The Power Blue variant was a uqiue variant to SSC that was sonsered by Autism Speaks, and only given to Splat and Double Dare Trigger Happy (along with their vehicles.)
This makes it the worse variant, why?
Splat and DD.Trigger Happy, with the implied autism with them being both Power Blue, are the two most STRONGLY present stereotypes for the autistic community.
Splat: Very intelligent, gifted individual, but also outcasted by her people for her special interest until it befits them. Very verbal. (Think gifted child), and humanoid.
Trigger Happy: Non-verbal, talks in mostly babbles, hyperactive, non-humanoid, very prone to violence. Crazy.
Would have this been a problem if it wasn't just them? Maybe not. Then again… considering Autism Speaks (even at the time) agent towards shunning the Autistic community and eraticate them….
Not such a good thing…

You're more amazing than tummies
Been thinking about plushies lately and wanted to make a set of fabric-themed Etrian Odyssey classes for playing as and fighting plushies
Scissorblade - A melee class that specializes in attack buffs and basic attacks, and wields limited elemental damage. Sharp Snip: Melee cut attack. Basic attacks guaranteed to crit next turn. Temper Blades: Increases physical damage and crit chance to one ally line for 3 turns. Double Attack: Passive. Gives a chance to make two basic attacks. Heated/Frosted/Static Edge: Increases physical damage and imbue basic attacks with fire/ice/volt to one ally line for 3 turns. Burning/Frigid/Voltic Cut: Melee cut+fire/ice/volt attack to one enemy line.
Ragstainer - A melee class specializing in ailments, with attacks that lower bind/ailment resistance and ailment attacks that can splash ailments. Rip Up: Melee cut attack. Lowers bind+ailment resistance for 3 turns. Mud Blot: Melee bash attack. Inflicts blind on all enemies in the row. Mud Splash: Inflicts blind on all enemies. On failure, reduces bind+ailment resistance for 3 turns. Bleach Bash: Melee bash attack. If the target has an ailment, remove it to greatly increase damage.
Night-Knight - A defensive melee class that can create extra HP in the form of padding and share it with allies to soak up damage. Fluff Up: Gain a large amount of padding. Auto Fluff: Passive. At start of combat, chance to use Fluff Up for free. Swaddle Ally: Gain some padding. One ally shares user's padding for 3 turns. Swaddle Line: Gain some padding. One ally line shares user's padding for 3 turns. Selfless Swaddle: Gain some padding. For 3 turns, all other party members share user's padding, but the user does not. Pillow Hammer: Melee bash attack. Spend all padding to increase damage proportional to padding spent. Nightfall Hammer: Melee bash attack. Stronger with less remaining HP.
Stitchstabber - A melee class with high speed that can use splash and piece attacks to stitch enemies together; when one enemy is hit by a single-target attack, all stitched enemies are hit. Side-Stitch: Melee stab attack that splashes to adjacent enemies. Hit enemies are stitched together. Straight-Stitch: Ranged stab attack that pierces enemy lines. Hit enemies are stitched together. Rending Needle: Accurate melee stab attack that reduces the target's evasion and physical defense this turn. Painful Needle: Melee stab attack that reduces the target's accuracy and physical attack this turn. Sever Life: Remove stitches to make a powerful ranged cut attack on all stitched enemies with a chance to instant-kill.
Laundromancer - A melee/support class with damage and healing skills that purge buffs/debuffs to increase potency. Dry Out: Melee fire attack that purges a buff and a debuff. If a debuff was removed, increase damage. Wring Out: Melee bash attack that purges all buffs and debuffs. Increase damage for each debuff removed. Soak: Heal an ally and purge a buff and a debuff. If a buff was removed, increase healing and restore TP. Wash Away: Heal a line of allies and purge a buff and a debuff. Increase healing and restore TP to each ally that lost a buff. Good as New: Revive a dead ally and restore a large amount of HP. Spin Cycle: Ranged ice attack to all enemies that purges all buffs and debuffs. Increase damage to all enemies for each debuff removed.
Threadspinner - A ranged class that can strike and bind enemy lines with lashes of thread, or throw needles that hit bound enemies extra hard. Head/Arm/Leg Lash: Ranged cut attack to an enemy line. Binds head/arms/legs. Coiling Lash: Ranged cut attack. Binds head+arms+legs. Piercing Needle: Ranged stab attack that pierces enemy lines. Increased damage to bound enemies. Vicious Needle: Ranged stab attack. Increased damage for each bind on the target. Needle Rain: 8 ranged stab attacks to random enemies. Cannot hit the same enemy more than three times. Increased damage to bound enemies.
Dyesplasher - A ranged class wielding elements, buffs/debuffs, and ailments, giving it a versatile and flexible toolkit. Red/Blue/Yellow Splat: Ranged fire/ice/volt attack. Inflict panic/poison/paralysis. Red/Blue/Yellow Wave: Ranged fire/ice/volt attack to all enemies. Color Cloak: Increases elemental defense to all allies. Red Ruin/Blue Blues/Yellow Yelp: Reduce fire/ice/volt resistance and physical attack/elemental attack/bind+ailment rate to an enemy line for 3 turns. Rainbow Mixture: For 3 turns, increase an ally's elemental damage and ailment rate, and make fire, ice, or volt attacks become fire+ice+volt. (note: due to the way damage types work in Etrian Odyssey, more elements is always better)
Plushstuffer - A ranged/support class that uses builds up stuffing as it uses basic skills, then uses it for powerful plushie skills. Cotton Catapult: Ranged elementless attack. Get 1 stuffing. Unwind/Pluck Off: Remove a bind/ailment from an ally and restore a small amoung of HP. Get 1 stuffing. Tiger Plushie: Spend all stuffing (max 3) to make 5 ranged bash attacks against random enemies. Cannot hit the same enemy more than twice. Increased damage with more stuffing. Frog Plushie: Spend all stuffing (max 3) to heal all allies and remove binds/ailments. Increased healing with more stuffing. Unicorn Plushie: Spend all stuffing (max 3) to attempt to revive/heal all allies. Increased chance with more stuffing, 100% at 3.
Outfitter - A support class with a wide arsenal of buff skills, which can be spread to buff multiple allies or combined to use multiple on one ally. Can also steal enemy buffs and bind them with restrictive clothing. Daring Clothes: Unlocks the Phys/Elem Attack, Act Speed, and Bind+Ailment Rate clothing skills. Practical Clothes: Unlocks the Phys/Elem Defense, Endure Chance, and Bind+Ailment Res clothing skills. Comfortable Clothes: Unlocks the Regeneration, TP Discount, and Accuracy+Evasion clothing skills. Fashion Line: Use a clothing skill on an ally line. Mass Production: Use a clothing skill on all allies. Custom Fit: Combine two clothing skills into 1 buff on an ally, then double the duration of that buff. Bespoke Garb: Combine three clothing skills into 1 buff on an ally. Catwalk Showoff: This turn, buffed allies deal more damage. Flattery: Steal a buff from an enemy and give it to all allies. Mask/Mittens/Heels: Inflict head/arm/leg bind on an enemy.
Patchmender - A support class with healing and cure skills that apply patches to allies, boosting their stats or negating binds/ailments. Athletic Patch: Heal an ally and boost their phys/elem attack for 3 turns. Athletic Mending: Heal a line of allies and boost their phys/elem attack for 3 turns. Reinforced Patch: Heal an ally and boost their phys/elem defense for 3 turns. Aromatic Patch: Heal an ally and give them regeneration for 3 turns. Patched Tear: Revive a dead ally and give them a chance to endure death once in the next 3 turns. Mended Knot/Stain: Remove a bind/ailment from a line of allies and negate the next bind/ailment they would receive in the next 3 turns.
