Ag Iniúchadh ar Sheirbhísí Cigireachta Réadmhaoine i nDroichead Rochfort
Is céim ríthábhachtach i bpróiseas idirbheartaíochta eastáit réadaigh iad cigireachtaí réadmhaoine, a chinntiú go dtuigeann ceannaitheoirí agus díoltóirí riocht maoine sula dtéann siad ar aghaidh le díol. I nDroichead Rochfort, cuireann seirbhísí gairmiúla ar nós suirbhéanna struchtúracha agus cigireachtaí foirgníochta cosaint ar infheistíochtaí agus síocháin intinne a sholáthar.
Tábhacht Suirbhé Struchtúrach Críochnúil
Nuair a bhíonn ceannach aon réadmhaoine á mheas, tá suirbhé struchtúrach críochnúil ríthábhachtach. Déanann an measúnacht mhionsonraithe seo meastóireacht ar neart agus cobhsaíocht bhonnádúir agus comhpháirteanna struchtúracha foirgnimh. Ní hamháin go n-aithníonn suirbhé struchtúrach críochnúil fadhbanna féideartha a d'fhéadfadh costais shuntasacha deisiúcháin a bheith mar thoradh orthu, ach cuidíonn sé freisin le cinntí eolasacha a dhéanamh faoi leanúint ar aghaidh le ceannach réadmhaoine. Trí gach rud ón díon go dtí an íoslach a mheas, is féidir le ceannaitheoirí tí ionchasacha costais gan choinne a sheachaint agus a chinntiú go bhfuil an réadmhaoin sábháilte agus fuaime.
Cé Mhéad a Chosnaíonn Suirbhé Tí?
Ceann de na chéad cheisteanna a bhíonn ag go leor ceannaitheoirí ionchasacha ná faoi chostas suirbhéir tí. Is féidir leis an gcostas athrú go mór ag brath ar roinnt fachtóirí, lena n-áirítear méid na réadmhaoine, a haois, agus doimhneacht an tsuirbhé atá ag teastáil. I nDroichead Rochfort, cabhraíonn tuiscint a fháil ar na costais seo roimh ré le ceannaitheoirí buiséad a phleanáil i gceart don tseirbhís riachtanach seo. Is féidir le hinfheistíocht i suirbhé réadmhaoine iontaofa airgead a shábháil sa deireadh trí dheisiúcháin chostasacha a d'fhéadfadh dul gan faoi deara gan measúnú gairmiúil.
Buntáistí Suirbhé Foirgníochta
Níos faide ná ionracas struchtúrach, téann suirbhé foirgneamh isteach i réimsí criticiúla eile mar chórais leictreacha, pluiméireacht, insliú, agus fadhbanna féideartha lotnaidí. Cinntíonn an seiceáil chuimsitheach seo go bhfuil gach gné den réadmhaoin suas go caighdeán agus go gcomhlíonann sé rialacháin áitiúla tógála. Do dhuine ar bith atá ag iarraidh ceannach i nDroichead Rochfort, cuireann suirbhé foirgníochta sraith slándála ar fáil, ag cinntiú nach bhfuil fadhbanna ceilte sa réadmhaoin a d'fhéadfadh tinneas cinn a chur ar chúrsaí amach anseo.
Cibé an bhfuil tú ag ceannach do chéad tí nó ag cur le do phunann réadmhaoine, tá sé ríthábhachtach tuiscint iomlán a fháil ar an méid atá á cheannach agat. Ag Conspect Engineering & Fuinneamh In-athnuaite, cuirimid cigireachtaí agus suirbhéanna mionsonraithe ar fáil chun a chinntiú go bhfuil gach eolas atá uait agat chun infheistíocht shlán a dhéanamh. Leis an saineolas atá againn i suirbhéanna struchtúracha agus foirgníochta, is féidir leat bogadh isteach i do réadmhaoin nua i nDroichead Rochfort le muinín, agus a fhios agat go bhfuil gach mionsonra seiceáilte go cúramach.

I'm always thinking about how G— was an engineer. A damn good one: the sole engineer of the cryo project, good enough that of all the ten billion, the FTL project chose him to inspect their work, back when the project was still a pipe dream. He was a man from an immigrant family in an underprivileged area who became arguably the world's best engineer, which is impressive in its own right, but it gets me thinking... Pre-Resurrection, John says they can't grow food on Mars (and for all John's unreliability, that's pretty believable, given that the high perchlorate concentration in Martian soil is one of the big obstacles to carrying out a sustained Mars mission), and as silly as this might sound, the engineer and scientist divide is real, and of all the nerds that John resurrected, I can't imagine it was the artist or the contract lawyer or the medical and chemistry experts that made the Mars installation viable. Gideon made a House out of it, and one that accepts recruits from across the Dominican system! "Saint of Duty" is said to fit him, evident in his loyalty and commitment to the Cohort and fighting the Resurrection Beasts, but I have to wonder, how much of that was his commitment to making shit work? I can't shake the image of a couple million people awaking to a ruined world, and someone had to get the other Houses settled, figure out spacecraft and space habitats using what little supplies they have left, and what better candidate for that than the man who canonically engineered spacecraft twice?
ANON I love this so much. You're SO right, and you put into words something about G1deon and John's shared background that I've tried to articulate for a while. In the very first chapter, John says, "It wasn’t that they didn’t have the money for a bigger team; we were simply the only ones capable of what they were asking."
This was an incredibly elite team. They were a brilliant bunch of hyperspecialised nerds. And, like, among John's squad, A- and M- and everyone else started out as colleagues — very smart people he probably met in academic circles, where being smart was kind of a prerequisite. It was their research that brought them together to begin with.
G1deon, though! He was John's friend growing up. John knew his grandparents. They spotted each other spare changes for snacks!! Then John went on to Dilworth, then to university and then overseas, and G1deon had his own (probably different) academic path, and maybe they only stayed vaguely in touch, but when it was time to look for an engineer that could help them build spaceships constructed to provide life support to the whole of humanity for centuries — and G1deon was the guy for that.
The fact that two boys from similar underprivileged backgrounds individually made huge breakthroughs in their chosen fields, and got to work together on a project that was meant to save the world... I bet at the time it felt like a miraculous coincidence. I think they thought, if they'd made it that far, that they could do anything.
(yet another layer to the tragedy of what happened etc etc. G1deon torn between John and P—. John stopping G1deon's heart)
Thank you so much for all your thoughts about the Mars space installation, also — I wonder how long there was between Mars becoming the Second House (founded by G1deon! he and Pyrrha did the bulk of the work!) and the institution of the Third House, which doesn't have a named founder and might very well have been a shared project built on the blueprint of what G1deon set up. "the man who canonically engineered spacecraft twice" — my god I love this so much. It's G1deon emo hours today
#this ask PUNCHED ME IN THE GUTS ty for my life#g1deon#gideon the first#tlt thoughts#ntn#ask#anonymous#tlt#tlt meta#ONE THING though is that I don't think we're meant to interpret G1deon as being from an immigrant family but rather native#it's not spelled out in the books so it's all headcanons#but pasifika G— is where I'm at personally

The Great Experiment - Chapter 4
Chapter Title: We'll Meet Again
Norm MacLean x Elodie Brooks (OC) | Pre-War AU
Masterlist | Ao3 | <- Previous Chapter | Next Chapter ->
Word Count: 3.6k
A/N: omg they're finally talking :D
Vaults 31, 32, and 33 were constructed over a period of five years. The base structure was dug out, and filled in with concrete using patented machines that Elodie didn't quite understand. Theyd brought down pre-built portions of the vault, from the Overseer’s office to the Compost room, and assembled them like a three-dimensional puzzle.
