So I encountered a plural coding in the most unexpected of places recently.

I went to go see a patomine of the grinch recently. For anyone who doesn't know, pantomines are a type of comedic play, usually aimed at kids tho I've seen an adult panto before. They often add a lot plot elements and characters while keeping the general theme of the story.

In the panto there was a character called Charlie. Early on in the play, Grinch casts a spell on Charlie that "splits him in two", creating an "evil" version of Charlie called Pinchit that acts as the grinch's sidekick for the rest of the story (I say evil, more michievous as the play is aimed at kids). It's said through out the play that grinch created Pinchit but other lines imply he already existed.

When Pinchit is first split off he says "I'm free, I'm free". He talks about hating being Charlie and is grateful to the Grinch for freeing him from Charlie. After Pinchit is split off, some kids talk to Charlie about plans he had to do mischeivous things with them but he has no merry of making them.

At the end of the story, after the Grinch turns good, Pinchit doesn't though says he "might learn to be good someday". The Grinch suggests reuniting Charlie and Pinchit but neither seem to like the idea so they stay in seperate, I think Pinchit says something about not wanting go back to how he was before and being happier now. It's definitely not intentional but there is just a lot of lines that imply Pinchit was already there, the Grinch just gave him a body.

I unfortunately don't think there is anyway for you to watch it, I couldn't find any videos online. I did find a website selling the script but even if you were willing to pay, they only sell to performance groups who plan to do the play. Though if I ever do find a video of it I'll let you know!