#asks#the skills given are just a handful of examples#if they were real they'd have a bunch more#as usual the hardest part was the names lol#both class names and skill names#except for the Outfitter. that one was super easy and fun#also to explain Rainbow Mixture making elemental attacks have all elements:#if an attack has multiple elements the game uses the one that the target is weakest to#so that means that if you want to poison an enemy with Blue Splat but it's immune to ice you can make it fire+ice+volt to still deal damage#and if it's weak to fire then it'll take weakness damage even though it's immune to ice!#also Etrian Odyssey combat has a front line and a back line so that's what the “ally line” “pierces enemy lines” stuff is about#also binds are a really neat mechanic: each skill requires a certain body part (head/arm/leg) and if that part is bound you can't use it#so if the enemy is blasting you with powerful magic you can bind the head and they'll waste their turns trying and failing to cast spells#leg bind is the least useful bind tho because barely any skills use legs lol#it does negate enemy evasion tho!#i'm proud that i managed to make a full 10 because that's the amount that normal EO games have#though i'm just now realizing i want the thimbleknight to be blanket-themed instead#okay i changed it now it's the bedding-themed night-knight and all the skills are the same just with different flavor#had to make sure my love of blankets was sufficiently represented#ALSO i made Nightfall Hammer because you can have low HP but lots of padding so you're safe and i think that's neat#also also i'm just proud of some of the mechanics i made like padding and stitches because they're unique#i'm glad i was able to come up with enough ideas to not just be copying classes from the games

Okay, dumb thought hours. I'm pretty sure Marco had his power *before* he joined the wbp.
But what if he got it after but still as a kid? Imagine a young pineapple climbing up the mast trying to learn to fly like baby birds jumping out the nest.
He jumps, hits the floor like THUD SPLAT and there is nothing for a few moments then he just erupts in blue flames and wings and everyone's just like *you okay buddy?*
Between the goth phase wanted poster and that story Pops always tells/shows every ew love interest Marco has.
Only way to embaress him.

Renchanting Splatoon AU
Tumblr media
Artist is not immune to Treebark/Renchanting propaganda
More Splatoon AU! This time with these two bastards. You know the drill! Rambles + bonus context under cut
Ren and Martyn go way back, like Octolings being trapped underground far back in Splatoon 2 before Octo expansion.
Originally, they were both soldiers deployed to Octo Canyon, that's how they met! Ren's the older and taller of the two, also tallest from his section. A lot of their scars come from their time serving, from falling debris or what have you. Ren has the most character building so lets hop into that.
During his time serving, Ren was stationed on a stage where Agent 4 (or the protag from Splatoon2) had to use a charger to get around the stage and splat enemies. They wouldn't know the effects of this until they were freed and released to the surface.
After they were released to the surface, they all took off their Octoshades for the final time. While the other Octolings were amazed by the bright, warm sunlight, Ren could hardly see a thing, the bright light over powering his vision. After taking so many brightly colored charger shots to the face, his eyes had developed a light sensitivity forcing him to wear sunglasses wherever he went. His eyes were blue, but because of the yellow charger shots over time his eyes shifted from light blue to a lemon-lime-y yellow. Idk how to describe it.
Martyn and Ren were already close from serving together, so when Ren had trouble seeing, Martyn would grab his hand and lead him places, even sharing a flat together.
I see them as queer platonic partners. Ren is Aroace while Martyn is unlabeled, not really caring enough to put a label on whatever he has going on but he does experience some romantic attraction but that's not the driving force behind them
Martyn keeps spare sunglasses for Ren on hand, just in case :] and sometimes Martyn will also wears sunglasses so Ren doesn't feel awkward for wearing them in stores or inside buildings, etc.
Unfortunately due to his condition, Ren isn't able to participate during Splatfests so instead they have their own party for the weekend and anyone who isn't going to be participating in the fest are always welcome to join them.
I don't know if you've noticed but Ren has a HARD resting bitch face (rbf) because of his sunglasses. You'd sit across from him on the tran and he'd looks so displeased to be there until you actually talk to him and he's so bright and bubbly to talk to. Martyn has a more expressive face but I'd say his default expression is focused.
RIGHT. I ALMOST FORGOT.
Ren is a Splatana Wiper main and Martyn is a Gold Dynamo Roller main. I have more thoughts and headcanons about them but I think I'll save it for another post.
Hey! Thanks for reading about my silly lil AU, it means the world <3

[1 of 5 of Sasha's Background Files. Including some heavy topics like human experiments. This series is a work of fiction. Cordelia belongs to @splatting-stampede ]
Sasha Mariya Lazarski was often referred to as an artificial god, someone who had climbed so high that her fingers seemed capable of scratching stars from the sky with pure force. Countless hours of research had fueled her ascent. Miss Lazarski had the audacity to challenge the work of gods by raising the scalpel, taking human beings and transforming them into living dolls. She would disassemble their limbs, twist their joints, and rearrange what should have remained in place. She stripped the human out of humanity, from her subjects, and reshaped them into grotesque forms—masses of flesh, kept alive only by the tubes her workers had threaded through their bodies.
Yet, there were two sides to her.
Mariya, the woman who wore her long hair in a ponytail interwoven with carefully braided strands. Each day, she put effort into creating a new hairstyle, hoping to impress her fiancé, who always insisted that no matter how she styled it, she was as beautiful as the first day he saw her. Mariya preferred her coffee with two sugars, a shot of milk, and hazelnut syrup—a concoction more akin to liquid diabetes than coffee, but like many things, it was just another matter of personal taste. In her free time, she knitted scarves, dyed her hair every two weeks, and harbored a strong addiction to sudoku.
Sasha, on the other hand, wore her hair in a messy bun, with pencils and pens tucked into it when there was no room left behind her ears. She had an awful habit of biting her nails when under pressure, leaving them bleeding or infected. But pain was something that receded to the back of her mind when she was working. Gods don’t feel pain; they feel power. Sasha was one of Urbanshade’s top researchers, leading her own team and forcing countless humans through the trial stages she’d designed—all with the help of a mysterious drug gifted to her by a stranger.
Both were one and the same person.
One Monday afternoon, the coffee machine on the fourth floor broke again, in desperate need of a deep cleaning after someone spilled half a box of coffee creamer over it. Whether it was a wild animal that broke in or a lazy coworker with shaky hands, no one could say. Miss Lazarski glanced at her empty mug, her face twisting in disappointment, and picked up the remaining coffee creamer. She drank it straight from the box, grimacing at the taste but at least temporarily quenching her thirst. She then tossed the box in the trash, followed shortly by her mug—there was no time or energy to return it to the shelf when far more important matters demanded her attention.
One such matter was Cordelia. A simple name in a file filled with far more complex issues than a police report. Miss Lazarski had spent the previous night poring over Cordelia’s data. She knew everything—her family history, where she worked, what her favorite food was, whether she had ever stolen anything. Miss Lazarski even knew all the embarrassing high school stories Cordelia had lived through. And if you asked the blue-haired woman what she thought of her subject, the answer would be clear: Cordelia was, is, and always will be utterly boring. Ordinary at best. Miss Lazarski had wasted hours of her night studying someone who was replaceable and insignificant. She even used Cordelia’s photographs from the file as a coaster, now stained with coffee rings, marking the same forgettable face on every page.
The same forgettable face sat before Miss Lazarski, dressed in the drab, degrading prison uniform that was an affront to human dignity—and to her personal aesthetic. Telling Cordelia to strip out of that pathetic cloth wasn’t exactly an option at the moment, especially with the soldiers standing guard at the entrance, watching the prisoner closely. Not that Miss Lazarski particularly respected human rights, not with her work so deeply entrenched in the shadows of ethics. But she could afford to respect a person’s privacy—sometimes. A single glance was all it took. Cordelia hadn’t been able to shower in a while; her hair was a greasy, tangled mess that hung in front of her face. Bruises mottled her skin in shades of purple and green, some fresh, some fading. The sight made Miss Lazarski smile faintly. Cordelia was clever. She’d clearly been through some altercations but hadn’t fought back. She’d taken the hits. Prison was a psychological battleground, and this woman had chosen survival over pride. Not that it mattered anymore—Miss Lazarski was here for a very specific purpose.
"Welcome." Miss Lazarski began, her tone clipped and professional. "Let’s get a few things straight. I’m Professor Doctor Lazarski. I wasn’t originally scheduled to meet with you today, but my colleague from the legal department is… unavailable, so I’ve been sent in their place to collect your data. I’m a researcher at Urbanshade, a rather prestigious company. Perhaps you’ve heard of us, perhaps not."
Cordelia’s eyes, wide and cautious, tracked Miss Lazarski’s movements, her silence an indication of either confusion or wariness. It was clear she was trying to keep up with the rapid pace of the blue-haired woman’s words.
