Personal Care Home, Vallenheim
Standing in the waiting room, staring out of the window at the parking lot outside of the personal care home, the gray-haired man appeared aloof and unapproachable to anyone passing by. That was, until he spotted his wife and eldest son step out of the town car. The corners of his mouth upturned as he saw his auburn-haired wife gracefully step onto the curb and walk toward the building. His son, Bertrand, followed behind her, his back straight, his expression stoic.
As the two approached the door, the man straightened his posture and smoothed his salt and pepper hair. He took a deep breath, preparing himself for the reunion he had been anxiously expecting after the years apart.
The door swung open, and his wife entered, her dark eyes lighting up as they landed on him. "Barthelemy," she breathed, a smile spreading across her face.
"Bethany," he replied, stepping toward her and taking her hands in his. "It is so good to see you."
"And you," she said, squeezing his hands in return.
Their moment was interrupted by their son, who cleared his throat. "Father," he said, inclining his head respectfully.
"Bertrand," the man replied. "I trust you've been taking proper care of your mother."
"Of course," Bertrand replied, a hint of defensiveness in his tone. "I wouldn't dream of doing otherwise."
Bethany chuckled. "He's done a fine job, Barthelemy, along with Maxwell," she assured him. "I couldn't have asked for better sons."
Barthelemy nodded, satisfied. "Good."
He then turned his attention to the doctor, who had been watching the exchange silently. "Is everything in order, Doctor? I'd like to get home to Cordonia as soon as possible."
"Yes, Your Grace," the doctor replied, handing him a thick folder. "Here are all the instructions and prescriptions you'll need. The nurse will be along shortly with the medication you need to take during your trip home. Just be sure to follow the dosage schedule carefully."
"Of course," Barthelemy replied, a hint of irritation in his voice. He loathed being told what to do, even by medical professionals. Unbeknownst to Bethany and Bertrand, he was playing, along with the doctor and nurse, the role of a lifetime: The miraculously awakened coma patient.
The doctor smiled apologetically. "Forgive me, Your Grace. I just want to make sure you have all the information you need."
"I understand, Doctor. And I appreciate your thoroughness."
The nurse entered the room with a wheelchair, which Barthelemy at once objected to.
"Surely, that's not necessary," he protested.
"It's just protocol, Your Grace," the nurse explained. "It's clinic policy.”
"Very well," Barthelemy sighed, reluctantly settling into the chair.
Bethany and Bertrand flanked him, each taking the handle of the wheelchair.
"Are you ready, Father?" Bertrand asked.
"As ready as I'll ever be," Barthelemy replied.
The Cordonian Royal Polo Club
"Hey, Liam, I thought I'd find you out here," Drake called out as he approached the stable, his boots crunching on the gravel.
"Oh, hey Drake," Liam answered. "I didn't think you were coming until later."
"Yeah, well, I finished my rounds early, and I thought I'd come by and see how you're doing. How was the New Year's Ball?"
"It was excellent," Liam smiled, his mind flashing back to his romantic interlude with Lady Sophie. "We had a lot of fun."
"I'll bet you did," Drake smirked, knowing that his 'smitten' best friend personally asked Sophie to attend.
"It's not like that," Liam protested, though his ears turned slightly pink.
"Mmm hmm.”
"It's not ..." Liam started.
"Whatever you say, Liam." Drake chuckled, shaking his head knowingly.
"Anyway," Liam said, changing the subject, "I'm just getting started on the polo drills."
"Mind if I watch?"
"Of course not."
Drake sat on a bench while Liam mounted his horse. His crisp white polo shirt accentuated his tanned muscular physique with his riding breeches and boots.
"All right, boy, let’s see what you can do," Liam calmly spoke, gently kicking the horse's flanks.
The horse took off like a shot, galloping across the field at top speed.
Liam leaned forward, urging the horse on.
Drake watched, transfixed, as Liam and the horse moved as one, their bodies in perfect sync.
"That was impressive! Excellent!" Drake called out, as Liam brought the horse to a halt in front of him.
"Thanks," Liam replied, breathing heavily. "He's a dependable and efficient steed," giving the horse a pat on the neck.
Liam dismounted and accepted a bottle of water and towel from an attendant. As Liam and Drake walked toward the clubhouse, the ranch hands steered the thoroughbred back to the barn.
