What has been happening in the world of motorsports?
I probably forgot a lot of stuff since I took too much time to post it, but the roundup is under the cut. All mistakes are my own!
Drivers and teams
All teams will have a shared launch event in London for next year, all drivers are confirmed to take part in it and there should be famous names like Madonna and Justin Bieber (who is funnily enough blacklisted from Ferrari after repainting his against their rules hehe) also Max already stated he would rather be sick that week than be included
Update there is slight backleash from fans because it sold out very quickly and then tickets already get resold for much higher price
Also Ferrari already announced their own launch event in Maranello and all Italian fans (or fans physically in Italy) that buy tickets to their museums can be entered into the giveaway for tickets to get there
In 2025 VCARB should be named Racing Bulls
They should also be using some parts from RB20 (I think suspension?) on for Las Vegas which should speed them up
Dan Fallowes left Aston Martin’s position of technical director after Brazil
Also Aston Martin scored a new partnership with Puma for 2025
According to FIA’s newest controls Red Bull didn’t use the front bib to alter the ride height between quali and races so there was no cheating from their side
Antonio Fuoco will do a junior FP1 session for Ferrari in Abu Dhabi in Carlos’ car after Ollie can no longer be considered as junior (he drove 3 races and the rules specifically state no more than two to be considered junior)
Nico, Este and Carlos has been cleared from their teams to do Abu Dhabi post season tests for their new teams
The same cannot be said about Lewis but the date when he will go to Maranello for the first time has been set already, as have been the details of him driving f1-75 since only old spec is allowed outside of texting and filming days
To nobody’s surprised Alpine will use Mercedes PUs from 2026 onwards (it should be a 5-year deal as of now and since it ramps up the value of the team I expect them to start looking for a buyer after 2026)
Inaki Rueda (yes, THE race strat head from Ferrari that we made petitions against) joined Audi under Binotto (he replaces Zehnder who will move into a different position in the team)
Red Bull accused certain teams that acquired their engineers and mechanics over the years from cheating with tyres by inserting a small amount of water in them to help cool them down and Pirelli responded that they found no evidence for this so far (also red bull thinks so because they were the ones who tried to find a way to cheat with this but weren’t successful SO FAR)
James Vowles mentioned how after all the heavy crashes, with only 3 races to go and a small budget, it will be difficult to bring parts to Las Vegas which caused a few ill-minded articles about no Williams in Vegas BUT the truth is they might bring in old specs and with no spare parts but they will be there
Merc is preparing a special goodbye livery for Lewis for Abu Dhabi (and you can be a part of it if you sign up on their website and get chosen)
Audi (or Stake because it will be funnier what I say next) is selling a stake in the team to Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund
Recent interviews with Toto (a motorsport podcast and the new motorsport book) show him as a pretty big loser because he spoke about Lewis mentioning that Sainz Sr told him about the move in Abu Dhabi 2023 and he texted Fred who left him on read and he also said that Lewis saved him some trouble hinting that they would need to get rid of him because of… *checks notes* lack of cognitive sharpness since everyone has shelf life??
