Super Cyclone Amphan Chapter:#4 Livestock Livestock is commonly defined as domesticated animals raised in an agricultural setting to produce labor and subsidiary commodities like milk, meat, eggs, fur, leather, wool etc. Though it sounds like pretty much business to product relationship,yet the definition is not telling us atleast one aspect of livestock farming. That is life and lively emotional connection between the human owner and the commodities. We meet people with cattle traveling more than 15km in search of fresh green pastures. Cattles are in sevier food crisis in flooded #Amphan affected areas. They are assets to people, so survival of them are equally important. But is it the only reason of so much hardship of owners? I doubt. I got involved into conversation with a man traveling daily15 km from his home along with 4 cows, he told me the reason why he stop farming goats. He had many sleepless nights knowing the destiny of his goats, he decided to get money. I can remember his last word of our meet, - let's call it a day, my cows does not want to stay more. - so your cows are taking the decision? - yes, atleast they know the nature better than us. Due to cyclone, in the #sundarbans, flooding extended 15 km (9.3 mi) inland. The cyclone produced sustained winds of 112 km/h (70 mph) and gusts to 190 km/h (120 mph) in #WestBengal. These are 2 enough reasons to cause people loosing home. These moments has been captured during an Amphan relief program in Hasnabad, Sundarbans. Book Review 📖⁣ DAUGHTERS OF THE BROTHEL- • • ⁣ This book takes to the taboo side of our world, SEX WORK . Our society produces a lot of hate towards sex workers , but most the people in this business aren't willing here . They do it to survive , what's that saying ? Survival for the fittest ? Even if it means you have to sell your body . ⁣ ⁣ Even if it means you are trapped , not just physically but psychologically . It shows how hypocritical our society can be , being judgemental towards sex workers even if it was our society that pushed them into this . ⁣ ⁣ I felt the pain of every person interviewed in this book , their struggles , their scars . This book gives us an insight into their world . Breathing Roots Those have been to Sundarban or any other mangrove area have seen this. And those of us who remember this from our basic biology class - these are pneumatophores or the breathing Roots of mangrove. The mangrove are a special group of trees or plants which forms the basis of a difficult ecosystem. It's not just sundari alone, a whole new types of mangrove trees are their having these modified roots and stems performing special functions. The slanted stems you see are actually stilt roots which hold these marshy saline soil together and give support to the plant to live. The breathing Roots on the other hand. Go down into the muddy soil and come up erect into the air about 2-3 inches. These roots of air sacs which let them exchange air and breath. Together these 2 roots of the mangroves makes life possible in Sundarbans. This clay muddy marshy waters and land is difficult to survive regular life but the wildlife it sustains forms the basis of ecology. It can only survive here and with these trees gone, the land will be gone and so will be the various species living in and above the water. That's how vital Sundarban is. How vital it is to save the largest mangrove vegetation on earth Please help and donate to sustain this ecosystem. And by help I don't mean donation. This was last year summer, while descending from Har ki Doon. As we are about to reach our camps we started discussing about trek in the summer of 2020 . However here we are fighting against Covid-19 by staying at home and complaining how badly our traveling soul is itching to go out. As per Govt run, NIC ( National Insurance Company) most claims are based on loss of property in terms of households, small manufacturing unit, retail shops, godown, etc. Due to cyclone, in the #sundarbans, flooding extended 15 km (9.3 mi) inland.
