Oh man, I actually haven’t been this mad at bioware in years lmao (see my last reblog if you’re seeing this without context somehow). It’s oddly refreshing. Almost comforting even. Like ah, yes, of course they did something stupid, that’s just the world working as it always has. Sky blue, water wet, bioware making an absolutely massive fumble that fills me with burning rage. Normalcy

Oh yeah I also watched LPs of Mouthwashing!! I really liked it. I can see exactly why it exploded in popularity because it does the thing of telling a very tight, self contained story, that doesn't really digress into a ton of backstory etc but bc the characters are built to feel functional, but also more "archetypes" that reflect types of people most of us are familiar with, it inspires people to connect to and imagine more scenarios with them inside and outside of the closed-off scenario that we do get.
Very good Very Straight Man Jealousy-solidarity Bro-Code yaoi built upon a strong foundation of Womansuffering (insert that one Marilyn Frye quote "all that pertains to admiration and imitation is reserved for other men / heterosexual male culture is homoerotic, it is man-loving"). The most gentle moment between guys being 1) Curly taking over doing the psych report bc Jimmy has been using it to sexually harass Anya by joking around and 2) Curly saying "dw bro....I gotchu thru these hard times just like before " (🤔)
I really liked Jimmy's character and how they wrote him as a shitty person basically from the beginning. I feel the way sometimes people write shitty people characters can often come across cartoonish and unsatisfying to me, but in this case i thought it worked really well. I think the reason why it does so is because of the efficiency of the story; we don't really need a lot of external things verbally telling us to condemn him or huge drawn out reactions to his actions; it simply shows us what he does, how it affects people, and leads that for the audience to participate in the reaction, in experiencing it. I think leaving that space for people to react to a story and have their feelings is pretty important in a work.
I think these takes of his character I read were one of the best I came across; (here and here, from a jimanya shipper lol so just heads up if u read other posts). The ordinariness of the situation I think is what connected me to it. Jimmy isn't a highly unusual sexual deviant separate evil species or anything, but a very sadly common type of man in these settings whose selfishness and demeaning of women is enabled by the Bro-Code support or cluelessness/apathy of people around him. He and the others are also in an exploitative and dangerous work environment that doesn't incentivize conflict or speaking up about ill treatment even if individual people are "nice." The connection between rape culture not just to the Bro-Code relationship but also to the overall working environment felt very clear to me, kind of made me think of reading Ducks last year for more complex and irl personal exploration of capitalism, environmental disaster, and experiences of women in male-dominated industries. It strikes me in that scenario that the men in those situations often are indeed exploited and under lots of stress, but still don't think of their fellow women workers as people...
In the end the story is fairly simple, I think I liked that it was short and had good emotions in it, very strong and impactful design to carry things along, movie-ish in that sense. Its also bc of its short length one of those fandom pieces where I can see it starting to cannibalize itself already since the original work only has so much material to offer, so fandom will just have to start eating itself and coming up with increasingly divergent works before settling down. Still, glad to be able to share the experience as a person of non-gamer experience

why does veilguard let you start the "first qunari warden" side quest as soon as you get access to the rivaini coast but you can't finish it until way later when you've basically completed taash's entire companion quest line and also it's like the only side quest you get for that area

Yknow what. As an idv noob i must say this. It's time i ask the big Question: why do they look like dolls🗿
I DONT KNOW ACTUALLY. STYLISTIC CHOICE I SUPPOSE
i like to think they look like dolls to re-tell the story of what happened before. its like if youre doing a puppet show, you need the puppets to tell the story. the dolls are just substitutes for their actual selves. they tell the story of what happened in the manor games

Yikes... I was a huge Pretty N' Punk Sasha defender but now that I actually have her doll...😬
People were right about her screening not matching the other girls. Which I suppose isn't a huge deal, but they could have at least given her darker make-up. And I love that they gave her curly hair, but they should have done something a little different, and made the color a bit darker. I like her outfits a whole lot, aside from the weird suspenders they put on her pants (cut those off first thing) but the silver boots are odd. Idk, all the other girls have black boots, and black suitcases, but Sasha's for some reason are different.
The worst thing, though, is that they lightened her skin tone. I did notice it in her stock photos that she looked a bit paler, but thought it was maybe just weird lighting. But nope, her skin is definitely lighter than her other dolls that have been released since the revival. Was really hoping MGA would have smartened about about that, but I suppose I was putting too much faith in them.
When I noticed that her doll was cheaper than the others, it brought me back to being a kid and seeing reduced prices on the Sasha dolls because she was less popular. But in this instance...it seems pretty justified.

denuvo as an anti-piracy strategy is completely lost on me tbh. every time i go to buy a game and it has denuvo, it's automatically added to my list of do not buy/always pirate games. that's disgusting, i don’t want that shit on my pc. if the game gets cracked i will be playing that shit illegally. godspeed

Sparrow I must Bequeath to Thou a Request for BNHA Fic Recs
Tumblr media
...
It seems that I am well-positioned to accept this noble (re)quest!
Pray tell, what strikes your fancy this fine evening? One-shots? Fandom-favorite epics? What emotion are we going for: gut-wenching terror, some top-of-the-shelf whump, gorgeous prose with a fairytale stylings, the most ridiculous crack you're read in your life, character studies, quirk meta, a love letter to canon, canon thrown out the window (with fireworks)?
Intrested in any AUs? Fairytale, fantasy, quirkless, different quirk, vigilante, support-class, alt track herorics, etc?
Do you have a favorite blorbo? Pairing? Tropes
Any rating guideline? Anything you're not intrested in, vaguely dislike, or violently hate?
I will gladly pursue my collection to find some nice fic recs for you Raven :)

I’m going to venture into some genuine Taylor swift criticism and then probably be done for now because she is truly boring to me and I’ve giggled at all the bad lyrics.
There’s just something a little off with everything she puts out. Something not quite connected to a recognizable human experience. It only even sort of works when kept in this weirdly claustrophobic context of one hopelessly out of touch billionaire’s interpersonal drama. It’s the musical equivalent of a nostalgia bait movie that is nothing but references to other, better media properties. Enjoyable for anyone invested enough in the tangential lore but to everyone else it’s bizarre, disjointed, and feels like an ad read. It’s lame not because it’s clumsy but because it isn’t. It is someone who has not had a very interesting life giving you an unending elevator pitch as if they were Audrey Hepburn. Someone mistaking “uncommon” for “interesting” and “relatable” for “truth”. She lacks the ability to say anything I find remotely compelling.
She is a “don’t talk to me before I’ve had my coffee” mug.

Google seems to know I'm going to see both the current Globe productions later this month and keeps recommending me reviews of them. I'm not reading them because I don't read reviews and prefer to be "spoiler free", but this headline:

okay this has been bugging me for a few days so im outsourcing to tumblr to see if anyone here has talked about it/is talking about it even though the book is a few years old. is there a consensus on morgan from bernardine evaristo’s girl woman other? ive been reading it for a class and it just screamed borderline transphobic character written by a well meaning cis author who has “concerns”. idk is there some 5d chess im missing? am i reading it too literally? whats the deal with it