Williams will add more yellow color to their Vegas livery for Keeper sponsorship
Silly season
Sauber confirm both Valtteri and Guanyu are out of the team at the end of the season and their 2025 driver line up is Nico and Gabriel Bortoleto (who untied the relationship with McLaren where he was on loan)
There are growing speculations (almost confirmed tbh) that Val could become Mercedes’ reserve driver
There are also MANY speculations about Franco: Horner visited Williams’ motorhome and they rumoredly offered to buy him for 10m and Williams said no unless they come up with a bigger check (Briatore is also looking at the possibilities of hiring him which would put Jack Doohan aside after he signed the deal with them for next year)
There are rumors Checo could get replaced next year, there are ones he will keep the seat and that he will bring more sponsorship money (choose your fighter)
What happened in the sport recently
Toto Wolff was missing from Brazilian GP
To celebrate Senna, Brazil had special pole award with Brazilian colors, special top 3 caps for the podium in yellow and green and with “Senna” at the back and Lewis drove Senna’s McLaren as the honorary citizen of Brazil
McLaren said the WDC was never their priority, and they always went for the constructor’s title after Brazil where they made Oscar let Lando in front twice in the same weekend (el oh el)
Little hats off to Fernando (it’s not really news but he deserves it), his back pain was so bad in Brazil he couldn’t even get out of the car afterwards, yet he decided to finish the race for the mechanics that worked to get the car repaired for the race after he crashed it in qualifying the same day
Women in motorsport and juniors
Alex Powell became Italian F4 rookie champ for 2024 I thought that is very neat
Rafaela Ferreira becomes another confirmed member of F1 Academy’s 2025 line up and will be driving for VCARB (she is the first female race winner of the Brazilian F4 Championship)
The 2024 F1 Academy champ (so most likely Abbi Pulling) will get a fully funded GB3 seat with Rodin for 2025 and 20 paid days of testing in the car before the season
Callum Voisin will stay with Rodin in F3 for 2025
There is rumor (which I wouldn’t believe so far) that Briatore is interested in Franco Colapinto and would like to set Jack Doohan’s contract aside for him
Dino will be racing for DAMS in F2 for the rest of the season to replace Juan Manuel Correa (yes but also nooooo)
With Jack confirmed for Alpine 2025 (for now at least) there are speculations of Paul Aron possibly becoming their reserve driver since the current TP of Alpine was also his boss in Hitech
Max Esterson will finish the season for Trident in F2
There is a RUMOUR for now that Roman Staněk could have a deal with Invicta in F2 for a full season seat next year (please and thank you)
Thomas Bearman (yes, Ollie’s baby brother) became first confirmed British F4 driver for 2025 (he will be racing with Hitech since he already had two races with them)
Chloe Grant is leaving the world of single seaters but wants to explore other racing options
Hailie Deegan will be driving Indy NXT in 2025 with HMD Motorsports
Richard Verschoor is switching to MP Motorsport after leaving Trident, meaning Denis Hauger is out of F2 for the rest of the season (he will move to Andretti in Indy though)
Nikola Tsolov (my arch nemesis) became the newest part of Red Bull junior academy
Roman Bilinski will be Rodin’s F3 driver in 2025
Nikola Tsolov will be Campos’ F3 driver in 2025
Nicola Lacorte will be DAMS’ F3 driver in 2025
Fia, rules and future of the sport
Honda got fined 600k for engine budget cap breach (incorrectly filled out documentation) and Alpine got fined 400k for engine budget cap breach (late submission of the documentation)
GPDA made an Instagram account and put up a joint statement/an open letter to Bey Sulayem mentioning swearing, jewelry and underwear rules and urging the president to change his tone when talking to and about the drivers and be transparent about the use of money they get from all the financial fines as it is unclear as it stands now
FUNNILY enough, Sulayem who is biggest voice calling for lack of politic gestures and speech from all sport figures in F1 congratulated Trump publicly on his elections campaign
Domenicali said to be ready for the news very soon which should be linked to the rotating calendar for European races he couldn’t stop talking about for a year now (after Monaco extended its contract it could be Spa and Zandvoort and also potentially Monza and Imola)
Oh, also he said that Argentina is among the candidates who would like to get added to the calendar
Race director Niels Wittich was fired from his role unexpectedly (according to him, he only got told on Tuesday morning) and he will be replaced by Rui Maques from Las Vegas on
Paolo Basarri also left the role of FIA compliance officer (and yes, he was most likely fired as well)
Monaco will stay on the calendar at least till 2031 after extending their deal, the date will be moved back to the start of June starting from 2026 (happy pride to all the non-straight non-cis chirlies out there we stay winning) so it will no longer clash with Indy 500 and the new deal includes higher hosting fees (of course)
Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei leaves his position in the lead at the end of the year but will continue as an adviser (they are apparently restructuring so let’s see how it goes)
Drivers will have cooling sets for extreme heat races from 2025 onwards (when FIA proclaims the race as extremely warm one that is)
The rookie sprint got a green light from all teams but they will need some preparations to make that happen so they will aim to have it ready for 2026
Also there should be gender neutral wording in the FIA rules starting with 2026 onwards
Ohh and! If a car cannot start the race, the grid should now be brought closer
Other series
Arthur Leclerc’s team Scuderia Baldini won the Italian GT championship
Kinda not my playing ground but: Norman Nato will be driving for WEC Jota Sport team (they partnered with Cadillac tho, also he will be teammates with Jenson Button)
Joseph Loake drove Aston at Silverstone as his prize for winning Autosport Young Driver of the Year (and apparently his time was pretty good?)
