sky's review of the bt-16 prerelease event
card game: good
community: good
i'm passing out now
(or: ouahghgghgh very fun format but dear god trying to navigate my FLGS with my disability was hard for non-accessibility related reasons, i am just in a lot of pain for no good reason)
my silly little deck was fun and i am obliged to make an imperialdramon deck, as well as a magna x-anti (i pulled both, though with IPDmon i pulled DM and FM, as well as a paildramon or two)

What’s the last set that you’ve kept up with story wise in mtg
I've been out of the loop on this for a long time so the last one was Theros Beyond Death

College is ass why does not wanting to drink/be around people who are drinking immediately eviscerate my ability to interact with my own friends. I’ve been alone in my dorm for three hours experiencing Crippling Loneliness

Hello mark!
I had a great time at bloomburrow prerelease. I ended up scribbling a bunch of bad looking rabbits on a notepad for my tokens (which was a hit) but i would definitely love to see more ways of getting tokens for events like this (I liked the other asker's suggestion of stores themselves getting tokens to distribute out but i definitely don't know enough about how products get sent out to offer any other ideas, lol).
The art was really charming! If i may ask, how much of the art direction is decided by the team versus the artist's intuition? like, the color choices, form/shape language, that sort of thing.
Artists get an art description, which spells out some things (usually to keep the world cohesive), but everything else is left to the artist’s discretion.

you talk about MTG now and again but I don't think I've ever seen you mention what decks/archetypes you like to play!! Or formats and what have you, so I'm curious! I like aggro and (simple) combo decks and tempo. Do you have a favorite card of all time? (mine's Lightning Bolt)
i mostly play commander [audience boos and throws tomatoes at me] but i like playing sealed at prerelease events and i knock out a couple standard games on MTGA sometimes.
in edh the kinds of commanders i like are ones with a stupid gimmick that let me create bumpos palace of tricks. shit like the celestial toymaker, zedruu, mr. house, obeka... i just love having one particularly silly mechanic to focus on and build a rube goldberb contraption of a deck that leverages doing something usually pointless or inane into a value engine. i also love alternate wincons and have two decks built entirely around winning with an alternate wincon that's not popular or good--a vorel deck entirely based around the millennium calendar and an akal pakal deck based around the 'target player loses the game' option on mirrodin besieged.
so overall i'm a combo/control player for sure, i really like being able to interact with the board and having to think really hard about how to chain my pieces together for value. in standard i play mostly dimir control and monoblack midrange for similar reasons. it's hard to think of a favourite card off the top of my head but fact or fiction is definitely up there, i love cards that are their own fun little minigames... prisoner's dilemma from MKM is also a sleeper hit for me for that reason...

Catching up on some Arknights event backlog: A lot of Arknights events have comedy parts to it, very few are 'unfun', but Road to Lake Silberneherze is like. an almost perfect work of action-comedy. I feel like we haven't had one quite on this level since Code of Brawl (this is high praise to both events). Road to Lake Silberneherze literally feels like an action-comedy movie, with some spy/political thriller, you could catch in theaters, maybe not today since Hollywood doesn't make good movies any more, but at some point.
And it does all this while maintaining a strong, strong emotional core, which is really important to me in any Arknights event, but this one in particular since I've been a fan of the Kjerag operators since day one. Literally. Part of Arknights EN prerelease was a 5 star pick ticket, and it was the variety of designs for the operators (Projekt Red, Liskarm, Silence, and of course, Pramanix) that really drew me into the game. Visually, they could not have chosen a better lineup (at release) than those four. And then, following picking Pramanix, SilverAsh was my first 6 star! And extremely helpful in the early game through to today (Mlynar who?). So even thought it took years, from the Kjerag crew being present in release but not in main story, to reach their own event series, it feels so so worth it.
I loved Lake Silberneherze a normal amount.

MTG players of Tumblr.com I require help pretty please
I'm going to a prerelease event for the new set tomorrow, and I believe it is in commander format. I have never played commander. help. Please give me tips or basic advice, just anything so I don't seem completely clueless and embarass myself 🙏🙏🙏
(After reading some comments I realise I may have gotten mixed up with "most people here play commander" and "theres a pre-release event" and fused the two together, it might not be a commander event, but either way tips are appreciated 😭)
