ra the Fire Princess, starring in her own Netflix series and graphic novel.
The cover shown is to She-Ra #4, Hardok’s Dragon Attack (October 1986). It was illustrated by Joan Boix.
