“Shit shit shit shit shit—“
The sound of your hurried footsteps follow the string of curses as they travel like an echo down the hall, but Levi doesn’t so much as look up from the kitchen sink.
He had tried to get you up earlier, tempting you with the promise of freshly brewed coffee and a hot breakfast, but you insisted on five more minutes. Then inevitably, five more turned into ten which turned into fifteen, and now you’re rushing to get ready and out the door on time for work.
Now he’s had to improvise–turning your breakfast into something portable you can eat on the drive. It’s a skill he’s had to perfect over the years of living with you. To say that time management wasn’t your strong suit would be an understatement. So, Levi moves on to packing your lunch, listening with a small grin at the sound of the tap of your toothbrush against the bathroom sink, followed by clothes hangers being slid back and forth in the closet as you rush to find something suitable to wear to work.
“Have you seen my black turtleneck?”
“In the dryer.”
He schools his expression into something more mild when you finally round the corner a few minutes later, knowing that you’re already stressed about being late. Smiling at you in an I told you so kind of way would only sour your mood further.
“I slept right through my alarm,” you say.
All five of them, plus his gentle prodding to get you out of bed. He doubts you were even conscious enough to remember him trying.
Your eyes flit to the coffee pot to find a travel mug already filled and waiting for you, right next to a neatly assembled wrap that you can only guess is your breakfast. Your expression visibly softens at the sweet gesture.
“Your lunch is packed too,” Levi says, motioning to the insulated lunch bag sitting on the opposite counter.
Even though you’re pressed for time, you step forward to embrace him.
“Thank you, Levi,” you say into his shirt. “You’re a lifesaver.”
His arms wrap easily around you, but there’s lighthearted reproach in his words when he says, “You say that like I don’t have to do this every other day.”
“Well, if you hadn’t kept me up so late last night, I wouldn’t be rushing.”
He shoves you away then, not forceful enough to indicate you’ve said anything to upset him, but you can tell that the mention of the night before has provoked him by the subtle shade of pink that spreads across his cheeks.
He clicks his tongue. “Pervert.”
You lean back a little, still lightly clinging to his waist with a grin. “You’re weren’t saying that last night when my lips were wrapped around your—“
Levi’s palm claps over your mouth before you can finish your sentence, but it does very little to muffle the sound of your laughter that follows.
He leans into you a little, his other hand anchored to your waist to keep you close. “You’re going to be late.”
Deciding he’s endured enough for one morning, you pull away and go to gather your breakfast. “Yeah, yeah.”
You carry it into the next room and Levi quietly follows, your lunch bag in one hand and travel mug in the other.
“I’ll stop by the store tonight,” you say as you gather your coat by the door. “I saw this really good recipe last night that I’d like to try for dinner.”
Levi simply nods. Dinners are usually your preferred meal to cook, so he’s not surprised you already have something planned. “Sure.”
When you get your coat on, he hands you your things, then finishes off with a quick kiss.
After years spent co-existing together in your apartment—sharing everything from body wash to toothpaste and clothes—you would think that having his lips on yours wouldn’t still elicit such a strong feeling, but it does. It’s a wild and frenzied sensation, forming in the pit of your stomach before it swoops like a flurry up into your ribcage.
You linger by the door, starting to regret not getting up earlier so you could see him a little longer. “Thank you for getting my things ready.”
Levi nods again. “You’re welcome.”
When he leans against the doorframe, you take the moment to press another kiss to his lips. “I love you.”
A mixture of minty toothpaste and the familiar scent of your perfume swirls in the few inches between your bodies, and Levi has to take considerable effort to not lean in again.
“You’re going to be late,” he reminds you for what feels like the nth time.
But despite that, your feet stay planted in the doorway. “Say it back and I’ll go.”
“I love you too.” He rolls his eyes, but relents just the slightest bit and kisses you again. “Now, go.”

thank you so much for reading angels! this season is such a wonderful time of year because of the ideas and ethos surrounding it; one of giving. this winter should be about our loved ones and those in need. whether you do something as simple as donating old clothes to charity or making christmas cards for the homeless, i would encourage everyone (myself included) to make it their mission to give back in at least one way. remember - angels are kind and generous inside and out! as we plan our gifts or think about shopping and the fun things to come let’s all take a moment to reflect on how we can give back.
love, m.

