@torens-nightshift replied to your post “Open for Business! Hello~ This is an RP help blog!...”:
Hi!! sorry if this isn't the right place to ask (i still struggle with tumblr etiquette & didn't see anything against this in your rules ><) how do people get started in tumblr rp? i've been quietly observing a few blogs for a while and it looks fun but i feel like no one would be interested in talking to me or whatever ( _ _")
Hello there! Getting Started™️in tumblr rp has two parts, I think. making the actual blog, and networking (while Doing Things.)
Your blog itself probably needs a rules page, this can be anything you want to say or express- some people's rules are specific, some are just a few sentences. Establishing some boundaries or guidelines can be pretty important! But! it's entirely up to you, it gives a first impression to others on you as the writer. People mostly hesitate or have anxiety about accidentally upsetting others, so having something there helps! Even if it's just saying you're pretty chill.
Something else helpful is a muse page- people want to know what kind of character that you are writing! For some they will link to a wiki page, and for some they write out a whole bio for their headcanons- For example if you looked in my Volo's bio, you'd see that he's 32, cisgender, albino, and can see through fog. all headcanon stuff that might not appear in every reply i do! For OCs especially there can be a history section detailing their life and who they are!
The other major half is networking. Following RP blogs, making a promo (which you can make visible in tags;; blahblahfandom rp, multifandom rp, crossover rp, etc.) when you find a blog you are interested in, you can reach out! through ims or asks as well. (If your blog is curated enough and has its own dash/account, your sidebar may of course recommend rp blogs! that's about the only algorithm involved. the rest's work. sideblogs notoriously have trouble because they can't Follow people.) Like, I figure a lot of personal blogs find my posts/blog through tumblr's search function- which i'm still not used to because it's the new default, rather than going into the Actual #tag.
a subset of networking is Doing Stuff. Making headcanon posts, in character posts, open starters, and threading with other people will show off your writing enough for people to notice. Some people turn their nose away if a blog 'only' contains 'too much' RP memes, vent posts, or just doesn't have what they're looking for. While it's not a requirement, it may be helpful to make sure you have examples up to see. This part kind of really never ends imo, networking and doing stuff, but it's pretty essential to getting noticed. But like any facet of the internet or world, there's always someone who wants to talk to you! And would love to hear what you have to say! I'm sure that's something that even seasoned rpers might need to hear, everyone gets discouraged sometimes. It only takes a few people getting going to boost you along tho, so! Try to appreciate people! Y'know, socializing and all that, haha.
As far as some etiquette goes, try not carelessly spam-like or reblog. Since the person is writing a story thread, they use their activity to keep track. 'hmmm i wonder if someone replied today?' i ask! i look in my notes! somebody liked this somebody liked this somebody liked this somebody liked this
oh no! where is my post? it can be a little frustrating, so try to keep likes to real time or so, it's much more manageable. People do enjoy likes and feedback, but the first major reason that people block personals is to avoid this kind of thing. In my opinion, it probably doesn't help that it's a wordless interaction, but it depends! If you're not overdoing it, it's delightful, too!
Replies are much more free game imo, it's words as feedback and a bit more enjoyable. (I'll admit a reply on a pinned post is...a first for but hey! this works!)
Asks are enjoyed and adored. Literally as long as it isn't hate, any tumblr user likes getting asks, but RPers are ravenous, lmao. Some may get overwhelmed by their own workload and have to delete em, but socially speaking people love talking about their muses! Or how they as a mun write!
The second reason people block personals is discourse. I'd say the biggest cultural difference, if you are stepping into rp, is to please learn to share. Especially with the onset of Search showing things even mentioning character names. (some people even cen.sor their muse's name to avoid this.) You've probably seen mockey of kin discourse 'no doubles' and etc. Basically, don't be an ass about headcanons and try to respect people's portrayals. RPers would rather write, so many will not deal with the bullshit and their blog is not for arguing. Trust me that when anons or whoever interject in order to be a dick, you become the butt of the joke for that blog's whole audience. Many people love to write threads with duplicates! But even those whose rules say no duplicates as far as interactions go know that it's not nice to insult people and stay in their lane. Be Kind! Ask questions! If you'd like to share a headcanon of your own, the blog owner might like to see it, just don't be pushy and you're good! They might even have their own headcanon even if they disagree with yours and may share that! Everyone's writing is unique and that's the beauty of it! I've personally even had some random personal reply trying to shut down my headcanon/simping in a belittling way, which....i didn't fucking ask. let me have my fun!!! Sooo yea read the room! Have fun!
hopefully this isn't too much of a ramble but the first two sentences I said are the short and sweet answer :')
#long post#rp advice#torens nightshift#rp newbie#ooooh i rambled. oops! hehe#a doozy.#oopsieeee <3 pff

So I am going to be talking about promos and people’s behavior when it comes to them. Sometimes I seriously don’t think people KNOW what a promo is and why it’s made. Many times, more than not, I see people IGNORING promos, this I am not just saying because I have been touched by this, but because people close to me has as well. A promo is MADE because people want OTHERS to write with OTHERS to interact with and SURPIRSE that doesn’t happen if their promos goes ignored. This also helps them a great deal to see who is interested and not. If you are one of those who goes “but my wall would be full of promos,” then I got a tip for you; delete them after a day or two, in that way, you have AT LEAST helped your other fellow rpers. Also, I gotta mention the SELECTIVNESS when people DO reblog promo. Canon muse(s)? Get reblogged 70% of the time, multimuses and ocs? Gets reblogged 25% of the time, YES, it’s that little at times.
You want a thriving, happy community? Then you gotta tribute and help your fellow rpers out. This is by far the worst community when it comes to these basic things that I have ever experienced and it grinds my gears. It takes 10 seconds and yet, people behave like it’s the biggest chore ever.

Since people don’t read rules all the way through i would like to preface this by saying: TRIGGERING MATERIAL WILL BE WRITTEN HERE. THIS INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO: INCEST, DUBCON, SUICIDAL IDEALATIONS, CHEATING, AND ANYTHING ELSE I WANT TO WRITE. BY CLICKING FOLLOW, YOU AGREE TO BLACKLIST THE TAGS PROVIDED IN THE FORM OF (trigger here) tw. DO NOT FOLLOW ME IF YOU THINK FICTION EQUALS REALITY OR IN ANYWAY HAS ANY REFLECTION ON A MUN’S MORAL STANDING.
HATE WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AND ANY ANON’S I GET ABOUT THIS THAT IS HATE WILL BE BLOCKED/NOT AT ALL ACKNOWLEDGED.
THANK YOU.
about: this is an indie mutuals only rp blog for a multimuse with various fandoms from tv shows, movies, anime, and video games. mun is 25+, genderfluid lesbian, goes by he/him pronouns (but i am genderfluid so i don’t mind she/her pronouns, most just call me he/him) online and name Jay. Previously known as Ares and Snow.
Callout culture: Do not involve me in this. Period. I want no part of it and will block as soon as I see it, tagged or not. I believe it does more harm than good and something like tha is extremely harmful..
content: there will be some pretty heavy material featured here. such as suicidal thoughts, mentions of rape, incest, and anything else I want to write. I will not tolerate hate being sent to me about this and I will block anyone who tries to police me. The only hard limit i have and absolutely refuse to write is pedophilia.