“That reminds me, Drake. Are you still available to join my polo team for the fund-raising event in Portavira next week?”
“Yes, Mel and I are looking forward to kicking noble ass." Drake grinned knowing that Neville was on the opposing team.
"I still need to find one more player since Rashad had to cancel."
“What about Sophie? Melanie tells me she played polo in New York.”
“She mentioned she studied dressage back in the U.S. and was thrilled to learn that Marabelle was quite proficient. That skill could come in handy for the team.” Liam pondered aloud.
“Sophie is a skilled rider, and she would be a terrific addition to the team, Li.”
“I can't wait to see her ride again," Liam responded, smiling,
"Uh huh, I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun," Drake smirked.
Liam sighed, shaking his head. "Not everything has to be a double entendre, Drake."
"I know, but it's so much more fun that way," he cheekily responded.
University of Cordonia, Capital
"I can't believe it's been a week since the New Year's Ball," Sophie exclaimed, taking a bite of her sandwich. "Time seems to be flying by."
"I know," Maxwell replied, stirring his salad. "I feel like I need to plan the next Beaumont Bash already!"
Sophie laughed. "Do you ever stop thinking about these events?"
"Not when there's so much work to do to organize," Maxwell grinned. "But that's what makes me so good at it."
"You certainly are, but Max, this is your last semester...don't start something you can't finish."
“I don’t have to worry about my grades; I have already met the requirement to graduate with honors.”
"I've been thinking," Maxwell said, a mischievous glint in his eye, "about a different theme for the next Beaumont Bash after my graduation."
"And what theme were you thinking about having?" Sophie asked, knowing exactly what was coming.
"I'm going to make it a costume ball!"
"I knew it! That sounds like so much fun," Sophie grinned.
"It will be, and you'll be celebrating your first-year anniversary as a Cordonian.”
"Of course, I'll be there.”
"So, how are things with Liam going?" Maxwell asked, his eyes twinkling.
"Good," Sophie blushed. "We had a great time at the New Year's Ball."
"Did you have a good time, or 'a good time'?" Maxwell waggled his eyebrows.
"Maxwell!"
"Okay, okay. I will not push."
"What did I miss?" Daniel asked, as he grabbed a chair to sit down.
"Sophie was just telling me about her New Year's kiss with Liam," Maxwell winked.
"Ooh, do tell."
"There's nothing to tell," Sophie laughed, her cheeks burning.
"Come on, Soph, give us all the deets," Daniel prodded.
"Fine. We kissed. It was amazing."
"I knew it!" Maxwell exclaimed.
"So, when's the wedding?" Daniel joked.
"Shut up," Sophie retorted, laughing.
"Seriously, I'm happy for you. It's been a long time since I've seen you this happy, Squirrel."
"Thanks, Daniel."
"So, how are you doing with your Dad coming back tomorrow, Max?" Daniel inquired.
"I'm okay. I mean, I am glad he is better. But I do not know if I am ready to face him yet.”
"It's still so weird to me that you and Sophie are related."
"Yeah, it's a small world," Maxwell chuckled.
"No kidding. So, what is the deal with your Dad, anyway? What was he doing all that time?"
"He was in a coma," Maxwell replied, his voice soft.
"Oh, shit. I am so sorry, Max."
"It's okay. It's just..." Maxwell paused, looking uncomfortably at his hands.
"What?"
"It's hard to know what to believe, you know? After everything he put us through."
"I get that. But don't forget, he's still your Dad."
"He was a shit one, though," Maxwell pointed out.
Sophie put her hand on Daniel’s arm, “Let’s change the conversation, Dan.”
"It’s all right. I always knew that I would have to deal with it eventually. But right now, I just want to focus on graduating and figuring out my next steps."
"That sounds like a good plan," Daniel agreed.
"Yeah. It'll all work out in the end."
"That's the spirit"
Daniel slid his binder under his arm, "... see you guys later. Oh, and Max, just remember, you've got this."
"Thanks, man."
Maxwell watched his friend leave, feeling grateful for the support.
"He's right, you know," Sophie began.
"About what?" Maxwell looked at Sophie
"You've got this. No matter what happens with your father, you will be okay. You're stronger than you realize."