"Dizziness?" Miss Lazarski’s voice sharpened, her gaze analyzing Cordelia with the precision of a scalpel. "Your movements are sluggish, the way you're sitting suggests something more than just those bruises. No… you’ve suffered trauma. Recent trauma, in fact. It hasn’t had time to heal. If it had been there longer, the doctors would’ve patched you up. Or perhaps they’ve decided that a walking corpse isn’t worth treating."
Cordelia met her gaze, struggling to process the flood of clinical observations.
"Dizziness, a ringing in your ears, loss of hearing, and the pain… someone hit you hard, didn’t they? Did it bleed?" Miss Lazarski’s questions were cold, almost indifferent, as if she were dissecting a subject under a microscope rather than speaking to a human being.
„I will take care of that, when you accept our offer. We invite you to a special program. It is simple enough. We will free you and you assist us with a small task.“
Miss Cordelia was gone—vanished, erased from existence in less than 48 hours after signing her name on Miss Lazarski’s documents. Case closed.
“I don’t notice a difference.” Charles chuckled, seated at the dinner table, turning two plain bottles slowly in his hands, studying their labels. Mariya watched him from the stove, where she was lazily waiting for the leftovers from the fridge to heat up—just a quick dinner after a long day. Both had just returned home.
“I think the difference is that the original actually has sugar, and the new edition uses artificial sweeteners instead." she mumbled, trying to peer over his shoulder to see the labels herself. "Neither is good, but I guess the new one could be labeled as 'better.'"
Charles noticed her curiosity and chuckled, lifting the bottle higher for her to see. "You didn’t tell me how work was.” he added, leaning back and meeting her gaze.
“I made a new friend a while ago.” Mariya replied, her voice casual. “Her name is Cordelia.”
Charles raised an eyebrow, a teasing smile forming on his lips. “Oh? And how’s she doing?”
Mariya smiled faintly, turning her attention back to the stove. "Well," she said, her tone light, almost playful. "Let’s just say… she's a little hard to reach these days."
The quiet hum of the kitchen filled the air as Mariya stood by the stove, watching the leftovers warm up. The soft glow of the evening light filtered through the window, casting long, golden shadows across the room. The day had been long, draining in ways she couldn’t put into words, but standing here, she felt a stillness she rarely allowed herself. The soft clink of Charles’ glass on the table broke the silence, but it was gentle, like everything else he did.
Without a word, Charles walked over to her, his presence a comforting warmth at her back. He didn’t say anything, didn’t need to. Instead, he slid his arms around her waist, pulling her gently against him. The solid weight of his body was grounding, and for a moment, Mariya closed her eyes, letting herself fall into the moment. She felt his chest rise and fall with each breath, his heartbeat a steady rhythm against her back.
His hand found hers near the stove, his fingers intertwining with hers in a familiar, wordless gesture. She didn’t pull away. Instead, she leaned into him, her head resting lightly against his shoulder. The quiet stretched on, not awkward but full—full of the things neither of them had to say.
Charles’ fingers traced slow, absent patterns across the back of her hand, his touch feather-light, as if he were reminding her of something she hadn’t forgotten but needed to feel again. A gentle reminder that in this space, in this moment, she was allowed to just *be*.
Mariya exhaled softly, the weight of the day beginning to lift. He didn’t know everything—didn’t know about the shadows she walked through at work, the things that sat heavy on her chest when the nights stretched long. But here, in their small kitchen, with his arms around her, none of that mattered. His love wasn’t about understanding every corner of her life; it was about being there in the spaces where words fell short.
The soft click of the stove turning off broke the stillness, and Mariya moved slowly, turning around in his arms, her eyes meeting his. She didn’t say anything. She didn’t need to. The way he looked at her—gentle, patient, as if he had all the time in the world to wait for whatever she wasn’t ready to say—was enough. His hand came up to brush a stray strand of hair from her face, his fingers lingering at her temple for just a second longer than necessary, as if tracing the path of an unspoken thought.
She reached up, her fingertips grazing the edge of his jaw, her thumb brushing across his skin in a slow, deliberate motion. His eyes softened, and in that silence, they understood each other. Not the details, not the complexities of their separate worlds, but the depth of what it meant to be together.
Charles leaned down, pressing his forehead gently to hers, his breath warm against her skin. His hand found its way to the small of her back, pulling her closer in a quiet, unspoken reassurance. They stood like that for a while, the sound of their breathing the only thing that filled the room.
Eventually, Mariya tilted her head just enough to press her lips softly to his. It wasn’t hurried or intense—just a slow, deliberate kiss that held the weight of everything she couldn’t say. He kissed her back, just as slowly, his hand gently cradling the back of her neck as if he were holding something fragile and precious.
When they pulled apart, Charles’ eyes held hers for a moment longer, his thumb brushing lightly against her cheek. Then, without a word, he turned toward the stove, plating the food. The mundane act of preparing dinner felt almost sacred in the quiet, as if the space they shared in that moment had stripped away the noise of the world outside.
Mariya sat at the table, watching him move with the ease of someone who had been a part of her life for so long, his every movement familiar, but never taken for granted. He placed the plate in front of her and sat down across from her, their knees brushing under the table.
In the silence that followed, Mariya reached across the table, her fingers finding his once more. Charles squeezed her hand gently, his eyes never leaving hers.
Time had slipped by, a whole week vanishing into routine, like sand slipping through fingers. Miss Lazarski glanced at the screen in front of her, her eyes briefly lingering on the grainy image of Cordelia. The woman who had once sat across from her, bruised and fragile, was now nothing more than a lump of flesh in a cage, reduced to an experiment among so many others. Humanity twisted by human hands. She should’ve felt something—satisfaction, maybe. But all she felt was the pull of the clock.
It was almost lunchtime.
With a sharp exhale, she turned away from the monitor and began typing hurried notes into the system, her fingers moving with a precision that didn’t reflect the impatience simmering beneath her calm exterior. There was still work to be done, data to gather, but that could wait. Lunch time wasn’t just about food; it was the promise of seeing Charles again. In a world where everything felt measured, controlled, and manipulated, those stolen moments were the closest thing to freedom. It was about the moments they carved out for themselves in a world that was always demanding more.
They both worked at Urbanshade, passing each other like shadows in a world that seldom allowed them the luxury of crossing paths. The cafeteria, though—no matter how sterile, no matter how full of faceless colleagues—it was their sanctuary, the one place where their lives intersected, even if just for a short while.
Miss Lazarski pushed her chair back, the scrape of the legs against the floor a jarring sound in the otherwise quiet lab. She glanced once more at the monitor, at the lifeless scene that had become Cordelia's reality, and then turned away, heading for the door. The hallway outside felt cold and impersonal, the fluorescent lights casting sharp angles on the tiled floor. But as she walked, the thought of seeing Charles, of feeling his quiet warmth in a world that otherwise felt hollow, kept her moving forward.
"Ah, Miss Lazarski, or should I say, soon-to-be wife of mine." Charles greeted her with that familiar, warm smile, his tray already filled with the typical mass-produced cafeteria food—a sad reward for the hours they poured into their work. Mariya's eyes flicked to his tray, catching sight of the small cup of pudding nestled among the bland offerings. A smile crept onto her lips as she stared at it, and for a brief moment, Cordelia’s face flashed in her mind. Something about that pudding, that mundane detail, sparked an unexpected connection—an idea, a new line of research that could push her further.
But now wasn’t the time for that.
"Let me grab some food too. You can save us a seat." The woman beamed at her fiancé, leaning in to press a quick kiss to his cheek before slipping past him. The kiss was light, like a breeze, but enough to feel the warmth between them—a touch that grounded her in a way she didn’t fully understand.
As she moved through the line, grabbing the same mass-produced lunch everyone else had, her mind was already racing, the gears turning. Her fingers tapped idly against the cold metal tray as she thought about Cordelia—her flesh, her transformation, the possibilities. Cordelia was about to reach the next step of evolution, thanks to Miss Lazarskis skilled fingers. Research was always evolving, and so was she. But even in the midst of those cold, clinical thoughts, there was an odd comfort in knowing Charles was there, just a few steps away, waiting with his warm smile and cheap cafeteria pudding.
She reached for a tray of her own, the process automatic, mechanical. But her mind, even with its hunger for answers and new discoveries, found a brief pause—a small, fleeting sense of normalcy in the idea that she’d be sitting across from him soon. It was enough to keep her tethered, just for a moment.