Don’t ever be afraid to ask me to tag something!
side note: if you believe fiction equals reality, please don’t follow me.
discord: is open to those who follow me. simply ask for it. i do not write on discord though. ooc contact is highly encouraged!
disclaimer: i'm in no way affiliated with any of the actors, fandoms, or characters on this blog. Banners, promos, and icons belong to me. Theme was made by inkfated. all screencaps used to turn into icons on this blog are not mine and belong to their rightful owners. Drama: There won’t be any. I’m too old for tumblr’s drama, if you try to start something, make me choose, or drag me into drama - you will be blocked.
DNI’s will get you blocked. I don’t agree with making people choose between people when there are things like blacklist and tumblr’s own filtering system to help you avoid a person
Hate: Character hate, show hate, etc will get you unfollowed. I don’t have time for that negativity, pls tag it so I can filter it out, thank you.
IMs: pls refrain from sending me multiple messages all at once as I’m autistic and it sends me into sensory overloads!!
follow/unfollowing: i usually follow back pretty quick. if i don't follow within a week, i'm probably not going to follow back. 9/10 i do follow back. i will not follow if i see vaguing, callouts, or any sort of drama on blogs. i also will not follow any under the age of 18.
if i’ve been following you for a month and you don’t interact with me within that time limit, I’m unfollowing. I won’t soft block because I’m totally okay with people still following me but I don’t see the point in following if we’re not gonna write.
If I do not follow you back, do not message me asking to write or become mutuals - you will be blocked.
If I block you, do not come to me asking why. It will only get you blocked all over again. Do not ask why i’ve unfollowed you, either.
DO NOT FOLLOW ME IF YOU’RE A MINOR.
side note: if you’re the type to blindly believe a callout because that’s what everyone else is doing save yourself the trouble and don’t follow me.
Memes: Send as many as you want for as many muses as you want just be sure to specify muse or they’ll get deleted! Always feel free to turn meme answers into threads, too.
Do not use me as a meme resource. Send something in or reblog from the source, please.
note: if you send memes multiple times and there’s clearly a way to continue them, ESPECIALLY if we’ve never interacted before, and you keep sending memes but have NO INTENTIONS on replying to them, I will be less likely to respond to them. memes, in my eyes, are used as alternatives to starters. if you don’t respond to them after i’ve responded to quite a few, that’s me putting work into it for no reason really, so yeah.
My triggers: Sharks. That’s it. Just tag pictures of sharks for me please
nsfw: smut will be present here. i can not play the dominant party in smut, please don't ask me too. if you don't feel comfortable with it, we can fade to black, easy peasy. i won't make myself uncomfortable for some smut. All muses involved in smut or ships are 18+. If you think that aging them up is pedophila, do me a favor and get off my blog. Smut may happen with aged up characters but that does not mean it was done specifically for smut. Do not assume.
OCS: I love them. Send them my way, please!
OOC: I post ooc, sometimes quite a bit, sometimes rarely. I am human and I will act as such. I will not tag ooc posts mostly bc i’ll forget. Sorry if that bugs people but like i said, I’m human and I like to write things down and share things with the dash.
OOC note: please do not flirt with me or ask me to date you, thank you!
Shipping: all muses are LGBT+ in some shape or form so if you want to ship, just let me know. They’re pretty open to anyone, though gay and lesbian muses will stay gay and lesbian. I ship toxic pairings and incest so if that’s your cup of tea, just lemme know, and we can work something out if not? That’s alright too!!
As previously stated, all ships and smut scenes are involved with characters 18+. I will never under any circumstance write something with underage characters. Characters, however, can be aged up but are never simply just for the sake of smut. Smut may happen with aged up characters but that does not mean it was done specifically for smut. Do not assume.
wait time: sometimes i can take months, sometimes seconds, sometimes days. I’m not a fast rper, please respect this.
writing: i generally prefer writing multi-para or novella. one-liners or one-paragraphs usually end up getting dropped or made into much longer threads as i have absolutely no chill.
edit: from now on any drafts that are below three paras will be deleted, i don’t have muse for short things.
End note: Do me a favor and like this post if you’ve read my rules. Not needed but deeply appreciated. Also below you’ll find important links:

How to enter a fandom - RPC
Hey guys, time for a friendly PSA from yours truely~
So I’ve been in and out of a lot of fandoms, made friends, enemies, frenemies, grave mistakes and happy accidents. I also see a lot of people come in other fandoms. Most of yall do great but I see some people carry in this weird sort of self deprecating attitude that can immediately turn rpers away from them, which results in; more of that self deprecation. So Im here to hopefully help out with the best ways to enter a fandom or an rpc, make your presence known and make lots of wonderful friends.
Now the first, and most important thing, and I notice a ton of people struggle with it is:
General attitude.
Let me give two examples of some first time posts.
“Hey! I’m new to the fandom. I know my bio and my theme sucks but would anyone like to rp? Maybe?”
VS.
Hey! I’m new to the fandom. My bio and rules are located here, though they’re still under construction I’m really eager to develop them with interactions!”
Now I know the first one is tempting for a lot of reasons. You might not even feel like its all that bad, but up next to the second one it actually sounds a little...depressing, monotone, dry. Even though they start the same, one ends with me feeling like: this person really doesn’t put effort into things, they dont even really want to be here. All my threads with them are going to be lazily written or probably written with half baked enthusiasm.
The second person is happy to be here, eager to interact, admits that since they’re a new blog not everything is perfect. Yet, they don’t talk down on themselves or make it seem like anyone who talks to them will only be taking pity on them.
This is actually a big problem I see in the rpc. Making people take pity on you for interactions and the rule with that is simple:
don’t make people feel like they have to take pity on you.
It’s a knee jerk reaction, I know. We’re all awkward humans on the internet who want to play up our faults. Who wants to say “My stuff is SO awesome! It’s the best”???
Well. You do. You’re new to a fandom. People already have established relationships, character arks, possibly with another version of the muse youre playing. Backstories so detailed it’ll make your head spin. You are literally selling yourself to these other rpers. Don’t sell them “A vacuum cleaner that sucks. No, not sucks up the dirt, it just sucks. Like me, Im trash and dont even have a working vacuum” No one wants to buy a vacuum cleaner that sucks.
Hate to break it to you, but when you say you suck, or your stuff sucks; people are gunna believe you. Or they’re just gunna pity you. And thats not great either.
Heck you might think; why not? So long as they rp with me, whats wrong with that?
Well... lots of things but mostly; pity isn’t a good feeling. Nobody wants to feel guilted into rping with you. Imagine seeing someone on your dash constantly posting about how no one likes them, their character or interacting with them. How they wanna die because they never get asks, no one likes their starters. (Sound extreme? I’ve seen it.) It makes you feel bad right? It makes you wanna like them but like- where do you even start??? They don’t even like them?? What common ground do you have?? “Hey, I see you hate yourself... uh... I hate you too?” Not great. Actually bad. You don’t know how to approach this person without becoming an emotional crutch, and you know they’ll latch on to you and suck every positive emotion out of your body so how do you win?
So lesson one is; People don’t want to be forced to feel so bad that they rp with you, they want to feel inspired to. Inspire some dudes! (or non-dude identifying people)
Presentation!
