Sometimes I like imagining what memes in the Pokémon universe would be like.

You know the movie from PokéStar Studios, "Magical Doors of a Mystery Land?" The one that has a living plush toy called Kevin and the evil witch queen Bellelba.

Hear me out.

Imagine, some people on Rotomblr started unironically shipping Kevin the plush toy with Bellelba. There is already an alternate ending where the Player ends up in a relationship with her. It's not too far fetched to think that some people would go "But what if it was Kevin instead"

Thus spawning the Pokémon universe equivalent of Connecticut Clark and Malfina

Also remember that Bellelba is played by Sabrina, the Gym Leader. She opens up PokéTwitter to find out that Kantonian Kevin and Bellelba is trending and all the other Kanto Gym Leaders are roasting the shit out of her because of it and the entire Indigo League gleefully adopts it as an injoke between them.

So Sabrina contacts Brycen like "WTF this is not what I expected when I got into acting!" and Brycen is sympathetic because he's already been turned into the Pokémon equivalent of the Chuck Norris meme because of the Brycen Man movies.

re: acting and Pokéstar Studios

Rosa’s acting career started inadvertently and very early on during her journey as a gym challenger when she was scouted by one of Mr. Stu Deeoh’s aides after her battle with Roxie. The scout was impressed with the passion and energy that Rosa projected during her battles and thought she’d be a good auditioning candidate for Riolu Girl in the studio’s upcoming film, Brycen-Man. Despite having taken part in some enjoyable drama skits in Trainer School, acting wasn’t something that Rosa had ever actually considered doing so she was a bit resistant at first, but she was eventually convinced to give it a try.

As it turned out, two years of successfully pretending to be someone she wasn’t (or pretending not to be someone she was?) prepared her well for playing a character in a movie. Immersing herself in a role and developing a new persona came easily to her and, since she never does anything in halves, she gave the audition her best shot. Even knowing how much effort she had channeled into her performance, she was still dismayed to find out that the audition had impressed both director Sergeo Pokémonski and Brycen, and thus landed her the role. While she agreed to stay in Virbank long enough to film her scenes, she took off for Castelia as soon as she could and didn’t stick around to see the finished product. The movie did well in the box office, but it didn’t suddenly inspire her to become an actress; at the time, she was more focused on her pokémon journey and learning more about the rising ‘Neo Plasma’ threat, so her brief acting stint was quickly forgotten.

It wasn’t until the tail end of her journey that Rosa was summoned back to Pokéstar Studios at Brycen’s request so she could reprise her role as the heroine in Brycen-Man Strikes Back, this time as Lucario Girl. This happened around the time when she first hit rock-bottom with her mental health, which led to her fully throwing herself into that and many other roles that the studio offered her. Acting quickly became a coping mechanism for her depression, where it was more about her pretending to be someone else—ANYONE but Rosa Vail—just so she could run away from all her problems.

Immersing herself in fantastical worlds where she could completely push aside reality helped her for a while, but it wasn’t until her mother confronted her over her depression that Rosa fully realized what she was doing and that she had to stop. She took an extended break from acting while she journeyed in Kalos and only returned to it after she became the champion of Unova. After a few rough patches during her first year, she found herself in a healthier state of mind and then returned to acting, this time because she actually enjoyed it, at which point her career fully flourished.

While Rosa does well in the action genre, her best work has always been in the fantasy genre and under the direction of Sydney Pokémet. Her first big solo hit and also her favorite film series to work on was Mystery Doors of the Magical Land, which is widely considered her best work. Her least favorite film series was Love and Battles because she felt like a pathetic, simpering fool the entire time during filming. Ironically, that series was also one of her greatest box-office hits and widely acclaimed by film audiences, particularly for Rosa’s emotionally evocative performance in the third installment of the series.

