Avery is introduced as a very complacent, very boring man. He’s an accountant, he lives alone, he talks very little and he doesn’t have any dreams or ambitions. He seems numb to life. Except that he is secretly a very bitter person. He hates himself for his mediocrity at the same time that he’s scared of his own hatred, he’s caught between wanting to escape his life and wanting to conform to what society deems successful. Simultaneously, he hates people who ARE able to escape, who are irreverent, both because he is envious of them and is afraid of suffering the same prejudice as them. This duality reaches its peak when he’s tempted by a fortune teller and turns into the creature Pride. Pride is loud, bossy, extravagant and always smiling, he’s unapologetic, which seems to be the complete opposite of Avery. But what Avery has to figure out is that he’s not Pride nor the complacent Avery he was at the beginning, he’s a mixture of both. Also he’s bisexual in the first half of the 20th century so there’s definitely an element of that.

Avery is short (about 5’4, 5’5), paled skin, with freckles over his nose and cheeks. His mom is chinese and he has her eyes. He has permanent bags under his eyes. His hair is brown and long to his shoulders. He has bangs over his right eye. He’s always wearing a dark brown suit. As Pride, Avery wear high heels. His freckles become stars, his eyes turn yellow, his bags are gone. His hair is long to his waist and slicked back. He wears a big fur coat.

The polls closed on Thursday at 10:00 PM BST. Shortly thereafter exit polls were released saying that Labour would end up with 410 seats out of 650. At 4:58 AM on Friday the BBC results showed Labour passing 326 seats – what's needed for a majority. By early afternoon on Friday, Rishi Sunak had effectively handed in his resignation to King Charles III, Keir Starmer was asked by the King to form a government, and Sir Keir was outside 10 Downing Street giving his first speech as prime minister. 15 hours after the last votes were cast, the new PM was at his desk assembling a cabinet.

To his credit, Rishi Sunak did not have a sore loser temper tantrum, did not attempt a coup, and did not call election officials to try to get them to alter returns. In fact, he gave a gracious goodbye speech in which he apologized for his mistakes and wished his successor well.

This whole sequence of events seemed, by recent standards, VERY un-American — but in a good way. This is the way democracy is supposed to work.

Labour won its second largest parliamentary victory since its founding and the Conservatives suffered their worst defeat ever. Also, the Lib Dems had their best results since the old Liberal Party merged with the Social Democratic Party in 1988 to form the current party.

I'll post more about this over the weekend, but here are results with 649 out of 650 constituencies reporting. The constituency of Inverness, Skye and West Ross-shire in Scotland is conducting a recount on Saturday morning.

Character 42, aka Mick Rory from CW's The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow!

Genuinely one of the most traumatized men of all time. Watched his parents die in a house fire that he accidentally started, then bounced around relatives and juvie until he met his lifelong criminal partner. In round 1, poll #14, he dominated with more votes than anyone else: 35 votes out of 46, or 76.1%!

In round W2, poll #8, he again received more votes than anyone else to that point: 129 out of 170, or 75.9%!

In round W3, poll #4, he placed 4th in the round, receiving 123 votes out of 203, or 60.6%.

In round W4, poll #2, he surprisingly only received 19 votes out of 49, or 38.8%.

And in round L8, poll #2, he received only 20 votes out of 57, or 35.1%.

In total, he received 326 votes out of 525, or 62.1%.

And we are all done with tier 8!

Group Stage Stats and Standings

With two out of three rounds of the group stage complete, here's a summary of where things currently stand. Remember, there are two ways to qualify for the championship bracket - winning a group (10 characters), and having the most total votes without winning a group (6 characters). By receiving enough votes, any character in the tournament could still technically qualify for one of the six wildcard slots.

First, these tables show standings by group. Purple indicates the group leader (by number of wins; ties broken by number of votes) and red indicates a character who has been locked out of winning their group. Note that since Rain Flaherty and Lucas in Group A have been in three matches rather than two, their vote totals are multiplied by 2/3 to allow a fair comparison.

Next are standings by total number of votes. Group leaders are in purple, and the leaders for the six wildcard championship slots are in blue.

The last batch of group stage polls will go up later this week. Until then, if you're interested in more stats, I've put them beneath the cut because there are Many.

The main reason I decided to have this tournament start with a group stage is that I think it's fairer to the characters (more on that later), but I'd be lying if I denied that More Stats was also a contributing factor. To begin with, here are the total number of votes by group (Group A adjusted as noted earlier):

All four characters are currently set to advance to the championship bracket - Gaueko and Davepeta as group winners, and Penny and Carla via wildcard slots.