This is everything. Present yourself. You don’t need flashy icons or a cool promo- let me tell you, I’ve made some shitty promos in my life. See Here
That was my promo for a long as time. Until it was THIS that a friend made for me (A friend that I made. Through how awesome I presented myself. Thanks Vee, if you see this I still love you)
I can’t stress enough how important attitude is because I’ve had both a shitty attitude and a great one in the RPC and let me tell you, nothing kills a blog faster than a shitty attitude. Wanna make a self deprecating posts about that meme that you got 0 asks for? NUH UH. Think again. PITY = BAD, SHORT LASTING FRIENDSHIPS. INSPIRED = SUPER AWESOME HAPPY FUN TIMES FOREVER.
Yo, present yourself in a way that makes people wanna approach you. Get them interested, say something wacky or edgy or if your character is self deprecating then self deprecate through them but DO IT IN A FUN WAY. The people who care about icons and fancy promos usually aren’t worth lasting friendships either. Sometimes they literally spend more time formatting than writings something worth while for you. (some of you really balance it and just love formatting but u know im not talking about u Im talking about those that literally wont talk to us that dont)
So present yourself well and be genuine.
--- WAIT WAIT WAIT- be genuine?? What if my genuine self is self deprecating and negative?
[JOHNNY TEST NOISE]
HELL NO shut the what up I know you’re not, I know that’s a reflex to cover up how insecure you are, I know you hate how pathetic and small you feel so you point out all the things wrong with you before someone else can. That’s not you, and you are capable of more than that.
Dude. (and non-dude identifying peeps) I’m gunna say it again. I’m gunna say it a million times; one day it will sink in. Everybody feels that way.
What?? Octo ur so cool and confident tho
You know how you never noticed?? CANT SEE MY HANDS SHAKE THROUGH THE COMPUTER.
DONT KNOW HOW LONG I HESITATED BEFORE SENDING THAT ASK MEME TO YA.
The internet is a playground because you can trick people into believing whatever you want about yourself. YEP even good things!!! You don’t have to wear your flaws on your sleeve, and you certainly don’t have to wear them like a full body cast that prevents you from doing anything fun in your life.
Take the cast off, take a risk. You literally have nothing to lose. Especially if no one interacts with you as is anyways.
Be mindful
This is more of a trick I use to make myself feel better. I don’t follow a lot of people so my dash is pretty slow. It’s fairly easy to tell when people are and aren’t active/online so I literally have to trick myself sometimes but;
If you reblog a meme and get nothing, step back and ask yourself; am I sure anyone even saw it? and are the people who did maybe to shy to send anything? Or maybe nothing in that meme applies to their character.
As a mute character I am VERY restricted to what memes I reply to. As a character who speaks VERY LITTLE I am VERY restricted to what dialogues I can send at all. This means I’m required to edit memes a little (this is allowed by most meme creators btw) or I need a very good relationship with a character in order to say/sign that many words at them.
And worse case scenario, queue it and reblog it again/later. Its no biggie, some memes don’t make it.
Self reflect
Check out people on the dash. Do they have interactions? What are they like? Is their character more welcoming? Maybe you’re character is more intimidating. You might need to actually seek out interaction.
Tumblr has this huge enigma where everyone wants asks but no one wants to send them. Curious anons come from someone, magic anons come from your peers, followers, friends. Some of them are pretty obvious. Want asks? Send them. We really need to get the ball rolling with this because its honestly a problem. Show some initiative and reach out. It actually feels pretty good seeing someone react to your outrageous anon. And its a lot of stress relief if you play an otherwise very serious character to get to branch out and be silly.
So you send asks, you like starter calls- why isn’t it working?
Well, a stranger knocks on your door and tries to get to know you. Its a little awkward- it can work sure in some cases. But in most you’ll probably close the door and phone the police.
The RPC isn’t as strange as that but what’s easier? Talking to a muse you’ve never met from a blog you’ve never seen before? Or writing a thread with your best bud, throwing in inside jokes and references to your favourite shows- teasing each other about that one embarrassing thing that happened to your muse- yeah. Yeah you get it.
If you have history or at least an idea what someone is like, you will want to interact with them more. I don’t know if you’re some mean... meanie pants whos gunna smack my muse because he offered you a cookie. And maybe you are, but if I don’t know you, or know that your muse is deeply traumatized by cookies, I might take that as you saying “Ew no get away I never wanna rp with you”.
It sounds harsh, but I KNOW it happens. It STILL happens to me, even with people I’m friends with. Even if someone has multiple blogs and I get on fine with one muse, if the other hates me I might get uneasy about sending in asks cause I feel like I’m directly bothering the mun (who I love on this blog but WHAT IF THEY START HATING ME THERE TOO???)
Separation is tricky. We all get jealous or feel neglected when our partners focus on another thread/ship or send mean angsty replies which is why its important to check yourself remind yourself you have value, mun =/= muse and that it’s all in good fun.
Have Rules
UGH no!!! Not rules I hate rules, I dont want to restrict anyone!
Listen. I get it. I was a rule-less blog for a long time. But you know what? You need them. Not just for you, but for the people who wanna interact. I still feel the need to ask people who have rules what they are and aren’t comfortable with. You might not realize it but shit can go down in rps especially in certain fandoms. Even if its just the basics. Write them. They matter.
Unless you’re fine with someone literally controlling your character, or a blog you dont even follow who RPs David Letterman tags you in a smutty thread where your muse and him are married and he’s heavily pregnant with 4 narwal baby’s I- I think you can see where I’m going.
If its just the basics, thats fine, everyone loves seeing that. No god modding, not forced shipping, ect- great. Less for me to remember. Add to it if you need to. Everyone experiences rp different. Make your experience a comfortable one.
(And stay tf away from me Preggo-letterman)
Step away.
If you’re feeling negative, just step away. Do not make a big post about it alerting everyone who follows you because they might not all respond well. If you have close friends in then fandom you can go to, talk to them, vent a little, or just remove yourself and get those feelings out. But remember that no one here is equipped to be your therapist, and we cant all be expected to take the burden from you. It is up to you to regulate your emotions. Use coping skills but please don’t make the fandom or your blog a toxic place to be.
You don’t feel good, and no one reading your posts feels good, and building friendships on not feeling good is just... completely not good.
Im not saying you must be sunshine and rainbows all the time, but feeling bad feels bad and even though rping is just a hobby and a past time you are still reaching into other peoples lives. Leave a good impact, try to be someone you would want to meet in the rpc. Make it a better place.
Tips and Tricks
If you leave with nothing else, please take these:
Send Messages.
IM people, send them asks, get to know them before RPing.
Be kind.
Be generous.
Be enthusiastic.
Be happy.
#PSA!!!#Im so so so SO sorry its so long#I tried really hard to make it entertaining#anyways I just get a lot of people asking me how to enter the RPC and...#I wish I had heard this shit when I started lmao#rp#tumblr rp#roleplay

I’m not one to be that person that makes PSA’s or guides to anything. Everyone is different and blanket guides never work for everyone. But, I have years and years of admin experience, and have been on this site nearly a decade.
Something that frustrates me massively, that I see people say is ‘I feel left out’, ‘I don’t feel comfortable’, ‘I feel ignored’. I am that person that, especially if it’s a friend, and even if it’s just someone who seems nice, I want to fix the problem. When I can’t, I find myself stressed out. But, there are things you can do, so that you don’t feel that way, just a few things I’ve seen.
