During this time he has undertaken an extensive amount of continual post-graduate professional development. Tim then settled in Sydney in Australia in 2004 to become the Senior Physiotherapist and Clinical Mentor/Educator at Get Active Physiotherapy in St Leonards. During this time Tim has been a highly acclaimed presenter at 6 international FILEX conventions, educating the fitness industry on corrective exercise programming and injury prevention. He has also lectured on the Certificate 3 Fitness and 4 Master Trainer courses at the Australian Institute of Fitness, writes for Fitness First magazine and has appeared on Sunrise on Channel 7. Met the support worker she seems really nice and chill. They had booked me in for weekly support but I asked to just do fortnightly. She said she’s happy to just do anything I want. So I have no idea it seems pretty overwhelming but we’ll see.
Then saw a random physio for my elbow and wrist. She said it’s the ulner nerve being irritated which I assumed. She massaged it which helped and I think my neck is tight again so that’s triggering it. Hmm I wonder if I’m getting headaches and sore shoulders again as I’ve decreased the prednisone again... maybe I’ll just go back up to 15mg. The pharmacist said methotrexate can also cause headaches so idk.
Then had a mri of my SI joints for the rheumatologist. Annoying I’ll have to wait another few weeks to find out the results. I don’t know if anything will show up. I’m hoping it will so we can diagnose AS but I have a feeling it won’t really show much. It’ll be a matter of waiting till the inflammation in my SI joints progressed or that it’s rheumatoid arthritis. But it was a anxiety provoking as they like put a huge belt over my hips and strapped me to the bed. It also made it hard to take deep breaths and just triggering being strapped to a bed. I’ve had a lot of mri but never had that happen?
Then me and my friend went and got Ben and Jerry’s and walked along Bondi. My hip felt a bit better today. I feel like the nerve pain has settled heaps but idk if that’s because I’ve been taking lyrica/gabapentin, or it’s just settled. I honestly feel it was just my body reminding me that it was the time of year I hurt my back and got the nerve damage.
It’s currently 2am and I’m not really tired. Idk why. Been tired all day. I need to start going to bed earlier.

Why should Canadians consider Bond University’s Doctor of Physiotherapy program?
In May 2007, Bond University introduced Australia’s first entry-level Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT) degree. The two-year program was developed in response to the critical shortage of qualified practitioners identified by the Australian Physiotherapy Association and various State and Commonwealth health authorities.

Clinical Practice

Why Bianca Spender is skipping Australian fashion week
I dont think I can capture everything I want to in a traditional show format, she explains. My runways are never straight.

Last year, Spender staged one of the standout shows at Fashion Week, featuring a diagonal series of catwalks that snaked through the crowd. The critics loved it but photographers hated not being able to capture the perfect front-on shot. Over a shared meal of grilled whiting fillets, a dish of fregola with seafood that is like a more chewy risotto, and salads, we discuss the front, back and sides view of fashion, as more people explore fashion through two-dimensional images, often on their smartphones. Spender believes social media, specifically Instagram, has had a huge change on the way people can market ideas. I feel lucky because my clothes are better in movement. When online shopping first came out and everyone was straight front, back, sides, I was like, You dont have any idea how that skirt floats or feels, and I was really struggling with working out how to translate my ideas. Movement is at the core of how Spender designs and produces her clothes, joking that skirts must pass the Martin Place test, named after the notorious wind tunnel in the Sydney CBD. Since becoming a mother to two sons, now aged seven and 10, those tests have expanded to include the carrying the baby test to determine dress lengths (Spender doesnt own a pair of jeans).

Spender with Sydney Dance Company's Rafael Bonachela.Credit:Louise Kennerley Spenders obsession with movement was put to the ultimate test recently, when she designed the costumes for the Sydney Dance Companys 50th-anniversary production of Cinco, under artistic director Rafael Bonachela. Some of the dance movements were so physical that three costumes ripped during rehearsals, and there were many repairs required. Each [costume] fitting, the scope of movement was amazing and even if I had mimicked it I couldnt mimic what would happen to the costume when it was on [the dancers], she says.

"I love how everything looks when its long but then you dont protect your body.

She recalls living in big, spacious houses where classical music was often playing and small talk was non-existent, the family preferring to tackle politics or business at the dinner table, sometimes to the bemusement of Spenders classmates. At school she would demonstrate her eccentric fashion taste on mufti days, but it wasnt until Spender reached adulthood that she truly understood her familys notoriety in Sydney's cultural scene.