The most impressive feat, though, was the four-story atrium, with a built-in Telesonic projector. She stood, watching the team on a lift as they assembled the massive piece of machinery. Her eyes were then drawn to the floor-to-ceiling screens, which were being inspected by a large crew with an even larger scissor lift. It was a wonder that it’d even made it down into Vault 33, but she heard rumors about an equipment elevator somewhere in the maze of hallways. She knew she should be doing her own job, but it was particularly fascinating, and relieving, to slow down and analyze the handiwork of other professions.
It also helped with the simmering anxiety of being down here. After all, this was a place meant to be used after the world had ended, after the bombs had fallen on the surface and rendered it inhabitable. This place wasn’t relieving to her in the slightest, it was a testament to humanity’s undoing.
Not that there was anything she could do to stop it. The best she could do was hope that her efforts for this project earned her a spot on the reservation list.
Elodie held out her clipboard, glancing at the foundation she was tasked to overlay as she compared it to a batch of previous schematics. Technically, she was here to collect measurements for the assembly of a hydroponics system below the floor of the atrium of all three vaults. Her and the other agricultural engineers had theoretically designed a system, yes, but they still had to get the exact measurements so that a design could be more than just that. They had to start producing parts, and machines, and an actual system that could provide for a batch of real, living humans that’d inhabit the vaults during the test run and beyond.
It definitely didn’t help that the Three Vaults Project, or TVP, as it’d come to be known, had a mandatory end-date of August of next year because of this test run. Simultaneously, then, every single project had been given a timeline of just over one year. And, of course, she only learned about this after she signed on, and after she’d arrived in California.
To make matters more annoying, they were incredibly restrictive on who was able to access which Vault. The members of the Agricultural Engineering division were divided into three teams, each assigned to one of the respective vaults. The layout was apparently the same in each Vault, so no one had to repeat any measurements or designs, but it didn’t help the fact that everything had to be relayed through electronic messages and very underpaid interns.
Sigh.
At least she was assigned to Vault 33, which had a beautiful view of the ocean. Once you made it past the Vault door retaining walls, and into the upper levels of the building that shielded them from the elements, the Santa Monica Pier was in full display, and it was definitely relaxing after an extended period of time underground.
It was something to look forward to after all of this work was done, and it was something that could keep her going. Whatever it took to get these files in by tomorrow, she’d indulge.
She moved to the nearby tables, which were an impromptu setup for the underground workers. The kitchens in the diner were the first things to be set up, thanks to their proximity to the atrium. So, the higher-ups decided to break them in by hiring people making lunch and dinner for whomever was working that day. It was also definitely a ploy to eliminate wasted time, as the Vaults themselves were set up a mile from the main TVP campus. Regardless, the smell was intoxicating, but she knew the flavor would be bland in comparison to the farm-grown fruits and vegetables she was used to.
The dwellers that were slated to live here would get to experience that. They were supposed to grow corn in Vault 33, if all of the information she’d been given was correct. Every agricultural system revolved around high levels of corn production. She’d designed them, though, to allow the assigned Hydroponics Engineer to easily alter the solution’s properties if needed.
Hopefully, the board would actually approve that measure. People couldn’t just eat corn. Sure, they didn’t have to worry about the nuances of soil chemistry when the chemistry was all controlled by dials and pumps injecting concentrates into water. They’d need a balanced diet, not just for health, but because the people themselves needed more. Living in a vault, only eating synthesized foods and corn, would be hellish. They needed variety, like tomatoes, and herbs, and fruits.
She laid her clipboard in front of her, flipping to a page and adding raspberries to the ever-growing list of seeds to recommend for the Seed Vault. If she was stuck underground for an unknown amount of years, possibly even her whole life, she’d want raspberries. It’d help with the existential dread of being trapped under a hundred feet of dirt and rock.
“What are you doing out of the lab?”
Her muscles tensed as she whirled around in her seat, nearly slamming her knees into the bench she was sitting on as she locked eyes with-
“Norm, stop doing that! You’re going to give me a heart attack!”
“That’s statistically unlikely,” he said, raising an eyebrow at her and faintly smiling. “How’s your day been?”
She looked him over. He had a cafeteria tray in his hands, and had on a typical set of dress clothes. Striped shirt, striped tie, and striped pants. The patterns were faint enough on the former and latter so that the middle stood out, and everything looked fairly cohesive. He’d even worn Vault Tec colors, but she wasn’t sure if that was intentional or not. Or, maybe it was standard attire for the men. Most seemed to wear a blue or yellow tie when possible, and Norm seemed fond of wearing one that contained both.
“Bleak,” she replied, clasping her clipboard to her chest. “If I don’t get this done quick, we have no chance of actually completing the agricultural setup in time.”
“You’ll get it done.”
“Because I have to.”
“And because you’re good at your job.”
“How do you know that? We’re in different departments. Fields. Specialties.”
“Got it. Last time I compliment you,” he said, scoffing. She could tell he was joking, even if they’d only been talking for a month, with how his eyebrows raised and his face faintly lit up.
“Can I sit?”
Her eyebrows raised as well, and she nodded before her mouth even formed words.
“Oh, yeah. Yeah, sure!”
She pulled the clipboard closer to her side of the table as he took a seat and set down his tray. On it, there was some fried Cram, mashed potatoes, and green beans, which made Elodie grimace. Of course they'd push the ‘Vault Menu’ right away. They had to make sure it was fully capable of only making post-apocalyptic meals, or else it’d all be for naught.
“You drew those?”
He was pointing at her clipboard, and she nodded in response.
“Kinda,” she mumbled. “I designed the pipe system and the nutrient mixture. A couple others designed the actual pumps and soil mixtures. Someone’s even building a tractor, for some reason. Executives probably told them to, I guess. Might save five dollars.”
“It’s amusing to think of why our superiors do what they do,” he said, “For example, why do they give us a free cafeteria but no health insurance?”
“It’s probably cheaper,” she replied, looking back to her clipboard, then eyeing his tray again. She was hungry, now that she thought about it. “It’s cheaper to give us good food, I guess, because it helps us stay healthy. I’d like to get my eyes checked without shelling out a thousand dollars, though.”
“Everything has to be cheaper, that’s the Vault-Tec way.”
“Don’t say that so loud,” she said, furrowing her brows. “Someone might hear!”
“At this point, they can’t fire us. Plus, my dad would never let them fire me. And, he likes you, so you’re probably safe too.”
As if to accentuate his words, Norm placed an elbow on the table, resting his head against his palm as he looked at her.
“Is that why you’re slacking off? Because your dad can bail you out?”
“I’m not slacking off,” he said, rolling his eyes. “I was on my way upstairs. To the surface. I have to pick up a motherboard because our intern broke one. Then, I got hungry.”
“Ah,” she said, nodding. “The food doesn’t look bad.”
Curiously, he hadn’t eaten any of it yet.
“You should go get some before they run out,” he said, motioning towards the diner’s open doors with his chin.