Don’t decide that people hate you, unless you have valid reason to feel that way. 9 times out of ten, they really don’t hate you, and you’re probably being paranoid. Communicate with them, ask them if they’re ignoring you. I know people have anxiety but communication is key to surviving on Tumblr, especially in the indie world.
Don’t make the other person take all the initiative. People have memes, people have starter calls, people’s inboxes are often opened. Read people’s rules. Often, people are open to plotting. Use their verses. Approach someone with an idea. No one likes to be approached with, ‘Wanna plot?’ If you have an idea already, it helps. If they don’t follow you and their memes are open to everyone and starter calls are, send one. You will never know until you try it. You can’t spend your time worried that people will reject you. Some people will. Some people won’’t get along but if you want to get along and do things, you’ve got to reach out, sometimes.
Put yourselves out there. Put your promo in the tags. Put your starter call in the tags. Don’t spam the tags, every hour but how can people find you, if you don’t put it where people can see you?
Check the tags yourself. See if someone may look interesting to you. They may be nervous too. Reblog a promo that looks interesting. That may even spark up a conversation.
Make yourself pleasant. We’ve all had bad experiences, but how can new people create good experiences, if we’re too careful? Don’t lecture future partners in the rules. Make them clear, but tone is extremely important.
People are here to rp. People want to rp. The stigma between OC vs Canon needs to end. No one is more important than anyone else. Duplicates exist. Embrace them. They probably love your fave as much as you do. Support OC’s that go through the work of making them. It’s good to have limits with some things, but why don’t we stop generalizing with ‘OC and Canon’ and just say characters.
Don’t vague blog about feeling left out, about how no one would miss you, about how no one will reply, about how everyone hates you. That is toxic, attention seeking, passive aggressive behavior and with this rper, you will get blocked, because no one wants to write with people who do nothing but feel sorry for themselves.
Be a friend to make friends. Support each other. They’ll support you too. People are scared to make the first move, but sometimes, it’s easy then.

REN’S GUIDE IF YOU’RE NEW TO A FANDOM !!
hello , if you’re reading this then that means you might’ve thought about joining tumblr rpc and jumped into a new fandom rpc with a new blog. that means 0 posts , 0 friends , 0 anything. you’ve either just a new baby or a veteran who keeps on making new blogs on impulse ( did you mean: me ). you’re very excited to jump start shit but you don’t know how to because you practically have no one to interact with.
fear not , this is a natural occurrence ----- in the first days of joining a fandom , literally no one knows you. should you feel unwanted and unwelcome and just give up and delete your blog because no one will interact with you anyway ? OF COURSE NOT !! or at least try not to , because one thing to keep you going on your blog is hope. that one day , you’ll have peers to write with or even non-mutuals wanting to interact with you. people won’t come to you ; YOU HAVE TO REACH OUT FOR THEM !! second , keep in mind that you did this blog for writing ; everything else follows. people see you love writing about your character and the effort you put in it , they follow you. most of the time , they’ll think “ oh wow this person thought a lot about their muse and that’s interesting , must be fun to write with them ”. you just keep posting in this blog even if no one cares because you love to write.
honestly , a tip so that anyone will interact with you is just be approachable and post things relatable with another person without having being too much of an attention seeker. i , for one , personally scream into the void ic or ooc all the time until someone notice me ( because i’m one year old ) and because i’m comfortable screaming to myself , but that doesn’t mean you keep posting OOC posts because no one likes a blog with no writing and just full of OOC posts. worse is that most of these posts are about being alone and unwanted , and trust me pal , the fandom welcomes you even if you don’t know ----- and that’s because YOU HAVEN’T REACHED OUT. people are very accommodating if you try to get to know them ! however, some won’t really interact with you if you , yourself , show them that you wouldn’t want to interact with yourself because you think you’re “ unwanted ”. bitch , make yourself wanted !! IT’S 2018 , LOVE YOURSELF !!
but ren how can i ask anyone interact with me ? one , PROMOS: it doesn’t mean you sell yourself to satan for photoshop skills ; just make it decent , short , and delivers all necessary info for us to know who your muse is , from what series they’re from , are you indie / affiliated / mutuals only , and what your nickname is. hell , throw an aesthetic quote in there if you want ; just fucking own your brand ! two , IMS: slide into the dms of your fave rper and say hello !! seriously , you have to stop thinking that people will come to you all the time ; you have to do it yourself too especially if people don’t even know you. stop expecting that they’ll care about you and dm you if they don’t even know about you and your blog ; like i said before, PUT YOURSELF OUT THERE AND REACH OUT !! friends you know may help you boost up your promo and encourage you , but the thing is , you have to step up and talk with other people first. stop thinking you’re unwanted , you’re alone , nobody gives a shit , etc. and that’s because you , yourself , are too shy to talk with people or you feel people don’t give a shit. maybe if you talk with them ooc , you’ll know that they too are just intimidated of you or something. you’ll never know unless you ask so JUST SAY HELLO. be nice and don’t talk as if someone is entitled to interact with you ; they’re not. and you’ll have to learn to accept that some people may not want to write with you and that’s okay ; it’s not your fault. people have many differences and preferences and you just have to find your match.
i’m telling this because i’ve always been new to fandoms since i make blogs a lot and it’s rough to start. people don’t interact with me , it just felt so pointless , etc. but that didn’t stop me because i came to this fandom with this character because i love to write. the rest follows ; people see me loving what i do with character , they get inspired and follow and then we become friends. that’s how it happens. it’s not about the fame , the followers number , the quality , the aesthetics ---- it’s about displaying your passion for writing and for this character / fandom. i just dislike it when people post about themselves making their blogs then add “ but no one will interact with me anyway ” because they’ve experienced something like this before and like some sort of pity party because maybe you just hadn’t tried to put yourself out there ; maybe you didn’t do anything for people to know you first ; or maybe you’re just jumping to conclusions. but you have to know that not every experience is going to be the same. it’s okay to feel sad , to feel down about it and tell your friends so they can help, but no one wants to hear that you’re unwanted because you’re not unwanted. you’re not alone. we’re here but maybe we just don’t know you yet and we would love to. don’t give up.
make yourself known.
---------- OK TO REBLOG !!

also i need to find more mutuals because there are very few active right now, and i love so many fandoms but
i don’t know how to be found
not many will follow back an oc (fair, it’s their call)
I don’t have the time to plot with all new followers so I’d need them to have just... read her pages and jump into writing with me
+ not having many active mutuals there aren’t many who reblog my promos (like 5% of people do) so it’s even harder to find me?
I’m going to have to figure out a solution because while I do love many shows I feel it’s becoming harder to find rpers from them (rp groups invading indie tags and every promo there is one of theirs don’t help with that)
#gonna be honest. i may start only reblogging promos for people who reblog mine and for new mutuals because I feel stupid always reblogging#for other people when they ignore all my non-thread posts so with them it should stay a strictly ic relationship

Hi! I know this is OOC but how would I go about making a role play account such as this one and joining the community? I don't know how to make a new account known ^^;
((Hello!!!
Oh wow, this is a really big question! I’m so glad you’re wanting to join us! We’d love to have you around!! This got a little long, so I put it under a read-more!))
To start off, I’d familiarize myself with how to roleplay. I think that’s the most important thing, just knowing general etiquette such as godmodding and what OP means (Overpowered, not One Piece here!).