Of stained glass hair and flower hands
synopsis: just a small date of an architect husband and a painter wife.
prompt: 7, 25
requested by: @7urriya
pairing: Kaveh x fem!reader
tw: fluff, established relationship, reader is a painter
word count: 1k+ words in total
a/n: this was my last request for the last year's Token of appreciation writing event and I completely missed the fact I didn't publish it (I should really check my inbox more often to be reminded of stuff). I am so sorry for the wait, my lovely @/7urriya and I hope you'll still find it enjoyable even a year later.
What were the odds, huh? An architect married to a painter, an artistic duo brought together by the gods above. A mess of blueprints and canvas, ink and paint splotches, mugs of finished coffee piled up on the table and another glass of any beverage ruined by an accident brush toss is working wonderfully. A mess that exists among you freely and doesn’t ruin your couple's life and its equilibrium.
Yes, a passionate individual paired with another possessor of strong beliefs doesn’t seem like a good idea, assumed to end up in a big fight and a heartbreak. But, to the surprise of your mutual friends, everything worked out smoothly. Yes, you bicker, but are quick to remember how Alhaitham once called you an ‘old grumbling couple’ and it stuck to the point of ending all the rising arguments with laughter over imagining how grouchy and wrinkly you’ll become in 40 years and suggestion to go out and cool off.
But you also love to go out just for the sake of going out. Sometimes it’s the case of seeking inspiration, other times it’s to get out of the four walls and revel in the beauty of the world around you.
Or, like today, it’s both.
Originally it was a planned picnic date - with finding free spaces in your schedules, going to the market the evening before, cooking the following morning and all that ‘planning’ stuff. And when you grabbed your portable painting kit with all the necessary tools at the last minute just as you were leaving the house, Kaveh wasn’t surprised and only smiled warmly.
Vissudha Field is a marvelous place; it has the most breath-taking view of the Sumeru City and should you only turn your head - the other magnificent areas of the Dendro region. The perfect spot for an artistic date.
Climbing to the highest of the grass-covered hill, Kaveh puts the basket down, which you quickly follow by lowering your own make-shift ‘bag’. Soon the opposite ends of a big patchwork blanket are in his and your hands and you shake it in the air a couple of times to slowly lower it in a straight manner.
Your husband lets out a joyous laugh as you flop onto your back with arms spread wide and a grinning face exposed to the sunrays. You giggle, when he playfully boops your nose, and wrinkle it, blindly reaching up to try and locate him with your hands. But his slight dodging and your squeezed shut eyes do little to help.
“Come ooon, Kaveh, let me touch you,” you softly whine, not quitting your attempts to catch at least the fluttering ties of his today’s choice of shirt.
“I’m right here, love,” his voice sounds like he is leaning from the left and you redirect your grabby hands there, only to miss him again. “If you just opened your beautiful eyes for me.”
“But that’s no fun,” you huff, yet already bring an arm to shield your eyesight from the brightness of the sun. However, a shadow appears, casting itself upon you, and you dare to open one eye. There he is - standing above you, bent in his waist, with hands planted on his hips and hair cascading down, framing his face like the finest silk curtains. The most captivating part? Pink padparadscha eyes gazing at you with unspoken adoration.
You can’t stop the beaming smile that is spreading across your face.
“Well, well… you shouldn’t stay like that, a thousand steps away from me,” you reach your arms upwards again, tips of the fingers barely touching the apples of his cheeks. “Stay close to me, alright?”
Your husband immediately mirrors your smile and leans even closer so your palms properly cup his face. Slowly lowering his body, Kaveh eventually ends up kneeling above you, your lips inches away and noses almost touching chins. And then he angles his head and you eagerly let him press his mouth to yours.
When an hour later, having eaten and shared a lovely conversation, you fall into comfortable silence, Kaveh decides to lounge on his side with a hand supporting his head. Occasionally he steals glances at you immersed in your painting - canvas propped against your crossed feet, held firmly by the upper edge, and a brush securely yet effortlessly rested between your lovely fingers. Fingers of the no less lovely hands, already dirtied by the paint, but to the man next to you those are not imperfections, but the little unchangeable details that make you - you.
