Site Update - 8/3/2023
Tumblr media
Hi Pillowfolks!
How has your summer (or winter) been? Our team is back with a new update! As always, we will be monitoring closely for any unexpected bugs after this release, so please let us know if you run into any.
New Features/Improvements
Premium Subscription Updates -  Per the request of many users, we’ve made a number of updates to creating & editing Premium Subscriptions.
Users can now make credit-only Subscriptions without needing to enter in payment information, if your credit balance can fully cover at least one payment of the features fees.
Users can also now apply a custom portion of their available accrued credit monthly– i.e., if the cost of features is $5.97 every month, you can choose to cover only a portion of the cost of features with your credit.
Users who have recently canceled a Subscription no longer have to wait until the payment period expires to create a new Subscription.
To access Pillowfort Premium, click on the  “PF Premium” icon located in the left-hand sidebar. This page will allow you to convert your legacy donations to Pillowfort premium, review & edit your subscriptions, and more.
Premium Image Upload Limit Increase: Good news! We’ve raised the limit for Premium Image Uploads to 6MB (formerly 4MB), at no extra cost! We may raise the limit further depending on how the subscriptions service performs and how our data fees fare.
Premium Subscription Landing Page & Frames Preview: We improved what users who do not have a Premium Subscription see on the Subscription management page to provide more information about the Premium features available. This includes the ability to preview all premium frames available.
New Premium Frame: We’ve released a new premium avatar frame! We hope you like it. We also have more premium avatar frames in the works that will be released later this month.
Tumblr media
Modless / Abandoned Communities Update - Our Developers have made changes to our admin tools to allow our Customer Service Team to be able to change Community Ownership and add/remove Moderators to help revitalize abandoned and modless Communities. We will make a post soon explaining the process for requesting to become a Mod and/or Owner of a Community.
Bug Fixes/Misc Improvements
Some users were not receiving confirmation e-mails when their Pillowfort Premium Subscription was successfully charged. This should now be fixed.  Please let us know if you are still not receiving those e-mails.
Related to the above bug, some users who were using their credit balance in Subscriptions were not seeing their credit balance being properly updated to reflect the credit used in those Subscriptions. We have now synced these Subscriptions, so you should see a decrease in your account’s credit balance if you are using that credit in a Subscription.
Fixed a bug where users were unable to delete their accounts in certain scenarios.
Fixed bug that displayed errors on the log-in page incorrectly.
Made improvements to how post images load on Pillowfort, to reduce image loading errors and improve efficiency for users with slow web connections.
Fixed a bug causing the checkmark on avatar frame selection in Settings to display improperly.
Terms of Service Update
We have made a small update to our ToS to specify that “deepfakes” and other digitally-altered pornographic images of real people are considered involuntary pornography and thus prohibited.
And that’s all for today! With this update out, our team will now be working full steam on post drafts, post scheduling queuing, and the progressive mobile app! Be sure to keep checking back on our Pillowfort Dev Blog for further status updates on upcoming features.
Best,
Staff

Premium Features Suite Update February 2023
Tumblr media
Good Day Pillowfolks!
We hope you are staying safe, cozy, and healthy.
Our development team has made significant progress since December 2022. We’ve gotten the majority of the work on the features themselves done already, and they are currently in testing with our QA specialist. We’re excited to share a preview of the multiple avatar premium feature with all of you today!
Tumblr media
Description: A preview of the Multiple Avatar Premium Feature on the User Account Setting's Page. Four Avatar Images are showcased in this preview. Users will have the ability to edit and upload multiple avatars. Multiple Avatar Premium Feature will be a paid feature.
Tumblr media
Description: A preview of the Multiple Avatar Premium Feature during post creation. Users will have the ability to choose an avatar in the post editor. Multiple Avatar Premium Feature will be a paid feature.