Jak Crawford became Andretti’s reserve driver for Formula E
REMINDER MACAU GP THIS WEEKEND (before I forget :))
Another thing I am not really following but I just learned Nascar works in playoff system until 4 people stay (Joey Logano won for those who wanna know!! Also, the guy with most points ended up p5 WHAT)
Logan Sargeant did a seat fit with Meyer Shank Racing Honda and will be testing with them next week as well
Seb is in talks with WEC next year with Porsche (probably for Le Mans only tho)
Robert Schwartzman will leave Ferrari WEC at the end of the season and go to Prema in IndyCar, meaning we will also need a new reserve driver with Ollie in F1 and Arthur with his own race weekends
Toyota Gazoo Racing won WEC constructor title, Jota won the hypercar title
Enzo Fittipaldi will be doing IndyCar testing for McLaren (so random)
Non-sport news
With Lewis leaving, Mercedes put up a vacant position for Marketing Operations Driver Clothing Executive
Ferrari partnered with IBM on a multi-year basis starting in 2025
Oh, they also partnered with Chivas Regal whiskey (so I suppose this is what the leaked Charles by the piano pic is all about)
Williams also scored new deals with Zoox/Robotaxi
F1 Fantasy will feature a new mini league for Las Vegas only
Car fucker fun fact of the day: Bugatti W16 mistral set a new open roof speed record of 453.91 kmph
Las Vegas is apparently struggling to sell out the tickets for the race so there are many exclusive offers and sales (also apparently, they are giving away a lot of ticket packages to influencers)
Ferrari partnered with Gladiator movie producers so the main actor (Paul or Pedro I forgot I am sorry) went to Austin with them and on the other hand Charles and Carlos went to the premiere
Daniel and Max played padel which is something I would normally not mention on my blog even at the gunpoint but apparently a 13-year-old kiddo beat them (which makes it funnier that they did good when max was partnered with Charles that one time so I am automatically ranking him highly above most other drivers and you cannot stop me)
Carlos was at Maranello this week and the Scuderia clubs (are they still called that?) threw a little goodbye party for him with cake and a little plaque
McLaren will have a little fashion show with Abercrombie in Las Vegas
Speaking of Vegas, they partnered with Snoopy and made a special edition merch only available in shops there
Kit Kat became F1’s official partner (which is sus when they have publicly been Checo’s sponsor for years now)
Wait ok this rumor is so funny I need to add it: apparently there are rumors at Norwegian gossip websites that their princess could be dating Franco
Max was on some charity sim racing and apparently his car made fun of Lando, so people got into a lot of discourse
Ollie will be at Autosport Internation Show at NEC in January
Damon Hill is leaving Sky Sport after 13 years with the team
Yeah help, did you see Pierre has told kids in a podcast that him and Charles got asked for a threesome/polyam by some fan once????????

Hi Waru! I wanted to ask you because you seem to know a lot about moto2 stuff, but how much of a difference does it really make if you’re on a kalex or boscoscuro? Or is it more the team itself that makes the difference? (and the rider ofcourse)
Hi there anon 👋👋👋👋👋
It really depends on the rider and the team really. Let's go back for a moment to 2022, when Arón said that 'Boscoscuro has to be ridden like Marc Márquez, while a Kalex is ridden like Álex Rins' he had ridden both bikes, so he does understand. This tells us that a Boscoscuro is an aggressive bike, which doesn't necessarily mean their rider has to be aggressive, and a Kalex is a gentle bike. So kind of a Kalex is like a Suzuki/Ducati/Yamaha while a Kalex is more like a Honda or a KTM.
Now each bike has their own differences. A Boscoscuro chasis will prefer a flowy track such as Aragón, Philipp Island, Argentina (which is also a low grip track) or Silverstone. The Kalex on the other hand seems to work better in twisty and Stop&Go tracks such as Catalunya or Austria. On top of that, until the Pirellis, the Boscoscuro seems to work better in low grip conditions, Pedro himself said that, hence why Fermín did such an amazing job in the Asian and Australian leg of the championship last year.