“Your hands are like flowers, blooming with all kinds of vibrant colors,” he suddenly says, breaking your focus and making you turn to him with a questioning look. A lock of hair escapes with the movement, gently falling on your face, shimmering like a temple's stained glass windows.
Oh, how he’d love to design and build a temple with an image of you in mind.
“Sun plays with your hair like it’s the colorful pieces of glass mosaic…” he goes on, completely enthralled with you, with unkempt hair and paint spots dry and cracked on your skin. You are beautiful. You are his wonder. You are his.
The tenderness with which he is looking at you makes your cheeks flare and eyes avert, now more interested in a ladybug walking across the blanket. And yet, the absolutely happy smile betrays your sheepish state.
“Saying my hair looks like glass, and my hands are flowers…” you chuckle, shaking your head and putting your tools aside, “how romantic you are. Or are they just words from the book?”
This time he is the one reaching his hands to you, sitting up to face you. Knees bumping, fingers intertwining and foreheads pressing together, the position is awkward, but at the same time oh so perfect.
“I don’t think there is a book with words grand enough to describe the very depth of my feelings for you,” he murmurs, thumb skimming over the paint-covered skin of your hand. “Only if I were to write them down.”
“Changing careers, huh?” You can’t help but tease, gazing into his eyes with mirth. He lifts an eyebrow.
“For you? I could.”
“No need. I already love my architect husband more than I could ever do the writer one.”
“How reassuring, coming from my painter wife.”
As you both erupt in a fit of almost teenage-sounding giggles, Kaveh can’t help but think that even if the odds were against him, he’d still choose you, no matter what others believed.

Epilogue
Stepping into the Professor’s house, he started clocking his surroundings.
He was aware of the office upstairs and the seperate drive semi-hidden in the corner that was only hooked up to the computer when needed.
The Professor was usually quite vigilant when it came to keeping that information safe and keeping it unconnected to an internet connection except when needed, it was a deterrent.
But Caleb wasn’t a hacker from some far off place, he was a wolf in sheep’s clothing sneaking in to do the deed himself.
The Professor came ambling around the corner from the kitchen, holding a steaming mug of coffee.
“Ah you’re here!”
“Yes.”
“I’m surprised that you set up the appointment yourself. Usually I have to drag you to check you myself.” The professor takes an unworried sip of his coffee, unaware of Caleb’s murderous thoughts.
“I’m glad though, I was honestly worried that we’d have to replace our prime weapon so soon after accomplishing greatness.”
Caleb was used to this, being referred to as an object, not even human in their eyes. An experimental weapon to be controlled and pointed at their enemies.
So he didn’t say a word.
The Professor gestured him up the floating glass stairs to the upstairs lab, coffee spilling past his chin uncaringly.
He followed his designated keeper up the stairs, all the while his mind whirring with possibilities for a natural looking assassination attempt.
The Professor was in good health, in good shape, and was generally cautious.
Planning this could take a bit of time but Caleb’s first priority was the files on his arm and the chip in his head.
He was gestured towards a chair, in the middle of the lab, a mirror of his setup at his own home.
Taking a seat after removing his jacket and shirt, plugs were connected to ports in his arm and his face grimaced the slightest bit.
Painful as always but they had done nothing to change this for him.
The professor took another big gulp of his coffee, setting it down and sitting at the monitor to check on the results.
“Good, I’m not seeing any issues from repeated use of the Evol or any degradation from time in space. Assimilation looks to be on schedule too.”
Caleb could feel the slow crawl of the machinery under his skin, transforming him slowly into their perfect weapon.
The Professor grimaced slightly and Caleb picks up a slight grumble from his stomach.
“Pardon me, I’ll be back.”
Leaving him to finish the diagnostic, he leaves the room presumably for the bathroom. Ah, the coffee. Well, this provides him a non-suspicious opportunity to head for the office.
Disconnecting himself, Caleb quickly made his way down the hall.
There was the drive in the corner, disconnected as usual. Oh well, it didn’t need to be connected to power because his own drive had a portable power supply.
Plugging it in, it loaded everything from the drive within a minute before turning red to indicate it was wiping the original drive.
Well, that’s one good thing about Sylus, he doesn’t skimp on quality products.