“I doubt they will,” she replied. “And, I have work to do.
“Go eat, Elodie. Can’t work on an empty stomach.”
“Fine.”
Elodie sighed as she stood up from the table, walking over to the diner. She swiped her ID against the scanner, then grabbed a tray. He wasn’t wrong, since her rumbling stomach had only gotten worse the longer she stared at his untouched food and smelt the spices wafting over to her nostrils. And, she couldn’t deny that the fried Cram, regardless of the fact that they could have made something far healthier, looked absolutely delicious.
She was glad, at least, she didn't have to eat lunch alone. In fact, Norm had willingly sought her out, quite a contrast to the hazy memories of their elementary school days. Back then, Norm was a typical loner, not that he wanted anything different. He’d sit on the end of a table, without much care for socializing, and Elodie would slip into the seat across from him. They’d chat, talk, and go back to their homerooms, meeting up after school to walk home together.
Rose often walked with them, if Elodie’s own mother wasn’t available. She was a sweet woman, and Elodie could see the features she’d passed to Norm and Lucy. Neither of them really resembled Hank, but their eyes were a dead giveaway of their relation to Rose.
“Food smells really good,” she said, placing her tray down right atop her clipboard.
Norm still hadn’t eaten anything, but picked up his fork the second that she’d sat down. She followed suit, cutting a piece of the fried Cram off and biting it off the fork.
“Mm… mm!”
He nodded in response, quickly taking another bite. She chuckled to herself, taking a sip of the Nuka-Cola she’d snagged for herself.
“It's good,” he said, eyes flickering up to hers. “Better than school lunch.”
“I was just thinking about that,” she said, feeling her face flush. “We’d trade the pieces of our meals around. You always wanted my carrots.”
“Because I gave you apple slices.”
“God, I’d love some apple slices right now,” she said, grinning mischievously as she popped another slice of Cram into her mouth. “Why can’t this be an apple orchard instead of a corn farm?”
“I dunno. You’re the plant person.”
“I am. And it’s because corn starch is pretty versatile, when I think about it. Apple trees are also way more complex to support with hydroponics. I just want an apple now, though.”
“You can get one when we’re back on the surface.”
“Yeah,” she said, sighing softly. “They don’t even have apple juice down here. It’s a crime.”
“The Nuka-Cola sponsorship was too lucrative.”
She laughed, letting out a soft snort before she covered her mouth in surprise.
“Are you always this skeptical of the company that pays your bills? That’s saving America from nuclear war?”
She briefly felt anxiety spike at the thought, even if it was self-induced. For all she knew, the bombs could have dropped on the surface already, with no warning. They’d have to scavenge whatever they could in the barely assembled shell of a vault they currently found themselves in.
Norm cleared his throat, and her attention shifted back to him.
“It’s always good to be skeptical,” he said. “Just, only in the right company.”
“I’m the right company?”
“You don’t want me fired. At least that’s my assumption.”
“Why would I want you to be? You’re funny, and, most importantly, you do your job.”
“I don’t have enthusiasm for it, according to Betty. She’s like, my personal HR manager, or something,” he said, sighing as he pushed the green beans around with his fork. “I get called into performance reviews every three months. Each time, I get told I lack enthusiasm. It’s hard to be enthusiastic about building vaults where only a few people can survive.”
Elodie nodded. He had a point, and she agreed with it. But, she couldn’t just air out her grievances when surrounded by a slew of other employees.
“I… don’t disagree. I wish we could help more people, but I’m happy to help who I can,” she said. “Besides, at this point, there’s not many jobs doing anything else. Unless you want to work food service-”
“No. I worked at the dining hall in VTU. Never again.”
“When did you do that?”
“The last two years I was there,” he grimaced, taking a quick swig of his own Nuka-Cola. “I lost my scholarship when I dropped out of the Overseer program, so it was the only money I had. Life is tricky like that.”
“I see,” she said, nodding despite her frown. “I didn't know you wanted to be an Overseer.”
“I didn’t,” he grumbled, clearly getting a bit agitated. Elodie felt her heart sink, but Norm kept talking. “My dad wanted me to be one. Lucy had already graduated from the program.”
“That sucks,” she replied. “I… well, on the bright side, maybe you served me dinner at some point.”
“Probably,” he said, face softening a bit. “When did you go?”
“Around the same time as you, most likely, but for four years. Had to actually do some research for my doctorate. I started in 2071, graduated in ‘75.”
“I graduated in ‘74.”
“Small world,” she said, chuckling a bit. “We probably crossed paths and didn't even know it.”
“It’s likely. But the campus was always packed.”
“I wonder if we ever took a monorail together.”
“That would be an extreme coincidence. Those only fit four people, maximum.”
“It’s fun to think about, though,” she grinned. “Maybe we were always crossing paths, but were meant to meet again here. If it happened back then, maybe we’d hate each other.”
“Bold to assume I don’t hate you now.”
“You do?”
“No.”
“Exactly!”
The two continued chatting back and forth, and Elodie found a sense of joy in actually getting to know each other again. They’d had conversations before, yes, but they were mostly superficial, about each other's days and vaguely catching up. But now… now they were bonding over how stupid the fraternities were at VTU, or about how the Vault-Boy statue always ended up covered in graffiti and underwear after football games. It was reassuring, to have an actual conversation where she didn’t have to worry about saying the wrong thing or keeping up a good face. She could laugh, and enjoy herself, even if she wasn’t being entirely proper.
Elodie even dared to explain how she’d left an offering at the statue one day, following the superstition that said it’d bring her a semester of good grades. She’d then gone on to elaborate on how her professor had accused her of cheating right after. Norm followed that up with his own story, saying he’d done the same and a pigeon instantly stole the piece of muffin he’d left. Nuka-Cola nearly shot out of her nose from laughter, and she proceeded to whine about how her nostrils were burning.
As their meals wrapped up, Norm was the first to stand, holding out a hand to Elodie.
“I’ll take your tray over.”
“You really don't have to, Norm.”
“I’m already going there.”
“Fine.”
She huffed, holding out the tray to him. Much to her dismay, though, she found that the tray she’d grabbed was fresh from the washer. And so, the top paper on her clipboard had stuck to it, with enough water having accumulated on the bottom of her tray to soak through the rest of the pages. When she’d raised her tray, a few sheets ripped off with a pathetic noise, accompanied by the pitter-pattering of the clipboard falling back to the table. She flipped through a few of them, groaning in annoyance as she realized they were all ruined. Every note, everything she’d done so far today, ruined.
Norm had quickly disappeared from her side, only to return a few moments later, sans their lunch trays. Either he sprinted over, or her fixation on the splotches of ink were making time pass even faster than usual. Both were believable at this point.
“Are you okay, El?”
“No,” she said, unclipping all the papers and balling them up. “I have to go to the surface. Aboveground. Back to campus. Whatever. To get more copies of these plans. God, I’m so stupid.”
“You’re not,” he said, taking the wad of papers and gently unfurling them. “These are still readable.”
“They’re not presentable. I need to redo them,” she groaned, taking the ball of papers from his hand and shoving them into her messenger bag. “You’re not getting rid of me yet, it seems. Sorry about that.”
“I don’t mind the company.”
“You sure? I feel like you’re the type who’d want to ride the elevator and bus alone.”
“I do, but I can make exceptions.”