This year, however, the Boscoscuro bikes have said over and over again that their bike prefers the soft compound. Alonso in more than one occasion has said that the bike demanded the soft tyre. And the MSI team had said the choose to put the hard compound to study how it'll work when they are forced to use it, meaning that bike has clearly a preference. This make me think that they might have a grip issue this year. It also adds up when you look at the results and you see that Kalex has been better than them at their strong tracks. Maybe it's just an adaptation issue that will be solved by next year as in general Boscoscuro has a solid and competitive package.
Now, about the teams, it influences in 2 ways. The first one is when a suplier like Kalex has that many teams (12) and riders (24), they have to choose the 'top' teams. Meaning not all the teams have the same material or get it later. On the top of my mind, top teams are KTM, Italtrans, Marc VDS, Gresini and Yamaha. This blows my mind because Fantic had better results but is not a top team according to to Kalex.
That same thing applies to the riders because top teams will have more saying than other, and that translated on how they help or hinder the bike development.
On the other hand, as Boscoscuro is as small manufacturer, they allow all riders to give their opinion and feelings on the bike. It also allow them to share all the date. They still decided who get the material first, and so far it's been first Fermín, second Alonso then the MSI team. This might change now that the Marc VDS also got the bike, and apparently Yamaha master camp too.
The second way a team can affect the riders, it's the teams dynamic. This is why a rider like Roberts struggle in Italtrans, but is doing much better in American Racing. Their rider advisor (ex-rider) took him under the wing and help him settle in London where most of the team lives. This helped him more settle. That same team dynamic is also what makes some rider feel more heard or ignoring and increase their confidence. An example of this is Arón, in the Pons team he was very heard and he was given what he asked, however what he needed is someone who told him 'no, focus on what you have before making the changes' whenever he got lost, and he got it with Jairo Carriles.
Now rider's innate riding style does affect because it means they will need to change their riding style more or less. It's also about how quic they adapt or can change their riding style and their ability to change it.
Overall, it depends on each rider, but overall, I will said it's the rider's riding style and their ability to change it is what will affect more.
I hope this helps anon.

Why You Should Replace Your Tyres
While they seem invincible, tyres degrade over time. The tread depth wears away, reducing grip on wet roads significantly. Rubber also hardens through oxidation and temperatures fluctuations, causing blowouts.
We therefore recommend replacing when tread depth reaches 3mm and inspecting monthly for cracks/damage. Every motorist should also check tyre pressures monthly - low pressure results in uneven wear, poor economy and handling issues.
Our mobile technicians can advise accurately on the condition of your tyres using advanced TreadDepth gauges during fitting.

Here is some typical pricing for mobile tyre fitting services:
Call-Out Fee Many mobile tyre fitters charge a call out fee to cover the cost of traveling to you. This can range from around £10-£30. Some companies offer discounts or waive the fee completely for emergency call outs or multiple tyre purchases.
Cost of Tyres
The tyres themselves make up the bulk of the total service cost. Entry-level budget tyres start around £40, while high-end premium brands run £200-£300+ per tyre. Expect to pay £60-£100 for good mid-range tyres from known brands. The width, diameter, tyre type (summer, winter etc) all impact pricing.
Fitting Charges
The act of professionally fitting and balancing replacement tyres usually costs from £15-£30 per tyre. Some companies include this tyre fitting cost in the overall price. Minor services like puncture repairs or tyre pressure checks may cost £10-£20 total.
Balancing & Wheel Alignment
Correct wheel balancing and alignment ensures vibration-free handling and even tread wear. Many fitters include balancing as standard with new tyres, but there may be a £15-£30 charge per wheel otherwise. Wheel alignments cost around £40-£70 for the full service.
Disposal Fees Reputable mobile tyre companies remove and ethically dispose of your old used tyres for a small £5-£15 disposal fee.
VAT As tyre fitting is considered a service, VAT at 20% is payable on labour and any call out charges etc. This is included in all quotes for full transparency.