Sticking the small drive back into his pocket, he quickly makes his way back to the lab and connects himself once again. Pain shoots through his arm and his face shows the full extent this time.
Showing this in front of the Professor would only encourage him, taking pleasure in his pain.
It took another five minutes for the Professor to return from the bathroom.
“Ah good, we’re finished. Looks like nothing needs to be done. How is your chip?”
“Fine.”
“Mmm, we should do a diagnostic soon but not today, wed need to open you and I don’t have the time.”
Ah his favorite, where the professor opens a port in his brain and messes with the chip embedded in the limbic system of his brain.
Usually, pressing on certain areas to see how Caleb responds, with no pain medication either.
Requiring him to fall into his brainwashed state to hide the fact that his chip was at a low integrity now.
Caleb didn’t respond to this and instead stands up to put his shirt and jacket back on.
As he buttons his shirt, the Professor looks at him a bit sadistically and Caleb gets a feeling in the pit of his stomach.
“A little bird told me that she has been spotted with a belly that appears to indicate pregnancy. Any idea how that could have happened?”
He knew.
The professor was taunting him with the knowledge, showing him that struggle was pointless as she was back in their sights.
His fingers trembled a bit but that was the only thing he allowed himself before Caleb just gave the other man a blank stare.
The uncaring man just laughed meanly
“Well, it makes no difference what you say. It’ll be ours in the end.”
The hairs raised on the back of his neck, his daughter, an it? That’s all their baby was worth to them?
“I’ll be heading out.”
The professor waves a dismissive hand at him as he turns back to the monitor.
As Caleb leaves, he clocks the floating stairs as he heads out.
Maybe that’s all he needs to do.
Waving a hand, he sets his trap.
Caleb makes his way out and gets in his car to drive a few streets away. Stopping at a bakery, he picks out a small tart for her to bring home.
All the while keeping a mental eye on his trap laid.
As he pays for the tart, he feels it.
A firm bump.
With a smile, he lets go of his mental hold.
The invisible but firm concentration of gravity that he had left in place at the top of those convenient floating stairs.
Caleb had left it there to catch his unsuspecting keeper off guard and send him careening down through the stairs to his death.
A simple fall shown by the camera’s view and an unfortunate accident.
Caleb had been there but there was nothing to implicate him as he was shown driving away and at another location at the time.
His trap invisible to anyone’s scrutinizing eye.
Satisfied, he takes the tart home to his love like a hunter returning from a successful hunt with prey.
**
The news, over the next few days, reports on the sad tragedy of the poor man falling to his death in his own home. No foul play was suspected as he had been home alone and no substance was found on the stairs.
The fleet had questioned him about the incident but there was nothing to hold him with even if they wanted to.
His love sat there on the couch, watching with a mix of relief and anxiety.
“When you went over there, I thought you were only going for the files and that you were waiting to find a good opportunity to kill him.”
“I was initially but-“ he paused, it was still a bad habit of his not to tell her things. “I didn’t tell you this but, he knew. He knew you were pregnant and that it was my baby. He threatened you and our little girl.”
“Oh, so you acted that fast because you were scared of what they might do.”
“I was terrified, I don’t know if he had discussed it with anybody else and I didn’t want to take the risk. It worked out fine, thankfully.”
“This time, but next time your target is an even higher profile. Please promise me you’ll be careful, all this work for you to end up in prison or worse killed, it would devastate me.”
“I’d let myself die if it kept you safe.”
She points a stern finger towards him
“Get that crap out of your head, we need you.”
Her hand rests on her ever growing belly.
Hearing that she needed him always made him happy, he smiled.
“Yes dear.”
Narrowing her eyes at the joke, she moves on.
“What will happen to Kevi?”
“I went through the Fleet to secure an unaffiliated foster family for him, I secretly deactivated his chip, it hadn’t been that long since he was first outfitted with it so they still had a kill switch for safety concerns. Young children often have issues with it due to their developing brains.”
“I hope he’ll be okay.”
“I worked with the foster family to secure a therapist for him, it’s up to Kevi if he opens up and accepts help. But I did my best to set him up for success.”
“Thank you.” She sighed a breath of relief, “I’ve been so worried about Kevi.”
Turning to him, she smiles in thanks.