Elodie felt her face flush, but not out of anger, or annoyance at her situation.
“Well, ah,” she stammered, grabbing her clipboard. “I don’t want to waste any more of your time, then.”
He opened his mouth as if to say something, but instead, he sighed and grabbed his own bag.
“Where do you have to go?”
“The IT office,” he replied. “I have a stash of motherboards, and a bunch of other spare parts. Good quality ones. If you ever break something, you can email me.”
“Noted. You’re my personal IT man anyways.”
“Just don't call too often. I have actual things I have to do.”
“Me too. It’ll work out.”
They turned to the elevator, which was set up fairly close to the makeshift cafeteria. Norm swiped his access card over the scanner, and the door opened. He put his arm over the door, motioning for her to step inside.
She sighed, pressing the button that would bring them to the vault’s entrance. The doors slid shut, and the elevator rumbled.
“Are other people bad? At their IT jobs?”
The question lingered in the air, something she was far too curious about to simply forget. Plus, if he took the bait…
“No,” he said. “Well, maybe.”
Bingo. Three points were added to her mood meter.
“You’re being cocky.”
“Am not.”
“Are too!”
She snickered to herself as the elevator began to rise, and Norm clicked his tongue in annoyance.
“You’re being annoying.”
“Ah, you do hate me!”
“Right now, maybe I do.”
She laughed again, and noticed the faintest redness on his cheeks. Hell, he was even smiling, a nonchalant smirk as he leaned against the railing around the perimeter of the elevator.
“If you’re mad at me, then I’ll never call you for IT help.”
“Good. I hope your computer breaks. And your plants die.”
Elodie snorted again, covering her mouth as she braced herself against the railing.
“That’s so mean!”
“Mm. I told you, I'd never compliment you again.”
“Fine. We’ll just sit in silence the whole elevator ride then. All two minutes!”
“Okay.”
The ride was silent for half of the time, but Elodie quickly began to giggle as they approached the surface. Norm didn’t crack, which just made Elodie laugh more, and she didn't stop giggling until the sunlight hit their faces, and he finally spoke up.
“Don’t trip when you’re getting on the bus.”
“Hey!”
“It’s a fair warning.”
“Fine. Well, make sure you don’t trip either. Or I’ll trip you again.”
“Rude, Elodie.”
They boarded the bus back, teasing each other back and forth throughout the short ride. It was a relief, honestly, from the stress of having to redo everything. They’d even walked together to her building, which was on the way to his.
They stood in front of each other as she grinned, noting how his face was still slightly flushed.
“See you around, Norm.”
He smiled back, cheeks faintly red.
“Bye, Elodie.”
She had no idea why she was practically skipping into her office, but she wasn't about to argue with it. It was annoying to reprint all of the paperwork, and it was annoying to ride the bus back, and sign back into the Vault and get verified. It was tedious as hell to take all of her measurements again, but hey, getting the same number twice was always a good sign.
At the end of the day, she made her way back to her cubicle, and curiously…
There was a bag of apple slices placed onto the surface, with a small note attached.
Found them in the IT building’s cafe. Figured you’d want some.
-Norm
Now that… that made her whole week absolutely perfect. It didn’t matter how many times she had to redraw the same schematic, or explain to her non-scientific bosses why certain things were crucial when growing plants. She did it all with a smile on her face, and a tingling feeling in her body.
Strange.

<<Chapter 36
⚔️ 🏰
As promised by Waya the morning brought the arrival of 400 warriors, both men and women, from the Oklahoma tribes. All were on horseback and brought both bow and arrow, and carbines. Buchanan looked at the one held by Waya and raised his eyebrow. The Cherokee chief smiled.
"We found munitions storage for several armed forces bases from pre-calamity," he said. "Thousands of rifles and enough rounds to last many lifetimes, all in excellent condition. I must say I do admire your pistols and was surprised to see your people had been able to produce them."
"They are the design of Queen Peg," said Buchanan. "Very accurate and easy to load. Your rifles will be needed as the lawless ones are said to be heavily armed with advanced firearms."
"Then let me and my warriors handle them," said Waya. "They peddle deadly poisons that make their way even into our wilderness. We have our own vendetta against them."
Buchanan nodded and looked around making sure all of his warriors were mounted. The banners were unfurled, including one seemingly made overnight for Waya and his warriors. Their banner had a red-tailed hawk flying in the sky to symbolize their nation. Satisfied that all were ready Buchanan gave the order to move out and the army took to the prairie going south west. They rode all day with one stop to rest and water the horses then continued on almost until nightfall. Several of Waya's warriors as well as a few of Sir Archer's bowmen and women went out hunting, coming back with rabbits by the dozens, gutting and skinning them to roast over the fires. Sir Archer himself approached Chief Waya, requesting a look at the construction of his bow, offering his in return for Waya's inspection. Both men found things to like with the other's weapon and promised to talk over ways to integrate the best of both their weapon craft into building a better bow. As soldiers often do over campfires there began to be the telling of tales about the old battles, old wars, and worthy adversaries. Buchanan was thankful, for those moments helped with the camaraderie of the soldiers.
At his campfire he called on the commanders, sub-commanders and Quin to speak of the following day's ride. Waya unrolled a leather map, showing much more detail than any other map they had seen. They would enter the northern part of the Western Plains kingdom around noon and be on the lookout for any building marked with King David's mark as well as Lord Fury's mark. Those were supposed to have one of Fury’s men with radios in them. Buchanan asked all the commanders to call out immediately if they spotted one of those places. It was hoped that there would also be more information about where they would be most needed on their arrival. After bidding them goodnight Buchanan and Quin laid on their bedrolls facing the fire. Quin seemed pensive so Buchanan sat up to allow the young man to speak freely.
"What is it, Quin?" asked Buchanan. "Anticipation? Fear? Anxiety? Or all of the above?"
"All of them," replied the young prince. "I have doubts about my worthiness."
"Don't," said Buchanan. "You are ready for this. Your speech to the council proved that. You honoured your ancestors and defended your right to ask for assistance. When we join the battle I have no doubt your soldier's instincts will kick in. For you are a soldier, Quin Torres, through and through. You have a warrior's heart."
"Then I will try to honour my ancestors," said Quin. "More importantly I will act like the man my father always wanted me to be."
"That is all any man can do," said Buchanan. "Now get some sleep. You were up late dancing last night."
Quin looked somewhat embarrassed, even in the firelight. "I just got caught up in it," he said. "It felt ... right."
"Then it was," said Buchanan. "Good night."
Buchanan rolled away from the fire while Quin regarded him for a few more minutes before burrowing into his bedroll and turning away. Before he closed his eyes he looked for the North Star and found it. Then he thought of Isabella and fell asleep dreaming of her.
