You met him at a bar in Barcelona.

It was clear, based on your initial judgment, that he doesn't frequent these establishments. His fingers fiddled with the condensation on his glass. When he's not swiping at the droplets, he's tugging at the tie loosely hanging around his neck.

He had his friends with him, at least, and they seemed to be having a good time. They must be celebrating something or on the way home from a formal event as they're all dressed sharply, youthful faces made a little more mature by the crisp fabric of their suits.

Your blouse and jeans suddenly felt a little too tight, a little too hot when the handsome young man with the cute smile approached the bar, stopping right next to you as he called out for the bartender.

"Another martini, please," he said in Spanish, that much you could recognize with what little of the language you picked up over the past six months.

You glanced up at his face casually, startled when you saw him already looking. You looked away in a panic, feeling your heart leap into your throat.

"I like your shirt," he said, leaning against the bar, head tilting as he studied you.

"T-Thank you," you said in stuttering Spanish. Only then did you notice how low-cut the neckline of your shirt was. "You look great in your suit."

He smiled, sliding into the bar stool next to you.

"I'm Pepe," he declared, in English this time, peering closer at your face as if to gauge if you'd be more comfortable using this language.

"I'm ______," you replied, smiling politely.

"Cute name," Pepe commented, nodding toward the bartender as his drink arrived.

"Not as cute as yours," you responded quickly.

Pepe chuckled, holding his drink up to you. You took ahold of your beer and clinked it against his glass.

"So, tourist? Expat?" he questioned before taking a sip.

You shook your head. "Student."

Pepe raised his eyebrows and nodded. "How long are you here for?"

"Another six months or so," you explained. "I'm on an exchange student program."

"So you're leaving eventually?" Pepe asked again, leaning closer. Your cheeks had heated up significantly at this point.

"Not anytime soon, though. Lots of time to...explore," you offered, bumping his shoulder with yours.

Pepe laughed then, eyes disappearing and his face lighting up despite the dim bar atmosphere. It wasn't the last time you'd look at his laughing face. But how you wished consistently in the months that followed that it wasn't just through a screen.

So now, standing in the middle of the Barcelona track complex, your heart pounds, your legs seemingly moving on their own accord as they start to walk towards what you know is the F2 paddock.

The last you've seen of Pepe in person was nearly half a year ago when you left Spain to return home. Almost a year since your first meeting and you can count on two hands how many physical dates you've gone on.

It wasn't ideal. You're not even sure if you and Pepe were meant to meet. Had he picked up his martini and left, the two of you would never have uttered a word to each other. If you hadn't returned his compliment, your life would look completely different right now.

A year of mismatched schedules, airport goodbyes, tearful last dates, and hours-long phone calls have come to this.

You're here now, walking to the Campos garage. Pepe's outside, warming up for qualifying. He's with his trainer, his back to you, completely oblivious to the grin his trainer flashes at the sight of you.

"Hola, cariño."

Pepe whips around and his eyes nearly bulge out of their sockets as he sees you. You're immediately picked up, giggling as your boyfriend spins you around in glee.

"You're here! How?! Why didn't you tell me?!" Pepe nearly stumbles over his words as he gently takes your face in his large hands.

You beam up at him, laying your own palms over his reddened cheeks. Pepe wastes no time and pulls you in for a kiss, sweeping and romantic and uncaring of all the eyes that stare at you right now.

"I love you," he professes.

It's a wonderful feeling, to stand here and to be able to show the person you love just how much you love them.

"And I love you, mi amor," you reply, balancing on your tip toes as you land a sweet kiss to his grinning lips.

"I can't believe I'm immortalized forever with this clip!"

You replay the video on your phone, groaning when your worried face fills up the screen once again. Pepe cackles with laughter beside you, doubling over, as if your concern for his safety was oh-so-funny.

"Would have been funnier if they did the label thingy as they do on F1," Pepe gasps in between laughs. "'________, Pepe Martí's partner', and then your face looking like that!"

You roll your eyes, but a grin spreads on your lips.

"You were wheel to wheel with your teammate, how else would I have reacted?" You ask, shoving Pepe lightly. "And how would I know that the camera guys were that interested in me?"

Pepe wipes away at the tears that have sprung up in his eyes, leaning closer to you. He leaves an innocent peck on the tip of your nose, giggling as your face scrunches up.

"Anyone would be interested in you when you're this beautiful," Pepe declares.

"I know I was," he adds, gripping one side of your face, tilting your lips upward toward his.

The two of you melt into a searing kiss and all you can do is smile, fingers carding through Pepe's hair.

