b*t*s recognition for older, western, beginners (me): (pls ignore if you are experienced army this is for funsies only) (or add more, or corrections, or whatever, i can't tell you what to do lol)

kim namjoon (rm) hyung-line: tall, rapper, perfect english, brainy smart, leader: so often mc-ing and/or wrangling bag of catsmembers, longsuffering, sarcastic and funny, big boy, accidental breaker-of-things

kim seokjin (jin) hyung-line: also tall, singer, princely handsome, fashion plate, actor, oldest but only pulls the card occasionally, from money, suave but also dork, well-traveled since childhood *enlisted in december 2022

min yoongi (suga, agustd) hyung-line: short, rapper, has the producer/songwriter/rapping archetype going for him, mostly in black off-duty, pretty cat man, introvert, deep speaking voice, lil bit of a godfather vibe but tiny cute godfather?, stealth fond and affectionate (yes my bias shhh)

jung hoseok (hobi, j-hope) hyung-line: medium height tier, dancer & rapper, distinctive high cheekbones and sunshine smile, laughs a lot but has that dance practice stern face when he's not joking, often indulgent wine aunt vibes, actual pre-debut street cred like rm and suga *just recently went for enlistment

kim taehyung (v) maknae line: shorter but not short, singer: has a husky breathy register out of several modes, it boy and model, princess mode needs care and attention, poor boy made good, emotional (actually they all cry a lot if you go by videos)

jeon junkook (jk, kookie) maknae line: medium tall, main singer: often a clear r&b flavored tenor, "the one with the tattoos" (right hand and full sleeve most visible) and the calvin klein ad, lip-piercing as well now i believe, strong, extremely hip, excitable, good at everything, the youngest and Baby

park jimin (jimin) maknae line: technically shortest, singer: clear high tenor, trained dancer like *whoa*, flirt, smooth and stylish, pretty as a personality trait, maknae gremlin but with hyung maturity (caretaker), abs, falls off chairs (and only chairs? otherwise immune to gravity)

- these are some busy, busy elite-caliber performers at the very top of the game and i definitely am in awe. like the guys who technically aren't "dancers" in the group are still leagues above many regular official 'lead dancers' in skill - as a whole they are just functioning on another level and it is impressive. i understand army a lot more now

Smile. Just smile. It's the first thing he remembers ever hearing from his mothers lips. He'd mistaken it as useless for so many years, that simple advice. He was a prince. A crowned prince. A Naiad of the most Nobel family and with more claim to his place in life than others. A descendant of Raum, blood of a monarch within his veins. Fated.

If he frowned, others rushed to make him smile. When he laughed, others laughed with him, causing ripples within the sacred fresh waters. And when he cried, he could move both heaven and hell to reclaim his happiness. His looks, his moods, they were powerful. When he was young he used those powers often.

It wasn't until he had reached true childhood, a boy of eight that he recognized the grace in such a simple act. The way a curve of lips could so perfectly mask every emotion, could change the tide of empires. No longer a toddler, the heir of the kingdom became genial and soft, seemingly overnight. So well behaved. So approachable. He could accomplish more with a boyish grin than a thousand tantrums, and he did.

He used it. Winning the hearts and trust of his people. Hiding his distaste of the inter-mingling of naiads and dryads. After all, a tree could never truly appreciate water, greedily sucking it dry. Never realizing that its very existence could not continue without the other. Dependent, Weak. So easy to mistake as powerful.

Lucky, that's all he was. Lucky to not be so old as to have lived war, nor so young as to have forgotten it. Peace held for a long while under the stewardship of his ancestors. Perhaps not perfect, but well maintained. No more death and fear of the old days, no risk of destruction if a glamor was assumed for the sake of wandering towards town to see what all the fuss was about.

Perhaps he'd been naive in his faith that things had, and would continue following the natural order. That Naiads would reign and lead, guide further generations forward into more of the same regardless of what the future held. That their borders would hold strong.

That their only true enemy was mortal kin.

Of all the ways he imagined his reign, how it might begin, or end. Being deposed had never once featured. Their family had always seemed so secure within their place. The natural rulers of the Nymph-folk. It had truly never crossed his mind — no consideration wasted imagining that the greedy trees and their insatiable thirst would turn on the very hands which fed them.

So he smiled. Through the end. Through the humiliation of losing his birthright. Of watching the green folk claim what was his. Smiled when the Naiads came to him for comfort, for security. When they whispered their support, or held his gaze just a little too long.

Smiled at the new monarch and the very being that stood in a position that was rightfully his. Eyes always watching. Plotting. Each fresh wave of rage that threatened his sanity echoed as a ripple on the surface of his being.

If he could not rule, then he would ruin. Would bide time and play to the softness they all seemed to believe was his only trait. Would let the dyad sleep peacefully and feast themselves fat until the roots took to rotting and the very essence of their being was poisoned from the core. While they grew soft, and the world around them burned, he would wait.

But he would not rest. Not until every last member of this new royal family had faded from their world. Until this new heir was dead, throat between his teeth as the liquid it stole returned to the earth to filter and trickle back to the waters from which it came.

Siwoo would fulfill his name. He would start the typhoon that would tip the scale of their kind back to its natural balance. Would rain hell upon any who sought to stop him. He was hardly a moral being, he cared little for if revenge and killing were good or bad. They were merely inevitable.

All the while, every second of every slowly passing minute, he would smile. Shore the rage that burned hotter than magma behind the perfectly curated gentle looks and the soft tilt of lips he was so well known for.