Reaching out with his hand, he cups her cheek and she leans into him, closing in her eyes in contentment.
A quiet moment before Sylus and Zayne showed up.
After much bargaining, she had convinced him to let them into his home and secret room.
Following the instructions sent by Zayne, they had set it up to be a sterile room as much as possible while their resident doctor would be taking over when he made his appearance.
Zayne and Sylus would be sharing their findings after they had spent the past few days reviewing the new information they had sent to them.
Making paper copies and sending it via courier, one of the twins under Sylus’s care she had informed him.
Sylus had already conferred with Phillip and gotten his expertise so that there was no need to further compromise their home.
It was time, a knock came from the door, the two men had surprisingly showed up at the same time.
Coming in awkwardly, they stood there with large cases of luggage like they were moving in too.
Caleb cleared his throat to break the awkward silence and asked
“Well? What’s first?”
Sylus stepped forward
“My turn then. I’ll get straight to the point, they’re using a specialized nano probe that slowly transforms your body to be more machine-like from what we’ve seen with your arm.”
She sits forward and clasps Caleb’s hand, grounding them as a team.
“What can we do?”
“First, I need a blood sample because that’s where you’ll find the nano probes. We can’t fight against them but we can work with them. The original programming was in the files you sent but I need a live sample to do anything. My plan is to get a few nano probes, change their coding so that they act like a virus. Implanting the new programming all around your body to the other nano probes so that you won’t be at risk anymore.”
Caleb looks at her with excitement, it was possible! He didn’t have to become a machine.
It was Zayne’s turn then and from his face, they could tell it wasn’t pretty.
“It seems like you’re one of the few that Ever implanted the Toring chip directly into the brain itself. It keeps a bigger hold on you since it’s directly affecting your limbic system. There is a port that they left in the back of your skull for access, which does make it easier on me since I don’t have much experience with brain surgery.”
He seems to sigh and rub the bridge of his nose.
“What I’m about to say will seem crazy but it seems to be our best course of action. From the way they did things, they never intended to remove the chip. It is directly powered by your body’s low magnetic field and the chip has anchors that latch directly into your brain tissue. Taking it out by force would at best leave you with severe brain damage and at worst, kill you.”
“Is there anything we can do?” She asks this as she seems to place her body unconsciously in front of his, as if she could protect him from his own brain.
“I was getting to that, my theory is that if we can stop Caleb’s heart and make the chip think he’s medically dead, that the anchors will let his brain go and we can retrieve it then. The risk is that we may not be able to get him back, there’s no guarantee that we can start his heart up again.”
They look at each other, another dive into death and danger. Caleb was willing to take the risk, taking it out by force would mean that he might not even be Caleb anymore or that he’d die anyway.
She would hate this but it was their best course for success.
“Let’s do it then.”
Before going to the back room to set up, Zayne draws a vial of blood for Sylus.
Who then retrieves a computer with a specialized receiver for the blood they had just drawn. The centrifuge whirrs as it separates the blood from the nano probes.
Bringing up the new program on the monitor, he begins to overwrite the nano probes. Sylus makes idle conversation as they wait anxiously.
“That arm of yours is quite interesting, the possibilities, I’d be interested in taking a look at it if you’re amenable. I recall seeing that you can’t feel sensations besides pain, I think that we could work on that too if this all works out.”
She looks excited at the prospect of them being friends, Caleb can see it in the way she pulls herself to attention. Well, it wouldn’t be the worst thing to keep him close, Sylus has many useful contacts.
Zayne comes out, presumably having finished setting up.
Sylus asks
“Do you have a suspension fluid that we could inject into him safely?”
He does.
They prepare the reprogrammed nano probes, using the centrifuge to combine them into the fluid. Zayne is the one who injects it back into Caleb, into his other arm this time.
It’s a risk but he’ll have to trust his love’s judgment when it comes to these people, they’re his best chances for coming out of this safe and human.”
**
The three of them are in the backroom now, Sylus waited outside. Everyone of them had used the washing station and then suited up to be sterile.
She was just there for moral support as Caleb would be awake for part of this.
They’d be putting him to sleep when they shocked his heart into stopping.
Caleb lays face forward in a chair that looks like it’s meant for massages but has a scary looking rack to keep his head still attached.