So if the first Spinjitzu master was the child of a dragon and oni, would it be so far-fetched for the other masters to be dragon children too? Especially with how wonky they are with the timeline.. Like the parents that fought with Wu are probably at least in their 30’s-50’s when the ninjas are born?? Idk I just like to think they’re long lived too.
Or, in which Kai’s self esteem/abandonment issues act up, leaving him feeling unneeded. So dragon puberty combined with getting sick with some fire elemental specific flu decides to throw him into a loop and force himself to be the one cared for, for once in his life.
-
Kai hasn’t been in a good mindset lately. His siblings don’t seem to need him anymore. Lloyd is (mostly) all grown up and Nya is now a warrior in her own right. He doesn’t have to work in the forge or scrape for odd jobs just to put food on the table. They have a better home than he ever could have dreamed of. They have an allowance. They have a parent guardian that does all the things he shouldn’t have had to do in the first place.
It’s just, the others all have such useful talents. Zane can cook, strategize, and do incredible robot things. Cole had super strength, climbed cliffs like a spider, and was a natural with animals. Jay and Nya could build just about anything they can think of, and Nya always said that his own smith work was shoddy at best. Lloyd was the actual chosen one.
What was he good at other than burning things down?
Kai thought he was past this, past the need to snap out at others and do things alone. He was the last to join the original team. The other three were probably training together for years before he was brought in just because Nya was kidnapped. His entire induction was a trial by fire. It’s just far too easy to fall back into old habits sometimes…
His village was rustic and poor, so far in the outskirts that they didn’t have electric power or indoor plumbing. Nya learned to read before he did,(he still had trouble with it) insisting on her staying in school while he spent all day scrounging up any money he could. Whether from quick jobs or quick fingers. Food was hard to get as a six year old, let alone learning to use the forge with what little he could remember dad teaching him. He had street smarts and improvisation ingrained into him. Thinking on his feet and jumping into action so they could survive another day.
His mood was making him slip, he knew it was but he couldn’t stop it. Sparring against Jay always got him riled up, with all the verbal jabs at his sore spots that normally he could brush off and banter right back. Today he was just angry. Not just his temper but his body feels weird too. Restless, frustrated, sluggish, sore. His skin felt too tight and his muscles ached. His gut and lungs were clogged with soot. His head swims in fog.
Another miss had him slamming into a pillar. Everyone on the side chuckled and it made his chest burn hotter. Kai’s throat rumbled with a growl, a breath of flames licked over his teeth as he abandoned his weapons, loped forward on all fours and pounced, knocking the stunned blue ninja to the ground where they grappled and flipped and rolled through the dust.
Kai’s head lunges forward, teeth snapping together just a second too late to catch an arm. An electric kick to his stomach sends him flying back. Rolling tail over head once, then digging fingers and toes into the dirt till he slides to a stop. Crouched low to the ground, hissing and tensed to pounce again before something black and heavy jumped on his back, wrenching his arms behind him and pinning him in an unbreakable grip.
Kai kicked and screamed and flared his flames against stone skin until falling limp under Cole, exhausted and out of breath. A tickle in his throat turns into a cough, a wad of ash and spit splat on the tiles.
Cole sighs in relief slowly easing off the other in case he starts up again. Instead Kai keens, tiredly chasing the lost touch. Cole smirks, his fingers petting through the wild hair until the hot head drifts to sleep.
“Somebody please tell me WHAT THE HELL THAT WAS ABOUT?!!!” Jay shrieks after watching Kai throw a hissy fit underneath Cole, who was already taking the fire ninja to his room.
“Kai has seemed unusually stressed as of late. Perhaps he is feeling unwell?” Zane says
“Stressed? STRESSED? He tried to BITE me! He went full primal and chased me around like an animal! He grew a tail for Wu’s sake!!”
-
(later after someone goes to check on him, finds his bed buried under a mountain of blankets and clothes stolen from everyone, and runs to Wu)
Wu- “It appears young Kai is experiencing a nesting phase.”
“Nesting?”
Zane- “Nesting. The act of birds or dragons preparing to lay eggs and raise young.”
“He’s pregnant?!”
Wu  “Not necessarily. It is more likely that Kai feels like making one to make himself feel better during his illness.” Wu strokes his beard. “However, if he, or even any of you, decides on a partner in the future it might be possible.”
“He can GET pregnant?? But he’s a guy!”
Wu “Dragons are the very source of creation. Something as small as gender wouldn’t stop a determined dragon.”
“HOW does that work?! Why would he WANT to get pregnant?!!”
“I’ll tell you when you’re older. Maybe a few decades from now.”
-
Is Wu kidding? who knows~ :3 Also would a fever for a fire elemental rise enough to bake the air, and ignite the nest? or douse them into dangerous cold? Having trouble deciding.

Oh my god I was thinking of potential crossovers with Dune and just remembered Aro exists. Like if you drop any other character in Arrakis you would have a very hard time to get them understand the setting but Aro can read minds with a touch. By the way what do you think happens when a vampire eats a Sandworm, which venom is stronger? Or can a Bene Gesserit or Paul survive vampire venom with their witchy powers? I am thinking a starving Carlisle tries to eat one because there is no goddamn animals in that planet and immediately regrets everything.
Aro would have a leg up in that sense and the "he is virtually indestructible sense". Though I imagine he'd be very sad on Arrakis where everyone's blood tastes like this weird blue shit (canonically, in Twilight, humans with substances in their bloodstream/medical issues are notably less appealing than others).
But onto your questions
What Happens When a Vampire Eats a Sandworm
The thing about vampires is they seem to be extremely adapted to Earth. Their main food source is human (hooray, it's plentiful) and in a pinch they can subsist off animal blood, namely the Cullens seem big on mammals so we don't know if things like fish or lizards work out for them.
An alien sandworm with completely different blood that also produces a highly toxic hallucinogenic wunder venom that lets people see the past and the future and develop psychic powers? I don't think that's even going to smell remotely edible. We're not even talking animal edible, we're talking Carlisle would try and would vomit.
So, it's not so much that the worm's venom is more powerful it's just that... whatever vampires use to process the blood they ingest (do they still have livers? the world will never know) it's probably not going to like what that is and the vampire in question is going to vomit. The same way they do when they eat other materials they're not supposed to eat.
As to whether they'd trip balls or not... Well, probably not, but we don't know. Again, vampires vomit up other substances they can't consume, and we have no mention of any ability to get drunk or in any way poison themselves. Probably because they don't have livers the way we do and use something else to process/purify their blood intake. So, my guess would be no.
Can a Bene Gesserit/Paul Survive a Vampire?
No.
The thing about vampires is they move so fast that they could kill them long before they do anything. Their shot would be in that Paul specifically could foresee it happening extremely clearly, and simply choose the actions such that it doesn't happen, and the Bene Gesserit might maybe sort of kind of be able to guess it will happen and try their best to avoid it.
If the vampire's sitting around they can try to use the voice, but this may not work on vampires, as there's a very physical aspect to it that might not sound right to a vampire's ears.
So if a vampire makes them go splat, they're going splat.
But What About Venom?
Venom's a different story and the answer is probably yes. The Bene Gesserit, and Paul as well, are highly trained to be able to psychicly purge poisons from their bodies. This is how/why Jessica survives becoming a Reverand Mother and why only Bene Gesserit survive this process. Paul is notably trained in this as well.
Given we see that the venom can be sucked out in canon by Edward, I imagine a trained Bene Gesserit would have more than enough time to be able to purge it from their bodies with minimal/no side effects.

Tumblr media
SQUAD 1: CLOSE COMBAT AND BRUTE FORCE (FORCE SQUAD)
callie mains dynamo roller, orange is a 96 gal, and green is a luna blaster
Tumblr media
SQUAD 2: LONG-RANGE COMBAT AND SURVEILLANCE (CALLED SUPPORT SQUAD)
marie mains splat charger, blue is an e-liter, and pink is a squiffer
Tumblr media
SQUAD 3: SPECIAL WEAPONS (THE MOST INSUFFERABLE GUYS HERE)
3 mains n-zap, purple is a hydra, and green is an h-3
Tumblr media
AND THE TECH GUYS? NOBODY KNOWS WHAT THEY ACTUALLY DO BUT WHATEVER IT IS ITS WORKING
AND OF COURSE
Tumblr media
THE CAPTAIN OF THE SQUIDBEAK SPLATOON
moving on!!
