What a smile! What a sweetheart! Oh yeah, Walfredo Reyes Jr. is also a spectacular drummer/percussionist. Seeing Wally in action last month killing it with Chicago, and then meeting him afterward clinched that he’s the trifecta. This time with him on Game Changers makes clear all three, even if he didn’t lift a stick or slap a cajón.
Wally brought his A+ game, treating us to stories about his musical royal family. From his maternal grandfather, his brilliant and accomplished father, Walfredo Reyes Sr., who played with Josephine Baker, Louie Bellson, Bobby Darin, Dionne Warwick, and Debbie Reynolds to name a few, and passed on the percussion/drummer whiz gene to his talented son, who also played with Debbie Reynolds, as well as Ricki Lee Jones, Richard Marx, Sergio Mendes, Smokey Robinson, Boz Scaggs… but we got the stories about his time with Santana, Traffic, then Steve Winwood, Lindsay Buckingham and how he got to Chicago, with a little help from his brother, Daniel, of the Zach Brown Band.
We talked Wally’s serendipitous twist with Chicago, this band he adores and has been a part of for 13 years - the woman he loves and met thanks to them, how the pandemic thwarted their wedding but not their marriage, their idyllic life off the beaten trail, Wally’s passion for all music, his influences, heroes, side projects, his amazing kids, and perhaps a few dreams he’s yet to live. I have no doubt he’ll manifest them.
Wally’s career has run the gamut of every conceivable genre of music and he’s seemingly mastered them all. As he has the gift of grace, kindness, warmth, passion, enthusiasm, and genuine charm.
My heartfelt apologies for being under the weather and careless setting up the Live––last week’s title still haunting the space, and after 4 hours of trying discovering there’s not a damn thing I can do about it. I owe Wally big time for this, and for that drum/percussion solo, he shares with Ray Yslas in the Chicago show. Wow. Just wow!
Chicago tours 8 months of the year, please do yourself a favor and don’t miss them, and check out all the other cool stuff in Wally’s World.

I had such a great time with Wally! Come for the fun, stay for the inspiration.

Should I pay the musicians in my project to film a video?
Should I pay the musicians in my project to film a video? Hi there, I really need some outside opinions about the situation I'm in as it feels really tricky to me. A couple of years ago I got talked into starting a new music project under my name by a boyfriend at the time as I'm a singer. He invited a guitarrist to join it. Since then, the boyfriend and I have seperated and there is another percusionist now. Overall in 95% of gigs I don't earn more than the other musicians, despite being the one that organizes and coordinates everything and it being under my name. I never got into music to.make money although I think it's important that musicians are paid but it's certainly not why I went into this projec. I've had a lot of pressure placed on me at times to get gigs over the past couple of years, to the point where I barely enjoy doing them anymore as I really want to focus on producing music rather than gigging the same covers over and over again. We have just recorded a song I wrote but the percusionist really put pressure on me to pay him to record and hinted that there werent enough gigs. There are a couple lined up now.and I really want to record a music video for the song but feeling that pressure again to find gigs or pay him. I so regret being talked into putting the band under my name because I feel like I'm left with all the responsibility of directing it, paying for videos and recordings without actually earning more than the other musicians. Probably with the right management I wouldn't be feeling this way but it's so hard not to feel pressured.and taken advantage of when they get offered semi regular gigs. I've found this type of pressure has really put me off trying to advance in music and occasionally participate in bands where everyone is equal and people are just there because they like the music and feel so much better. I suppose I get the most outward recognition but I couldn't care less for it. Can anyone offer any insights Submitted May 04, 2024 at 01:24AM by MielAmazonia https://ift.tt/BZmYSNP via /r/Music

The drums at the beginning of Dance Macabre
The drums at the end of Rats guitar solo
The drums at the beginning of Faith
The drums throughout Ashes
THE DRUMS
Mountain is a spindly, drumming demon and we should worship at his sock-ed feet.

Today, Live! I had the thrill of watching drummer extraordinaire Walfredo Reyes in action last month killing it with Chicago. A highlight of the show was when Walfredo jumped out from behind the kit and switched places with percussionist Ray Ray Yslas. Wow, just wow! Wallfredo has been with Chicago for 11 years, starting out as the percussionist and then taking over the drum seat. Meeting Wally in the green room was almost as thrilling––he’s passionate, exuberant with stunning credits.
A long-time member of Santana, Wally has toured and/or recorded with Carlos Santana, Traffic, Steve Winwood, Jackson Browne, Celia Cruz, Gloria Estefan, David Lindley, Ricki Lee Jones, Richard Marx, Sergio Mendes, Smokey Robinson, Robbie Robertson, Joe Sample, Boz Scaggs, Christina Aguilera, Ricky Martin, Johnny Hallyday, Khaled, Lindsey Buckingham, and many others.
Wally’s family is music royalty. His father, Alfredo Reyes Sr, played with Josephine Baker, Louie Bellson. Bobby Darin, Dionne Warwick, Juliet Prowse, and Debbie Reynolds, to name some. His daughter, Lilliana de los Reyes is on tour with George Benson, his brother, Daniel Del Los Reyes, is the percussionist with the Zach Brown Band, his actor brother, Kamar de los Reyes and his wife Sherri Saum are on The Fosters, and both of his sons, Joseph and Gabriel de los Reyes are musicians on the rise. Sounds like a dynasty to me.
There’s lots to talk about and with Wally, we’ll have big fun doing it. Can’t wait.