If you’ve already done that, great! If not, don’t worry! People will be sure to help you out, and I do recommend practicing on websites like Gaiaonline- the forums have very short, quick roleplays to really get used to styles.
Then pick/make your character for here! Even canon characters have space for your own personal ideas and interpretation. Though keep in mind, not everyone will agree with you and that’s okay! There are people who have told me they don’t like how I write the characters I’ve chosen, and yes it hurts, but if you’re having fun then that’s what’s important.
When you make your rp account, I highly recommend getting a new account and using it solely for the character. Many here do use sideblogs, but I just find that to be a bit more taxing personally (especially since I rp in different fandoms).
Try to make your url something easy for people to remember and relevant to your character (of course!). One mistake I made with my One Piece rp blog was using dashes (’-’). They’re not bad, and obviously some people like them, however I find it makes the tagging system inefficient for certain writers unless the dashes are removed. What I mean is, my One Piece account is ‘chillin-at-partys-bar’ - and so when people tag my threads with them with that name, and I click on it to try and see all their posts to me on their blog, it glitches and comes up as ‘not found’ because for some reason tumblr doesn’t register the correct mark for ‘-’ and so it can’t connect them. So just something to keep in mind if, like me, you want to be able to go back in your rp-partner’s blogs to reread all your wonderful stories! As for the blog code and icons, I’m not going to lie, I find fancy stuff to be too annoying for me to be bothered with personally. Some love icons, and if you do, power to you. For OCs, just find a face claim (another character you think looks like yours) and cut the icons using a simple editor (100x100 is usual). I literally have no excuse to only have like 20 icons for my character. I just don’t care enough to put effort into icons, the’re just annoying and a hassle I don’t have time for. So I just use what I have and *oh well* the rest. It’s totally personal choice. Some people have beautiful icons and love them.
For your blog code, this is my favorite blog to search for codes-> http://roleplay-theme-recs.tumblr.com/
I mean, I enjoy coding as much as the next person. But I just can’t be arsed to do it myself and if other people enjoy coding and making blogs more than me, and then sharing their work, I am more than happy to make them feel happy by using what they’re offering. Just make sure you read their rules and thank them by reblogging and liking!
Once you’ve set up your blog with your rules, your character information (’muse’), your verses (optional! But useful!), your own info (’mun’), and some people like to have some tags at the ready (I usually just want an OOC tag and a crack tag bc I’m still lazy), or if you’re impatient just rules and character info are usually okay to just start, start following any and all blogs you’d be interested in. Be sure to read the rules before interacting though, some people have very specific guidelines and you don’t want to risk upsetting anyone, of course.
But as you start following, people may start following back. As you wait for this trickle, you can create a quick advert.
Again, some people like fancy.
I’m tooooooo lazy for that.
So I just throw something together. Or use photoshop/gimp/paint if I’m being really fancy. Try to include your character name, series, and links to the blog and your rules and anywhere else important on your blog. Sometimes the format changes. This is the game where everything is made up and the points don’t matter.
Post it, and then maybe write a starter post or two, or the good old ‘like this post for a starter!’ (if you offer to write starters, people will come. Rpers usually hate starters bc we’re all secretly lazy). Send in memes too, people love getting memes. Play along with the crack. People love the crack. Tag appropriately though (crack vs. serious) because some people just want to filter their intake. Too much crack is bad for the health! (Lies)
I hope that helps at least a little!! I don’t know if it’s anything you wanted or needed, but it’s kinda a basic format I usually follow whenever writing a new character. If you have any questions, or you get your stuff collected and get the promo/advert made, please shoot me a link! I’ll gladly reblog it :D Happy writing!!!
P.S. Here are some of the adverts I’ve used:

lol how do rp? i made an rp blog for an unrelated fandom from you but i've been way too scared to post on it or get involved
Hope this advice helps you! I’ll start with some things you should have in place before starting to RP, which might boost your confidence in actually getting started!
1. Don’t use a sideblog. It’s a pain in the ass for everyone, including you. Always make your rp blog its own separate blog. (It’s not hard to go and make yet another gmail account.)
2. Pick a username that doesn’t suck, by which i mean: make sure it’s easy to spell and not hard to remember. It’s easiest if it relates in some way to the character, and originality doesn’t matter too much. For example, my Hitch blog is @hitchisms. Avoid dashes in your username too, as tag tracking doesn’t work well with them. Here’s some other RP urls I’ve had for characters:
Hange: exhaustedresearcherMike: secondstrongestAnabel (Pokemon): @remembrancelessGelgar: notdrinkingonthejob (now just @gelgar lmfao)Dita Ness: poeticsoldier (one of my headcanons was that he loved poetry since originally Charlotte’s name was translated into Shallott and I thought how cute it would be if he liked “The Lady of Shallott”!Akane (Psycho Pass): @clearlyunclouded Lin Beifong: bitterloner
Basically, you don’t want anyone to be confused about whether or not you’re RPing a canon character or not, and you also want to make it easy for people to remember you even if you’re an original character. In the Pokemon fandom it got to be hard to keep track of all of the original RPers due to all of the sun/moon urls.
3. In your description be CLEAR about who you’re rping!
You should also put the tag you’re tracking in there if your url is a canon url. You can see I didn’t do that for my Gelgar blog, but sometimes it’s useful to have there. I usually list the tag I track in my rules, though.
And speaking of that, because my next point is related to this: FOR GOODNESS’ SAKE PLEASE USE A THEME THAT ISN’T HARD TO READ.
The point of RPing is to write, and the point of writing is to be read. If people can’t read your writing, what’s the point of any of this? How is RPing fun if your blog is a minefield to navigate? I grew to hate those fancy themes with random stars and shit as links because I just can’t see well enough to find them anymore–but most of the time, I know it’s not my vision that’s impaired lmao.
Aesthetic should NEVER overcast actual functional purpose. You’re there to write characters you love. You want people to be able to read your description and rule pages.
4. Make some PAGES.
This seems daunting, but it’s not that bad. Really, all you absolutely need is some kind of “about” page. Sometimes I throw other pages in there, too, though, to give people more information. And sometimes I’m just an asshole.
My muse page (which is an “about” about the character, since she would be considered my inspiration for writing and therefore a muse) is literally just this:
I suggest looking at other people’s profiles in your fandom to see if there is any kind of pattern. I personally do the same kind of profile for most of my muses:
I try to keep things short and sweet in the sense that there is a lot of information on the profile page, but it’s not, you know, anything I describe with a lot of text. At the bottom of this (you can read the full page at my Anabel blog link up there), I include a “brief history” or rough outline of a history.
You also kind of need a rules page. If you don’t have one, people may not want to follow you, but you have options: you can keep it simple or you can be elaborate!
Shorter is probably better, but I implore you to be honest with yourself and include things there that may be a problem. As you can see above, I had to include warnings for content that my Hitch blog could run into. It’s better to be safe than to accidentally hurt someone. My Gelgar blog always had a very short set of rules because I started RPing him for fun and didn’t feel that I needed to be selective about who I RP’d with.
I usually break up my rules pages into various categories just to break up the text. A lot of general rules apply across most RP communities but it doesn’t hurt to be clear about it.
Now, the rest is really up to you. As you can see from my above “pages” images, I like having a few different kinds of pages.