“I’m trusting you to do this Dr. Zayne.”
“If you can’t trust me, trust me as a doctor who’s taken an oath.”
Grunting in acknowledgment as she sits next to him. Zayne secures his head in the rack before opening the port to his head to confirm the position of the chip.
He was given some pain medication before but there was still the odd sensation like a door being peeled open in his head.
The doctors voice coming through the mask muffled
“Confirming the chip’s location, it’s still where it was reported to be when inserted. Confirming visual on the anchors. I’ll now start the procedure if you two are ready.”
Caleb had already been hooked up to a heart monitor and a machine to shock his heart. To stop his heart and to bring him back.
They squeeze each other's hands, ready to do this to have a normal life together.
“Ready.”
“I’ll push this sedative then.”
Caleb feels his eyes go heavy.
**
You watch as Caleb is sedated and his eyes close, a minute passes before Zayne starts the machine to stop his heart.
“Beginning process.”
You can see Caleb’s muscles tighten and spasm before going loose, the heart monitor letting out a flat tone.
“Heart stopped, we have 5 minutes to succeed, confirming removal of anchors.”
You wait an agonizing 30 seconds, looking at Caleb’s slack face knowing that he’s technically dead right now. It sends your stomach rolling, it’s ok, Zayne will take care of him.
“Anchors removing themselves! I’m now reaching in with forceps for removal.”
He drops the small chip with long metallic strands hanging off into a dish on the side table.
“Closing port, beginning procedure to restart his heart.”
You help Zayne lay him back onto the table, the risk of infection low now that his brain was closed back up.
“Starting at 50, clear!”
Caleb’s body jerks a bit, but no heartbeat. Zayne starts CPR, keeping a steady rhythm.
No heartbeat except for the jumps being made from the CPR.
“Charging to 100, clear!”
Zayne steps back as you watch a bit helplessly. Watching Caleb’s slack face and the flat tone of the monitor.
Jerking again, but there’s nothing.
All you can hear as you collapse into the chair is Zayne’s voice calm but firm. The room spins, was this really a good idea?
The word “Clear!” would haunt your dreams.

Not that they would need to (except Angeal), but how do Angeal, Sephiroth, Genesis, and Zack handle Black Friday shopping?
Angeal: Treats it like a competitive sport. Arrives with a precise list, coupons, and a store map marked with tactical positions. He starts off polite and methodical until he spots the home goods section. The moment someone reaches for the last set of premium cotton towels, his honor code evaporates. "Those are 800 thread count, and they're MINE." He's seen bodyslaming people into shelf displays over discount coffee mugs.
Zack: Returns to HQ at 4 AM clutching a shiny new Play Station, covered in blood and sporting a black eye but grinning maniacally.
Lazard: Who's blood is that?? Zack: I GOT THE NEW PLAYSTATION! Lazard: WHO'S BLOOD IS THAT?? Zack: 70% OFF!!
Genesis: Sneers at Black Friday as "peasant behavior" until his favorite rare bookstore announces their sale. He's caught camping outside 48 hours early in a luxury tent, complete with a wine cooler and portable reading lamp. He yells at people. He insults people. He bites people. And then he leaves with three copies of books he already owns "because the binding is slightly different."
Sephiroth: Strolls in at peak hours, and the crowd parts like the sea. He casually picks up whatever he wants while people stare in awe. Later, he keeps showing Angeal his receipts and bragging about the steals. Angeal considers violence.
Sephiroth: 80% off this coffee maker. Angeal: *eye twitching* Sephiroth: They also gave me an additional discount. And this free gift card. Angeal, who fought three people for his coffee maker: That's... that's not how Black Friday works. Sephiroth: They gave me an air-fryer for free. Angeal: FUCK YOU

"And l'll be on the way in the middle of the night. There's something in the way you be running my mind. If you want me to stay for the rest of my life. You got me, you got me."
Just a little Jayb drabble inspired by middle of the night by Monsta X bc these lyrics won't get out of my brain today.
