UNBEATEN FILIPINO FIGHTER JOINS NONITO DONAIRE AT PROBELLUM

LOS ANGELES – The unbeaten Carl Jammes Martin is the latest Filipino fighter to join the ranks at Probellum. Martin (18-0, 15KO) follows fellow countrymen and iconic boxing names Nonito Donaire and Donnie Nietes in signing promotional deals with the global boxing promoter that launched last year.

The hard-hitting Martin – known as ‘Wonderboy’ - challenges for the vacant WBA Asia super-bantamweight title on Saturday night in Paranaque City, Philippines and the 22-yer-old is determined to use Probellum’s backing to represent his country at the highest level – just as Donaire, Nietes and the great Manny Pacquiao have done before him.

“For the last two or three years, my team and I have been carefully studying all possible options and situations that will lay the groundwork for my international boxing success,” said Carl Jammes Martin.

“Our patience has paid off and joining Probellum has been worth the wait. While the company itself is only a few months old, the team behind it are second to none from a boxing and business point of view.

“I have never been so excited to showcase to the world our local culture and my skills as a boxer, and represent my country in the same way that Senator Manny Pacquiao did, the Philippines’ greatest pride.

“My career will not go wrong with Mr. Richard Schaefer calling the shots and with all of his great advice. To my Wonderboy Team, this is the moment. Let’s do this!”

Probellum have also signed up 17-0 Filipino super-flyweight Jade Bornea – known as Hurricane – as part of their ambitious global plans for boxing.

“The country has produced some remarkable fighters over the years and the people support its boxers with incredible devotion, so we are thrilled to be able to add Carl Jammes Martin to our other Filipino fighters.

Artillery veröffentlichen heute neues Album 'X'

Am heutigen 7. Mai haben Artillery ihren zehnten Longplayer X via Metal Blade Records veröffentlicht. Die Dänen Artillery mögen sich zwar schon Mitte der 1980er an der Spitze der Thrash-Bewegung etabliert haben, sind aber auch knapp 40 Jahre später noch eine Killer-Band. Mit ihrem angemessen betitelten zehnten Album X beweisen sie einmal mehr, dass sie als Schmiede von erbarmungslos harten und unverfälschten Edelstahl nichts verlernt haben. “Wir wollten unsere Markenzeichen beibehalten, also typische Riffs und Hook-Lines in Verbindung mit Aggression und Melodie“, erklärt Gitarrist Michael Stützer. “Die Band versucht stets, Melodic Thrash mit Elementen der Heavy-Bands der ’70er und ’80er zu verschmelzen, wobei wir diesmal auch neue Sachen ausprobiert haben. Beim Komponieren brauchen wir uns kaum selbst zu motivieren, denn wir lieben, was wir tun.”

Bedauerlicherweise starb 2019 Michaels Bruder Morten, ebenfalls Gitarrist, wovon der Rest der Mitglieder logischerweise nicht unberührt blieb. Sein Tod ist angesichts der Tatsache, dass er Artillerys Lieder maßgeblich prägte und bis zum fesselnden Album The Face of Fear (2018) an jeder Veröffentlichung mitwirkte, ein schwerer Verlust. “Es war hart, obwohl er seit 2016 nicht mehr live mit uns spielte, doch er hat uns auch weiterhin unterstützt. Morten suchte als Musiker und Komponist seinesgleichen, hatte viel Humor und brachte mich, indem er starb, zum ersten Mal auf den Gedanken, mit dem Musikmachen aufzuhören. Er hat allerdings immer gesagt, ich müsse mit Artillery weitermachen, wenn er nicht mehr da sei. Wir vermissen ihn so sehr.” Der Hinterbliebene räumt ein, ohne Morten mit dem Songwriting zu beginnen sei schwierig gewesen, da sie einander immer gegenseitig inspiriert hatten, doch die Band riss sich zusammen – nicht zuletzt dank des neuen Gitarristen Kræn Meier, der sie bereits seit 2017 bei Konzerten begleitete.

X wurde im Kopenhagener Medley Studio mit Produzent Søren Andersen aufgenommen, der die Band bei jedem Album seit When Death Comes von 2009 betreut hat. “Es war wie immer spaßig, obwohl wir natürlich nach wie vor sehr ernst zur Sache gehen“, erzählt Stützer. “Mit Søren lässt sich super arbeiten, auch weil er gute Scherze zu schätzen weiß, und am Ende der Sessions finden wir immer Zeit, um uns bei einem Bier ausführlich darüber zu unterhalten, was wir am jeweiligen Tag erledigt haben.” Neben seiner Rolle als Produzent fungiert Andersen in “The Ghost Of Me” als Keyboarder und steuerte auch zu anderen Songs Soundeffekte bei. Außerdem spannte die Band ihre Busfahrer und Merchandise-Verkäufer für vier Tracks als Background-Sänger ein. Jetzt, da die Platte im Kasten ist, können die Musiker für die nähere Zukunft planen, wobei sie hoffen, dass die Corona-Pandemie bald unter Kontrolle sein wird, damit sie wieder auf Tour gehen können. Die momentane Situation eignet sich allerdings auch dazu, einen Blick darauf zu werfen, was sie in ihrer langen Karriere alles geleistet haben. “Die Vorstellung, seit fast 40 Jahren unterwegs zu sein, ist wahnsinnig schön. Ich bin ungeheuer froh und dankbar, das tun zu dürfen, was ich am liebsten mag – Platten machen und Konzerte für tolle Fans geben. Hätte mir anfangs jemand weismachen wollen, ich würde ganze zehn Platten machen und Konzerte in über 60 verschiedenen Ländern geben, hätte ich es nicht geglaubt.”