ELABORATION ON SPECIAL WEAPONS SQUAD (+pearl)
Tumblr media
some inkfish have the ability to naturally activate specials, separate from the general inkfish ability to charge specials from Big Emotions. emotion special charge still needs an outlet, usually ends up being just an ink explosion without one, and as a result a non-natural special activation requires special weapon amplification or refinement tech of some kind. natural special activation is the ability to channel special charge into a natural special, which is a special that doesn’t require any outside amplification or technology to function as a special. natural specials charge with Big Emotions, obviously, but also can be passive or by turfing, or just at the inkfish’s sheer will in some cases. natural special activation isn’t limited to natural specials, if an inkfish has access to any special refinement tech, what they can do with special charge is altered. the refinement tech can amplify a special or refine it, but it’s near impossible to refine a special without amplification.
everyone in squad 3, and pearl, is capable of natural special activation. they each can channel special energy into one natural special each, each of them different. the ability to power up on command in the middle of a war is pretty useful, hence why there’s an entire squad dedicated to it. pearl is a tech guy because she makes and tests specials, but it’s all intuition and explosive trial and error. pearl isn’t an agent instead of a very bad tech guy because she does what she wants, and she wants to dick around with the cephalopod equivalent of WMDs.
ANYWAYS THE SPECIAL WEAPONS
Tumblr media
agent 3 can natural kraken, which can be amplified into splashdowns or krakens as we know them from splatoon 1, and later can be refined into reefsliders or triple splashdowns but we aren’t that far yet.
Tumblr media
ourple, who I will name later, has natural inktuition, which can be amplified into echolocator, and later refined into wavebreakers
Tumblr media
spout, who I will also give a name later, has natural inkvincibility, which can be amplified into ink armor, and refined into bubbler of splatoon 1, and can later be refined for invincibility in other specials and spawn armor.
Tumblr media
and obviously pearl has a natural wail, which can be amplified into the princess wail, then refined into killer wail and later the 5.1 version. there's a bunch of other refined wails laying around bc pearl keeps messing around with them though
i'm sure i don't have to go into much detail to get across what the other squads do. we've all encountered scarily cracked charger and roller mains
and that is all, thank you :3

More dragon stands au, this time with a few OCs
Tumblr media
Beach Boy is a sea serpent that's itty bitty, he's the same size class as Babyface but he has it mostly in length. He likes to sit around Pesci's neck like a scarf.
BB and Babyface are constantly wrestling. His hook teeth only extend when he's actually trying to hurt someone, so she's not in any danger.
Stone Free's glasses are a pattern around her eyes.
White Snake's discs are sort of like. He takes the soul of the dragon + memories of the master. It's a certain way he inhales that does this. The discs themselves are scales off his stomach. He's a legless serpent.
Foo is a colony of more than a dozen dragons that shoot younger versions of themselves. Think the Dreepy line.
World is the gold subspecies, Splat is the platinum. The gold subspecies is a very typical Western dragon, with a roar that stops time. Meanwhile the platinum is more visibly Eastern, but has small wings from Western ancestry. Their timestop roars are a little quieter.
Killer Queen is the size of a lioness. Like all the dragons of Morioh, she's an Eastern dragon. Diamond is the only exception, having wings due to his Western dragon father. They're vestigial however and don't let him actually fly, just glide a little further and jump a little higher.
CD is a little bigger than KQ, but her breath is explosive, she blasts out fire that explodes on contact. Over longer distances, there's a few snaps that get louder closer to the point of impact. If Kira wants them silent as he usually uses them, he needs her to bite down on the target and send the attack that way.
(Oh shit this ended up really long I'm sorry have a cut to save mobile users)
Watchtower are the 53 "cards". They have their usual hierarchy and different patterns. The Joker is still top dog and lounges on Murolo's shoulder most of the time, or sits peeking out of his pocket. They're all extremely small, but do have wings. They're like an annoying swarm of bugs. The kings have a more elegant "crown" of horns, the queens have more of a tiara, etcetera.
(OC) Symbiotic are twins, both little golden scaled dragons. They're small enough to wrap around a person's finger and turn into a metallic substance, locking in place. One has wings, the other does not.
Babyface creates Juniors with her stomach scales. They are specialized scales that act as "seeds". Melone soaks the scales in a blood sample, which Babyface then holds in her mouth to incubate until it's formed. The resulting dragon resembles the dragon of the target with similar powers. IE, the one we see in canon made from Bucciarati, it looks like Sticky Fingers with blue scales and portal generation- though it still has the typical Junior ability of turning living matter into inanimate objects.
However she can implant the scales into human women for faster incubation and less strain on herself. The baby dragon will consume the mother for energy. This is the method Melone usually chooses for a job.
(OC) Faultline functions similarly, being Babyface's sister. She takes a DNA sample and swallows it. When Melagrana needs to pull up a file, she "vomits" a scroll that contains all the information on the target.
Faultline is only the tiniest bit smaller than Babyface. They're not together often due to their masters' different jobs, but the second they are, one of them is pouncing the other for a wrestle.
(OC, Not Mine @jellyluchi) Since I've written about Fire Woman in this AU, my thoughts about her are that she's a drake with vestigial wings on her forelegs. Her mouth has a pattern that looks like bars are covering it, and it glows intensely bright when she opens it. As (one of) Grateful Dead's mate(s), he is constantly preening her scales and the small shock of feathers along her shoulders. She is a smidge larger than White Album, resulting in a lot of chaos when she's chasing Symbiotic and can't stop in time when one of them climbs into WA's fur.
Sex Pistols all have trouble getting up into the air, but they are extremely fast once they do. When the team is flying long distances, the six of them usually sit on another dragon's nose until they're at altitude, then dive off and zoom off up ahead of the leader- which is usually Sticky until GER is in the picture, then its her.
Purple Haze likes when their thunder sleeps in a pile. He will always choose to be the base of the pile. He likes the weight.
Lindwyrms technically can fly if they have wings on their forelegs. Purple Haze does- while Grateful Dead only has false wings. This is why only MiTM and LF can fly + carry someone in La Squadra.
There is one Metallica that seems to have a higher rank than the rest. This one is more of a "salamander" type of dragon, with an extra pair of legs and a longer body. Put any of them on a wood floor though and they're all scrambling to get traction.
White Album sheds every spring. Ghiaccio has considered gathering up that shed fur and having it spun into wool to make a scarf since it's so soft.
Grateful Dead will bite you if you try to walk into where he's hiding during molt. He has even bitten Prosciutto.
Moody Blues likes wearing hats. He will trill happily when he has literally anything on his head like a hat. He's also constantly nudging Abbacchio to try to make him smile.
Pre-PHF, Fugo had a harness to collect the saliva that Purple Haze would drool. The virus is in his saliva but it sent out in a smoke when he's fighting. When Haze is stressed, he drools the saliva, he just can't help it. And since Fugo hated him, he was constantly drooling, and needed a harness to catch the saliva to keep people safe.
The World can and will scruff smaller dragons. Do not test him, he will scruff all of his children.
Since Boho is a phenomenon stand that we never actually see at all, I'm picturing it as incredibly small. Small enough to fit under Ungalo's hat. It would grow a bit over time, assuming it had been given that time.
Gold Experience and Sky High would love to play together if they ever met. Sky High and his colony of rods would have a blast flying around Gold and dodging her as she snaps at them. Meanwhile, however, Under World wound think he's too good to play around and snap at his siblings if they get too close to him in their play.
Epitaph's eyes are usually closed as he rests on top of King Crimson's head until he's giving Diavolo or Doppio a vision. If Epitaph spits on you, he can give you visions too. Sorry, he gotta spit.
Stone Free is very similar to Crazy Diamond in being mostly Eastern, though her vestigial wings are a liiiittle bit bigger, making it so she actually can fly short distances.
(OC) Dream Again are triplets. One of them produces ink in a gland in his body, and he writes with his tail. The other two crawl on a person or object to read out its history. King Crimson tolerates them crawling on him, Epitaph is always snapping at them if they get too close. King Crimson's head is HIS seat.
Sticky Fingers enjoys preening his thunder, but he's not as much of a perfectionist about it as Purple Haze. Once the harness is off and Haze is allowed to preen the others, he goes ham cleaning every speck of dirt off GER.