Maxwell sighed. "I know you are right. I am also grateful that Mom will be there as a buffer for you."
Sophie wrapped her arm around him.
"It will be fine.
Now, let's get to class before we're late."
Sophie and Maxwell walked together out of the dining hall to their next classes, feeling bolstered by each other's support.
Cordonian Royal Palace
King Constantine sat in his study, staring out the window.
After hearing the devastating prognosis about his health from his personal physician, he directed his queen to track down and summon Leo as soon as possible. Regina, to her credit, tried to assuage her stepson’s concerns as to Constantine's urgency when she found him in the palace gymnasium.
However, Leo knew that his father would not have requested his presence so suddenly unless the news was dire.
Constantine stood up as Leo and Regina walked into his office, his posture stiff, his face grim.
Leo looked at his father and at once sensed the seriousness of the situation.
"Father, you wanted to see me?"
"Yes, son," Constantine said, his voice low. "I'm afraid I have received some rather unpleasant news."
"What is it?" Leo asked, his concern piqued.
"I've just come from a meeting with the royal doctors, and they've given me a prognosis."
"Prognosis?"
"Yes," Constantine said, his expression darkening. "They've determined that my health has deteriorated to the point where I can no longer carry out my duties as king."
Leo's blood ran cold. He knew what was coming next.
"W-what are you saying?"
"I'm saying that my time as king is over. And yours has begun."
"What?" Leo swallowed loudly.
"You're going to be crowned king, Leo. And you will ascend the throne immediately."
"I have advised the Prime Minister to make the formal announcement tomorrow morning to the country."
"I have begun preparations for your Royal wedding to Madeleine as well." Regina added.
"What? No!" Leo shouted.
"Calm yourself, Leo," Constantine admonished.
"How can you ask me to calm down?" Leo demanded, his hands shaking. "You're asking me to give up my life, my freedom. My future."
"As the Crown Prince, you know your duty to your country is paramount. It is what you have been preparing for since birth."
"No. I won't do it." Shaking his head from this unexpected shock.
"Don't be so dramatic, Leo," Regina said, her tone exasperated. "This is your birthright.”
"It's not drama," Leo insisted. "I will not marry Madeleine. I don't love her. And she doesn't love me."
"Love has nothing to do with it. You are betrothed to her noble house," Constantine stated. "This is about duty and honor."
"And I won't be bound by either," Leo declared, his eyes blazing. "If I have to marry her, I'll abdicate. You can't make me be king."
Constantine's jaw clenched, and he stared at Leo with a mixture of anger and disappointment.
Leo turned and stormed out of the room, leaving his father and stepmother behind him, fuming.
Constantine sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "He'll come around, Regina."

It wasn’t just one post before, I remember reading a couple other things after that one but it looks like they’re gone now. Can’t remember exactly what they said but again it really is just the sort of trustafrian-esque superior intellectual posturing pretentious inaccessible flex of it all. You may be from an oppressed group but no offense literally ALL of it is so SO deeply and incredibly white, privileged, and out of touch. That’s what I mean by a “somewhat” cold take. It’s not that you’re all wrong and never was, but I read the first post and others after it and it’s kind of like okay can we just collectively like get a grip plz?? Regarding the leftist spheres thing I mentioned and beyond. Those kind of sentiments are what reminded me of the post that I originally pasted into the msg. Bc like I said it wasn’t an exact match but just some of it and mainly the sentiment of it. The sentiment that you know better, when really it came across more as a retaliation over something you feel left out over amongst fellow queer folks. It was never just about pointing out history and it seems a bit delusional to claim that tbh!! You seem perfectly nice and smart but if I hear another white nyc upper middle class academia type queer claim to be a dialectician or some other shit I will start sawing my limbs off like fr. If you wanted to point out historical realities and show everyone how smart you are with how much you’ve read and everything you know then please for the love of god just do that what’s the point of the hoops you’re jumping through to get there. What I think is “corny” is publically attacking another random queer person’s mostly harmless post about what they feel in bdsm as a means to your end, whatever end you feel that is idk. It’s not about being overly positive and forcing it through that funnel. Bc obviously history is not always positive and sex is NOT always positive. But if someone