Verses aren’t always things I include; it really depends on the character. For Akane, I wanted the option to be able to RP at any point in her career that I wanted to, so I made two verses: one where she’s still a newbie, and one that takes place after the newbieness of season one came to a close. As you can see from the text below, I was considering adding a possible enforcer verse: probably an idea I cooked up with @daantooine.
Relationships pages aren’t strictly necessary. Anabel doesn’t have one because she has so few canonical interactions that I mostly included her information in her profile page. Someone from SnK, however, probably will have many (even if casual) connections in the military and it’s useful for other RPers to kind of see how your character may currently view theirs.
As it says at the top of this page, though, relationships may change; my Gelgar had a very different relationship with two very different interpretations of Lynne! His relationship with Auruo and Hange were both based 100% on RP interactions I had with other RPers; we established a rapport and I drew from that.
Lastly, I think a page I enjoy having that others may not? Threads.
This makes it easy for you to re-read your RPs if you want to. I’ll admit, it can be a pain to remember to add things to the list, but it is worth it if you get really attached to character interaction (as I did with this particular Lynne). Thanks @hairjel! Rest in pieces @momtaku.
5. Make sure everything is updated how you like it: your muse page, about pages, headcanons, rules. If you use icons, have them ready to go. (No bigger than 100x100 for heaven’s sake.) Decide on a posting format.
Tiny text? Bolded dialogue? Fancy lettering? It doesn’t have to be fancy. My Gelgar threads never were formatted much.
Here are my Hitch threads and one from my Anabel blog, too.
In recent years I started using small text & bolding the dialogue. It sounds silly, but it makes it easy for another RPer to respond to the dialogue portion. It’s not always the most important part, but during a conversation it’s awkward if something doesn’t get responded to. Some RPers in the Pokémon fandom quite liked it and also adopted it!
6. Cutting posts. This is important because threads get long and ugly as they get reblogged. There’s an x-kit extension called Editable Reblogs that lets you cut out previous replies to the RP, leaving you with the above format so that when you type in a tag for the thread/chrono, it shows them all in chronological order and you can read straight through with no repeated bits!
7. Tagging. Always tag your posts with the other RPers url. everything else is up to you, but from my tags pages (on Hitch in particular) you can get an idea of the kinds of tags I use. Just remember that consistency is key.
From this point forward it’s all about networking and throwing yourself into the mix. Find other RPers, creep on their blogs, find out people you might like to RP with, and when you feel your blog is ready, follow them. Typically when someone followed me, I’d go check out their blog. Some people require you to send in passwords to prove you’ve read the rules, so be aware of that. That seems to be a very fandom-dependent thing, though, so it’s not prevalent in all fandoms.
Once you’ve followed all your blogs, or at least a few, make a “promo.” Here’s a link to a bunch I reblogged on my Anabel! In the Pokémon fandom, promos tend to be short, and many of them just use one icon. Having a promo allows people to kind of “network” your blog–pass it around to encourage other people to follow you/interact with you.
After this, most people do a “starter call” which is essentially just a post like this:
Most people put an icon in there, but since I don’t typically use icons, I didn’t use one here.
Making a starter call does put the pressure on you to start a thread and fling your writing out there, but it’s less daunting if you have other examples of your writing floating around: for example, the about/muse page we talked about earlier.
If you want advice on how to start threads and how to write good starters for your partners, or any other RP advice/questions that aren’t clicking for you, just hit me up and I’ll try to help!

I really wish I was a role-player because I see your memes and startup requests and I really wish I could interact with you because I love your writing but I just don't have the patience for cultivating one single character and having one of these blogs seems like sO MUCH WORK but also you make it seem kinda worth it I dunno I'm rambling in your ask box now. Here's hoping you get lots of people writing with you.
So I have been roleplaying for well over 10 years now ( yikes ) and I can honestly say that this is one of the nicest things I have ever had said/sent to me. It really took me back for a second. I love writing. I mean. I love. Writing. I literally try to do it every day -- and to be told that I have inspired anyone, even just a little bit, into doing any kind of writing themselves is just ... it’s wonderful. I don’t think that there is a better thing to say to someone to creates. My writing is something that I try to improve on, every post, and being reminded that there are people excited to see what I come up with really helps on some of the slumps. Because, wow. RP comes with a lot of slumps. That being said -- you’re right about it being a lot of work. Making an RP blog requires another Tumblr account ( unless you simply make yours a sideblog, which has its pros and cons ) and then there’s this huge list of things that are generally necessary before you can even start writing. Theres your url, your theme ( themes are the bane of an RPers existence, but I guess “dash only” blogs are coming up in popularity? ) and then if you are going to fight with icons. You need a rules page. You need a header and a promo. If you have created an original character then there needs to be an extensive backstory or stats listed for people to even consider you. Female muses are always treated differently ( a shoutout to all the wonderful people who rock their roles despite this setback!! ) but once you find a place and get started it’s ... ? Addicting and wonderful. I have met some amazing people over the years -- I wouldn’t have my best friend right now if it weren’t for RP. I’m not saying that it’s all making friends and rainbows, because it’s not, but I can honestly say that the ups and downs are worth it, overall. For me, anyway. It’s time-consuming and stressful ( I literally have over 100 asks waiting to be answered and several drafts waiting to be replied to ) but I get to write with people who inspire me and help me create these stories and I love it wow look who is doing the rambling now. I do get a lot of people to write with and it’s fantastic and I love them all. Everyone writes so differently and can put different spins on the same character or instance. To me it’s never boring. If you decide to make a blog, hit me up, anon. If not -- you can always send in memes or writing prompts ( I will try to reblog more memes that aren’t just for people with blogs/muses ) and I am considering doing some writing and putting it up on AO3? I’m still working up the nerve, honestly. But uh. Wow. Thank you? Thank you so much for sending this. You’re a sweetheart. Feel free to come ramble at me anytime.

Hi There! I hope you don’t mind me messaging you but I am really in need of advice. This is my Pokemon RP blog and I want to make it mostly for Pokemon. I’m really trying to figure out what I can do for people and working on my blog a lot. I hope you don’t mind me messaging you but totally looking for advice. -Mun
Woah. I’m pleasantly surprised to see this, but I gotta warn you. I’ve been told I can be pretty rude with this kind of stuff, so uh, take it with a grain of salt, I guess?
This’ll be split up into a few parts; since you haven’t used tumblr as an RPing medium before, here’s some tips to mask all that and blend in a whole lot smoother, yea?
Terminology; aka. what does all this shit mean.
• mun; pretty much the roleplayer, the person behind the character, the person who’s writing all this stuff down. short for mundane. because the ‘mun is boring,’ haha.
• muse; your character, the person the blog’s all about.
• selective; kinda redundant imo, but it’s frequently seen enough on blogs. just means that folks don’t always follow back or don’t always interact.
• private/mutuals only; mutuals means you and the person in question ‘follow’ each other. it’s pretty much simple as that.
• munday; mun + day. usually a day when there’s pretty much stuff about the ‘mun’
• memes; simply askbox games used to help one another interact. not all people consider them ‘canon’ to a blog, so be careful!
• crack; generally anything non-canon to a blog. it’s when a particular trait of a character is emphasized to the point of ridiculousness.
• sexual sunday; right. uh. yeah. it’s a thing, but idk why nor do i care.
Blog Basics; aka. simple stuff most folks overlook.