Unova Battle Subway maps

My personal preferred map of the railways (one with blue markers, one with color coded markers)

An alternate map, taking the in-game subway map slightly more literally. (Bonus map with a few non-canon markers I added purely to help myself make sense of the seemingly pointless shapes of some of the routes)

Bonus extra map of the routes taken by Ingo, Emmet, or both of them, for those who want a more specific visual of those routes on their own. (Of course Emmet's line goes through the Pokémon World Tournament lmao)

Misc notes/thoughts under the cut

I'm not a train person, take all these musings with a grain of salt lol

Canon map note: I imagine this map only shows the large, intercity railways. Cities like Nimbasa, Castelia, etc likely have smaller, more complex subway lines all over the city like we tend to see IRL.

Canon map note 2: In an IRL setting, these rail lines are likely far less straight and angular than on these maps and could probably make a lot more sense if drawn with a freer hand and consideration for the landscape, but I tried sticking somewhat close to how it's presented in the game.

International (wi-fi) line: In the game it's the wi-fi line. In a non-game context I imagine this line is one that actually leaves Unova and goes to a neighboring region.

Subwayness: While not all of these lines are 100% underground like they might be in the cities, I like to think quite a few of them are partially or primarily in tunnels. Many lines go across water without a major bridge* on the map, or straight through harsh environments like mountains or deserts, some of which may be more convenient long term to go under rather than through. With the technology of the Pokémon universe, I imagine large stretches of underground train tunnels are entirely possible. (*Maybe there's smaller unshown bridges for the trains, but at least the line that goes right through Castelia's port to an island I'd like to believe could be underground under water)

Battle Subway: The Battle Subway itself likely only runs on these intercity lines.Assuming IRL distances rather than in game walking distances, depending on the length of the line, a lap or two could be a full days work for the bosses. Non-battle trains likely use these same tracks.

Anville Town: The branching path on the Anville line is strange, as it doesn't seem to point toward any known location. It could be pointing toward some unlabelled town or landmark, though I've seen some people posit that it stops at the Celestial or Dragonspiral towers (though they seem too far away for me to agree). My personal headcanon is that rather than the large branch shown on the original map, it's actually two branches going to Anville Town; a large alternate rail to help with rotating/moving trains going in and out of the rail yard there.

Pokémon World Tournament: Located in or very near Driftveil City, it was added in BW2 by Driftveil gym leader Clay. Considering Driftveil is a city, it could have multiple subway stations, one of which just happens to be close to the PWT. Alternatively, it could be a bit of a distance away and thus have it's own station.

PokéStar Studios: Located in or very near Virbank City. As the major intercity lines don't quite hit Virbank itself, I imagine Virbank only has one intercity station near the studio if it's within Virbank itself. That, or it has no intercity stations and one must travel the distance between Virbank and the studio to travel further.

Unity Tower: Literally this train goes through a port and right into the ocean to reach an island. This island is only accessible by boat. I'm convinced this train goes under the seafloor. That or it has a super cool Marine Tube situation where it's a subway tunnel, but the tunnel is transparent and the ocean and water pokémon can be seen out the train windows.

Trying to make ultimate pokésona... A shame I cannot be the red fog monster from Unova's pokéstar studios..

If you've played Pokémon Black 2 or White 2, you may remember the lost Xtransceiver plot where a person named Yancy or Curtis (depending on whether you're playing as Nate or Rosa) loses their Xtransceiver, and frequently calls the player until they can return it. They can't see each other until they first meet because Yancy and Curtis are using one with a broken camera. After returning the Xtransceiver to Yancy/Curtis, the player can then call them and meet up with them multiple times at the Nimbasa Ferris wheel as they slowly develop a crush on the player.

But you see, I have recently fallen into the Yancy x Rosa ship hole (of which there is incredibly little (shout out to the exactly three fanfics on AO3)).

Yancy is secretly a TV idol who frequently appears on TV, but she is nervous and secretive about this fact. While talking to Yancy anonymously, Rosa slowly becomes more and more famous (taking down Team Plasma, beating all eight gyms, Pokéstar Studios, winning at the PWT, becoming the champion etc.). So imagine if Rosa is equally humble about her rising fame, and because of the broken Xtransceiver cameras, she's able to hide that she's THAT Rosa from her. But Yancy slowly starts figuring it out as Rosa appears on TV more and more, and that beautiful voice sounds more and more familiar. When they finally meet, Yancy is absolutely starstruck. It was, in fact, Hero, Movie Star, Champion, etc. Rosa returning her Xtransceiver. And she is even prettier and sweeter in person.