Before the sun broke the horizon, the entire company was up, dousing their fires and rolling up their bedrolls. Breakfast would be rations pulled from their saddle bags eaten while in the saddle. They had many miles to go in a hot sun as there wasn't a sign of a cloud in the sky. At the first river Buchanan signalled a quick stop to fill their canteens and water the horses. He looked around the arid landscape and thought of how similar it was in feel to the Holy Lands, if not the same look. Upon his return from there he had vowed never to travel in such a landscape again and yet here he was. Still, there were more trees here than in that embattled land, a sign that things could still grow. Breaking out of his reverie he looked around, noticing that everyone was mounted so he gave the order to move out. They settled on a steady but maintainable pace, riding for hours before coming to a river. Chief Waya was familiar with it and indicated they would have to go several miles north to cross it in relative shallows. Buchanan gave the order to water the horses and fill canteens, as they grabbed more rations from their saddlebags. Thirty minutes later Waya and his warriors began leading the way to the crossing. He crossed first and although the water came up to his horse's belly he confirmed the current wasn't too strong. After his company went over, Heimdall crossed with his contingent, then Bren and finally Coulson's. Waya suggested letting the horses have an easy walking pace for a time to rest their legs after the exertion in the river. One of his more eagle-eyed warriors spotted a building in the distance. Buchanan asked if he would look for identifying marks on it. He rode forward for some time then came back indicating that it was one of the buildings with a radio and the company made straight for it. As Buchanan approached closer with Quin a dark-skinned man in black appeared at the door with a crossbow ready to be fired. Buchanan halted the company and approached with his right hand raised, the palm facing the man. He looked at Quin to see if he recognized the man but he didn't.
"I am Lord Buchanan and this is the army raised by Prince Arthur," he said. "Are you Lord Fury's man?"
"What token did you give Lord Fury for the messenger falcon?" he asked.
"My father's ring, which I had worn since his death and it is on my hand again," said Buchanan, turning his right hand to show the ring.
The cross bow was lowered and the man beckoned Buchanan and Quin inside. "I am Aaron," he said. "The latest news from the palace at Amarillo is that they broke the siege and destroyed the trebuchets. The fighting now extends around the wall that surrounds the palace. There is also a force of lawless ones at Lubbock which has besieged the garrison there and prevented them from going to the palace's aid. Lord Fury wishes you to concentrate your forces at Amarillo. Once they contain the enemy there they can regroup and charge on Lubbock."
"We have more warriors than we originally pledged," said Buchanan. "The extra warriors have their own vendetta against the lawless ones and I am inclined to let them go to Lubbock on their own. Will you radio them that we are sending 400 warriors from the Oklahoma tribes there."
The radio operator sent the message, receiving the confirmation it had been acknowledged. Buchanan went outside and called Waya, giving him the order to advance on the lawless ones in Lubbock then to rejoin the main force at Amarillo. The Cherokee chief smiled broadly at him.
"You expect my warriors to be successful against them?" he asked.
"I do," said Buchanan. "You have already raised my expectations about the quality of your company. I give you the opportunity to prove it. If you require help send a rider to the palace. But I expect to see most of your warriors join us soon."
Waya gave out a war cry and started for Lubbock, joined by his warriors. Buchanan told the radio operator that his main group would continue to the palace, less than a half day's ride. Mounting his horse he gave the signal and they began a steady pace towards Amarillo. Two hours later they encountered another marked building. The operator here flagged them down, already notified they were en route.
"Lord Buchanan?" he asked. "I was told you were on your way. The fighting has increased at Amarillo. Lord Fury advised that you come from the east and find the path of old railway tracks, ribbons of steel pounded into the ground. It is a broken path but you should know it when you see it, less than an hour from here. It will lead you directly to the palace."
The man pointed in the direction they needed to go and Buchanan saluted him then prodded Magnus to proceed. As the man predicted they found the path and followed it to the southwest. Eventually they saw the columns of smoke from the still burning trebuchets and began to increase their pace. A rider carrying King David's banner raced out to them and without lessening his pace joined up with Buchanan. He looked at Quin and nodded at him.
"Your Highness, Lord Buchanan," he said as he rode alongside them. "Lord Fury requests that you split your company into three, sending one to the north of the palace, one straight ahead and one to the left flank. All can engage the enemy as soon as they approach. You two are requested to come with me. Your archers can come with us and provide coverage from the safety of the palace battlements."
Buchanan called for Bren, Coulson, and Heimdall passing on the orders he had been given. All three commanders nodded their acknowledgement and rode off to organize their companies. He called on Archer to keep his bowmen and bow-women riding to the palace. The King's rider then bade the smaller party follow him, leading them to a tunnel that came out near the palace. They skirted most of the fighting although both Quin, Buchanan and several archers drew their swords in order to cut down several of the enemy that harried them. It wasn't until they were inside the palace walls that Quin looked at the blood on his sword then looked at Buchanan.
"I killed," he said simply. "I didn't even have time to think about it."
"You just did it," confirmed Buchanan. "You are a warrior. That's how it is."
They kept riding until they arrived in the courtyard of the palace where grooms waited to take their horses. The archers were sent on to the master bowman, who greeted Sir Archer as an equal, directing that he and his archers take positions on the western battlements. Buchanan and Quin were led into the palace by one of Fury’s aides. The large entry hall was being used to treat the wounded and although busy was not overwhelmed with casualties. The aide led them past the makeshift hospital into the command centre of the central hall where King David, Lord Fury and two other lords were bent over a large map on a table, marked with pieces signifying the different companies and where they were deployed. The ham radio and several regular radios were visible through the doorway to a small adjacent room.
"Father," called Quin and King David looked up, smiled broadly then hugged his son for a long time.
"Quin," he said, stepping back and looking him over. "You've changed, son. I'm not sure what I was expecting but you look well. You carry yourself like a man with more years under your belt. Lord Buchanan, you and your army are a sight for sore eyes. It's true you convinced the Oklahoma tribes to send 400 warriors?"
"It was Quin and Hilda's doing," replied Buchanan, extending his arm to the king and receiving his in return. "They emphasized their ancestral heritage. I sent them to Lubbock as they had previous business to settle with the lawless ones."
"A wise move," said Lord Fury, also extending his arm to Buchanan. "If they can defeat that group they will free up that entire garrison to come and bolster our defences here."
"Father, I wish to return to the battle," said Quin. "I have trained extensively with the men and I promised to stand with them."
"Your Majesty, now that the Prince is here he should stay in the safety of the palace," said one of the other lords, a small sallow man.
Quin bristled at this. "No sir, my place is with my army," he said, his hand on the hilt of his sword. "I have already bloodied my sword just coming from the tunnel to the courtyard."
"I am in agreement with the Prince," said Buchanan. "Our place is with our troops. They rallied around the Prince and need to see him facing the same dangers as them. I will keep him close but both of us need to be on the battlefield. If you could provide us with some young runners to carry messages back and forth that would be sufficient to keep up with your commands."
"I agree," said the King. "Go, but be careful. The battles will cease at sundown and a truce will come into effect to gather the wounded and the dead. At least, that is what was signalled to us by my cousin. Considering he commenced his initial attack before sunrise I wouldn’t trust him to keep his word. Once you have seen to the disposition of your soldiers return here, and we will share a meal and drink together, man to man."
Buchanan and Quin returned to the courtyard, mounted their horses then searched out their three companies, accompanied by three young aides on horseback. They all withdrew their swords to be at the ready and approached Heimdall who was yelling out commands to his troops. As they approached him once again they had to slash at enemy soldiers who charged at them. Quin handled it well and Buchanan hailed the commander.
"My Lord," yelled Heimdall back. "Nothing we can't handle. No deaths yet but a couple of minor injuries."
"Hostilities supposedly cease at sundown," yelled Buchanan. "Then there is an overnight truce to gather the dead and wounded. I'm not sure where you will bivouac but will try to get that information to you." He gestured to one of the aides. “Send this runner to Lord Fury if you require anything.”
