Something tells me that the current Poptropica creators knew Rumpelestiltskin was the only good part of FTI, which is why they tried to milk his popularity.

There's nothing wrong with a character being used for marketing. As long as they have an actual character, and a good story to back it up.

I don't mind characters like Oliver being used for marketing (although I wish Mya and Jorge got the same amount, lol) because he has an actual character, and an actual good story to back it up.

Rumpel's character is entertaining, and he is an intimidating villain, he's got a good design. They just didn't do much with him in the actual island, most likely because the island itself was barely an island. Other villains at least have a more impactful story.

And then the weird extended FTI plot on Home Island didn't help... mostly because it didn't go anywhere, so it felt like a waste of time. They could've used the time and energy they put into that to make actual islands...

What I'm trying to say is that Rumpelstiltskin is a good enough character, but he doesn't have a good story to justify his oversaturation.

I find it kind of interesting that since it's been a couple of years since this all went down, we're able to look at it in a different light. I guess the whole year-long hiatus, Shutdown Hoax, Poptropica moving to Coolmath Games and refusing to update made us more critical of modern Poptropica 🤔

2 - 17, New Year, New Murder!

It took me like 20 minutes to solve yesterday's murdle for absolutely no reason (or! it was 1 am and i was dumb)

Omg is that poptropica dr crimson???? (warning, if you bring up poptropica to me i will rant for hours and hours)

VIOLET: It’s the new year!  LOGICO: It’s the first of June. Not the NEW YEAR-

It’s too late! He is dragged to the library, where a rave has been set up (hope you weren’t planning on reading)! A seizure warning shows up onscreen before transitioning to the next shot. And an earrape warning!! Logico’s senses are blinded.

VIOLET: I tried to make it, you know, fun!

Logico can’t see anything, but he can weakly make out some voices singing along.

ABALONE: 🎶A-LIST ABALONEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYY! PINE: GIRL, STOP SCREAMING FOR THE LOVE OF- Hold up! Did you invite Logico to girls’ night?? VIOLET: YEAH!  PINE: UGHHH VIOLET: You listen to me! I’ve stayed up 729 nights straight to plan these parties, and they are gonna go how I WANT THEM TO! ABALONE: Gurl, you’re my IDOL!!!

They dance more. Not Logico though! Logico doesn’t dance. Instead, he’s skimming the books on the wall like a loser. He finds one with a super dumb title. “The Accountant’s Guide to Having Fun”? Sounds like something Blackstone wrote at gunpoint. Logico HAS to see what this is about, but when he tries to take out the book, naturally, a secret passage emerges! And the lights go out with a cartoony record scratch.

ABALONE: OH MY GOD!!! WHAT THE FUCK I CAN’T SEE!! VIOLET: LOGICO!! WHY DID YOU HAVE TO RUIN IT?! PINE: I TOLD YOU HE SHOULDN’T HAVE BEEN INVITED!

There’s a lot of struggling in the darkness until Violet manages to turn the regular light on. The DJ is dead!! (Was the record scratch their heart stopping?)

Logico immediately suspects Violet. Did she murder the DJ to prove that he needed to be invited? 

PINE: Well, what are we supposed to do now?? LOGICO: It’s a library. You could read a book. ANY book. PINE: You serious? Y’all need to get your brains checked.

Logico approaches Violet, who seems very distressed - is that good or bad? She is drowning her sorrows in champagne.

VIOLET: I can’t believe… I can’t believe I didn’t get to have a single good party! [sobs]

Logico, questioning his decisions, sits down next to her.

VIOLET: I just… wanted to impress you. LOGICO: Me? Why? VIOLET: Well… you’re- you’re THE Deductive Logico! And I know our first meeting went really bad, but I- I admire you so much, and…

Logico lays his hand on her shoulder. Violet smiles weakly.

ABALONE: HEY GUYS! LOOK AT HOW TALL MY SHOES ARE WHOOOOAAAAA!!!

She faceplants so hard, her head goes through the floor! Violet rushes over to help.

Logico finally gets a text from Irratino!

“Hi Logico, I wish I was there for New Year’s too. Even if it’s not really New Year’s I just really wanted to”

That’s the whole message. Logico texts back “???” and the goat responds.

“Never mind. Just remember: champagne and maps always go together.”

Logico quivers, then makes his decision. Judge Pine, who was bitter that Logico was invited!

PINE: This is not justice! Only I decide what is justice! LOGICO: You use that same protest every time! Give me a break! ABALONE: [bawling] WHAT THE HELL?? I HAD THE BIGGEST CRUSH ON THAT DJ!!  VIOLET: UGH, JUST GO!!

She literally shoves her out of there. Logico wonders why she didn’t do that to all the murder guests.