So in summary, a typical full service for 2 mid-range tyres including mobile visit, balancing and disposal might cost around £150-£220 including vat. Additional wheels would incur fitting and balancing costs per tyre. Always get full upfront quotes.
Our coordinators discuss requirements, check stock availability and provide accurate quotes before dispatching your chosen mobile technician at a convenient date/time. Home visits typically take 30-60 minutes from start to finish.
With over 550 positive Google reviews for cheap mobile tyre fitting in Finchley locals trust time and time again, you can rely on us for safe, convenient and excellent value services. We look forward to getting you back on the road!

Tyre preview: Pirelli delivers exciting tyre allocation for Spa
Tyre preview: Pirelli delivers exciting tyre allocation for Spa By Balazs Szabo on 27 Jul 2023, 12:00 Formula One’s tyre supplier Pirelli will provide teams and drivers with an exciting tyre allocation for this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix, bringing some of the softer compounds of their range to Spa. After using the three softest compounds at last weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix, teams will have similarly soft compounds to work with as the field heads to Spa. Pirelli has nominated the the C2 as P Zero White hard, C3 as P Zero Yellow medium and C4 as P Zero Red soft for the Belgian Grand Prix. Following the alternative tyre allocation that made its debut at the Hungarian Grand Prix, drivers will once again have 13 sets of slick tyres instead of 11 sets. However, the weather conditions could mean that slick tyres will hardly come to action with rain expected to multiple phases of the race weekend. The tyre selection is the same as it was last year, meaning that teams can build on the data and experience they gained a year ago. However, it is an exciting choice considering the nature of the 7.004km Spa circuit. The longest track on the Formula One calendar Francorchamps is a circuit where the tyres are subjected to considerable forces. The most challenging part for tyres is the compression at Eau Rouge followed by the climb up to Raidillon: consisting of a high speed left-hand turn, where the downforce squashes the car into the ground, followed by another high-speed right-left kink where the car goes light at the top of the hill onto the Kemmel straight. The circuit also had the biggest difference in elevation of any track all year. The highest point is at Malmedy (around 468 metres above sea level) while the lowest is Paul Frere (around 366 metres above sea level). That’s a difference of 102.2 metres: more than the height of the Big Ben clock tower in London. As for the strategy, nearly all the teams opted for a two-stop strategy last year with all three compounds having been used throughout the 2022 Spa F1 race. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen lined up 14th on the grid after a penalty but won the race with a great fightback, starting on the softs and then completing two stints on the medium. After relatively low pressure limits at the twisty and slow Hungaroring, Pirelli will mandate high minimum starting pressures at Spa which has been a norm for the Milan-based manufacturer on high-speed tracks. For the front tyre, the minimum starting pressure will be set at 25.0 psi while the rear pressure limits will be set at 23.0 psi. The camber limits will be -2.75° for the front tyres and -1.50° for the rear tyres. via F1Technical.net . Motorsport news https://www.f1technical.net/news/

This hat was designed by the milliner Graham Smith for the 1985 Pirelli calendar and features the famous tyre tread pattern of the Pirelli P6 tyre. The calendar was introduced by the Pirelli tyre company in 1964 as a trade publication featuring women in 'glamour' photographs and it quickly became a cult item. Each year the company chooses one of the world's top photographers to shoot the calendar. In 1985 the theme of the calendar was 'Fashion' and photographer Norman Parkinson shot models Iman and Anna Andersen wearing accessories and clothes featuring the tyre tread pattern. Known for his mastery and superb millinery technique, Graham Smith was a fitting choice to create the hats for this Pirelli shoot. Smith studied at Bromley College of Art and the Royal College of Art. At the beginning of the 1960s he moved to Paris to work for the house of Lanvin-Castillo, then later returned to London where he worked for Michael of Carlos Place. In 1967 Smith set up his own business in Mayfair, becoming one of Britain's leading milliners.