You blink and take a minute to open your eyes, the sunlight is faint this morning through the curtains of your bedroom window and you smile as the arm draped around your waist tightens a little at your slight movement. The breath on the back of your neck is still steady and you know he’s still asleep as you roll over to face your husband, pausing for a moment just to study his sleeping face. You barely get to see it so peaceful these days. He's been working so hard lately and all his important deadlines have been rushing up to meet you both. You reach up to smooth your thumb over his cheek, smiling to yourself as you press a kiss to the tip of his nose and finally drag yourself out of bed.
It's hard. He's warm and the weight of his arm around you feels right. You'd love nothing more than to stay, let yourself indulge a little, and go back to sleep cuddled up against his chest but you know if you linger you'll never leave. He slid into bed late last night so instead of waking him to shower together you let him sleep. He could use the extra thirty minutes. He's stirring when you step back out of your shared ensuite, and you stop for a minute to watch. It’s cute the way he tugs the blanket closer and nuzzles into your pillow, already more on your side of the bed than his own. You smile to yourself as you dress and silently slip out to the kitchen.
It's harder to be quiet here. The coffee machine makes more noise than you'd like but there's nothing you can do about that so you just hope he'll sleep through it a little longer. You’re humming to yourself as you make breakfast for two, checking your watch to make sure you're not losing track of time as you cook. You hear hum shuffling around as the omelettes start to sizzle in the pan and shake your head. He always knows when you've gotten up first and you never manage to actually finish your plans. That's okay, you think, sipping at your first cup of coffee as the shower turns on. You’re not in a rush.
Your phone sits docked at the small portable speaker, his playlist going as you cook. It was his idea, something about how you're alwaya dancing around the kitchen singing to yourself anyway and he wanted to keep seeing it. You shake your head at the thought and it’s just as you're plating everything up that you feel his hands on your hips.
You don’t even try to hold back your smile as warm lips press softly against your neck, just once, and gentle hands fix the hem of your blouse. You lean into his solid chest as his hands smooth down your sides and come to rest around your waist, his cheek finding a home against your temple. He presses a kiss there too and you turn off the stove, one hand coming to rest over his forearm.
You stroke your thumb over his skin, squeezing once at the tanned expanse of arm revealed by the rolled up sleeves of his button down and tilt your head back to meet his brown eyes.
They soften as his expression melts into a small smile and you can’t help leaning up to kiss him, turning in his arms and grabbing his mug off the counter as you step back a bit.
"Good morning."
You can already see the amusement glinting in his eyes. "Good morning handsome."
He smiles as he takes the cup from you, one hand resting on your hip as he leans back against the counter and takes a sip. "What's all this?"
"Well, I was going to make my lovely husband breakfast in bed this morning since he's been so run off his feet lately but someone had other ideas."
He's grinning at you over the brim of his mug, hand squeezing your waist and sliding up to rest against your lower back instead. "Sorry honey."
He's not. You both know he isn’t. You shake your head and his hand presses against your back, inching you closer. "You have absolutely no regrets about ruining my plans this morning."
He sets the coffee on the counter, other hand coming up to brush your hair back out of your face. His eyes don't leave your lips as he tucks the hair behind your ear and smooths his thumb over your jaw. "Nope."
You bite back your smile but he catches it anyway. He always does.
"Lim Jaebeom."
You don’t get a chance to scold him further because he leans in and steals your breath with a kiss then. You know he’s distracting you but it’s working, so you let him. When he finally pulls back, one hand cupping your cheek, you sigh softly but the smile on his face is radiant.
"You're so lucky I love you Jae."
"I'll fix your makeup."
"I don't care about my makeup."
You tug him the slightest bit closer by the belt looped through his black slacks and he chuckles, breath ghosting over your lips. "Breakfast is going to get cold."
"We'll live."
You let him kiss you again, this time forgetting why you were annoyed to begin with, and when he pulls back to look at you the love in his expression melts away any anger. You mirror him this time, hand coming up to cup his face. He leans into your touch and lets his hands fall away as you take a step back.
"Breakfast first. If you're late today Jinyoung is never letting me hear the end of it and I promised your brothers I wouldn't kill him."
Jaebeom's laughter echoes, warmth spilling through your chest with the sound, as he pecks your forehead softly and moves to take the plates to your small kitchen table. "Well, we can’t have you breaking your promises honey."
"We could. I would just like to go at least one week this time. Please."
He's still smiling as you take your seats and start to eat. "So, what project are you working on today my love?"
