Having fair weather friends is so hard. Last year I let the fair weather friends move aside as they pleased and let friendships and blessings form on their own. Lo and behold, my life was still fun, still exciting, and wonderful. At the end of the year, I posted things about my travels, my husband, some trips taken with other friends, and some wishes for 2025.

That fair weather friend suddenly wanted to be best friends again, as my life was “interesting enough” again. My successes seemed more noteworthy, and the trips I took quietly and didn’t post seemed more fun, and my life looked like something this person missed out on.

I don’t really believe in “throwing away” a friend, but I do believe that some people want to be around people who are doing something they deem worthy to them. They might not be as excited to interact if you’re saving money for something, not living up to what they expect you to think is fun or what brands or material items they aspire to. I am letting these people pop in and out of my life, and not justifying myself to them. They don’t get a front seat to my life to compare themselves to, and I get to continue nurturing other friendships and having a good time.

My life isn’t a comparison game, and it’s not something I need to defend. I have goals and dreams that aren’t something that is measurable. If a friend is only sticking around for those reasons, they’re going to be really bored in 2025!