• About Page; it looks like you’ve got a handle on this part from what i saw. although, i’d change that 150 cm meaning 3′0″ because i’m 150cm. that’s 4′11″ pls. don’t be afraid to get into a deep history and flesh it out more, people here love that stuff. on the flip side, if it’s 10+ page essay of a background, folks won’t read it either. the about page is what gives us what the heck we’re getting into, so take your time and embellish it a little, yeah? think of it as a synopsis to a story, something relatively short and sweet to get the reader’s attentions. • use headcanon posts to dig more into the details. it serves a double purpose this way, by promoting your character actively on the dash later without an actual promo. another method to entice rpers to your character.
• Info Pages; something that folks tend to for get is to ENABLE pages. this would allow mobile viewers to read the pages without having to search all over or change the blog to a desktop format to find stuff.
• Extra pages; A page with your character’s team is a must here! Or at least, common pokemon they’re around or expected to see around them.
Tumblr Basics; aka. stuff i noticed people do.
• post trimming; i’d recommend getting xkit to ‘trim posts.’ in one of the ‘updates,’ tumblr did, we can no longer cut reblogs. a way of ‘trimming’ them without xkit would be simply deleting the old replies and just pasting the last into the post and continuing off from there. if lazy to do that, simply deleting the last reply from a reblog entirely is preferred to having a bunch of reblogs.
• moving from asks to threads; if you want to continue a thread from an ask, it’s best to just make a new post and slap a link to the ask somewhere on that new post.
• following; tumblr rping has this system which people ‘follow’ who they want to interact with, usually.
Aesthetics; aka. how to make your blog look pretty.
• Snag a theme from theme resource sites. eg. theme hunter. honestly, i’d recommend a minimalist theme if you’re not too big on fancy graphics. they’d give just as much of an impact as one of those highly decorative themes and all you need to provide is maybe an icon or a sidebar image. best part is, depending on your face claim, this site is pretty good at providing icons. and, you know, it’ll make folks focus on you writing.
• Snag a face claim for your character. people are like crows; they like shiny stuff. plenty of people get a feel for a character from looking at their character’s face claim. guiltfreeicons, animucons, and dawns-icons are some nice place that’ll provide icons for you if you’d like.
Tumblr Tips; aka. stuff i’d tell my younger, pretumblr self.
• Don’t be afraid to communicate. Sure, folks can be intimidating, but nothing will happen if no one does anything. Besides, most of those folks that are ‘intimidating’ are probably like that because, guess what, they’re usually on the talking side. Take a bit of initiative, folks like that.
• Don’t approach someone for an RP without an idea in mind. That’ll turn down rpers instantly. It’s hard sometimes, sure, but guess it depends on how much you want something towards someone’s own demons of not wanting to do something or w/e. Look at their bio; find something there that you could use for an idea. more than a gym leader battle, how about finding them with their pokemon or teaching someone. they’ll definitely appreciate it.
• Not everyone will want to RP with you. It’s inevitable, but hey, there’s how many people and how many blogs out there? The pokemon community is much larger than it looks; there’s plenty of fish in the sea.
• OCs take time and effort. Don’t be disheartened if you’re not super popular. Because they’re not seen in the franchise, you gotta be a bit assertive in interactions and communicating with others. While it has some downsides in those sorts of terms, at least they’re not taken for granted like canons.
Not sure if I forgot anything; either way, I hope this helps!
#‹ ❝ OUT OF CHARACTER ❞ ›#tw: long post#becharm#( oh yeah. another handy tip. slap '/mobile' to the end of any blog url and you can see the page w/o any embellishments )

hi!! I'm a new Star Trek blog (chekov) and I'd love to find new people but I'm just So Shy
Hello! I completely get being too shy to find people to interact with, I was the same way when I first started. Eventually you do sort of need to put yourself out there... but that’s very difficult sometimes when you’re not sure what reception you’ll get. But most people in this fandom are quite welcoming, I’ve found, and I’m sure you’ll have lots of amazing partners before you know it!
Tell you what, why don’t you message me off anon and I’ll whip you up a promo? That might help get you out there a bit. (Only if you’re comfortable, of course, please don’t feel any pressure.)
In the meantime, followers and Trek RPers -- do this shy anon a favor for me and like/reblog this post if you’d be interested in interacting with a new Chekov blog. That way, anon knows who they should talk with first!

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening/ to all of you dear members of the rpc!! My name’s BT and I’m excited to announce that “THE30PLUSFCNETWORK” is now OPEN and ready for boarding!!
Are you the kind of rper that loves to use older fcs of 30 years and beyond, like more than half the time while rping? At least like 60% of the time? And are you also the kind of rper that loves to rp out much older muses half the time or find a place for your bunch of much older muses? Btw, by much older muses, I mean, muses within the age range of 30 -75 , or even more?XD Well, if you are, then this roleplayers network is one of the perfect rpc networks for you to join!!
Here, you’ll get to meet, plot, rp, chat and make friends with many of your fellow rpers who share this particular same interest/passion of yours! This is a perfect place rpers like you, me and many undiscovered others, to get to know each other, connect and grow as a bigger community while happily knowing that we have quite a number of active rpers in this community to contact quickly at anytime, if we want to plot/rp out something using both our much older fcs and muses! Through my years of rping, I’ve unfortunately only managed to meet a handful(!) of people who like rping out much older muses together with older fcs to go with it. Thus, the idea of creating this particular network bloomed.
Requirements:
Almost none! The only thing we ask is that, you are willing and more than happy to rp out older muses of 30 and above as well as be very willing to rp with any older 30+ fc, both of them being regardless of age/race/gender/ethnicity!
Rules:
There’s only 1 rule which is be open, nice and compassionate! No form of hate will be tolerated on this network as we intent to try our best to foster a warm, safe and tight-knit community of like-minded rpers who share the aim of what this network was created for! There should be no judgement or prejudice, as I really want this to be a fun, creative, and supportive place for all involved!
How to join?
Just fill out the members form which is located on one of the links on the main & send it in! Voila xoxo
Extra benefits of joining:
There will be a primary tag called #the30plusfcnetwork where all of us can use to post plot ideas / plotting calls / posts looking for a certain fc/age/muse to rp out a plot you have in mind/ mumu calls/ etc
With the hopeful aim of us being buddies in here, you can also use the same tag above to place any wanted ads if say you’re in an rpg at a certain time, and you happen to be desperately needing someone to help take up your highly wanted connection if possible, you can def try asking us here to see if any of us might have the muse for it ;)
I also intend to try to help us grow closer and have more fun by hopefully having/sending out writing prompts every 2/3 weeks to further help increase muse creativity and interactions as well as having meme/ask Munday(on every alternate, Monday obvs XD) and muses memes day/honesty hours every Friday. (I will be creating a couple of extra tags for these stuff soon!)
Each and every one of you will get a chance to choose which fc will the main blog’s sidebar icon for the week! We’ll be changing the main’s fc icon every week just so every one of us can get a chance to possibly promote any one of our older, fav underused fcs!
After being added in:
You’ll be given a welcome post to notify you and the other members of your inclusion to our hopefully growing little family and then you can immediately start posting in the tags!
If possible, do try to put a link of this network’s main blog on any of your blogs to help spread the word to any possibly interested rpers out there!
Please do follow the main blog.
Track the #the30plusfcnetwork tag.
