I don’t really like this game anymore even though I still like the first two acts very much. In my head I have a better version of the game’s events lol. Steven Universe is interesting to me because it’s got the most extreme dichotomy between ideas that would be better fleshed out in a show for adults, and ideas that are interesting specifically because they’re native to an unironic children’s show.

I remember the grandayy meme video making fun of people who got mad at This is America memes. It really set the tone, like most of YouTube meme culture in late 2010s that we’re not allowed to voice our discomfort or we’d be seen as ‘cringe whiny sjw babies.’ You had to be okay with memes with anti black racism as the ‘dark humour’ or else you’re shit out of luck. I thought this may die out slowly since covid, but tiktok comedy culture has also exacerbated this. Hood irony stuff from 2022~ for example was uncomfortable as well but nobody wants to hear it.

I think I don’t understand why the ending was controversial to people? iMark and Helly are presumably going to die no matter what even without Gemma being saved so why wouldn’t iMark want to stay with Helly for just a few more hours? I was upset for Gemma because ofc she just got Mark back and has to panic and wait and figure out what to do but eventually Mark will come out, iMark wasn’t being selfish at all.

Am I missing something? Was the ending implying that they were gonna trap Helly and iMark inside the building forever??

I truly do believe that we can have the Batman rogues gallery be colourful and camp and also genuine mental illness representation. I would hope it would be in a way that wouldn’t be glaringly offensive, but I think it can be done!.

The Arkham patients in their mania are the only ones who can see the monochrome Gotham in bright technicolour, like they’re the ones who are truly living in the poverty ridden hellscape, becoming their own mascots for their own personal empires built on the rubble. But at a cost of treating human lives like nothing, or like unimportant expendable side characters in their lives. Killing becomes easy, even, or especially en masse. This withdrawnness from their own compassion is born out of fear, and Batman knows this. Batman, somewhat unwell himself, can lose himself in the thrill of the fight too, and see in colour when he’s dodging bullets, maybe he even sees why it’s fun. The thrill of the chase, the endless loud noise pain and blood, the way their villain outfits shine in the dark, and even the threat of death that dangles over their own head. For most, death is more favourable than going back to Arkham at all. But Batman knows he must get through to them - and show them all, that they don’t have to choose between power and money, or death! That they can survive in a world of consequences without only knowing torture - and get to keep the colours too one day. And Bruce Wayne has to do the right thing to prove this; use his influence and break down these classist systems to get even an inch closer to the city, the world, he promises the vulnerable. Gotham is a miserable place where people die fast and the sick die even faster, but Bruce knows it doesn’t have to be this way. And it starts when he takes action the way his parents couldn’t.

Clinical Trial Game Spoilers:

At risk of sounding distasteful I’m really glad Lee never tries to kill Angel like that’s not a thought that crosses his mind and he only kills himself. It’s a small thing but it keeps him a little further away from slasher/ yandere bf types which I really appreciate - especially as he’s autism coded.

Mad people reading if you for whatever reason needed to hear this today;

self harm retaliation is always a bad idea no matter how romantic a concept. You will learn to get better at managing when people are angry or misunderstood you or when you feel hated. Obviously it is case by case, but avoid the thinking that you need to hurt yourself in front of them for them to stop being angry or understand and pity you. Pity is gentler than anger, it is, but don’t fall into the trap of thinking that self harm is the correct option. It just isn’t safe at all, and I promise it won’t help as much as you think it might in the moment. If you feel this way, you need to get out of wherever you are asap, however you need to, and take a nap in a safe area. Maybe at home, maybe somewhere else. Ideally be somewhere that, when you wake up from said nap however long it takes, you can get yourself water and a hot drink.

If you’re in a situation where you can’t leave the same place they are, say the most agreeable stuff you can and keep saying however long it takes that you’re sorry and they’re right and youd like to lie down cause you’re still feeling a bit sick from uh this morning and stuff like that. When you’re able to go into your own space, nap. Ideally when you’re next away from that person/s in another place but if you have to just over the phone, tell someone you trust about what happened to get it off your chest. If you’re afraid to vent to said person, try a helpline or an online friend, anyone youd be okay venting to. I’m saying.

Whatever you have to do to avoid freaking out and self harming just to prove them wrong about you. You don’t have to prove you’re not selfish or not bad or not up yourself, or show that you’re on the ‘same side’ as them, you don’t have to do any of that and you really shouldn’t. Nap, and then find a way to manage your response to the problem with a clearer, rested, recently ate and drank something mind.