Woah boy Anon you have no idea what you've just done

Basically the first change is that Zeus is actually a good caring God who wants to protect and help people, and that ended up having consequences for pretty much all other characters.

Zeus takes the form of a teacher at Harvey's University after he's had his accident, getting him the support he needs and harshly punishing those who bully him. Harvey with his help doesn't become bitter and vengeful, instead insisting that he's going to prove everyone wrong by doing good for the world through science and robotics.

Zeus turns into first mate onboard an honest merchant ship and convinces the captain to let Crawfish (who's just a kid at the time) becomes a junior officer. He very quickly proves his skill with ships, rises through the ranks, and eventually when the old captain retires Crawfish is given command of the ship instead. When his home port begins to struggle financially, he uses the ship to bring them supplies

Zeus makes himself curator of an art museum, and makes sure to catch Widow on her very first heist. Instead of turning her in, he encourages her to keep improving her art instead of stealing it from others, and also suggests that if she's good enough to sneak past all that security she could have a future as a crimefighter. She takes him up on it, and with his guidance becomes a secret agent using her public persona as a famous artist as cover.

But Mordred is the one things change the most drastically for.

Mordred's childhood going by King Arthur myths was really not good: His father is King Arthur (making Mordred kind of a prince actually!), and there's a prophecy that Mordred will grow up to overthrow him and destroy the kingdom. Arthur wants to stop that from happening but doesn't know which child is Mordred, only that he'll be born on May 1. So he finds all children born on that day and sends them out onto the sea to drown, where Mordred is the only survivor.

In my normal idea of the world, I'd imagine this is when he washes up on the shores of Astroknights where he later finds out the truth and tries to become king as it's "his right".

In the Hero AU Zeus instead decides to intervene because this whole situation is messed up. He takes baby Mordred to Astroknights himself and gives him to the King and Queen. They're horrified that another king would do something like that to his own child, and adopt Mordred as their own. He grows up as a prince, and becomes a brave and honourable knight.

He sees Elyana as his little sister and they're very close. But as they grow up, people start to pay less and less attention to Elyana in favour of Mordred since he's the oldest child and the one who will become ruler. He also begins to spend less and less time with her as he's busy learning how to be king. She's alone and upset, feeling like everyone has abandoned her.

She begins to resent Mordred for having "abandoned her just like everyone else", and angry that he "stole the throne" from her. Eventually after they get into a huge fight she escapes into space.

Everyone assumes Elyana died in space, and Mordred is absolutely heartbroken feeling like all of it is his fault. The cult pops up believing she actually survived, and Mordred joins them because he's desperate to find Elyana and being her back home safely. Instead when he manages to contact her she attacks the kingdom and takes him away because "if you're gone I can be queen".

The player rescues Mordred, and Astroknights mostly plays out the same. Except despite everything he still cares for her, and when the portal is about to close leaving her stranded in space he tries to turn back for her at the last second.

He has an arm and half his face in the portal when it closes on him. He turns himself into a cyborg to survive.

Following all of that, he doesn't want anything more to do with the kingdom. He's extremely upset and just wants to run away from all of it. He gets into a tiny boat and lets it carry him off into the sea not even knowing if he'll survive or not. He drifts close enough to the "modern islands" to be rescued.

Black widow is an agent, so she becomes involved in figuring out what the heck happened to this medieval robot man they found adrift at sea.

Harvey is one of the best scientists, so she gets him involved too because he's pretty much the only one who can figure out how to repair Mordred's robotics while he's in the hospital.

Crawfish had a similar situation to Mordred of sailing too far from home and being picked up by modern people, so he gets called in because he's pretty much the only one who can fully empathise with being lost in this strange new world.

Mordred's bad situation brings the four of them together, and they decide to stick together as heroes defending Poptropica.

Sandbox Group hasn't done one good thing for Poptropica >:/ everything they've done made it cringy and worse! And now the game is dead cause of them

I had to struggle to think of one good thing they've done for Poptropica, and that's allowing it to be played on Coolmath Games and getting rid of membership.

But they only did that after the Shutdown Hoax...

I'll give you a list of every bad thing they've done to Poptropica since they came around:

Push Pop Original aside to create and focus on Pop Worlds, which most people hated as it wasn't as good as the Original.

Unceremoniously fire a good chunk of the original Poptropica creators.

Throw away the original creators hard work, such as a larger franchise with more content.

Make the design of the game more bland and uninspired.

Promise to bring the older islands back after Flash died 4 years ago, yet in all that time they only brought back less than half of them.

The As3 islands in their full forms can't be played unless you buy it for $20 on Steam.

Dumbing down older islands.

Create those Roblox games, which no one liked... or wanted. Or asked for.

Completely give up on the game that they ruined, and won't even do the simple thing as bringing the old islands and mini-games back.