oppressed feels positive about their kink/bdsm related stuff, even if you personally feel it’s misguided, sex can be a very emotionally wrought and difficult thing for everyone so it’s the fact that you felt necessary to criticize them for that. Idk like everyone has some level of illusion regardless of the denial of that or not so what’s the fucking point of it all? Truly idk yeah it’s just all so bizarre feeling to me! Like what do you do when you have to meet and interact with other real queer folks, poor people, the “uneducated” etc. outside of your lower east side insufferable bubble?? Do you explode? Do you school them into the revolution? Lmao you seem sweet and cool and all just a bit unreachable in a very played out and tired way so yeah idk I was trying to like word everything “respectfully” or professionally or whatever bc that’s what you do but it doesn’t really matter bc when it gets down to it that’s what it is it’s the pretension and everything else that comes with that but idk I’m sure you get that so please don’t think I’m just trying to hate on u!! I originally messaged to open the dialogue so I’m glad you responded and made the space for that. It’s just frustrating to witness as someone who is not even close to rich, highly educated, well traveled well read living in a fairly accessible city etc bc I was simply not given those same privileges or opportunities to be…
this is crazy you literally asked me for recommendations on stuff to read, if me listing stuff i recommend and explaining my train of thought is showing off how much i read and being pretentious idk what to even say. why are you telling me to get a grip

However many mutuals, 15 questions. Thanks @dodger-chan for tagging me, it was cool to learn about you!!
1. are you named after anyone?
My government name is just a name my mother thought was pretty, with the middle name being a family middle name. The name I go by currently (sometimes, anyway) is after a character in an indie movie.
2. when was the last time you cried?
Oh god, two days ago? I cry so much. I feel things super deeply and I cry very easily. It's something I've struggled with my entire life and have tried to keep heavily in check due to the whole "white woman tears" thing, but emotional regulation is not a strong suit of mine.
3. do you have kids?
I do not and I don’t think I will have any. I admire people who have them, and I actually like kids! I just don’t think I’m meant to be a parent. I think when I'm older and more financially stable, I'd like to foster teenagers.
4. do you use sarcasm a lot?
To some extent. I used to be a lot more sarcastic, but a well of tenderness has sprung up inside me and replaced it with sincerity. It makes me feel a hell of a lot better day to day.
5. what sports do you play/have you played?
I’ve done swimming and skating, and I did the standard sports in gym class. I’m decidedly not a sports person but I do think jocks are very hot, haha. The exercise I do currently is solo stuff (walking, running, weight lifting, yoga) or stuff that's technically exercise but more fun (dancing! zumba!).
6. what’s the first thing you notice about people?
Their posture and their hair, two things about myself that I am very fixated on so I zero in on them with others. And, of course, what they're wearing!
7. what’s your eye colour?
Blue-ish.
8. scary movies or happy endings?
I refuse to choose! They both have value and there’s room for both in my life! My favorite genre is horror comedy if you couldn’t tell.
9. any special talents?
I think people consider the writing and music thing special, but they're just essential parts of my being, so here are things I consider special: can cook a decent meal out of whatever is in my house. I am good at lip syncing. I can accurately guess the beat drop in basically any song.
10. where were you born?
NYC.
11. what are your hobbies?
Writing, reading, making music, theater, trivia, collaging, road trips, hiking, beach going in the summer.
12. do you have pets?
Not anymore :( I recently had to put my cat to sleep. I want a pet again in the future, and when I'm a bit more financially stable I definitely want a dog.
13. how tall are you?
5’3.5” (161.29 cm)
14. favourite subject at school?
English for the conventional stuff. But really, Chorus of any kind. I went to a performing arts high school and I loved that for four periods out of my school day, I got to sing.
15. dream job?
I'm not certain if I have a dream job! I kind of want to do a bit of everything. But right now, I'm working toward something I really like -- community outreach and guest experience at a cultural center, which may turn into event planning and hosting later on.
tagging @tony-buddenbrook @cchapsticck @laundrybiscuits @senorablack @campgender @r-o-s-e-f-i-r-e and whoever else wants to do it!

Name: Adiel Miller
Age: 27
Gender: None, they barely align with ‘human’ fuck having a gender.