London Concours 2022 Crowns Best in Show
- The London Concours presented by Montres Breguet, opened the doors to the City’s Honourable Artillery Company yesterday morning - Around 100 vehicles, from ‘The Pursuit of Speed’ to ‘The Italian Spiders’ and ‘Great Marques – Mercedes’ gathered on the five-acre lawn - The Best of Show Award went to a Toyota 2000GT, one of just 351 built and fully restored in 2012 - Other class winners included a Ferrari 250 GT California SWB, a Mercedes 300SL ‘Gullwing’ and a Jaguar SS100 - Visitors were treated to pop-up boutiques from Montres Breguet as well as luxury food and drink from Searcys and Veuve Clicquot - Tickets for Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th June are still available at londonconcours.co.uk/tickets, from just £35
The London Concours presented by Montres Breguet opened its doors yesterday to a crowd of thousands in stunning sunshine for the first day of the event.
Hosted at the Honourable Artillery Company, a five-acre oasis of green close to Bank, the event played host to the most incredible collection of vehicles ever gathered in the City. In total, around 80 cars were on display across eleven classes. The main concours event classes include ‘The Pursuit of Speed’, ‘Japanese Jewels’, ‘The Italian Spiders’, ‘Great Marques – Mercedes and ‘Great British History. Each of the classes was packed with rarities, from the Ferrari 250 GT California SWB to the Koenigsegg Agera S. The London Concours’ expert committee of judges picked an extraordinarily well-preserved Toyota 2000GT as the ‘Best in Show’. The 2000GT was designed to act as a halo model for Toyota’s range, and with Yamaha’s help it turned out to be one of the 1960s most memorable GT cars. Its 2.0-or 2.3-litre straight-six, with between 138bhp and 148bhp on tap, was matched with a standard limited-slip differential and all-round disc brakes – both firsts for the Japanese auto industry. It was also the first Japanese car with rack-and-pinion steering. Its top speed was a heady 135mph, and just 351 cars were built in total; this is one is chassis no. MF10-10129. Originally sold in Mozambique, it went to Portugal in 1976 before appearing on eBay in 2007 with 42,000km on the clock. It was fully restored in 2012. This year the Chairman of the Judges, Peter Read also awarded the Chairman’s Award, an award based on the car that he would most like to drive home himself. This year it was awarded to the 1962 Ferrari 250GT California SWB. Its beautiful Scaglietti- crafted body covered a lighter chassis and 276bhp version of the 3.0-litre Colombo V12. To ensure this supreme grand tourer stopped as keenly as it accelerated, it was fitted with the same disc brakes as its 250GT Berlinetta SWB cousin, and wore 185VR 15 Pirelli Cinturato tyres. It’s believed that a mere 56 examples of the SWB California were ever built. The judges, led by members of the London Concours Steering Committee, not only awarded an overall winner, but a winner of each class, too. Best in Show – Toyota 2000GT Chairman’s Award – Ferrari 250 GT California SWB Pursuit of Speed – Sponsored by Montres Breguet – Koenigsegg Agera S Highly Commended – Jaguar XJ220 Fins and Chrome – Sponsored by Adrian Flux and American Classic Magazine – Cadillac Sedan de Ville Highly Commended – Chrysler 300F Japanese Jewels – Sponsored by Concours of Elegance – Toyota 2000GT Highly Commended – Mitsubishi Evo 6 Tommi Mäkinen Edition Great British History, Sponsored by Engine Notes – Jaguar SS100 Highly Commended – Invicta S Type The Italian Spiders, Sponsored by London Concours – Ferrari 250 GT California SWB Highly Commended – Fiat-Abarth 2200 Allemano Great Marques – Mercedes, Sponsored by Moss Automotive – Mercedes-Benz 300SL ‘Gullwing’ Highly Commended – Mercedes-Benz 600 LWB Outside of the main concours event, there were plenty of other astonishing cars on display. A special feature celebrated the best ‘Coachbuilt and Concept’ cars, including a one-off Jaguar XK180 concept and the wild Mercedes F2000 Imagination, including its joystick-style controls. ‘The Collector’, which each year shines a light on one person’s car collection, showcased the cars of Sukhpal Singh Ahluwalia, including his pristine Jaguar E-Type, Porsche 356 and Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Andrew Evans, London Concours director, said: “As ever I’m in absolutely no doubt that this astounding selection of vehicles is the greatest collection ever assembled within the City of London, it is always a genuine pleasure to be able to share these very special cars with the thousands of visitors that come here. I’d also like to extend thanks to all of our partners for making the London Concours such a success, as we now look to replicate this brilliant first day across our ‘Style Day’ on Wednesday and ‘Supercar Day’ on Thursday.” Visitors to the London Concours are also treated to pop-up boutiques from luxury retailers like Presenting Partner, Montres Breguet, and pink diamond specialists Calleija, as well as some of the nation’s top automotive specialists. Lotus is in attendance, showcasing the Eletre all-electric SUV, Alpine is displaying its A110 family, alongside an Alpine Formula One car, and Bizzarrini is providing an early public look at its 5300 GT Corsa Revival. Coachbuilding specialist, Caton, is showcasing its Healey by Caton creation. The London Concours takes place from 28-30 June. McLaren and Alpine are just too fast for us Gasly | RaceFans Round-up
