Entry 729: Xindi-Reptilians
Home World: Xindus
Occupation: Alien villains of the season
First Appearance: "The Expanse" (ENT, 2003)
Summary: Having six warp-capable separate sapient species evolve on the same planet at the same time is an extremely rare and unusual phenomenon. Yet, it happened on a world in the Beta Quadrant named Xindus. The Xindi were divided along the lines of their species and territory, with the Primates, the Arboreals, the Aquatics, the Insectoids, the Reptilians, and the Avians having six different opinions on which species was dominant among them. A vicious civil war between the Xindi ultimately ended with the destruction of Xindus in the 2030s, and the extinction of the Avians. The remaining five species banded together for mutual protection and development, and became among the most powerful governments in the Beta Quadrant. They were already an old spacefaring species with some intraplanetary ruins stretching back over 2,000 solar years.
In the mid-22nd century, they were contacted by a mysterious group of beings from the distant future, who identified as the legendary beings from their religion known as the "Guardians". The "Guardians" warned the Xindi that a species unknown to the Xindi - known as Humans - was going to destroy their new home planet in the future. Supplying them with information and future technology, the "Guardians" guided the Xindi to new riches across the galaxy. At the same time, the "Guardians" began to transform the territory in the Xindi sphere of influence, creating a gigantic web of gravitational anomalies and spatial phenomenons known as the Delphic Expanse. The Xindi decided to attack humanity first, and sent a probe with an incredibly devastating particle-beam superweapon to attack Earth. The superweapon killed seven million people, tearing a massive trench in the planet's crust from Florida south to Venezuela. Horrified and infuriated, humanity sent their best warp-capable vessel - the NX-01 Enterprise - into the Delphic Expanse on the advice of "Future Guy", who opposed the "Guardians" in the Temporal Cold War.
The pilot of the weapon was a Xindi-Reptilian, the most aggressive of the Xindi species. Tough, stubborn, deceitful, and known for impatience, the Xindi-Reptilians proved to be the greatest threat Earth had ever faced up to that time. Even after it became clear that the "Guardians" had lied about humanity, the Reptilians insisted on continuing their genocidal mission. The most militaristic Xindi, they were surgically implanted with a "suicide gland" that would dump a neurotoxin into their system if they were captured. In the end, the captain of the NX-01 was forced to make some extremely difficult choices when it came to facing the Xindi...