"Aye My Lord," nodded Heimdall, glancing at the young man and fixing his appearance in his mind before he returned to the action of his company.
They galloped on and found Coulson's company. Like Heimdall he was in a good position to direct the soldiers under his command and was busy yelling at them, mostly the young recruits, to watch their backs and keep their swords at the ready.
"How goes it with the recruits?" yelled Buchanan above the din.
"Not bad," replied Coulson. "Some trepidation at first but they're getting the hang of it. I see you both have bloodied your swords already. How did Quin do?"
"I did fine, Coulson," laughed Quin. "Your tutelage was the difference. Liam and Edward are alright?"
Coulson pointed in the distance and Quin could see his friends handle themselves well. Buchanan gave him the information about the cessation of hostilities and bowed his head to the commander leaving him yelling at his recruits once more, leaving another runner behind. The final group, situated to the north of the palace, were led by Bren but were having a hard time of it. Both Buchanan and Quin charged into the fray, beating back several of the enemy as they approached the commander. He heard their approach, taking them for a flanking party of the enemy. As he turned towards them with his sword raised high, he recognized them and lowered it with a grin.
"Good thing I chose to come here with the veterans and Queen's Guard," he said. "The fighting is heavier here I believe. We are gaining on them and by sunset should have gained several hundred yards. The fighting ceases at sunset?"
Buchanan nodded, then watched as Bren turned again towards an enemy who attacked him, as if he had eyes in the back of his head. He smiled an evil grin towards the two and charged back in amongst his soldiers, swinging his sword well. The other two stayed with him and when the horns sounded at sunset their swords were dripping with the bloody ichor of many deceased soldiers. They dismounted and wiped their blades on the clothing of the dead, before checking for their own wounded, then remounted their horses. As carts came out to sort the dead and transport the wounded, other riders came out to direct the companies to their billet or bivouac for the night. Buchanan and Quin rode back into the courtyard finding it more chaotic and hectic than their initial arrival. Grooms appeared out of nowhere to take their horses and they strode into the palace to the command room where more lords had also gathered. The King noticed the two enter, nodding to a door at the back. Fury noticed and repeated the gesture. Quin led Buchanan to the door and entered it. Inside was a private room for the king with food, drink and washing stations. Both of them entered and washed up then grabbed a tankard, pouring ale from a tapped cask on a table. After taking a long drink Buchanan looked at Quin appraisingly.
"You did well," he said. "You kept your head. Do the King and Fury always stay in the command room?"
"I guess," said Quin. "There have been skirmishes where they went out together with their men, mostly on sorties with the lawless ones but I wasn't interested enough to know at the time. Why?"
"No reason really, except I believe a commander needs to be on the field and see the battle first hand to direct it," said Buchanan. "The time it takes for a runner to carry information in from the field can make the difference in a battle. That's just me, however."
"I understand your reasoning," said Quin. "It makes sense. I don't like the idea of hiding out in the castle while your men are fighting your battle in the field."
"I'm here in the castle because John Walker sent lawless ones with shooting ability to kill me from afar," said the King who had entered the room long enough to hear the last part of the conversation. "That is the only reason. Outside with the men is where I would rather be. I'm glad you're wearing an ordinary soldier's uniform Quin. That way he doesn't know who you are."
He pointed to his one arm, which both Quin and Buchanan noticed was bulky in appearance compared to his other arm.
"I moved but it meant the bullet hit me in the arm and not the chest," said the King as he went to the table with the beer. "No major damage done, fortunately but the doctor told me to stay away from battle for a little while."
He poured himself ale into a tankard and drained it in one pull. Then he poured another and sat in a chair looking appraisingly at both Buchanan and his son.
"Come, grab some food and eat with your father," he said to Quin. "Tell me everything about the wedding, how your mother and sisters are ... everything."
"Perhaps I should leave you," said Buchanan, starting to rise.
"No, please," said the King, going to the table and loading a plate with food for himself. "Stay. I feel you are as much his father as I have been. More successful than I have been at least. I was a product of my upbringing. A strict disciplinarian for a father who brooked no nonsense, no tears, no foolishness. It made me rigid and unable to bend for the sake of my son. My daughters, have they joined your Queen's Guards yet? My spotters have commented they are excellent fighters, especially their commander. It was her that helped secure the Oklahoma warriors?"
"Aye sir," said Quin, also loading a plate of food. "She is a formidable woman and warrior. As for my sisters, they were impressed with the freedoms granted to women in the Kingdom of the Broken Lands. My mother has allowed them to experience everything and they seem to have come out of their shells. I am sure when my bride begins her Guard company they will want to be part of it."
"Good," replied the King. "Change is necessary for the growth of any kingdom. I believe that completely now. Lord Buchanan, please, help yourself to the food."
Buchanan helped himself to a plate and sat wearily in the chair. Soon they were joined by Lord Fury and the four talked of many things into the late hours. Beds had been supplied for them in the castle but both Buchanan and Quin asked where the men had been billeted wishing to join them. The King gave an aide orders to escort them to their troops and to retrieve their bedrolls. Then he hugged Quin and shook hands with Buchanan before they left. After they left the King looked at Lord Fury and winced as his arm troubled him.
"Look after him, Nicholas," he said. "He will need your guidance when he is king."
"He isn't your son anymore," said the trusted adviser quietly. "He is his own man. Do you think you should have told him about the poison?"
"No, when the pain becomes unbearable I will join them out in the battle," replied the King. "I never thought John would be that evil to poison me from a distance rather than face me one to one. I should have known. He cheated at chess when we were boys and as thick as thieves. That he would try to steal my throne shouldn't surprise me. I will fall in battle like a good king should."
Outside in the dark the aide, carrying a shielded torch, led Quin and Buchanan to a store room where they picked out their bed rolls. He directed them to a spot just outside the castle walls where they saw several small fires burning. A canteen had already been set up and the soldiers had collected their meals sitting on the ground or on logs eating them. Both men walked through talking quietly with the soldiers. When they found Liam and Edward busily eating Quin dropped his bedroll beside them and told Buchanan he would sleep near them. Buchanan went on and found the old warrior Bren, dropping his bedroll beside him.
"One day of battle done and who knows how many more to come," said Buchanan. "Have we truly made a difference?"
"Aye M’Lord," said Bren, in his honest manner. "When this group arrived we were hailed. Even Coulson said the young recruits did well and earned the respect of King David's men."
"Casualties?" asked Buchanan.
"Four dead, 27 injured, 2 of them seriously," replied Bren. "Not bad for a force this size." Bren looked at Buchanan and noticed he seemed troubled. "What is it M’Lord, what troubles you?"
"The King received a bullet wound to his arm but said there was no major damage done," said Buchanan. "Yet he stayed in his command room rather than be out with his soldiers. Placed the reason on his doctor. When I spoke to Fury when he was in our lands he told me that King David always stayed with his troops. Always."
"Perhaps the damage was greater than he let on," said Bren, then he had another thought. "Did he wince often? Were his actions measured?"
"Yes, although he did his best to shield that from our view," said Buchanan, who then sighed. "He's been poisoned and is dying. It can't be stopped. Damn. I knew something was wrong. He insisted I stay with him and Quin while they spoke privately."