Pronouns: Any and all, with a personal love for ‘it/its’, a sort of reclamation of the dehumanizing language it was raised with. (Practically, you can mix and match, or just pick one and use it, it’s all good)
Lifepath: Streetkid
Occupation: Doll at a dollhouse that works with a number of corpo hotels and short term rental style hotels in Downtown. Can be found in a number of BDs still knocking about though.
Cyberware: Doll chip, prototype long term behavioral chip, scratchers and big knucks (reinforced nails and knuckles that are concealable and look like standard human parts)
Sexuality: People hot. That’s about it.
Born and raised in NYC. Their parents worked themselves to the bone to get by and take care of him, but it was always a struggle. Maybe the city wasn’t as bad as Night City is now, but it was still a far cry from safe or easy. When it was around 15, and already getting into trouble and running around acting like he had a damn clue, Arasaka (subject to change what corp, I just thought it tied in with their vibe) started contacting parents of minors with records. Offering them an opportunity. A bright future and a new start for their son, get them out of trouble and away from bad influences before things get worse. All it took was signing away its bodily autonomy and they got a good payout and one less mouth to feed.
They were testing out some more long term behavioral chips targeted at wealthy families, a hopefully safer and more useful version of what was already in use in juvenile correction facilities. A fully customizable range, as much or as little control as wanted across a host of 'problem' behaviors. Even focused on pushing manners and etiquette. It could dissuade kids from indulging, make them obey their parents without question, or just give them a ‘helping hand’ in sitting still and focusing on school. A replacement for conversion therapy, fat camps and drugs, all in one easy package that could be installed when your kid went in for routine work. They never needed to know! But of course that sort of work needed thorough testing before going to market with people who could afford it, and having empirical proof of its efficacy was always good for marketing. 'This wonderful neuralware could make even the worst kids act like a child you'd be happy to have next to you at for press conferences and family dinners'.
A controlled environment, classes to show the improvement rate of those with the chip and those without. Little corrections to strength of influence, fine tuning and fixing it up as they went. So what if some other kids never came back from the surgery room? Price of progress. They’d do big demonstrations pretty frequently, every few months, showing off test scores, video comparisons of posture, attitude, vocabulary use, antisocial behaviors etc. etc. Then the suits visiting would get a chance to interact. To test the parameters themselves, screaming abuse or even pushing whatever sorry sack was chosen for the demo around, proving that these kids - most of which, like Adiel, had some history of violence - would never argue back to those they were told to obey.
Few short years later, Adiel was around 18, everything seemed golden. Working as intended. Even kids they took the chips out of, or turned them off in the case of some earlier models which couldn’t be safely removed, didn’t seem to be suffering the same level of addiction and withdrawal as seen in traditional behavioral chips on the market. There wasn’t NONE, but it was a manageable amount comparatively. At that point, they turfed everyone out, loosed unto a world they’d been isolated from for a few years, and in the case of a fair number of them, stuck with various degrees of control still implanted in them. ‘A reward for their help’. Saying it would help them stay on the straight and narrow, when really, in the world around them, it just set them up to be manipulated and controlled.
They put protections on the hardware, and the software was heavily encoded. No one Adiel has gone to for help has been able to safely remove it, and the rumor was that someone who tried triggered some sort of anti piracy/corpo espionage failsafes and them and the ripperdoc ended up mulch. Even after it entered the market during Arasaka’s big push in the early 2070s to get back in with the NUSA and free states money, it took money to access the kind of docs who had it on the shelves, and even when he scraped together enough it turned out what they had going was different enough from the market release that it was still a risk.
So it’s still there. Nearly ten years and a cross country relocation later. Despite everything it went through because of Arasaka, they are the reason he moved to NC. When the city became the international hub it was, and Arasaka’s new north american headquarters, Adiel figured it was their best chance. Get back on their radar, get a foot in that door, and get the damned thing removed or turned off so they could get back to some semblance of a normal life where they doesn’t have to avoid everyone in white coats, expensive suits, or decked out in arasaka combat armor. Eventually, Addy was able to get hired. Went in for a physical and for them to check its doll chip and make sure he didn’t have any sort of spyware installed, made the mistake of telling the doc checking it over what was up, and got sent away with the promise they’ll look into it… Only he woke up the next day to a termination message. No more arasaka job, no more answers, no more way in.
