Princess Aura using her considerable female wiles to try to seduce Flash Gordon. True to the original Alex Raymond comic strip, Flash finds himself shirtless.
And this was a Saturday morning cartoon for kids!

Flash Gordon was released on December 5, 1980. While the opening scenes modernized Flash Gordon (Sam J Jones) to 1980 and changed him from a polo player to a football player, once he and Dale Arden (Melody Anderson) met with scientist and inventor Dr Hans Zarkov (Topol), the costumes, sets, props, and characters took on the look of the Alex Raymond comic strip from the mid 1930's to the early 1940's. As with the comic strip, Flash, Dale, and Zarkov left our world to go to space to confront the man who was threatening the Earth, Ming the Merciless (Max von Sydow). Aiding the earthlings, were Prince Barin (Timothy Dalton) and Prince Vultan (Brian Blessed). Ming also had his own alies in his daughter Princess Aura (Ornella Muti), and evil henchmen Klytus (Peter Wyngarde) and General Kala (Mariangela Melato). The movie was famous for the powerful score and soundtrack by the rock band Queen. ("Flash Gordon", Film, Event)

One Dress a Day Challenge
March: Pink Redux
Flash Gordon / Ornella Muti as Princess Aura
For a princess, Aura doesn't dress much differently from the average court member on Mongo. But then, with this level of elaborateness, there isn't a lot of room to get fancier! The exact shade of her off-the-shoulder dress appears to vary quite a lot with the lighting. We see it both with and without the pointy-shouldered cape.
The belt is not only highly decorative, but a practical way of concealing weapons, apparently.

“The idea was going to be that she had resisted being tortured by pain, so we were going to stick her in this glass coffin with holes in it, naked, and put in bore-worms with little sharp teeth that send an electric current of sheer ecstasy when they bite! So, she realizes that she'll die of ecstasy if they don't stop. As it was filmed, she just says, "Not the bore-worms!" and then they cut the whole scene! My best things in Flash Gordon were all cut out. I did a Flash Gordon sequel outline which was never filmed, either."
- Colin Wilson, uncredited screenwriter
