PLUS: The "Live Version" from Season 3!

There's always a bit of difficulty in picking rips to highlight from Season 1 in particular, because it sometimes feels like the selection of which rips are worth your time has already been decided by the viewcount. With Season 1's both being immensely popular and lacking a quality filter, many of its best rips have already been dug up and sit well above 100K views - not to mention, many of them wound up being essential parts of later SiIvaGunner jokes and developments. Live and Ooooooooooooooh is no different - you've likely already heard of it - yet it was one of the channel's earliest hits, and remains celebrated to this day.
It's the kind of rip that only truly worked as intended within the channel's earliest few weeks - when it was still fully passing off as an impersonation of the original GilvaSunner channel. The channel's intentions as a bait-and-switch are nowadays deprioritized, in favor of just providing good as rips instead - but back in the day, deviously simple edits such as Live and Ooooooooooooooh were all it took to get a truly legendary reaction. The initial 23 seconds of the rip's runtime being completely unedited just help sell the illusion - average listeners will likely already have tabbed the video out to focus on something else by that point, blissfully unaware of the fate about to befall them. Johnny Gioeli's extended "OOOOOOHHHH" is such a simple, almost predictable change - yet its one that, as soon as you notice it for the first time, you can't help but laugh. This rip is one that I've shown to tons of friends, and the reaction never disappoints. And, of course, it's not a joke that's stagnant - skip ahead in the rip, and you realize that Johnny climbs in pitch throughout it.
Through such a simple edit, the rip became a cornerstone to SiIva's legacy, recognized as early as within Season 1 itself - amidst all of its nostalgic celebration, Memey Hell features a section specifically from this rip, and it would be far from the last time it would be paid respects to. The most touching of these, in my eyes, is the second video attached to this post - a video wherin the rip's creator, PinkieOats, shows the video to the man who composed and performed Live & Learn to begin with: Jun Senoue from the SEGA Sound Team. The genuine laughter and love in his reaction is infectious - I still remember the first time I saw the video when it was uploaded in 2018, and the amount of sheer joy it brought me as a huge Sonic fan and a huge fan of Jun Senoue's work. That such a simple, silly joke has brought smiles to half a million people all over the world, just for being such a brilliant subversion of expectation - and that the joke in its simplicity has become SO easy to replicate and reference for future rips...
It's special, man. SiIvaGunner's period as a full-on bait-n-switcher is far gone now, but for a while it was truly special.

so humiliating to unironically enjoy a silly mashup more than you enjoy either of the pre-mashed songs. one of them comes up on spotify or whatever because it's a real song on a real album and you're like. actually i think i would rather just listen a remix of this song that somebody uploaded to soundcloud as a joke in 2012

Can't Say Goodbye to Yesterday - as performed by Bob Dylan
Season 1 Featured on: Ooooooooo I Smoke The Weed, I'm Bob Dylan Also on: The Phantom Rips: SiIVa has come to, The Phantom Rips: Subsistence
Performed by Bob Dylan Ripped by PinkieOats

Long, long have I waited, to finally be able to talk about this man. With the festivities behind us, I can now go back headfirst into the absolute madhouse rips that truly go beyond understanding. As discussed in my post on Batman V Superman – Dr Pavel's Fly-So-Good, the first Season of SiIvaGunner had so many different, scattered jokes, some of which stuck as eternal parts of the channel's legacy wheras some eventually faded away into obscurity. But amidst the well-off survivors like Grand Dad, Snow Halation, The Nutshack and mm2wood, sits one sole ripper, with his one stupid inside joke. Everyone, meet the man behind Bob Dylan himself: PinkieOats.
The story goes that, whilst putting together a Metal Gear Solid-themed album in Season 1, a ripper had the bizarre idea to do a Bob Dylan cover of Can't Say Goodbye To Yesterday from Metal Gear Solid 2. The cover made it into the album, and channel owner Chaze the Chat was, for some reason, completely enamored by the concept. The two got to talking, and Chaze presented the idea of making an entire album just of these real, authentic Bob Dylan covers of various video game tunes. Just like that, the fledgling ripper by the name PinkieOats suddenly had an entire album all to themselves - a full-on identity and presence on the channel. Though the Bob Dylan rips were never the *most* popular thing on the channel, they've persisted ever since, and encapsulate just how bizarrely out-of-nowhere Season 1's jokes could be.
The entire album - Ooooooooo I Smoke The Weed, I'm Bob Dylan - is fantastic, and it was a surprisingly difficult task to pick which rip to feature on here. PinkieOats' Bob Dylan impression is both hilarious just in terms of pure vocal performance, whilst also having a weirdly well-done adlibbing quality to it. In several of these Bob Dylan rips, the core melody will occasionally be broken up by PinkieOats suddenly bursting out into a Bob Dylan-voiced quip, eg. "I'm Bob Dylannnn!!", "I smoke the WEEEED!", "I play da folk song!", and so on. Even if you don't think the vocal cover itself is all too impressive (which, frankly - how dare you) its damn near impossible not to enjoy just how much fun PinkieOats clearly has performing all of these, he sings in a way where you can full-on hear the smile he has on his face the whole way through.
Bob Dylan hasn't made a full-on cover for the channel in a fair while, though he crops up every now and then for small cameos. Though small and oft with low jokes, his presence on SiIvaGunner is undeniably powerful and unique - there's nothing quite like the sheer magic PinkieOats put into all of his vocal performances, and Can't Say Goodbye to Yesterday - as performed by Bob Dylan is a perfect illustration of that. Amidst all of the seamlessly perfect rips on SiIva made to make their jokes feel subtle and unexpected, there's something really "human" about hearing a rip of just...some guy, doing a silly voice, but sticking to the bit the whole way through. Can't Say Goodbye to Yesterday - as performed by Bob Dylan sits as one of my favorites of the group specifically because of that - its filled with little flubs, pauses in the music for the performer to just sit and giggle for a moment, and completely out-of-nowhere babbling where the music is usually without vocals.
For as much as I praise and celebrate their work here, SiIvaGunner's rippers are just people at the end of the day. And sometimes, that humanity comes through in the weirdest places - even in a faux Bob Dylan cover.