Metallica and Sex Pistols both enjoy just letting gravity land them wherever when their thunders sleep in piles. The others will pile up, and then those two little colonies will just flop and fall. Gravity chooses one of Metallica to sleep on Grateful Dead's snoot, that is what gravity has decided.
When Beach Boy yawns, his hook fangs extend out. Be careful putting your hand near his mouth, he will accidentally hook you.

Wisdom | Power | Courage
Congrats team power for bodiying everyone into the floor!
------
I got inspired playing the splatfest and realised that these blorbos are a perfect fit and just had to draw them in the splat 3 timeline.
Unfortunately for me my tablet pen broke after a nasty drop, so I had to return to pencil and paper for the linework and then coloured it all digitally... with a mouse. Progress shots below cut!
Tumblr media
The raw scanned in page. Honestly I was getting quite impatient on Julie and had trouble with her leg but honestly it came out fiiiiine. I considered just snapping a picture then lining everything on my ipad instead, but you know what? no. I have a score to settle with god and that is to prove I can colour, shade and render everything with a mouse instead.
Tumblr media
Editing the whole picture to make it actually usable. Contrast + brightness + levels adjustment. I ADORE CSP's function of 'convert brightness to transparency'. It completely gets rid of the white background and gives me a transparent linework of this. Normally with traditional images like this youd have to make new layers on top of the linework all set to 'multiply'. I didn't really want to deal with the artifacts of that though, and it would slightly tint the linework too. So I opted for this method for the first time with a trad base.
Tumblr media
And all coloured. I know dapples are either pink or blue but i dont care actually theyre green now. The soft brush/spray paint tool is my favourite friend as well as the blend tool. And honestly the only place you can see this is done with a mouse is uhhh mint's tenta spots lmaoo

Side Order Mechanics Speculation
Or: These mechanics make no fucking sense under scrutiny what the fuck is going on.
Tumblr media
So, I've been looking over the palette screen, and trying to identify what certain aspects could mean. Up above is my conspiracy corkboard thing, but I'll go into detail below.
So, first of all, it's noteworthy that the design of a chip (including the pattern of it) responds to its "type." Right now we know of six different types: Power (red), Support (purple), Range (orange) and Mobility (blue) are all outlined in this screen, and the floor select shows that green seems to correspond with Drone features.
Tumblr media
That leaves yellow, which I assume is for Miscellaneous upgrades that don't fall under another category. The "Common Tones" part shows a smaller icon for the Support category, but it also has the yellow color chip class next to it:
Tumblr media
Now, labelling this as Miscellaneous is ultimately a guess due to the question mark implying that it's, well, random. However, the motion lines to the top left complicate this a good bit and mean that it could be something else, too. Maybe this has to do with increasing the drop rate of certain things (it bears some semblance to the Grizzco capsules, for example), or maybe it lets you change your sub weapon (representing a throwing arc for the bombs). Though given that's all not quite conclusive, I'm ultimately sticking with "Miscellaneous." As for "Common Tones," I believe this is a setting either belonging to a given character's Palette or something you can customize yourself entirely that makes certain types of chips more common. The bigger one is boosted by a lot, the other by not so much. This lets you aim for certain builds even from the start of a given run.
This is all pretty clear stuff so far, but I'll go into a lot more detail on my observations below, including the fact that the footage shown makes no fucking sense under scrutiny.
Tumblr media
Now, as for the color chips on the palette themselves. There's 4 rows of 9 spaces each for a total of up to 36 chips, with the player having collected 20 chips so far at the point of going into Floor 16 (sort of, it gets a bit complicated. I'll get to that later.) You can see that their color corresponds with their category, but beyond that there's subtle differences in hue, too. The orange color chip on the far left has a redder hue than the other Power-type color chips, and the Drone-type color chips also differ between being more green-ish or blue-ish. Notably, not all different chips also have different hues. The glowing chips on this screen are the "Ink Damage"-type chips, and there's three of them. The two red chips on the right side, then, must be Splash Damage (because there's two of them, and Splash Damage has gotten two upgrades), so the leftmost red chip is Main Firing Rate. And oddly Main Firing Rate has a different hue, but Ink Damage and Splash Damage share a color.
Tumblr media
The other ones that openly appear are pretty clear: The two purples are Ink Saver Main, the two oranges are Splash Radius, and then Mobility gets a bit odd. We know that one of the blues here is Swim Speed Up, and we know from the Floor Select screen that Run Speed Up uses the same hue of blue. So one of the four blues here is Swim Speed Up, the others are Run Speed. Probably. There's some weirdness I'll get to.
The ones that aren't directly named are a bit more of a mystery. The two green ones at the top left are Drone Splat Bomb most likely, because we saw that Drone Splat Bomb uses the same hue in the Floor Select and that screen showed us already having some Drone Splat Bomb points. The other Drone chips have a different hue, but the same pattern makes it clear it's still a Drone update of some sort. Maybe it increases the Drone's laser damage? While there might be other types of bombs you could unlock for the Drone (such as Burst Bombs or Suction Bombs), I don't believe that's what this one is, because the top right only shows the Drone as being able to use Splat Bombs. We also see the Drone both function as a constant Sprinkler in the trailer, as well as it throwing Burst Bombs. The latter part only appears on two frames of the trailer:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While at first it might seem like it's the player throwing the Burst Bomb, the trajectory and lack of animation on Agent 8 makes it clear that it's the Drone's doing.
And the two yellows are Misc. No clue what those could be.
Also, the left side menu shows how much you can upgrade each chip. Most go up to five, but Ink Damage and Splash Damage each go up to 9, with a big dot in the middle at 5. Is that just there for visual clarity, or does it signify a milestone at some point? Maybe that's how you get the "upgraded-looking" Dualies seen in a few shots, with the wireframes around them? It's also a bit odd that they both go so high even with only 36 total slots, but I assume that's for supporting very specialized builds.
Tumblr media
With that out of the way, let's talk about the top right side of the screen. It displays "Pearl's Palette," shows the main/sub/special you have, and the Drone's sub, as well as the highest floor you've gotten to (or cleared?) yet. Below that is the palette, with a little drawing of Pearl on it.
Tumblr media
My assumption is that as you progress through the game, you'll unlock other characters' palettes beyond Pearl. There's a few reasons for this: for one thing, calling it "Pearl's Palette" in particular is a bit odd. While Acht does address Pearl when she mentions putting chips into the Palette, which seems to imply the Palette is connected to the Drone in some way, the image of Pearl here is her real look, with the shades of the Damp Socks outfit.
Tumblr media
This is in contrast to the menu icon to get here, which shows the Pearl Drone. Clearly there's a distinction being made between the Palette menu, connected to the Drone, and Pearl's Palette, connected to real Pearl. This is also seen with the little icon of her on the Palette itself, highlighted in pink.
My conclusion is that there'll be different characters' Palettes. The pink Pearl icon on the right seems like the kind of thing that only exists to show off a character that can change. These Palettes will be the equivalent to characters in Isaac or the weapons in Hades: they offer different playstyles and increase replayability. I believe the weapon/sub/special loadout will be tied to the character Palette, too, with the Common Tones likely being customizable by the player regardless. I say this because Dualies/Curling/Reefslider also feels like a very "Pearl" loadout, given we know that Pearl plays Dualies, and Curling Bombs and Reefslider both encourage getting into people's faces.
Though I have to preemptively admit that Subs and Specials might not be locked to the Palette and can be freely customized. There's a shot in the trailer showing Eight with the dualies and a Sub line of about 30%, while in-game Curling Bomb costs at least ~45%, even with max investment of Ink Saver Sub. It's still possible that the upgrades to Ink Saver Sub in this mode are more potent than in multiplayer, however: Run Speed Up can get you at most ~145% of the default with a pure investment in multiplayer, but the upgrade shows that even just 3/5 upgrades of Run Speed Up get you to 140%, with two getting you to 131%. So it's not impossible that some investments of Ink Saver Sub could get Curling Bombs down to 30%, especially given that Eight is also dealing twice as much damage as in the very first scenes (which are likely without any color chips), so this scene seems to be pretty far into a run. Plus, while abilities in multiplayer have diminishing returns for balance reasons, for a singleplayer roguelike it makes sense to allow specialization and upgrading to a more extreme degree to make players really feel that they're getting stronger. Return of the Mammalians already had you being able to spam Splat Bombs when fully upgraded far beyond what Ink Saver Sub could accomplish.