In brief AlphaTauri struggling in midfield – Gasly Gasly started from the pit lane in Hungary due to a power unit change. He recovered to finish 12th, but admitted the team is still lacking performance. “The last few weekends obviously have been quite difficult and starting from the pit lane now we decided to revert on a couple of the things we did, try to get back to what we did earlier this season. I think there were actually a lot of interesting things. “In terms of performance I think we showed a slightly better pace than we used to do on Friday and we showed in the last couple of of weekends. So definitely some interesting data. “From the pit lane I’m pretty pleased to make it back to P12. At the moment McLaren and Alpine are just too fast for us and Aston on race day seem to pick up quite a bit of pace as well. Still I would say a positive Sunday even though we are quite far from the position we’d like.” Teams stay in Hungary to test More laps of the Hungaroring for Aston Martin Mercedes and Aston Martin weren’t in a hurry to depart the Hungaroring. The two teams will test prototype slick tyres for Pirelli on Tuesday and Wednesday. Bird scores points with broken hand Sam Bird broke his hand on the first lap of the London Eprix, yet finished the race and scored points. The Jaguar driver did not attend media duties after the race. His team confirmed that, on medical advice, he had gone for precautionary hospital checks on a hand injury. He was involved in several bumping incidents during the first lap. Formula E drivers unimpressed with multiple first-lap retirements Jean-Eric Vergne, Oliver Rowland, Dan Ticktum and Nick Cassidy retired on the first lap of the second London EPrix. Oliver Askew also retired later after being involved in the incidents. Cassidy was seen slowing behind the safety car after Rowland and Ticktum’s retirements called it out. He blamed his early exit from the race on Maximilian Günther. “The first seven corners, I was hit seven times by Günther,” said Cassidy. “Fair play for persistence, he obviously keeps at it, doesn’t give up. Fair play.” Rowland’s retirement came after going semi-airborne, his car lifting between Askew’s and the wall on the ramp section. However, he said that the worse damage was when he landed and then subsequently hit Vergne, who was crawling back to the pits with a radiator problem. “When you’re sitting in the seat you just see the sky and think ‘hmm, where’s this going’ but no, I was fine, it wasn’t too big an impact to be honest,” said Rowland. “I came out of turn five and he already squeezed me a bit into the wall and as he was [alongside me] he kind of picked up the front, so I was going towards the wall and then the wall picked me up in the air. “So it wasn’t 10-out-of-10 bad on his side, it was all just a bit unfortunate, just tops off the weekend really,” Rowland concluded. Nissany could become third F2 driver to get ban Nissany, who has driven in F1 practice for Williams, is near a ban Formula 2 is close to banning a third driver for reaching 12 penalty points in a season. Yesterday Oliver Caldwell became the second driver to reach a ban and will sit out the next round at Spa-Francorchamps. Amaury Cordeel was previously banned from the Silverstone round. Now Williams junior driver Roy Nissany has reached 11 penalty points, meaning he will earn an automatic ban if he collects one more. He received two after yesterday’s feature race at the Hungaroring when the stewards judged him entirely responsible for a collision with Roberto Merhi. “The stewards determined that car 16 [Nissany] made an inside pass attempt at the entrance of turn one,” they explained. “The brakes locked briefly and car 16 [Merhi] made contact with car 15 hard enough that the right rear suspension was damaged. Car 15 is judged wholly responsible for the collision.” via RaceFans - Independent Motorsport Coverage https://www.racefans.net

Ferrari, BMW lend expertise to Olympic bobsled, skeleton, luge
http://www.autositenews.com/?p=6931
LONDON — There are plenty of reasons why the sport of bobsleigh is sometimes referred to as Formula One on ice, but few as obvious as Italy's World Cup sleds.