Not to ramble so late at night but imagine with me for a moment

A newer reshoot of the original Muppets movie. I know movie remakes probably aren't the best idea but I have not been able to get out of my head some ideas of what some muppets who weren't included in the original film's actual story(not the like- theater part, but like the movie itself)(yes I'm talking about Robin and Lew)(also putting Lips in here despite him probably not existing yet)

Like imagine an updated muppets movie with Kermit taking Robin with him out of the swamp(Robin probably was a stowaway in the car let's face it), at the bar when Miss Piggy gets kidnapped and Kermit thinks she left him maybe Lew is the bartender at the same bar Rowlf plays at, Lips as being Actually Acknowledged as Part of The Band in the church turned coffee shop. Just!! So much!! We could throw Walter in there! Maybe Pepe and Rizzo! And Uncle Deadly and Bobo too!

Idk I just got thinkin about this today and felt like sharing :3

i took some of my friends/guildies on a run through 'story mode' (listening to all the dialogue) of shattered observatory recently and some of them learned new stuff despite running fractals often, which made me realize a bit there's actually a decent amount of fractals lore that people might not know or have picked up on, especially if you ran through the fractals pretty fast?? imo it's genuinely one of the most fascinating and well-written areas of the game

so, here, some of my favorite fractal/dessa/arkk lore tidbits (and why i Really Love Fractals):

1. arkk and potentially dessa are implied to be ex-inquest-- in the nightmare fractals, arkk mistakes the players for inquest debt collectors, and in his chaos fractal journal entries mentions his 'witless subordinates', so the implication feels to be that his mists research was inquest funded before he ghosted them. in thaumanova, dessa mentions two of the inquest npcs as having been krewemates of hers-- in ls1 she refers to them as being from her 'old krewe', and still describes them as friends (she also refers to them as 'good technicians', like yknow, the inquest rank). also, it may be for aesthetics, but tiles with the inquest logo are used throughout fractals (and in mistlock sanctuary)

2. simon, the cat obtainable from fractals, is implied to have been arkk's cat as per the headstone next to it (does this make arkk's cat golems make sense? maybe! they're also a cheeky reference to the other cat golems throughout fractals)

3. there was a little incident back in ls1 that revealed the fractals lobby is, itself, a fractal, and it and all the creatures in it loop continuously just like the regular fractals. shattered observatory is also vaguely foreshadowed in it, in a sad way :")

3a. similarly, by the way, the mistlock sanctuary is a fractal too-- ever talked to the npcs in there? go speak to ilia-- and the bartender

4. dessa hates the consortium, supposedly 'lost' her boyfriend (potentially arkk's father?) to them, and is not aware that the consortium are the ones who started promoting the fractals to tyria as an 'attraction'

5. dessa is, in some way, connected to the asura boss at the end of uncategorized fractal-- a small fact we only know from the dreamer collection, combined with dessa freaking out and having to leave when the fractal begins. we don't know their relation

6. dessa seems somewhat aware that she is non-existent/a mists magic construct bound to the timeloops. in a now-lost lore interview from wartower, she is described as being afraid to leave mistlock observatory in case she can't return to it. at the end of shattered observatory, she is much quicker to have the revelation than arkk is-- to the point where you could read it as her having known the whole time

7. and now, my favorite, which is more of a headcanon with a solid lore basis that i tend to go full pepe silvia about-- there's two types of fractal we see: ones that are sort of 'possible' or somewhat alien alternate realities, and then ones that are repeating loops of events that actually happened.

chaos, nightmare, and shattered observatory are all evidently loops of events that actually happened. arkk very much does smash into the fractals, you very much do stop him, dessa and arkk very much do effectively sacrifice themselves to stop the fractals from becoming destroyed, and then the loop repeats-- as they explicitly state it will

here's the thing... during the dialogue at the end of shattered, dessa states that arkk did successfully account for all variables except for the reality that they themselves aren't sentient and are just echoes bound to the fractal loop. thus that arkk's DDR would have successfully worked to extract them from the fractals if they were real, corporeal entities.

but since the shattered observatory is an echo of an event that happened, then just like all the other 'echo' fractals, then there needed to have been actual people acting upon the mists to create the event that's echoed in the first place. that is, it didn't just pop into existence of its' own accord. and while we encounter the fractal looped versions of arkk and dessa, they definitely were real people outside in tyria at some point in time

so... in the original version of the fractal... what actually happened? did a real, corporeal arkk meet a real, corporeal dessa? if so, did his DDR work? did they actually escape the mists, and then the loop in the fractal only ended up like it did because the copies couldn't follow in the originals' footsteps? or was arkk real, only to find that dessa wasn't? if the arkk and dessa we meet are only impressions or echoes of the real things, then where on tyria are the real arkk and dessa?

we don't know!! we simply don't know! we also know very little about the consortium, their connections to the inquest, or the uncategorized fractal! there is SO MUCH lore they could expand upon in future fractals and i really really hope they do ;_;

Durian has created yet another variation of V because I'm just messing around in-game and I had this cool idea...

I can feel the AU mania overtaking me! It is a GOOD pain!!!

I like to call this AU "The Quiet Life" and it's honestly my fave, because I get to write smaller, more intimate stories about an ex-merc just living life in NC and I can create some new OCs to be her friends :).