Something interesting I noticed the other day is that the nine top-ranked characters by vote count all got there in part by facing each other:

In Group H, Dainix (#1) faced Zhusen (#2) in the first round and White Chain (#5) in the second round

In Group B, Lucy Marlowe (#4) faced Eddie Kaspbrak (#5) in the first round

In Group J, Carla Rutten (#6) faced Davepeta (#9) in the first round

In Group F, Penny Spender (#7) faced Gaueko (#8) in the second round

These are the same five matchups that had both the most votes and the most notes. All five of them were reblogged by at least one of their characters' creators. And all but one of the nine characters received more votes - often several times more - facing their highest-ranked opponent than facing their lowest-ranked opponent:

This seems to indicate popular characters actually benefit from facing each other, especially taking into account that the championship bracket will be seeded by total number of votes. Of the six characters currently holding a wildcard qualification slot, five of them are ranked in the top seven qualifiers overall.

On the flip side, these are the characters with the most nominations who don't currently qualify for the championship:

Of the fourteen characters who received five or more nominations, ten are currently slated to advance. The remaining six current qualifiers received either three or four nominations each.

And these are the characters who have the fewest votes while winning both of their matches:

Group A and Group I are the only groups with two undefeated characters who will face off in the final round, and the only groups in which number of votes had to be used as a tiebreaker to determine the current group leader.

Vaarsuvius has the lowest number of votes of any character currently winning their group. While there's only a difference of 85 votes between Elle Argent and Vaarsuvius, there are quite a few characters between them - Elle is ranked 15th, while V is ranked 27th. V is the only character currently slated to advance over other characters with more votes.

One of the dangers of a round-robin format is a match in the final round between two characters with a 0-2 record, both of whom have already been locked out of winning their group. That will only happen once here, between Teige Carroll and Eri McCure in Group I.

Finally, here's a piece of etymology I learned while preparing for the tournament: The "robin" in "round robin" has nothing to do with the bird or with the English given name. Instead, the term originated from the French phrase "ruban rond," meaning "round ribbon," but over time "ruban/ribbon" was idiomized to "robin."

I make art a lot and hope to work on animations soon!

I’m the creator of Wishtale that I currently only have an old ref sheet of Wish! sans (which I haven’t Wishtale worked on in a long while), and Monarch! Sans in the utmv community! And I also have my persona that ironically is also named Wish until I figure out a better name lol!

I’m a part of a lot of different fandoms, but the one I post the most about is utmv, although I do occasionally talk about fnaf, Jujitsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, and vocaloids!

Predictions for seats in Parliament in the UK election

Although it's almost universally assumed that the Conservative Party will lose bigtime in the general election, the forecasts for number of seats in the House of Commons are more varied than one would expect. Survation predicts 470 seats for Labour while Britain Elects (at The New Statesman) predicts a mere 418 seats for them.

So I created this chart to compare predictions from five sources. In the right column are the number of seats for each party at end of the previous Parliament in May. If the image below is too small, try this direct link.

326 seats out of the total 650 are needed for a majority. The numbers in the Nowcast prediction add up to just 649 because they aren't counting the Speaker who does not vote.

Polls close at 10:00 PM BST which is 2100 GMT. To determine when that is in your local time, click here.

According to this election night timeline at The Guardian, results from the 650 constituencies will start flooding in around 3:00 AM BST. Though some interesting results may be announced as early as a couple of hours before then.

Some constituencies which I'll be paying particular attention to tonight...

Richmond and Northallerton – Rishi Sunak's seat. The odds are (slightly) that he will keep his seat though it's far from certain. One of his challengers is a candidate who goes by the name Count Binface.

Godalming and Ash – Jeremy Hunt, the Conservative Chancellor of the Exchequer, who is said to be in serious danger of losing his seat.

Chingford and Woodford Green - Iain Duncan Smith, leader of the Conservative Party for a few years in the 2000s.

North East Somerset and Hanham – Jacob Rees-Mogg, a particularly annoying Tory grandee who would be lucky to get voted back to the House.

South West Norfolk – Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak's immediate predecessor whose time in Number 10 was famously outlasted by a head of lettuce.

Clacton – Nigel Farage, head of the far right Reform Party and infamous Brexit fanatic. Because Farage seems to be leading there, Clacton may be the only constituency where it's possible to justify voting Tory — just to block him.

Holborn and St Pancras – Sir Keir Starmer, the next Labour prime minister. Should be an easy win for him there.

Kingston and Surbiton – Sir Ed Davey, head of the Liberal Democrats. If the Lib Dems have a particularly good evening then it's within the realm of possibility that they could replace the Conservatives as the official opposition.

So why should you take an interest in this election? If you're reading posts in this blog then you are likely a political nerd. Also, UK elections are interesting and fun. Monty Python devoted several sketches to UK election scenarios.

But frankly, unless Putin is overthrown in a coup or a major hurricane strikes Mar-a-Lago, this will be the best political news of the month. So savor every minute of coverage of it.

There should be live coverage at the BBC here. ITV News and other reputable UK news providers may also offer live coverage. One source to avoid is GB News which is roughly the Fox News of the UK. *shudders*

i assume without null options people in polls would vote randomly more which skews results, not that tumblr polls mean shit. but the visualization of the percentages are pretty much the same you just have to squint a little more if you have a celibacysweep situation. ex (heavy rounding)