In order to release the first set of premium features on Pillowfort, however, our team still needs to finish development & testing on the workflow & tools related to the creation, updating, and management of the new subscriptions system, plus calculating all existing payments from users who have donated in the past to add as credit to their account. Due to the fact that this update will involve handling money, we want to be extra careful that the subscription system will be well thought-out, implemented, and tested. With this in mind, we want to apologize for the length of time it is taking us to complete this much-anticipated release, but we hope you understand the need for us to be thorough in our approach to this feature.
It is no secret that we are significantly behind on our original development timeline, largely due to the obstacles we experienced in 2021 as well as the extended development of the UI overhaul last year. We have been triaging our development priorities based on many factors such as user feedback, security & functionality needs, and our long-term needs as a small business that requires money to operate. Unfortunately due to funding, our team only has limited hours to work on Pillowfort each month, but the release of the premium features suite is an important step in getting our revenue stream more reliable in the long term, and development will hopefully get back up to speed as our financial situation improves. Thank you for being patient with us as we complete this important step in Pillowfort’s growth.
Going forward, we will do better at level-setting expectations with our community going forward on time frames for features. We will also communicate more frequently on the progress of features currently in development in hope you will not feel like you have been left in the dark.
Also, we want you all to know there will be items included in the next update that will be available to all users, including a few site optimizations, bug fixes, and new profile badges such as the MLM pride flag.
Let us know if you have any questions and we will answer them to the best of our ability in the comment section. Have a great weekend.

on android at least from version 10 upwards, your OS should have this thing called Digital Wellness that can be found on your Settings.
Tumblr media
[ID: Android 11 settings page screenshot on my device, a Realme 3 Pro, where "Digital Wellness & parental control" is located between "App Management" and "Battery" settings.]
this is what the Digital Wellness settings page looks like:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: Digital Wellness page screenshots.]
at the top is the diagram showing what apps you've been using for this date with the total hour spent on all of them cummulatively at the centre. if you click on that, or the "Dashboard" settings below it, you'll be taken to another page where you can set duration limit for each app's usage.
Tumblr media
[ID: Digital Wellness' Dashboard page.]
click the hourglass icon to the right of the app to set the time limit. your options range between 0 hour and 0 minutes to 23 hours and 55 minutes. limit will be reset at midnight, your device time.
Tumblr media
[ID: Application timer settings, this one is set for YouTube. the default time limit is 30 minutes.]
now, if you've set this, whenever you've hit the time limit whilst using the app, it'll automatically close and get blocked from usage. worthy of note that the time limit works with a 24 hour duration and only reset at midnight. that is to say, if you set the time limit for Tumblr at 1 hour, after you've used the app for 1 hour in a day then it won't be accessible anymore until past midnight.
Wverlaek's Block app for Android does the exact same thing, but with an additional feature of the ability to set timer for each hour instead of one whole day (though the daily block option is also available). so if you set the time limit for Tumblr at 25 minutes per hour, the timer is reset at the next hour. useful for apps you kinda do still need at the regular but can also easily suck you down an endless rabbit hole, e.g. Wikipedia.
additional note: Block also has the feature to: 1) make it so that upon phone reboot, app blocks immediately resume instead of you needing to manually reactivate them by opening the app; and 2) make it so that the app is unable to get uninstalled just for that extra measure in case you have times where you're so desperate to get your digital fix that you'd rather just uninstall the app instead of waiting for the limit to reset. (<-definitely have had that happened to me before.)
there are multiple Firefox add-ons with the same function. LeechBlock was what i used back when i still had a laptop (lol rip in peace). as far as i remember it worked similarly to Wverlaek's Block with both the daily limit and hourly limit features available.
anyway, endless scrolling can definitely be dangerous (no hyperbole; just look at all effects of doom scrolling, majorly sponsored by endless scrolling) and it's preferable that it's an optional feature. but until all sites and apps actually implement a toggle to turn it on/off, then i'd highly suggest at least giving app limits a try.
p.s. thowwy apple users i got nothing for you.