Tumblr media
There might also be a Marina Palette that has a Brella, or a Callie one with a Roller, etc. etc. I also believe that the Palette might come preloaded with some color chips in future runs (or as an unlock), too, maybe. The first two chips in particular being the Drone Splat Bomb ones really makes me think that, because for a Pearl-themed loadout, starting out with strengthening the Pearl Drone makes a lot of sense.
Now, the number of chips. There's twenty chips visible in the UI, even though the player has only cleared fifteen floors at this point, which seems at odds with what seems to be one color chip per floor. I assume those are from a mix of potential starting chips and some form of shop inbetween floors. We see that you have a currency, and harder challenges give you more currency than easier ones, but nothing to spend it on yet. Given that it doesn't look like harder challenges reward inherently better chips, it's likely that there'll be a shop of some sort that'll regularly come up where you can exchange currency for some chips to let you get ahead of the curve.
Now for the weirdness.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are the descriptions for the individual upgrades. Splash Damage has 160% at 2/9 upgrades and 190% at 3/9, which seems to imply each level adds 30% to the damage. While this might diminish at some point, it certainly seems to go high up. At 5/9 you've already far surpassed 200%, and it likely goes up to 300% at least.
Next up is Run Speed up. I already mentioned that this goes up quite high, though this menu is showing diminishing returns: 131% at 2/5 and 140% at 3/5, with 0/5 at 100% and 1/5 likely around 120%. Either way, the step from 2 -> 3 is seemingly a good bit lower than previous ones. It's possible it tops out at 150% for a nice even number, but it also doesn't seem like investing two full chips just for that extra 10% is worth it, so it might go up to 160% maybe.
And lastly is Drone Splat Bomb. This shows a p cost, which is interesting. The Drone certainly doesn't seem to be using the player's bomb controls, because we see it firing bombs automatically while the player is shooting or doing other things. But it also can't be on the R Stick Press like a Special because the player already has a Special to use. My assumption is that the Drone will automatically toss a bomb once the player has painted the given amount of turf during a fight, which works with the general makeup of the Drone as more of a passive support. Level 2/5 for this is 180p and 3/5 is 160p, so it likely starts at 220p and goes down by 20p each step.
Here's where the weirdness start. We have the amount the chips upgrade the stats here, and we obviously know how many chips of each kind we already have. Given that we're being asked to upgrade each chip from 2 to 3, it goes to reason that we already have two of each type and adding a third, right?
Tumblr media
It tracks for Splash Damage and Drone Splat Bombs, but earlier I established that three of the blue chips were Run Speed Up while one was Swim Speed Up. Which at first seems to imply that there's a third type of blue Mobility chip, perhaps Intensify Action.
However, here's where it gets weirder. From this menu, from this state of the menu, we see the player select the Run Speed chip and insert it as their third Run Speed chip. So as the chip is inserted, the Palette should look like this afterwards:
Tumblr media
However, as the player confirms to take Run Speed Up, we see the Palette go from this...
Tumblr media
To this...
Tumblr media
Which makes no sense. The last chip in the Palette menu suddenly disappears and is placed again as the Run Speed Up chip for the Floor is placed. Instead of placing a new chip, the animation shows the placing of the last chip that was already in the Palette.
My first instinct was, "Oh, the Palette in the menu was showing what the Palette would look like if you picked the chip you were hovering over." However, that can't be it, because the Palette menu we saw was opened while the player was hovering over the first chip, the Splash Damage one.
So, option A is that this is all a bit of jankiness because this is prerelease footage. They probably hardcoded a Palette for this, and accidentally used the graphic for the Palette *after* getting Run Speed Up rather than the one before it, and the Palette in the menu should've actually looked like this all along:
Tumblr media
This would also explain the contradiction with the "Why does it show going from 2 to 3 Run Speed when we already have 3 Run Speed," because now the Palette only has 2 Run Speed Up chips and everything works out.
There's one other option that has the same functional outcome but a different explanation. It looks like there's some way to go back to, or maybe look at, previous floors:
Tumblr media
It's unclear what exactly this entails. Maybe it simply lets you look back at your run's history (though labelling that option like that is a bit weird), or maybe it lets you replay the last floor if you were unhappy with your performance on it. If the latter case is true, maybe what's happening is that the player already beat 16F with the Run Speed Up chunk, then they went back to do 16F again with the same selection. Potentially to get footage, maybe they were testing this feature at the time, I dunno. And going back would also mean giving back the reward you got (i.e. the Run Speed Up chip in this case). So maybe they went back to 16F after already having beaten it, and while the rest of the game registered that they should take away the Run Speed Up chip, the Palette display in particular hasn't implemented that part yet or something. I dunno.
Either way, this was everything I could think about for the mechanics at hand here. There also seem to be different types of levels, denoted by the icons to the left of the Floor indicators:
Tumblr media
Top one is likely the type of mission we've seen all over the trailer, where there's the fish skeleton enemies coming out of the black orbs and you need to take out the orbs as they spawn in or something. Though it's notably that the objects around the orb here don't really look like those fish enemies. The second mode has something to do with Splat Zones, maybe reusing some of the multiplayer maps and having you defend and/or take a Zone. The last icon is a complete mystery to me. Due to the arrangement of blocks my first guess is "platforming challenge" but honestly I have no clue.
Anyway, that's the post! Congrats for making it here! My head feels heavy now.

SplatoonMG4 CHAPTER 1: The Gays Meet for the First Time
(Third person)
It was currently…daytime.
Probably?
Well, that's all SMG3 could make of it. Wearing a watch just never really seemed too practical, considering that he would never need to know the time here. He just needed to go through his schedule. Was it a schedule, actually? No, more of…an instruction manual.
STRIKE MAP GUARDIAN 3 (Suction-Cup Lookout - Octoling Strike)
Always be on the lookout for members of the New Squidbeak Splatoon, especially their latest recruit, Agent Four.
If an NSS Agent is seen, immediately alert all Octoling soldiers around the map to guard the Mini Zapfish. Your map is Octoling Strike, a replica of the Inkling battle map "The Reef", and you should remain hidden in one of the many buildings around the map. Avoid engaging in battle at all costs.
If the map's soldiers are defeated, you must rush them to the nearest Respawn platforms as quickly as you can. Release at least ten Squee-Gs and evacuate until the map is cleared of all ink before sending the Octolings back in.
If confronted with no escape, we have supplied you with one weapon from our limited supply. Treat it with care, and do not break it.
DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, REMOVE YOUR HYPNOSHADES.
To be honest, sometimes SMG3 wasn't sure if the last instruction on the page was real. Maybe he was just imagining it. He did a double take, and-
-
-
-
What was he doing again?
Right, he was going to…check the Mini Zapfish capsules.
That was it.
Although, sometimes this job seemed a bit pointless. Why keep going? Why not just let them rest for a moment, why not just leave now? He had been so busy with this shit that he'd missed Octavio's concert. Oh wait, wasn't it 'Dj ZeR0' or something like that? Kinda cringy honestly.
So many people had left, yeah. Why not him? Why stay here? What was keeping him from-
-
-
-
What was he just thinking about…?
Suddenly, he heard a sound that was all too familiar to him…the sound of a certain Respawn platform linking to the soul of an Inkling.
Well.
Looks like it's time to start blasting some sweet Turquoise October in here.
~~~
"Octolings!"
Yeah, Four knew. Mario really didn't need to tell him that, but whatever. Not like he could just tell his boss to get off the line.
Agent Four, the newest NSS Agent, sighed. "I can't believe they're still trying to steal our power! Who are they even working for anyway?…I thought Zer0 was captured. Safely this time."
Luigi, the brother who originally recruited him, thought for a second. "W-well, we don't really know…since, m-most of them left, or we freed… It could be the ones that aren't free yet?"
That was kind of solid, Four thought, Maybe he's onto something. Hey, wait- is he right?… The blue-haired Inkling squinted at the Octolings. Are they still wearing Hypnoshades?
"Is it okay if I try something a little different?" he asked the brothers. They hesitated for a moment before Mario said yes, because they knew that even if he was splatted, he had a few lives left on this janky Respawn platform. Also, Mario liked dangerous stunts and chaos.
Four grinned. "Okay. Now let's see who's behind this all!"