What that means to me is you have to finish all your food, you live in a beautiful house but you understand the value of money. For a pre-teen Spender, that meant school holidays spent working at her mothers inner-city office, doing every job from tea lady to banking clerk. I am the most ridiculous jaywalker because I have been walking around the city since I was eight, Spender jokes. A firsthand apprenticeship in the Carla Zampatti offices, coupled with her familys work and social ethic, meant Spender had quite a feminist upbringing. I never felt the need to answer to a man, dress for a man, or been dependent on a man for anything. They dont have to approve of how I talk, what I wear, what I earn, what I spend my money on. Last year, Spender reached another milestone when she and Zampatti divided their businesses into separate entities, including a new head office in Rushcutters Bay for Spender. The pair are clearly close, often travelling together overseas or to fashion shows in Australia (both brands are carried at David Jones, for example). But when it comes to their work practices, Spender admits they are quite different. Loading I call myself the tortoise. My mum loves running fast and loves winning. She has racing car blood in her family (both Zampattis brothers were race-car drivers) but I am about the journey. Its not that I dont want the end result to look great. You can get a good result and have a terrible journey but that doesnt mean the same to me. I am [about] the long game. Which comes back to Spenders Fashion Week dilemma. She has a big vision of a project involving 10 women who have influenced her, dressing 10 other women, using her carefully archived collections. Its still morphing but she knows it wont be ready by mid-May, when fashion week takes place. I am probably being too ambitious in what I want to achieve out of it. But at least if I am pushing myself to strive for something. I wont do what I expect and Ill find that new form. (A week after our lunch, Spender phones to say she has decided to sit out of Fashion Week and will instead stage a solo, more intimate event in early May.) Recently, Spender has experimented with salon-style showings, where she revels in getting up close with the clothing and the customer. As someone whos more comfortable at a dinner party for 10 than a cocktail function for 300, Spenders aversion to big-production shows is understandable. At least if I am pushing myself to strive for something. I wont do what I expect - and Ill find that new form. Bianca Spender At a big party, my partners wings will get bigger. Whereas if you have me at a dinner party, I am passionate put me around lots of people and they are asking, Whats wrong with you? I am so not a show pony I find shows an incredible creative process but the way you only get eight to 10 minutes to present your world I remember once saying 12 [seconds] to [stylist] Mark Vassallo and he said, No, 12 is way too long. And I said, That dress took 12 weeks to get right and I cant have it on stage for eight seconds. I want to challenge that.

