Happy release day!! 💕💕💕 I loved this! A regency retelling of the story of Peter Pan and his lost boys we follow the story through the eyes of Wendy. Set in real life with a darker twist I was thoroughly entranced and finished the book in one sitting. I was grabbed immediately and couldn’t put it down. I loved how the author took a well known story and made it their own, with a grownup twist. A sweet romance with friends and the family we choose. If you like action, pirates, good overcoming evil, and a touch of romance then this book is for you. In the heart of Christmas week, on the 27th day of December, I found myself once again immersed in the digital realm of art, this time to celebrate a day that holds a special place in the hearts of dreamers everywhere: Never Land Day. It was on this very day in 1904 that J.M. Barrie's timeless classic, "Peter Pan," premiered for the first time as a play, introducing the world to the boy who never grew up. As I sat down at my digital canvas, I knew that my subject would be none other than Peter Pan himself, a character who has captivated audiences for over a century with his eternal youth and boundless adventures.

The artwork that emerged from my digital brush was inspired by the 2012 CGI cartoon, which reimagines the Darling family in 21st-century London rather than the Edwardian setting of the original story. In this modern interpretation, Peter Pan stands out with his distinctive character design. His outfit, a vibrant green tunic adorned with leaf-like patterns, blends seamlessly with the lush foliage of Never Land. The tunic is cinched at the waist with a brown belt, from which hangs a small pouch and a sheathed dagger, hinting at the adventures and dangers that lurk in the magical island's shadows. His brown, knee-length pants are tucked into sturdy boots, perfect for traversing the varied landscapes of Never Land. Peter's most striking feature, however, is his mischievous smile and sparkling eyes, which seem to hold the very essence of childhood wonder and innocence. His brown hair, slightly tousled, adds to his carefree and wild spirit.

Peter Pan, the protagonist of this enchanting series, is a boy who made a conscious decision to remain a child forever. He resides on the magical island of Never Land, where he leads the Lost Kids from their home in the Nevertree. Peter's life is a perpetual adventure, filled with journeys to London where he invites the Darling siblings—Wendy, John, and Michael—to join him in his escapades. Together, they explore the wonders and mysteries of Never Land, forging bonds of friendship and experiencing the thrill of limitless imagination.

Created by Scottish novelist and playwright J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan is a character who embodies the spirit of youthful innocence and escapism. He is a free-spirited and mischievous young boy who possesses the extraordinary ability to fly and never ages. Peter's world is one of endless childhood, where he leads the Lost Boys on the mythical island of Neverland. Peter Pan is an exaggerated stereotype of a boastful and careless boy, embodying the self-centredness and forgetfulness often associated with childhood. He is quick to claim greatness, even when his achievements are dubious. In one memorable scene, he congratulates himself when Wendy re-attaches his shadow, highlighting his inflated sense of self-importance. In Barrie's play and book, Peter serves as a symbol of childhood selfishness, portrayed as a character who is both endearing and exasperating in his self-absorption.

Peter's nonchalant, devil-may-care attitude is one of his most defining traits. He approaches danger with a fearless cockiness, seemingly unconcerned with the consequences of his actions. In a poignant moment from the original play, Peter finds himself on Marooners' Rock, believing he is about to die. Despite his fear, he experiences only a single shudder, reflecting his blithe attitude towards life and death. With a mix of bravado and innocence, he declares, "To die will be an awfully big adventure." The unseen narrator in the play muses on what might have been if Peter had chosen to stay with Wendy, suggesting that his cry might have become, "To live would be an awfully big adventure!" However, Peter remains forever elusive, never quite grasping the full meaning of life's deeper experiences.

At the core of Peter Pan's character is his unending youth. In "Peter and Wendy," it is revealed that Peter must continually forget his adventures and the lessons he learns about the world to maintain his childlike innocence. This eternal forgetfulness is both a blessing and a curse, allowing him to remain forever young but also preventing him from truly growing and evolving as a person. It is a poignant reminder of the transient nature of childhood and the inevitable passage into adulthood that awaits us all.

Peter's ability to fly is one of his most enchanting qualities, though its explanation varies throughout Barrie's works. In "The Little White Bird," it is suggested that Peter can fly because he is part bird, like all babies. However, in the play and novel, Peter teaches the Darling children to fly using a combination of "lovely wonderful thoughts" and a sprinkling of fairy dust. This magical ability not only allows Peter to soar through the skies but also serves as a metaphor for the power of imagination and belief, themes that are central to the story of Peter Pan.

Peter Pan's presence has a profound impact on the entirety of Neverland and its inhabitants. Barrie describes how the island appears differently to each child who visits, but it is only when Peter returns from his trips to London that Neverland truly "wakes up." In the chapter "The Mermaids' Lagoon" in the book "Peter and Wendy," Barrie writes that there is almost nothing that Peter cannot do. He is a skilled swordsman, capable of rivalling even the formidable Captain Hook, whose hand he severed in a duel. Peter's keen vision and hearing are legendary, and he is a master of mimicry, able to copy the voice of Hook and the ticking of the clock in the crocodile that pursues his nemesis.

As I completed my digital artwork, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe and admiration for the character of Peter Pan. His timeless appeal lies in his embodiment of the eternal spirit of childhood, a reminder to us all of the magic and wonder that exists within our imaginations. Whether he is soaring through the skies, battling pirates, or leading the Lost Boys on another grand adventure, Peter Pan remains an enduring symbol of youthful innocence and the power of dreams.

In conclusion, my digital art piece celebrating Never Land Day is more than just a tribute to a beloved character; it is a celebration of the enduring magic of childhood and the boundless possibilities of imagination. As we mark the anniversary of J.M. Barrie's iconic play, let us remember the words of Peter Pan himself: "So come with me, where dreams are born, and time is never planned. Just think of happy things, and your heart will fly on wings, forever, in Never Never Land!"

Then you get blasted while telling the new arrivals to leave Hook to you. Because he is DANGEROUS! Don't worry girl boss Wendy! You are with airhead! Whhhyyy...

I will never get tired of 2003 Peter managing to get his Hook to blast his own ship, when he got separated from his Darlings. Successfully distracting/handling Hook.