A set of old sketches featuring everybody's favorite Pokémon character! Yotsuba Takaiwa~! ...oh, what's that, you have no idea who she is? Whaddya meeeeeeeeeean by that, ehhhh? Hmm... Weeeeell...

Yotsuba Takaiwa is a detective in the employ of the World of Pokémon's International Police. As a teenager, she was the lead actress of a popular costumed hero tokusatsu show produced by Pokéstar Studios, but following a horrible incident involving Team Plasma, she became disillusioned over the studio and quit. She joins the International Police sometime later, honing her newfound talents of investigation and deduction. Her birthday is April 28th, and she is bi/pan.

She has a sharply intuitive and surprisingly poetic mind, is fantastic at interrogation, is beautiful and skilled enough in matters of physical intimacy for any lucky partner, has an incredible wealth of cultural knowledge, and is more than athletic enough to throw down alongside her Pokémon for the sake of Justice... and she's kind of a fucking mess of a human being. She's stubborn, extremely easy to fluster, terrible at being romantic but hella down bad, terrible at processing negative emotions in a healthy way, and is filled with self-loathing and a slowly festering misanthropic streak, not exactly helped by the shady behavior of her employers...

I hope to share stories about her and draw her even more in the future <3

is it mandatory to have a massive and easily bruised ego to take on the league challenge? i swear every trainer that makes that their goal just wants to prove as hard as they can how cool they are and how their pokémon could beat up someone else's so good and how weak and frail other people are, instead of

showing a mild level of compassion and maturity for your fellow man and mon

i dunno, maybe it's because i'm hot off the heels of 5 different battles from some little idiots intentionally blocking off the path from virbank to pokéstar studios until someone could beat them and it still pisses me off that they were waving around their pokémon like they were just the Things That Enabled Them To Do That. i missed a really important meeting as a result of that.

could have paid rent with what i didn't make because of that.

confessions of a champion — 3 / ∞  

“My acting career started pretty early on during my journey as a trainer. It was one of those things where the talent scout sorta dragged me over to the studios when I was leaving Virbank. I don’t know why I agreed to try it out, and I wasn’t even really super into it at first...” she drifts off. She hadn’t even stuck around to hear how that first movie had gone; she would find out much, MUCH later that Brycen-Man had done quite well and that the audience had clamored for a Riolu Girl encore.

“It wasn’t until I was feeling rock bottom that I really started throwing myself into the roles the studio offered me.” Following her breakup with Hale, the loss of her Musharna, and her near-death experience at the hands of Ghetsis and Kyurem, to be specific. 

“It became more about me pretending to be someone I wasn’t than about me being truly invested in the craft. I would throw myself completely into the role just so I could pretend I wasn’t me and ignore all my problems. I found myself in a state of denial, seeking solace in a fantasy realm to escape the harshness of reality.” That bit lasted for several months until her mother had quite literally taken her by the shoulders and confronted her about it. 

She waves her hands frantically in front of her, a nervous giggle soon following. “O-of course, it’s not like that anymore! I do it because I genuinely enjoy it now. Immersing yourself in a role and playing out a fantastic, larger-than-life story is actually pretty exciting... not to mention, I’m in a much healthier frame of mind these days.”

It's Pokéwood time!

A young Trainer from Sinnoh meets a Subway Boss from Unova. What do they have in common? They're both determined. They love their family and friends. They lost someone verrrrry important... and they will move heaven and earth to find them and bring them home.

Space-Time Distortions will try to make them derail, leading them to different destinations through History. But they won't be alone in this journey...

Will this unlikely trio find all the answers they seek and finally get Back to the Future?

A mix of action, angst, comedy and romance for the new Pokéstar Studios movie!