One point on which Spender and her mother are in lockstep is on the retention of Australian fashion talent (Zampatti funds a scholarship for a UTS graduate to study overseas, with the intention of them returning home). Unlike some of her peers, Spender, who worked in France and Italy in fashion for four years after completing a commerce degree, has resisted aggressively chasing sales or the limelight overseas. We know we [Australia] are leaders in sport compared to our population ... in fashion theres still a, Whats everyone else doing? attitude. New Zealand has a very strong vision for its fashion with a small population but Australia is often very outward looking. We need to find a bit more confidence in ourselves and our own vision and our own style. Our need to be revered by overseas comes from our lack of supporting ourselves and our culture Whenever [a journalist] writes on a designer, its X is stocked on [e-tailer] Net-a-Porter. Do they need to be stocked there for you to love them? A lot of people go bankrupt trying to catch the overseas dollar. I am focused on building my Australianmarket. If my international market comes quicker, great, but I am not running after it. I dont need it to prove to myself that what I do is unique and has a strong vision. It has been a few exhausting past months, though I feel I had a manageable solution for each area in my life that was causing me distress (admittedly a bit after the fact). There was a build up of different things going on especially after things ending with PBJ. I knew that I had a holiday coming up which helped knowing there was a clock on it. I was having my best mates in town and  Bali for a week - what more could a girl ask for.  I had a flare up just before I went away- so I knew that I was overdoing it. I love how it's a gentle little reminder to pull it back.
Work has been a handful however I feel I finally have the confidence back after all the stress, and change that happened last year at work. I really went down a rabbit hole which I have never had in my career to the point that I took personal leave. I never have really updated my blog on that. Surprisingly, a lot of it was to do with my new manager, who has been at work for two months now after finding out she has Stage 3 cancer. She will be fighting it off with chemo for the remainder of the year. She has a husband and two teenage daughters. It's so devastating. I have never seen anyone so brave though in the midst of it or at least being courageous in the public eye. Work is so busy though,  with my manager being away it just leaves me holding the fort. Its been a balancing act of juggling all the components, taking on new workload and trying to navigate my way through. I have always been in pretty busy roles, but I've always known my way and what to do and led my way. The difference in my new role is that I don’t know everything at the back of my hand, I’m still learning. Also, I am dependent on other functions as well which is a different way of managing time. Before I went away for leave, my work bought me flowers just to say thanks and say they appreciate all the work I have been doing. It was a nice gesture as well as a friendly reminder to myself to not be so hard on myself and focus on all the good and my strengths. With the sheer amount of workload, I have put in some tactics, to write a to-do list, get out of work in time ( sounds like the opposite of getting work done, but I need to get out on time to enjoy ‘Sam’ time as well), spending once a week filing emails and reprioritising tasks. Its been working though I'm only keeping things afloat, I haven’t had the time to drill into the big projects.
On top of work, my exercise and gym routine has been out the window. I’ve had a slump in motivation, I have been out of the gym since February and being restricted by an injury which I left to get worse didn’t help. As I've been limited to what I could do. I tried running only to get tendonitis. I started going to the physio, which was the best thing I could have done and I wish I went sooner.  I addressed my tendonitis and started working on my hip mobility and my back pain I had been experiencing. One day I was at work and my right leg just started tingling, my foot was numb and I was so scared it would stay like that. My back has been in continuous pain off and on which is worrying me about how my training will progress. I haven’t been able to do weight lifting ( I had stopped as well cause I knew I didn’t have the strength and had wanted to work on saving at the time for my Europe plan). I have now signed up for a personal trainer at the gym for 1 on 1 session. It was my first week back and it was great! It's a bit expensive, but I see it as an investment. ( Since I'm catching up on this blog post a bit late I can say I have already noticed a major difference in my mobility and reduced pain. I can’t wait to get stronger and be stronger).
Most importantly making constructive ‘Sam’ time. I have been trying to find a balance of social life and "Sam" time. I’ve recently had numerous friends go through horrific breakups and I’ve been giving so much energy I was feeling low and drained. I didn’t realise how much your surroundings could affect you. I love supporting my friends and definitely backing them, as I would want my friends to do the same. I just wasn’t in tune with how I was feeling and probably needed to wind in the reel a bit. My mindset over this time made me realise that I was showing up but not being emotionally present, I had taken things super personal and been a bit sensitive which wasn’t being fair to those around me. Ready for the getaway.
Just before I headed out to Bali, my best mates were here for the weekend and save to say it was an epic weekend. Full of adventures and sightseeing in Sydney and we saw it all. I actually couldn’t believe how much we did - they saw all of Sydney ( Dammit). It was so nice having them here that it was hard to say goodbye ( I actually had a tear over it). Highlights: The Bondi to Coogee walk on day 1 having mad catch ups and yarns, the chef deluxe menu cooked by DK’s sister and husband, the blue mountains getaway and rewarding scones after, halloumi burgers in Marrickville ( even though cheese gives me the bloats and the poos), KB taking over my tinder chats, the ferry to manly, eating the worlds hottest corn chip ( the experience wasn’t pleasant but hilarious after)… I realised I just listed out the whole trip!
There was a small low light for me which was having an icicles moment. When we were in the Blue mountains I was giving guidance on the path to walk and no one was listening to me. The feeling of being unheard, I have done the walk but no one was listening so I walked to the loo. When I came back, Dk and his sis had picked the path we needed to take and I lost it because I had said it like 5 times. I knew this. I threw a childish little tantrum about it and went all quiet and stubborn. I didn’t know how to break free from it. There was a small crossroad at the opening of the path, I got asked which way to go, I just went all silent. They went down the stairs to one of the big views. I snapped out of it pretty quick. Usually, I sink lower into the funk because I’m embarrassed by how I’m acting and don’t know how to act normally its a weird feeling. I have in the past had funks and have had to sleep it off. I also haven’t had a funk like that in a long time but it went as quick as it came. It definitely didn’t ruin the weekend and no one else had even thought about it again but obviously, it played in mind.
I headed straight off to Bali. Bali was the perfect break, I flew over by myself to meet my close friend from back home, NB and her boyfriend (CB). NB had actually convinced me to buy the flights. It was a week of massages, food, relaxing, chilling in my bikini. We had a few day trips, one when we went to Ubud. We did the giant swings, walked through the rice paddies, checked out the monkey sanctuary, drunk coffee which had been pooped out by a Kopi Luwak (a type of cat). Please look it up, its a thing, I wasn’t just drinking cat poo. We spent a day at Finns Beach club, that was heaven we just had food and drink on tap all day long. NB and I swam in the ocean it was bliss. For most of the trip we stayed in the area, we had a villa in Canngu. The area was super laid back and safe. There was a lot of cross fit gyms, massage parlours and whole food eateries. We had dry heat the whole time. Canggu was a nice part of Bali as opposed to Seminyak where there were so many people, and so many Balinese drivers saying “Taxi?”. It did my head in but we spent one night in Seminyak eating and then going for a dance which ended up being just NB and I. It was magical like old times. Bali was a cheap trip and super relaxing. Most mornings, I would go for a walk an explore, grab some brekkie and get a massage then meet up with my NB and CB at the Villa. We had hired two scooters for the duration of the trip but I was not ballsy enough so we did rides. CB would take one of us and then come back for the other, we had a system. I could not drive a scooter and NB attempted only to drive into the wall during her introduction lesson. Its a NO from me. NB and I have been friends for over a decade now, the most beautiful thing about our friendship is it doesn’t change. We can go weeks, sometimes months without talking but for everything to be perfect and just the way it was. She’s always been so accepting and supportive of me and ensures I stand up for what I value and believe in. She also is so raw and honest! Bloody love her, I'm truly blessed with a tribe of amazing girls back home. KB, DK and I talk practically every day and I feel the exact same. I am so lucky, blessed and grateful for the amazing souls back home and a few near and dear here in Sydney.  
Now I have come back from Bali, with my energy revitalised and my soul feels lighter. I think I needed a break and it's so important to take them regularly. I go home often but it never feels like a break as I always cram and overdo it but I'm getting better. Back to the grind.