"My guess then, sir, is that he will join the battle when the pain becomes too much," said Bren. "He plans to die in battle. That Duke must be a treacherous bastard."
"Aye, he must," said Buchanan. "Alert the troops to keep watch for sharp shooters. If the Duke has done this to the King he must have plans for Quin. I will alert Sir Archer before he ascends the battlement. Perhaps his bowmen can take out those riflemen. I would assume they would already have guards around the perimeter but we must expect that they will always test it to find a way in."
Wearily Buchanan unrolled his bedding, kicked his boots off and covered himself, turning away from Bren. As the older soldier looked at Buchanan's form he had the thought of watching out for him as well. He was a formidable general and would definitely be a target. If he was killed by a sharp shooter it could have a dampening effect on troop morale as well.

From OceanGate's blog: "Why isn't Titan Classed?"
The below is copy/pasted from the official blog. Bolding is my own.
---------------
Most major marine operators require that chartered vessels are “classed” by an independent group such as the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), DNV/GL, Lloyd’s Register, or one of the many others. These groups have assembled very detailed standards for classing everything from oil tankers to auxiliary ship equipment like Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs). Many of these standards are based on industry practice or covered by regulations such as reserve buoyancy, the number of life rafts, the types of materials that can be used on a hull, etc.
Classing assures ship owners, insurers, and regulators that vessels are designed, constructed and inspected to accepted standards. Classing may be effective at filtering out unsatisfactory designers and builders, but the established standards do little to weed out subpar vessel operators – because classing agencies only focus on validating the physical vessel. They do not ensure that operators adhere to proper operating procedures and decision-making processes – two areas that are much more important for mitigating risks at sea. The vast majority of marine (and aviation) accidents are a result of operator error, not mechanical failure. As a result, simply focusing on classing the vessel does not address the operational risks. Maintaining high-level operational safety requires constant, committed effort and a focused corporate culture – two things that OceanGate takes very seriously and that are not assessed during classification.
Innovation and Classing
When OceanGate was founded the goal was to pursue the highest reasonable level of innovation in the design and operation of manned submersibles. By definition, innovation is outside of an already accepted system. However, this does not mean that OceanGate does meet standards where they apply, but it does mean that innovation often falls outside of the existing industry paradigm.
While classing agencies are willing to pursue the certification of new and innovative designs and ideas, they often have a multi-year approval cycle due to a lack of pre-existing standards, especially, for example, in the case of many of OceanGate’s innovations, such as carbon fiber pressure vessels and a real-time (RTM) hull health monitoring system. Bringing an outside entity up to speed on every innovation before it is put into real-world testing is anathema to rapid innovation. For example, Space X, Blue Origin and Virgin Galactic all rely on experienced inside experts to oversee the daily operations, testing, and validation versus bringing in outsiders who need to first be educated before being qualified to ‘validate’ any innovations.
Depth Validating
As an interim step in the path to classification, we are working with a premier classing agency to validate Titan’s dive test plan. A licensed marine surveyor will witness a successful dive to 4000 meters, inspect the vessel before and after the dive, and provide a Statement of Fact attesting to the completion of the dive test plan.
Innovation and Risk Mitigation
In addition to designing and building an innovative carbon fiber hull, our team has also developed and incorporated many other elements and procedures into our operations to mitigate risks.
OceanGate’s submersibles are the only known vessels to use real-time (RTM) hull health monitoring. With this RTM system, we can determine if the hull is compromised well before situations become life-threatening, and safely return to the surface. This innovative safety system is not currently covered by any classing agency.
No other submersible currently utilizes real-time monitoring to monitor hull health during a dive. We want to know why. Classed subs are only required to undergo depth validation every three years, whereas our RTM system validates the integrity of the hull on each and every dive.
Our risk assessment team looks at the entire expedition and completes a detailed, quantified risk assessment for each dive. The risk assessment takes into account 25 specific factors that can influence a dive outcome. Using that information, a dive plan is written to mitigate against these known risks. These risk factors include things like weather forecast, sea state, sub maintenance, crew fatigue, predicted currents, dive site experience, recent dive history, schedule expectations, crew experience, and more. In this assessment, the actual operational risks are almost always concentrated on the surface operations not the subsea performance of the submersible.
Another simple risk mitigation step we take, that we believe to be unique to OceanGate is that we draw a small vacuum on the inside of the sub at the start of each dive. This step verifies the integrity of the low-pressure O-ring seal and eliminates the risk of leaks – a proven problem that even some other classed submersibles experience.
Classing is Not Sufficient to Ensure Safety
Classing standards do have value. In fact, our first submersible, Antipodes, has always been ABS classed and our entire team is well aware of the classing standards and the value of using them as a benchmark for vessel performance. But by itself, classing is not sufficient to ensure safety. In part this is because classing does not properly assess the operational factors are vital for ensuring a safe dive, and because classing assessments are done annually (at best) and do not ensure that the operator follows procedures or processes that are the key to conducting safe dive operations.

A Day in the Life of a Crane Operator - 8 Aspects

Crane operators play a vital role in the construction industry, responsible for safely and efficiently lifting and moving heavy loads. Their job requires a high level of skill and experience, as well as the ability to work under pressure and in challenging conditions.
If you're interested in learning more about what it's like to be a crane operator, this article will take you through a typical day in their life.
1. Pre-Shift Inspection:
The first thing a crane operator does before starting their shift is to conduct a pre-shift inspection of their crane. This involves checking all of the crane's components for any signs of wear or damage. The operator will also check the crane's load charts and make sure that the crane is properly calibrated.
2. Set up:
Once the crane has been inspected, the operator will set it up in the desired location. This may involve attaching the crane to a foundation or building, or positioning it on a crane pad. The operator will also need to set up the crane's load lines and hooks.
3. Lift and Move Loads:
The primary responsibility of a crane operator is to lift and move heavy loads. This can involve anything from moving construction materials to lifting and placing prefabricated sections of a building. Crane operators use their skills and experience to safely and efficiently move loads of all sizes and weights.
4. Communication:
Crane operators must be able to communicate effectively with other workers on the job site. This is especially important when lifting and moving heavy loads, as crane operators need to be able to coordinate their movements with other workers to ensure safety.
5. Problem-Solving:
Crane operators often need to solve problems on the job site. This may involve figuring out how to lift and move a load in a tight space, or dealing with unexpected weather conditions. Crane operators need to be able to think critically and come up with solutions to problems on the fly.
6. Teamwork:
Crane operators often work as part of a team. This may involve working with other crane operators, signal persons, and other construction workers. Crane operators need to be able to work effectively with others to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
7. Safety:
Safety is the top priority for crane operators. They need to be constantly aware of their surroundings and take precautions to avoid accidents. Crane operators also need to be familiar with all of the safety regulations that apply to their job.
8. End-of-Shift Inspection:
At the end of their shift, crane operators will conduct a post-shift inspection of their crane. This is similar to the pre-shift inspection, but it is important to check the crane for any damage that may have occurred during the shift.