This one's a 'V never goes to Konpeki Plaza and someone else gets the brain parasite terrorist rockerboy instead' AU. Basically, Valerie took a bullet and fall from a bridge during a gig (James Bond Skyfall-style) sometime during Act 1, before the Heist. Her cyberware saved her life, but she suffered severe injuries.

The injury guaranteed that she would not be able to participate in the Konpeki Plaza Heist, and Dexter DeShawn filled V's spot on the crew with another rising star from the Afterlife almost the second he found out about her situation. It seemed that the city had decided V's lifepath, and it did not include becoming a legendary Solo. Valerie took the hint. She became a bartender and began working for Mama Welles.

That means that while V's met some of the characters she'd normally see, like Evelyn and Judy, she has nothing to do with them. It's kind of bittersweet, and reminiscent of The Tower. V gets to live, but she loses all her chrome (almost everything needed to be removed to save her life) and has to start basically from scratch (she could work as a merc again, but the injuries have had a permanent effect on her, and she can't really bring herself to kill for money again).

Except for some close friends and associates (like Padre, Pepe, Mama Welles, Vik and Misty), V's traditional associates are either dead (Jackie), never met (Panam, Kerry, River, or even Johnny), thought her either dead or left the city (Regina, Wakako) or forgot about her (Judy specifically, after all, V was just some merc she met for like ten minutes and promptly disappeared back out of her life).

Some meals I had in Toronto during the election and immediate aftermath.

M had a show up in Toronto that had him leave on Election Day, and I went with him because I knew no matter what, I didn’t want to be alone for several days following it. I also had never been to Toronto, so this felt as good an opportunity as any.

We spent election night and a few days afterward by the Toronto Airport as that’s where the show was located. I found this local chain called The Keg Steakhouse and Bar, and they had a pretty awesome happy hour where you could get prime rib sliders and tuna tartare for a good price. I also went with the lobster bisque because I wasn’t feeling that hungry, but it hit the spot for something warm and comforting.

The next day, I barely ate as I had zero appetite, but we walked to the Lone Star Texas Grill--another Canadian chain--where they had $4 tequila shots and a really nice chicken adobo quesadilla that hit the spot after I forced myself to do some swimming in the hotel pool in the afternoon. 

Thursday I was determined to actually do something, so I got a swim in and then took the UP Express into downtown Toronto. I had a whole list of places that I wanted to go to, but this was more of a reconnaissance trip to get familiar with the layout of downtown before M and I would arrive the next day for 36 hours in the city. I took a walk to Sud Forno, a fun multi-story Italian cafe and restaurant, and treated myself to a lovely portion of cacio e pepe. I had dinner at the hotel later and it was fine, but it didn't need to be documented--though I did have a strawberry and greens salad as I realized I needed more vegetables.

Friday afternoon we went into Toronto together, and started at Chefs Hall which was a couple of blocks from our hotel. I had another quesadilla (trust me, my food choices will improve with dinner) and M had shawarma-style chicken kebabs and rice with a variety of sauces. I had a lovely conversation with a bartender about the election, in which he said that living in Canada lately had been like living next to a crackhouse, waiting to see if the crack dealer would be let back in. Given the shit that the stupid president-elect has been saying about making Canada a state, I definitely want to come back here to ask him how he feels now.

The absolute highlight of the trip, to be honest, was dinner at Aloette that evening. M’s Canadian colleagues were impressed that we were able to get a spot at the bar as walk-ins, but we settled in for a magnificent meal of beef tartare, an iceberg wedge salad, hamachi crudo, salmon tartare with shiso and compressed cucumber, and some fried chicken lettuce wraps. If anything, it was the meal that really brought me out of my funk because as delicious as the food was, the care given to us by our server really made the meal special. We told her what we wanted, she spaced it out accordingly, and we enjoyed one hell of a meal during our allotted two-hour dining window.

Adina felt inspired enough to paint a picture, and Shaowen decided to chat with her. I tried my darndest to keep him from flirting with her.

I took the babies to the Romance Festival in San Myshuno. Here's Adina drinking the Sakura tea (Nemorino followed soon after).

Adina asked the Romance Guru about her relationship with Nemorino, and he answered that they were a match made to last 🥰

Nemorino was carrying his guitar in his inventory, so I had him busk a little. He even got a little tip from Faye Harris (the mother of Jeb Harris, one of Adina's many exes)

After returning from the festival, I decided to have them end the night in a very special way (will explain further down). But these cupid costumes look ridiculous with the hats and tights.

The Hidden Marigold

Owned by the Dantes family, it's a Mexican style restaurant, originally located in the middle district. Through one of the OmniCorp Holdings subsidiaries, they were able to move to a larger building in the upper district. Being allowed to mostly run without any interference while paying rent to them. For the most part the place stays fairly neutral, but it does have regular advertising displayed for the Big Three.

It's a two story building which uses a combination of holograms and audio recordings to appear like the inside of an underground cave. During the weekends it offers live music along with an open dance floor. The restaurant can also be fully reserved for private events and catering.
