Dozens displaced by apartment complex fire in North Austin

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin Fire Department crews and Austin-Travis County EMS medics responded to a three-alarm fire at an apartment complex in North Austin on Jan. 7. The call came in at around 3:58 a.m. on Jan. 7 for the Ventura Apartments complex, located at 9133 Northgate Boulevard near West Rundberg Lane and US 183. When crews arrived, they found large amounts of fire across the complex and worked to put out the fire while also rescuing people trapped in their apartments.  Read more here...

One of the worst things that can happen to a person is to have his or her house burned down. Your home is your haven, your refuge, and everything important to you—your family and your material possessions—are kept safe inside. In the event of a fire, what or who would you save first? Imagine the trauma that you have to go through if you are among the 30 displaced residents in the unfortunate fire that took place in Austin. It even happened in the wee hours of the morning, which means the homeowners were most probably asleep during that time. All they could do was run out of their units and save their own lives.

Texas Capitol in Austin Tx

The Texas State Capitol serves as the seat of the state's government, housing the offices and chambers of the Texas Legislature and Governor. It was planned by architect Elijah E. Myers in 1881 and built under the supervision of civil engineer Reuben Lindsay Walker from 1882 to 1888. In 1970, the structure was added to the National Register of Historic Places, and in 1986, it was designated as a National Historic Landmark. The structure, which stands 92.24 meters tall, is the country's sixth tallest state capitol and one of few taller than the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. A $75 million underground extension was added to the structure in 1993 to address a lack of space in the old building.
