Is it just me or does the kh3 dearly beloved layer up all the versions from other games? Cuz that's really cool
I flippin love KH music asks; these are always so funHMM, I never really thought about it; let’s see! Here are a few of the things that I think make each DB unique--KH1: the delayed piano is unique to this versionCoM: addition of Always on my MindKH2: self-contained, oboe leading Always on my MindDays: flute focus, flute leading Always on my Mind0.2 & BBS: self-contained, violin focus Coded: harp focus, use of pizz, oboe leading Always on my MindDDD: self-contained, use of pizz, +1 waltzX: choir, bouncy BC: organUX: relentless piano harmony, picardy cadential movementKH3: self-contained, piano focus, harmonic movement restricted to the Cmajor for a huge portion of the tuneComparing the previous iterations to the KH3 one, the KH3 version seems to me that it’s pretty unique among all the iterations we’ve been given. Although it shares some similarities to a few elements from the UX and KH2 versions, it has a style in the arrangement and instrumentation that’s more similar to the orchestrations from the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra concert with its piano concerto-y focus to really let Benyamin Nuss (I assume) demonstrate his abilities! Harmonically, it’s neat that KH3 sits on a C major for a while to build up the eventual parallel modulation (CMaj->Cm) to Ab at just under a minute in. It’s also really unique that she changes the actual Dearly Beloved melody to fit within this new harmonic context in a way that other versions haven’t done before (using Es instead of Ebs, phrase ending on a G instead of a Bb). There are also some references to the style of the Dearly Beloved Concert Paraphrase from the Kingdom Hearts Piano Collection--namely those falling power chords and the triplet rises that can also be heard in Sinister Sundown from the same piano collections. This version’s so hopeful and happy in a new way because of Shimomura’s unique use of the C as the tonic for so many of the resolutions in this version, and it’s wonderful

A Key a Day: Ab Major/F Minor
Hey there! I haven’t been on in forever and probably only reblogged some stuff but I have had 0 time to make the post, also I started school so yeah, these might not be daily as before, I’ll post them when I have time. Well, finally, here’s Ab Major/F Minor!
Also yeah I’ll probably be stealing some of these from @four-flats because she has great taste in music and I have very little pieces in Ab. As with all major keys. (Yeah okay maybe I’m stealing ALL of the Ab pieces from her but... well...)
Ab Major
D. Shostakovich: String Quartet no. 10
J. Sibelius: Finlandia
F. Mendelssohn: Concerto for Two Pianos
F. Chopin: Polonaise Fantaisie
A. Dvorak: String Quartet no. 14
L. V. Beethoven: Piano Sonata no. 31
E. Elgar: Symphony no. 1
 F Minor
D. Shostakovich: String Quartet no. 11
A. Vivaldi: Violin Concerto “Winter” from The Four Seasons
D. Shostakovich: Symphony no. 1
P. I. Tchaikovsky: Symphony no. 4
L. V. Beethoven: Piano Sonata no. 23 “Appassionata”
J. Brahms: Piano Sonata op. 5
F. Chopin: Piano Concerto no. 2
Okay I give up. Four flats is not my thing. I don’t know if I’ll be doing Bb Minor (Db Major I’m sure not, because I know really 0 pieces in that key) and if I will I’ll probably mix it up with something else. Coming soon I guess? Next post is probably going to go into the sharp kingdom and Bb Minor is going to be included maybe.