I feel like this is a bit of an unfair critique of Fallout 4. For one, every aspect of the intro is designed to show just how present the idea of "nuclear apocalypse" is for the world pre-war. Your family's got Nuka Cola and Sugar Bombs, a board game called Blast Radius, and a visit from a salesman who hopes he'll get a pack of steak knives for selling memberships to a suburban fallout shelter. The opening cinematic shows both the nuclear picket fence ideal and military trucks carrying nuclear weapons driving right through that ideal. So much of Fallout 4 is about how fragile the US's hypercapitalist warmongering fantasy really is. Hell, the big trick that Fallout 4's opening pulls is to show you the world as a suburban American paradise, and subsequently destroy it completely. As for its portrayal of the military and government, I honestly don't get where you found any blind patriotism for the in-game military. Just to cite some examples, the general in charge of Fort Hagen keeps supposedly confidential bloodwork reports on his wife and troops. One military checkpoint lets a former marine and a pastor through without inspection, but harasses a camera crew and a Chinese family for the obvious reasons. Even just looking at Boston's municipal government, you can see them approving construction of a Vault in an old subway station that will never work to keep union workers busy. Those workers never even have a chance to enter into the Vault they themselves are building because Vault-Tec's entry requirements explicitly restrict access to the ultra-wealthy for experimental purposes. In the opening cinematic, it straight up mentions rioting and distrust of the government over the extensive rationing that the U.S. is implementing for the war that can only end in armageddon. The opening monologue is a war veteran openly calling for peace because he's worried the U.S.'s war is only ever going to end one way, which it does.
I'm typically not one to jump to Fallout 4's defense, because you are at least right in that Fallout 4 fucking sucks, but playing the game and taking "uncritical support for 50's Americana and hypermilitarization" just doesn't ring true.
Man I know I'm bitching about this a lot but I think the complete degradation of the satire and edge of the fallout series over time makes me so mad. The first game literally has an occupying American soldier shooting a Canadian protester dead right there in the opening to let you know the game's stance towards the military and the US as a whole; it's a biting attack on the jingoistic, war-and-profit loving country the US was, rooted in reality. It immediately forces the player to recognize the US (especially in this setting) were not heroic, patriotic do-gooders, but violent, colonizing bastards who blew up the world over chasing a white-picket-fence dream. "War never changes" is about the futile nature of war, the repeating cycles of violence and corruption, the very principles of fighting your fellow man never changing over time. It is always abhorrent, it is always messy, it is always reprehensible, and it is always done for the self interest of the elite in some way. Men do not die for their country, they simply die. Contrasting that with the opening of Fallout 4, which seems to idolize the military and pre-war America, is fucking baffling. You have those white picket fences, those perfect nuclear families, and "war never changes" is stretched like an Animorph cover from a harsh condemnation of the violent cycles the world is put through to a patriotic, watered down idea that war is inevitable and so are heroes. There's no fucking edge to how Fallout 4 remembers the country that ended the world; it gleefully eats up the Americana iconography, sanding down every edge that could make the player even consider that the US in the world of Fallout is meant to be our US taken to a logical extreme, instead revelling in patriotic clothes and ideals and icons while the entire basis of the franchise was built on satirizing and critiquing that exact blind patriotism. It drives me insane that these two completely ideologically different games are under the same roof and that one of them fell for the exact propaganda the first game was satirizing in the first place.

This proactive step not only builds trust with potential buyers but can also speed up the transaction process and reduce last-minute negotiations.
By addressing repairs in advance, sellers gain a competitive advantage in the local real estate market, making their property more appealing and market-ready.
New Construction Inspections in Auburn
Even newly built homes are not immune to defects. In fact, construction oversights and rushed deadlines can lead to incomplete or faulty installations. Annual Maintenance Inspections for Property Owners

These inspections are ideal for landlords, property managers, or homeowners who want to stay ahead of maintenance and avoid expensive repairs.
Specialized Mold Testing Services in Auburn
Mold is one of the most dangerous and underdiagnosed issues in homes. Our Mold Testing service is a vital part of our inspection process for homes showing signs of moisture intrusion, poor ventilation, or recent flooding. We collect air and surface samples that are analyzed in certified labs to determine the presence, type, and concentration of mold spores in your home.
This information is crucial for families with allergies, asthma, or respiratory sensitivities, and helps guide mold remediation efforts. Even if mold isn’t visible, our equipment can detect hidden infestations behind walls, under floors, or in attics.

Our inspections aren’t just visual. We integrate cutting-edge technology to enhance the accuracy of our reports. Infrared imaging detects temperature variations to identify insulation gaps, water leaks, and electrical hotspots. Unlocking Real Estate Opportunities in Ontario: Home Evaluation, Pre-Construction Condos, and Legal Clauses to Know

The Ontario real estate market remains one of Canada’s most dynamic sectors, with Toronto at its core offering diverse options for buyers and investors. Whether you're purchasing a new home, exploring pre-construction condos, or seeking professional real estate services, understanding key aspects like home evaluation and real estate clauses ontario is essential to make informed decisions. This article explores the landscape of real estate services ontario, highlighting the importance of home evaluation services in Toronto, the growing appeal of pre-construction condos, and essential clauses to watch in real estate contracts.
Home Evaluation Services in Toronto
A professional home evaluation is a critical step whether you're planning to sell, refinance, or simply understand your property’s market value. In Toronto's competitive real estate scene, accurate evaluations can make a significant difference. Licensed real estate professionals or certified appraisers assess various factors, including location, recent comparable sales, condition of the home, and market trends.
Homeowners benefit from evaluation reports as they provide a baseline for pricing a property, avoiding underpricing or overpricing that could delay a sale. Buyers can also request evaluations to ensure fair market value before making offers. In Toronto, where property values can vary significantly between neighborhoods, a thorough home evaluation ensures transparency and confidence in the transaction.
The Rising Demand for Pre-Construction Condos in Toronto
Toronto's skyline is ever-evolving, thanks in part to the growing interest in pre-construction condominiums. These properties offer several advantages, including modern designs, customizable features, and lower upfront costs. For investors, pre-construction condos often present strong appreciation potential before the building is even completed.
Purchasing a pre-construction unit allows buyers to enter the market with a phased payment plan, giving more time to arrange financing. However, buyers should be aware of extended occupancy periods and potential changes in project timelines. It's also crucial to work with real estate agents experienced in pre-construction to help negotiate better deals and navigate builder agreements.
Understanding Real Estate Clauses in Ontario
Real estate agreements in Ontario include a range of legal clauses that protect both buyers and sellers. Key clauses to be aware of include:
Financing Clause: Allows the buyer to back out if mortgage financing is not approved.
Home Inspection Clause: Gives buyers the right to inspect the property and withdraw or renegotiate based on findings.
Title Search Clause: Ensures the property has a clear title with no legal encumbrances.
Closing Date Clause: Specifies when the ownership will officially transfer.
Understanding these clauses is vital before signing any agreement. Engaging a knowledgeable realtor or legal advisor helps ensure that your interests are protected throughout the process.
Choosing Real Estate Services in Ontario
Working with a reputable real estate professional in Ontario ensures access to updated listings, negotiation expertise, and strategic guidance whether buying, selling, or investing. They offer end-to-end support, from property searches and paperwork to liaising with lawyers and inspectors.
Final Thoughts
Navigating Ontario’s real estate market, particularly in Toronto, demands an informed approach. With expert home evaluation services, smart investment in pre construction condos toronto, and awareness of essential real estate clauses, buyers and sellers can make confident, strategic decisions. Partnering with trusted real estate professionals can turn property aspirations into successful realities.