And that leads us to here. Burnt out from working non stop to get to NC and then get in with Arasaka, only for it to fall apart. Found working as a doll and sticking to hobbies far away from armed guards, docs and corpos, was the best way to control when he was near people who could fuck with him. Then the fancy suits were already paying for their time, and they didn’t have to remember doing what they said.
One of the only good things that came out of his time with Arasaka was the opening of doors and access to education and the time to explore. Where it grew up there weren’t any stars visible. Even outside of the city the most you could see were satellites that were near enough to shine through light pollution. Getting to see stars, not only as they used to be, but through flicks and even BDs from orbit. To feel so small was freeing. Getting there is something it longs to do.
Any sort of hobby or task that can be repeated methodically, over and over, to practice and perfect, is the kind of thing Adiel leans into. Repetition, focusing so completely onto the task over and over, helps to calm it down, to think things through. Worryingly, he’s not sure if this was always the case, or if it’s yet another side effect. One that can have it so completely wrapped up in a drill that they don't stop to rest or eat or anything until made to. Shifting that focus sucks, and getting pulled out of it can be jarring and stressful.
A side effect of the behavioral chip is a sort of mirroring. His posture, inflection, language use, it seems to shift and alter depending on who it’s talking to. Reacting to the people around it to fit in. Well. He thinks it’s a side effect, it could also just be a survival method because of how he grew up.
#my vp#new bub#the like under the cut is a lot of exposition and world building stuff#went in and changed up some pronouns in the write up cause addy was not a 'fuck human gender' kinda doll when i wrote it xD#but to emphasize - it doesn't care ic their opinion is none of it matters so they don't give a fuck#you aren't misgendering adiel by calling him anything or using any gendered terms#dude works so does babygirl#too punk to fuck (cyberpunk)

The Rise of Personal Trainers in NYC: Tailored Fitness for Every Lifestyle
New York City is synonymous with hustle, ambition, and a fast-paced lifestyle. As the city that never sleeps, it’s also home to a growing demand for personal trainers who provide customized fitness solutions for its diverse residents. Whether you're a Wall Street executive looking to stay fit during a hectic work schedule or an artist searching for balance, personal trainers in NYC are shaping up the fitness landscape.
The Personalization of Fitness
One size doesn’t fit all when it comes to fitness, especially in a city as dynamic as New York. Personal trainers here understand the varied needs of their clients. From high-intensity interval training (HIIT) to yoga, strength training, or even marathon preparation, trainers are equipped to create individualized programs that suit different goals and lifestyles.
Unlike standard gym memberships or cookie-cutter classes, working with a personal trainer allows for a tailored approach. Trainers take into account everything from fitness levels and injuries to nutrition habits and mental health, ensuring that clients receive holistic support. This level of personalization is key for busy New Yorkers who need efficient, effective workouts that fit seamlessly into their schedules.
Convenience Meets Expertise
Another factor driving the rise of Personal trainers in New York is the sheer convenience they offer. Whether it’s an early-morning session before heading to the office or a late-night workout after a long day, personal trainers are available to meet their clients wherever and whenever they need. Many trainers will come to a client’s home, rooftop, or nearby park, allowing for flexibility without sacrificing expertise.
With a focus on science-backed techniques and professional certifications, NYC’s personal trainers bring a level of expertise that often surpasses traditional gym instructors. Many have extensive backgrounds in fitness, sports medicine, or specialized disciplines, ensuring that clients not only get a great workout but also benefit from a trainer’s deep knowledge of body mechanics and injury prevention.
The Digital Shift
The pandemic shifted many aspects of life, including how New Yorkers approach fitness. While gyms were closed, many personal trainers pivoted to virtual sessions, helping clients stay active from their living rooms. Even with gyms reopening, virtual training remains popular due to its accessibility and convenience. This digital shift has allowed trainers to expand their reach beyond the boroughs, offering services to clients across the globe while maintaining their NYC-based expertise.
Specialized Training for Every Need
New York City’s personal trainers cater to a wide range of fitness needs, and specialization has become a major selling point. Whether someone is preparing for a marathon, recovering from surgery, or seeking postnatal fitness support, there’s a trainer with the specific skill set to match.
For example, some trainers focus on weight loss and body transformation, offering meal plans and accountability to help clients reach their goals. Others are trained in corrective exercise, helping clients rehabilitate after injuries or improve posture and mobility. The wealth of specialization means that no matter the fitness goal, there’s likely an expert personal trainer in NYC ready to help.