First, he grabbed Belle's (Sheldon's) drone and turned off the Superjump target. Which was probably the most dangerous thing an Inkling can do, but that didn't matter, he had extra lives! Now it was time to launch himself at high speeds to a random spot in this place where he could end up anywhere from exactly where he needed to be to an Octarian dumpster in the city below.
C R A S H
Goddammit, that fucking hurt. Not really, since Inklings are strong, but yeah…who would've expected this? Who could've possibly expected that with infinite possibilities, one of them could be crashing through the side of a fucking building-
"AGENT 4! A-ARE YOU OKAY?!" Luigi was terrified, and for good reason. This was uncharted territory for the NSS…an Octarian city…
Wait, no. It was just one of those fake buildings the Octarians made to mimic The Reef. No wonder it was so empty.
What's that over there?
Was that…
A…
ZAPFISH?!
Whoa. Four didn't think he would find one of these little guys so unguarded…why was its capsule just sitting here?
"[Inkling.]"
He felt the uncomfortable sensation of ink that wasn't his own color touching him.
An Octobrush, and an Octarian…holding it to the side of his face. More specifically, an Octoling with violet tentacles, wielding a rather powerful-looking brush stained with magenta ink… definitely not a soldier, but what?
Carp. How would he even get out of this?
"[What's one of YOUR KIND doing here?]" the Octoling screeched. "[You've taken EVERYTHING. Our electricity, our king, our time, our LIVES. And you have the NERVE-]" he harshly glared at the Inkling- "[-to just BARGE INTO my workspace?! You…you absolute fucking dipshit!]"
Uh oh, that Octoling sounded…mad… Four thought.
Which was why it was horrible…that the Agent didn't understand a single word of the Runic that was being spoken.
"U-uuh, you're completely mistaken!" he exclaimed. "I-I'm one of you! Definitely! See, I…I knew the way here!" Four's eyes darted around the room for a second before he pointed at the hole in the wall. "Oh, wait…"
Yeah, he was not making it out of here alive. He just…uh…had to listen to this guy monologue for another minute before the sweet release of death- well, not really, since the whole Respawn platform thing. Wow…this guy will just not shut up. He must never get to monologue to anyone, that sounds…sad. :(
"[…And finally, after SO MANY defeats…we- no, I will strike you down, Agent Four!]" the Octoling yelled. "[Since I'm Strike Map Guardian 3, or SMG3, I've always felt like it has been my duty to…]"
Okay, this was actually kind of sad now. When will he stop…
Wait, 'SMG3'? That didn't sound like a word in Runic, Square, or Round…sure, maybe it was in Halfmoon, Bold, or Sign, but probably not since those were Inkling languages. Was that…his name?
He did hear about some Octarians from Beaker's Depot not having proper names.
"Uh- th-that's…cool! I'm sorry, but I have to get going…yeah…I'm totally one of you guys, so I have evil crap to do! My name is SMG4!" He weakly smiled. "Can I…"
SMG3 was not impressed. No one would be, though, the only thing really impressive about this was Agent Four's sheer stupidity. Lying to an Octoling. As an Inkling. About being an Octoling. While speaking in an Inkling language. Fucking idiot.
It wasn't a surprise when the Map Guardian finally smacked Agent Four to the ground with his Octobrush, leaving the Inkling with barely any HP… but he was still alive, and mildly annoyed now. "Hey! What was that for?! I listened to your villain monologue…"
At this point, Mario was done with just listening in silence. "Agent Four! You've gone coo-coo crazy if you think you can still get out of this! USE VIOLENCE!"
Unfortunately, it was loud enough for SMG3 to hear. Suddenly, his Hypnoshades flashed a bright red and he raised his Octobrush. "NO!" Mario screamed. "THOSE RESPAWN POINTS COST A FORTUNE IN POWER EGGS TO USE! YOU CAN'T DIE!"
Agent Four quickly shifted into his Squid form and began charging up an attack, deciding to try out that new Splatlandian technique. There was a flash of recognition on SMG3's face where he knew he'd seen that before, from other Octolings with experiences outside Octo Canyon. The people who were born on the surface, sometimes (mistakenly) captured and brought underground, had showed him…
Squid Surge. No no no- Four was going to- Three had to get out of the way!-
SEEK AND DESTROY
He swung his brush just a millisecond too late. He didn't want to. He had to. But why he did wasn't what mattered, the only thing that mattered now was that he would never be ordered around like this anymore. Blue ink stained his face, and he heard the Zapfish's capsule being shattered. The lights shut off in the building, leaving only the light coming in through the window from the screens that lined the Octoling Strike map's dome.
SMG3 heard the rush of ink that told him that Agent Four had launched himself out of the building, and probably the Octoling Strike map too. Everything was so much…clearer now, for some reason, the sights and sounds in reality.
A pair of Hypnoshades lay on the ground in front of him, cracked, flickering, broken.
gladiator, gladiator - a satosugu songfic
Tumblr media
It seems life had lost its luster, for Satoru. He was roused by his cheery ringtone as he was forced on another mission of more and most. The higher-ups took advantage of his aversion to sleep. As he was plagued by his one and only night after night. So he simply stopped. He often woke up with his hand reaching towards a man who was already gone. So, the higher-ups smiled and chuckled behind shoji screens, as the nights grew longer and longer.
body's more than just a flesh, you can sell it for success
The curse scattered like dandelions in the breeze. The viscera hitting the walls with a splat, his infinity making him so godlike. Untouched by the viscera and filth of those below. The bills filled his hand with impersonal fwhips. His skin became thinner, greenish-blue veins bursting from the galaxies of his eyes. His lips dried and cracked, his lip gloss abandoned as there was no one to taste it on him anyways.
i can get you dressed, wrap your body in excess
Chanel and Versace caressed his failing body. He smiled as his lips cracked over too-white teeth. He was gifted some of most. Empty thanks pressed into palms covered by the smooth water-like texture of infinity. They prayed as if their god wasn't falling apart at the seams. Groveling at the feet of a man who once held the power of the world in his hands. Gucci covered ribs that protruded just too-much. Hands reached up in a prayer to a god that had never heeded his only plea. A plea said over cooling blood and sobs in the skies of eyes. Screaming up at an unfeeling city sky.
give them something to obsess over
He winked, and flashed peace-signs when appropriate. Tongue licking his cherry-sweetened lips. Coming up in the tabloids just enough to keep his cult-following. His mask was cracking. A girl approached him, he snapped backwards with eyes blown, a purple  ready at his fingertips. Not, crouching and waving, giving an autograph and an exaggerated wave paired with a blown-kiss. He became less Gojo and more Satoru every passing day. His personality wearing thin. He himself was becoming more threadbare the more finery he was given. The more he was adored the more he fell apart.
i know your addiction's attention, let's start a show
Day in and day out, curses came and went by the hour. He was on a roll, leaving pieces of himself behind was simply a price. He smiled and sat in seiza for hours. The higher-up praised him, high off the power of Satoru untethered. Unbound and unraveling, destroyed on a pedestal of his own creation. Humans below their unfettered god, who was bleeding and cracking for their own sleep at night, screaming and clawing with the monsters under their beds. So others could sleep still, all while their savior tossed and turned. Dreaming of something that once was and could never be.
smash your competition, baby
show us some good entertainment
He was the Honored One, above both Heaven and Earth. Months passed, after Suguru’s death. He still felt the blood stuck under his fingernails. But no matter the amount of blood on his hands he was still pointed and told to destroy, special grades turned to dust. He smiled and looked to the side, but there was nobody to scold and scoff at him. Only a concrete wall, not a smiling person he would smile in return to. One who would retaliate and let him go to a nearby crepe shop, and kiss the whipped cream off his nose. All that was left is faceless people, hoping for a man (god?) to take their eyes off this meaningless life and be entertained by a man falling apart before them.
victory's your only payment
But, no matter the power he held, no matter how much false godhood he gained. He couldn't bring back the one thing he had lost. His payment, all his ‘good’ he had done. How much had he sacrificed? Just to be denied the warm touch of the one who could part the infinity. Touch and caress a god, kiss and understand . Understand one of such height and power. His payment in the hands of others in their blessings. He was the blessingless one who fought as his nights were gone. Fought and shielded so nobody else had to. Alone in the coliseum, hands raised in a salute to loneliness and destruction. He tilted his face to the sky.
