Sargon and Gardening
Sargon of Akkad was a great Mesopotamian king and conqueror, reigning c. 2334-2279 BCE. Though his origins and early life remain obscure, he has long been associated with gardening. The Sumerian King List, dating from the Ur III period (c. 2100 BCE), described Sargon’s father as a gardener or, more precisely, a ‘date grower.’ This biographical tradition (which has not been historically verified)…

Blue tiles from Babylon
Blue tiles from Babylon
The Museumsinsel, the museum island, on the river Spree is home to a range of natural history, and art including old masters, sculptures and antiquities. Berlin’s cathedral is also on the island, although not a museum as such. In the middle of the complex of museums, which are kindly interconnected these days, is the Pergamonmuseum. Named after the Pergamon Altar which it is home to, it was…

Berlin: Neues Museum
The Neues or New Museum is four stories and contains Egyptian artifacts on the first couple of floors. The 3rd and 4th floors are dedicated to Germanic history. From pre-history to a bit more modern. The gem of this museum is the bust of Nefertiti. The bust may be down an eye but it feels as if she is watching. There is clear quartz over the remaining eye, the light glinting off it gives a…

Last Saturday I went to the Pergamonmuseum with a dear colleague and spent such cozy evening there! ✨✨ We're both rather on the introverted side and I think we made such an incredibly good match for visiting a museum together. 💗 For the occasion I went for a rather casual balletcore-inspired look featuring my Metamorphose cutsew and my beloved casual dinosaur dress. 💐

The little bits
The Pergamon Museum was designed to display large reconstructions. It is home to two other large exhibits, the Pergamon Altar (for which it is named) and the Mshatta Façade. Both of these were closed to the public during my visit. However, despite only seeing two of the grand items in the collection, there remained plenty of smaller items in the rooms on the other side of the Ishtar processional…
