Being prepared means physically showing up on time, at the appropriate location wearing appropriate attire. Mentally, being prepared means to have knowledge of the appropriate concepts that are necessary for success in the respective lecture/lab/activity. So how do you come prepared? First of all, be receptive. Everyone always knows what’s going on, because things go around! Ask yourself, are you involved enough? Another thing, is to check your emails. For example, our professors usually send us emails about what exactly they expect from us. Be sure to stay on top of your schedule, and plan in advance! Thank you so much to @lilacpaper for sending me this adorable personalized planner book that is customized especially for us dental girls (and boys..)!! 💕🦷👩🏼‍⚕️✨ It’s so cute and I love that I can write down not just due dates and deadlines, but notes and little diary entries and everything a girl could ever want to write!! Bright and early in the bench lab ☀️ During my time in undergrad, I mentally established that most of the subjects I was taking were essentially time consuming, unnecessary roadblocks that I needed to surpass… 🤷🏼‍♀️ I accepted this, and decided to apply myself and actually learn something..rather than feel sorry for myself and sulk about it.💁🏼‍♀️ With labs in undergrad, I never reached this level of acceptance.🤦🏼‍♀️🤣 I hated labs so much that I was always the first one out.🧪🔬🧫 I just found labs boring!—especially organic chemistry lab, simply because I would be so bored of standing there for hours, waiting for things to distill, crystallize or condense...(cringing at the memory). My my have the tables turned!! In dental school, I am finding myself excited to go to lab. I never feel tempted to finish early, or be the first one out. In fact, when I’m in lab I don’t even check the time ever, and I don’t notice as the time passes by. I love the bench lab because we have such dedicated, supportive and knowledgeable professors who help us along the way, and create such a positive and reassuring environment for the students. Sometimes the professors are strict and critical of our work, but I appreciate this very much, because this pushes us to come prepared, improve our techniques and supercede expectations. Cute photo right? WRONG. ❌🚫 While these hard candies 🍭 seem harmless, eat too many and the constant exposure to sugar can be harmful to your teeth!🦷 Sugar is bacteria’s favorite food in the mouth 🦠👄 As the harmful bacteria eat away at the sugar, they simultaneously release an enamel-stripping acid, which can cause plaque, which can later transform into a hardened tartar. Both of these substances are difficult to remove and allow the bacteria to continue to decay the teeth. Once the enamel is stripped away it doesn’t take long for cavities to form. . Hard candy is the worst, because they last a long time, giving the harmful bacteria plenty of opportunities to release their enamel-eating acid. Hard candies also put your teeth at risk because in addition to being full of sugar, they can also trigger a dental emergency such as a broken or chipped tooth. How silly would it be to break your tooth chewing on a lollypop? . So how can you minimize the impact of candy on your teeth? it’s best to rinse your mouth with water immediately after eating a sugary lollipop, then after 30 minutes you should brush your teeth. You should not brush your teeth immediately after having hard candy because this may actually cause the sugar to penetrate the deeper crevices of your teeth. . So what are the alternatives to hard candies? Sugar free gum, ice breaker cubes and sugar free lollipops are going to be your best friend, because they stimulate saliva production which helps break down the harmful bacteria in your mouth! Hey guys! I am getting ready for my tooth anatomy midterm! I wanted to share a few useful tips for studying to help you all ace your big exams!! 𝗡𝗢 𝗖𝗥𝗔𝗠𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗚 🚫📝📚🥴 My first and most important tip is to not cram. Generally, it’s better to study notes right after every single class...But I realize that in the perfect world, we are busy and it’s hard to always keep up, even though that’s actually the best way. Definitely work hard at reviewing notes the week before the exam. Basically, study for a week before the exam. 𝗖𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗘 🌟🤸🏽‍♂️🏢🔬🧬 Another important tip is to collaborate. Let me begin by saying, you’re not in undergrad anymore...you’re not competing with anyone to get into a professional school. Everybody is trying to do the same thing here, which is pass and become dentists 😹🙌🏼 𝗦𝗧𝗨𝗗𝗬 𝗦𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗧🤓📓📆✏️ OK, finally, be mindful of your study habits. What works for you and what doesn’t? You should figure this out before dental school even starts, because they’re going to bombard you with exams very quick into the semester and its going to be a lot of info. You need to know how to study smart. Remember, it’s not so much quantity as it is quality when it comes to studying in professional (dental) school. Do flashcards help you? Is reviewing notes just fine for you? Do you need to attend a lecture every day to understand the material? do you work better studying in groups or by yourself? Just some questions to guide you... Hello predental students! I wanted to share some advice for the DAT, as someone who took the DAT just last year, and am now attending my dream dental school (NYU)! I am sure that just about now, MANY of you are studying to take this test over the spring and summer months, before dental school applications begin. We put so much of our hearts and souls into this exam, we ingrain into our minds that our score will ultimately define the extent of our knowledge, and determine our entire future. We push ourselves to our limits and extremes, at the expense of our mental and physical wellbeing, until inevitably at a certain point, we exhaust all our strength and burn out. Here is a mixture of study and wellness tips, based on my own experiences, to hopefully help you along your journey through the DAT!