The Investment in Health
Hiring a personal trainer in NYC is undoubtedly an investment. With sessions often ranging from $100 to $300 an hour, it’s a commitment that not everyone can afford. However, for many New Yorkers, the benefits far outweigh the costs. The ability to work one-on-one with a fitness expert not only accelerates results but also ensures that time spent exercising is safe, effective, and enjoyable.
Many trainers also offer packages, small group sessions, or semi-private classes, allowing for a more affordable way to receive individualized attention. For those who prioritize their health and fitness, personal training has become a valuable tool for long-term wellness.

Yoga and Meditation Near Me
Yoga and meditation near me are two complementary practices that can help you achieve peace of mind, physical well-being, and emotional stability. While yoga focuses on postures, breath work and movement, meditation is a still, seated practice that uses techniques like mindfulness or visualization.
Located in the heart of NYC, Heights Meditation & Yoga is a non-profit community organization serving Washington Heights and Inwood. The studio offers drop-in classes as well as a variety of workshops and retreats.
Dharma Yoga Center
Established in 1975, Dharma Yoga Center is one of New York City’s first and most influential yoga centers. Its founder, Sri Dharma Mittra, is known for his grace and humor, and for a yoga practice that is both physical and meditative. He also taught that the purpose of yoga is to reach self-realization (gaining absolute knowledge of the True Self).
Whether you want to increase your flexibility, strengthen your core, reduce stress, or improve your sleep, Dharma yoga and meditation offers many classes to meet your needs. Some classes are more physically challenging, while others are more meditative.
The front desk staff at DYC is friendly and welcoming. Joann, the heartbeat of DYC, is an unwavering administrator who ensures that each student feels valued and supported. She has a smile on her face all the time and is always willing to help. She is a true gem!
Yoga Farm
Yoga on the farm, or “yoga in nature” as some like to call it, has become a worldwide phenomenon. It offers the opportunity to connect to nature and the body in a safe and supportive environment. It promotes health and wellness for all and is accessible to people of any age, ability, or experience.
New York-based instructor Virginia Bocchicchio teaches yoga for all abilities at Clover Brooke Farm in Ithaca, where yogis can stretch and breathe among the Nigerian dwarf goats who serve as the class’s live audience. Beginner-friendly flows and restorative poses cultivate strength and stability. Classes are held in a restored barn when the weather permits and in a converted, heated hayloft if not.
Bow to the azure waters of mythical Ithaca, where Odysseus returned after his 10year Odyssey, on this retreat in an island village ringed by green hills and tranquil bays. The week-long retreat at the peaceful yogic sanctuary Itha108 includes twice daily movement, breath and relaxation.
Meditation Center
In an age of information overload and constant distraction, meditation is a practice that can help people focus their attention and develop a sense of calm. It can also improve mental health, improve sleep quality and reduce stress levels. In fact, regular meditation may increase brain size and gray matter, boost intelligence and creativity, and lower blood pressure, heart rate, cholesterol and the buildup of plaque in coronary arteries.
New York City has several meditation centers that offer a variety of classes. One of these is Awarehouse NYC, which provides a serene space for individuals to practice mindfulness and meditation. The studio offers a range of meditation techniques and styles to suit the needs and preferences of its clients.
Mindfulness meditation is rooted in Buddhist traditions and encourages singlepointed concentration. Transcendental meditation, on the other hand, involves repeating a mantra to transcend ordinary thought and enter a state of deep awareness. Yoga nidra is another popular form of meditation that incorporates breathing exercises and visualization to induce deep relaxation.
Yoga Retreat
Whether you’re an experienced yoga meditation practitioner or a beginner, there are retreats that fit your specific needs. These retreats usually provide a variety of activities that promote physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. You can also participate in outdoor excursions and eat a healthy diet. These experiences can help you break out of the pattern of a hectic, urban lifestyle and find true rejuvenation.
Most retreats take place at vacation resorts or specialist spa facilities. They may offer a combination of daily yoga sessions with luxury experiences like a floating sauna and massages. The tranquil environment of a retreat is the perfect way to unplug from the stresses of life and focus on mindfulness and self-reflection.