Resplendent in Ferrari red, and with a set of team sponsor Pirelli's P-Zero tyres painted on the sides, they are even liveried to look like racing cars.
Ferrari, Formula One's most glamorous and successful team, have worked with the Italian federation, whose sleds run without sponsor branding at the Olympics, since 2010 and in the run-up to next month's Pyeongchang Winter Games.
Former rival BMW, title sponsor of the World Cup, has long partnered the U.S. bobsleigh team, while McLaren teamed up with Britain's bob and skeleton athletes for the 2014 Sochi Games in Russia.
"There's always the link between the Formula One companies, or any motor company, and skeleton and bobsleigh," says Rachel Blackburn, the engineer who has been involved in Britain's skeleton program since 2006 and who used to work for McLaren.
"There's the Ferrari sleds and the BMW sleds ... when we were at McLaren it kind of made a good story," she told Reuters by telephone from her home in Dubai.
That somewhat manufactured rivalry has died down in the years since Sochi, with McLaren no longer involved and Ferrari's presence low key.
But the worlds of grand prix motor racing and sliding sports still have plenty in common.
Bobsled, luge and skeleton are among the fastest of Olympic sports, with bobsleds reaching speeds over 90 mph. Drivers are subjected to gut-wrenching G-forces, and crashes can be fatal.
And then there is the ongoing debate about cost controls, the direction of future rules, preserving a level playing field and obsessive secrecy — all endlessly recurring themes in Formula One.
80 mph on a tea tray
Blackburn said skeleton, where riders hit 80 mph on what has glibly been compared to an oversized tea-tray, sits somewhere between Americas Cup yachts and Formula One cars in terms of speed and aerodynamics.
"Applied engineering is far more interesting than the pure stuff, so when its applied to something that's fun and exciting it does make it a lot easier to solve problems," she said.
"There is the Americas Cup, sailing, Formula One and the high speed ice sports as well. It's the same concept. In the skeleton we're still looking at chassis dynamics, it's not dissimilar."
The Briton, who lent her name to the "Project BlackRoc" that helped Amy Williams and Lizzy Yarnold win golds in 2010 and 2014, now chairs the world governing body's Skeleton Material Committee.
James Roche, the aero expert and other half of BlackRoc who also went to McLaren after the 2010 Games, married Yarnold last year and has turned his talents to Americas Cup yachting with Ben Ainslie Racing.
Together Blackburn and Roche helped design the "super sled" known as "Mervyn" that may help Yarnold become the first British athlete to repeat a Winter Olympics title.
Yarnold spoke before the season started about the thrill of being presented with new developments for the Games, and the accompanying buzz of secrecy.
Blackburn, who now has her own consultancy, compared that to a Formula One team testing pre-season while keeping the latest front wing developments firmly under wraps until the opening race.
"Athletes come and go and you don't want your work getting spread around the world before you've made it work. so there is quite a bit of secrecy," she said.
"With some of the things ... they will just be brought out at the very last minute. They'll be things we've worked on but not rolled out until the Games because we don't want Germany, Canada, America copying something."
Rules hampering innovation
Although the sled's structural innards are seen only by the competing nation and competition inspectors, Blackburn said there were few real secrets from past Games as coaches and athletes moved around.
Most of the loopholes have also been closed and Blackburn, an advocate for change, said it remained "an incredibly painful process" to bring the rules into a more modern era and encourage innovation.
A skeleton sled has a carbon fiber pan on the outside, but the chassis is made from steel, a material that is both heavy and expensive as well as distinctly low-tech compared to other options.
"There's lots of different materials now that could be used that are much easier and cheaper to manufacture," said Blackburn.
"With the onset of 3D printing, if somebody wanted to get something custom made they could probably do that now, but not with steel.
"The fact that we still limit things to steel makes it quite a lot trickier for small nations now to get things made, especially to the precision that skeleton sleds require given the speeds and the temperatures they are going through."