Winter Has Arrived... (and is nearly gone)
To start with, I know I fell off the wagon in terms of keeping up with this blog… my apologies. In all honestly, other than reading week (which fell in April), my life here was pretty typical of any Physio student - Running a few km’s, playing rec sports, and of course, studying.
Easter was the first holiday away from home, so in order to make it somewhat normal, my roommate and I invited our classmates over for dinner. Did I cook a turkey… that answer is no. I swear, you cannot find a turkey in this country anywhere during Easter time. Believe me, I looked for weeks. The worst is that you see a million on campus everyday. Apparently, you can only buy turkeys during the Christmas season.
And then began the real holidays. My friend Michelle, who I met during my undergrad in Edmonton, came to visit before flying to the Caribbean where she started Medical School. (Thanks again for coming girl <3) Immediately upon picking her up from the airport, a group of us jumped in my rental car (Yes, haha they let me drive here) and headed out to Noosa Beach. The beach itself was really sweet, but if you ever make the trip out here, I highly suggest taking the hike to the “Fairy Pools”. It’s maybe a 20 minute hike out, but so worth it.

And I can’t forget the Australia Zoo. Haha, ohh I love animals. This zoo was the best zoo I have ever been to hands down. Of course I held another Koala, and pet a few Roo’s, but seeing the Tigers was awesome.

Michelle and I went back and forth in terms of where we should go for the remainder of the week. We were obviously going to stay in Australia, but in terms of which city we wanted to go… we couldn’t make a decision. So, how did we decide? We each packed a duffle bag, showed up to the airport early morning and decided to take the next flight out. I have to admit, it is pretty exciting showing up to an airport with no ticket.
3 hours later, we ended up in Sydney! The transit system in Sydney is amazing. We literally hopped on the train at the airport and it was a 20-minute ride into the city. After we hopped off the train, we walked about 3 blocks where we found several hostels. Yes, this was also both of our first hostel experience. It actually was not back at all. We stayed in a large room with 4 other people; all of who were really nice.
As I’m sure all of you seen pictures on facebook, we did quite a few things including a tour of the Blue Mountain’s, surf lessons at Bondi Beach, jet boat tour of the harbour, and the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb. I can’t believe it took me 5 months of being in this country before I tried surfing – it is so much fun. If you snowboard, you’ll pick up on surfing quickly.

And after the week went by, it was back to the grind at Uni for the remainder of the semester. Again, I am going to say how much I love this program, and my decision to go abroad. From a traveling perspective, which is what most of you see back in Canada, Australia is a beautiful country. But there are so many things that I have learned outside of university throughout this experience that many of you don’t see or hear about. Although I could go on for hours of all of the life lessons I have encountered on, I think the biggest for me so far, was learning to live in the moment. It’s hard to believe that 8 months have already gone by. Obviously I miss Canada. I love Canada. But I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who is thinking about studying abroad.

I promised I’ll be better with the blog. Believe me. It took me 2 hours to figure out how to log back in because I couldn’t remember my yahoo email that I had to create just for this thing. Lesson learned.