Often, retreats are held in beautiful natural surroundings like mountains or forests where the sounds of honking cars and traffic fade away. The chirping of birds and the smell of fresh air help to reduce stress levels and promote relaxation.

pottery week 4/6
i can't believe it's been a whole month since i started. unfortunately, i've been lazy/preoccupied with yoga, that i haven't gone in to practice outside of the scheduled class. today, we spent half the class trimming and half the class throwing new things. i understand it a bit more each time. i trimmed two pieces and only threw one. i cancelled my yoga classes for the next two days and plan on going in tuesday to practice throwing.
side note: since starting pottery, i've been having aches and pain i've never experienced before. posture is so important, but i'm still a noob. one week, my palm hurt. another week, my ankle hurt. this week, my neck hurts.
yoga: i just completed my 11th class this month today. yesterday, i felt kinda lightheaded/weak during a heated class, and thought i may be overexerting myself. so i'm scaling back. i have four classes planned this week but two are non-heated flow + restore. i've also been behind with the C&S videos, naturally i hope to get on track once yoga is scaled back.
piano: slow, but am learning off pianote to play river flows in you.
apartment living: we've had this discussion seriously multiple times in the past, and i've bothered the leasing coordinator countless times (i'm sure she's super annoyed of me) without following through. we're still on the fence about upgrading our apartment. if we were to upgrade to willoughby, we'd have to pay a whole month for a transfer fee. if we stay within dobro, it'll be $1k to transfer. regardless, we have to give a 30 day notice. it would be beyond lovely to have a 1 bedroom apartment (with a nice view and sunlight), but at this time, we are unsure if it's worth the cost (~$1,700/mo more) given the uncertainty.
i've been so stressed out about everything. things keep changing and below are the current possibilities:
matt received per diem offers at both harbor and huntington. harbor guarantees 2 shifts a month minimum, up to 7 shifts. huntington has no guaranteed shifts. we can move back with no full time job, if he can possibly find some part-time work to supplement the per diems. however, we lose stability, benefits, and loan forgiveness. if this is the situation, we should probably save money by not upgrading.
he has an interview with bakersfield this week. i initially had mixed feelings about it (never thought i would end up in bakersfield), but everything else about the job checks out. if bakersfield works out, there would be stability and relocation coverage. in this situation, i'd be happy to upgrade our apartment to live more bougie/ comfortably for our final months in nyc as a last hurrah.
matt keeps the NYU job and flies back to do per diem. then, he keeps stability, benefits and loan forgiveness, but the long distance traveling + working will be quite rough. here, we can technically upgrade our apartment too, but would it be worth it if he needs to fly out every month?
with the current possibilities, i think #2 is the best case scenario. as it's been almost a year + of uncertainty, i kinda just want to run with something "good enough" as soon as possible to have more peace.

The Common Mistakes You Should Avoid While Taking Yoga Classes
If you are not feeling delighted to join the gym or any intense workout session, go for Yoga Classes in NYC. Obviously, yoga and meditation have been practiced since ancient times and are now a classic choice to stay fit. Wait before you get excited to join yoga classes. Here are the common mistakes you can avoid while taking yoga sessions.
Strain on Yourself: Don’t let your breaths and body strain unnecessarily. The important thing is to feel comfortable with your yoga and meditation sessions instead of letting yourself be discomforted. If you are okay with it, don’t hold your breath for longer. However, take your breaths deeply to improve your circulation and oxygen flow in the bloodstream.
Overexerting Yourself: Yoga ensures fitness for life, but only if done correctly. If you are new to yoga practice, follow what your trainer or yoga teacher says. Don’t overexert yourself to push your body, causing more discomfort and pain. It can even increase the risk of injury. You should also limit yourself to advanced yoga asanas and postures.
Forgetting Your Alignment: People are generally competitive while doing yoga sessions, among other things. This can cause stress in muscles and sudden tension or stiffness. So, it is important never to forget about body alignment and flexibility.
The Final Verdict:
Look out for reputable and licensed Yoga Classes in NYC performed by experienced yoga teachers. If you want to do something for your soul, then yoga and meditation retreats are best to attend. The above mistakes must be kept in mind if you don’t want your health to be hampered by diet, unhealthy regime, etc.