Following others in the blogroll is completely optional! I just added in a blogroll to help anyone of us who might be interested to check out who posted lately on their blogs or something ;)
~ Always feel free to either message me if you have any doubts/problems/ questions either through this network main blog or on my linked blog located in the members page/blogroll. <3 I also do very much hope for us to be friends by the end of the day, so that we can all also feel comfortable to go to any one of us if we need to talk about anything and everything ;)
~ The blog link you provide in the form can be from any kind of blog : oc rp blog/ aesthetic/rph/rp inspo/indie/rpt/fandom/multi-fandom/multi-verse au fandom oc/personal blog, it doesn’t matter as long as long as all of us here can easily contact you via it , to rp/plot/chat!^^
Sorry for this rather lengthy post guys!! I’m just way too hyped up for this and I’m really hoping hard that this idea of the network will work!
Please help me spread the word/promote to help gather/find rpers who might be interested in joining this network by reblogging this intro/promo post, darlings? (っ◕‿◕)っ ♥ thank you very, very much!!xxx
#rpt#rpc#rph#1x1 rp#indie rp#first posting nvr appeared in the tags for goodness knows why so imma try again?XD

yikes do u have any advice for someone who's new to tumblr rping?? i'm asking u bc u seem super nice & i really love ur blog /w\
O U T O F S U N L I G H T
Hello There! Thank you so much for you kind words! And may I be one of the first to welcome you to the Roleplay Community on Tumblr, as well as ( more specifically?) to the Comicbook Fandom! I’ve been exactly where you are now, my friend, as a veteran of RP from other sites and venues, newly branching into this hot little mecca of writing known as Tumblr!
I think you’re really going to like it here. :)
Tumblr is an expansive universe where the possibilities are limitless, both within and beyond the fandom your character might originally hail from. It is the birthplace of some truly wonderful things, like SuperWhoLock, Batfamily Shenanigans, and Redemption from Marvel’s Civil War 2 trash. On here, all those usual rules that controlled the way you wrote your character in an RP Community or chat room no longer exist, granting you freedom to interpret them any way you wish (or multiple ways in multiple settings!). Many fandom, like the DC Comics Fandom, are populated by passionate and friendly writers who want to interact with others that feel just as strongly about the universe as they do!
But, and I’m sure you’ve heard this, RPing on Tumblr is not for the faint of heart. All those things that make this place a source of creativity and inspiration also allow for some serious issues. The site itself can be a challenge, not really designed for intuitive, flowing RP threads. The atmosphere of a fandom, usually so positive, is also constantly changing in nature, and populated heavily by free variables (i.e. people), so that there are no comfort zones for anyone involved.
On one hand, this will make you a better writer, a more conscientious interpreter of character motives, and a much stronger RPer overall. On the other hand…. well, even the best fandoms have their fair share of abuse, and no one is immune to having their feelings hurt.
Knowing all this, me and my fellow roleplayers still come online to write our hearts out everyday, because we love to write and Tumblr is hands-down one of the most prolific places for Roleplay on the internet. And I’ll tell you this, lovely anon, hard as it is, tumblr RP is also a breeding ground for wonderful and meaningful friendships that will last far longer than even the strongest OTP. That’s why I’m so pleased to heard that you are willing to give Tumblr RP a try, even if you don’t feel totally certain about how to start.
As for me, I look forward to seeing you in the this fandom community (or perhaps another!) and possibly interacting with you in the future. Thank you so much for trusting me enough with your question. I’m certainly not an expert on being a successful roleplayer (some days I make a potato look like a better talent than me!), but I hope I can offer a few small pointers that might help you get started on your way to RP glory.
First of all, regardless of whatever fandom has caught your fancy, I suggest you research the atmosphere of the RP community here on Tumblr. Use the search feature to scope out RP tags for the fandom, spot promos for characters, and stalk any RP communities currently seeking applications on the site. All this information will give you a feel for the type of RP experience you’ll have while in that fandom., and may influence your decision to take up a certain character.
If you have a personal tumblr blog, but you want to RP a character in a fandom, then I highly recommend you make another (completely separate) tumblr blog. Sideblogs are nice, but they don’t work well when you’re following others and want to interact via asks, replies etc. Things can get very confusing, very fast, especially in the activity feed!
Many people swear by their ‘About’ pages, and that’s a good thing. Once you’ve created your character blog and start reaching out to others, most RPers on tumblr will bee-line for your ‘About’ or ‘Rules’ page as soon as they see you’ve followed them. This is a courtesy so they can know how to best approach your character and what the important details should be known when RPing with you. So, to hedge your bets in a good way, always make an About Page and include all vital details about your character on it!
Also, keep in mind, there is no wrong way to write an About Page. You can check other RPers’ blogs for examples, but just write it however most makes sense to you. As long as it gives the reader an understanding of your vision with your character, that’s what matters.
Sometimes when you’re starting out, especially if you’re playing an OC or a lesser known Canon character, you’re going to have to be the brave one that reaches out to others and asks for threads. Just posting opens and following other blogs might not get you the responses you hope for, and I don’t want that to discourage you. Don’t be afraid to (respectfully) go after the RPer you’re interested in writing with, I guarantee they’re all super nice people and they will respond favorably to your interest in them!
Depending on the type of person you are, I would recommend possibly getting an instant messenger account for your RP blogs. I know that Tumblr messenger exists, but many RPers prefer to limit access to who can message them via that interface. The most popular instant messenger choices on tumblr are Skype, Kik, and Discord. This is certainly Not a requirement, and please don’t feel pressured to get an account if you are not comfortable with talking to strangers via instant messenger. But, if you love to spazz out over your fandom, and you love to share plot ideas and headcanons, then you will find a great many fast friends in the RP fandoms on tumblr. So many writers (me included!) love to share their inspiration in this quick way, and translate it to writing on the site!
Learn the fine art of tagging posts. Tags are just about the only thing we Tumblr RPers have as a search filter on this website, and some of us follow certain tags religiously. And I don’t just mean our tumblr url, I mean anything we feel is relevant to our character. For example, I track the tags: #sunxking, #apollo, #midnighterandapollo, #midnighter, #TheAuthority, etc. I also generously tag anything I post so that I can easily find it again on my blog, or provide navigation links to it for others to find. (such as #openstarter for all my Apollo RP opens). Additionally, I feel it’s important to be careful in tagging for triggering posts. I always tag with the keyword of the triggering content, and append the triggering keyword with either ‘ts’ (for tumblr savior) or ‘tw’ for “trigger warning.” Keep in mind that if you’re tagging an original post (not a reblog) that only the first five tags are picked up by the tumblr search engine.
Stay open minded. And I don’t just mean in regards to crossovers and alternate universes. There will be RPers that you will meet that may interpret a well-known character in a way that seems entirely contradictory to how you envision them. And you may like it… or you may not. But sometimes thinking outside of the box produces great rewards, and you never know what innovative idea might spring out of a crack conversation. Regardless, always follow the rule of thumb: Respect others and lead with kindness.
Hopefully these initial pointers will help you hit the ground running with an RP blog on tumblr! There are other things people focus on, like the right theme, or text formatting… but that stuff doesn’t really matter to me. Personally, as long as your writing content reflects your dedication to your character, I am interested in reading it!
Again, Welcome to this amazing place, and I wish you all the success and fun with your character.
Best of Luck!
– Red

Hi! I love you and your characters on all your blogs (I particularly love how you’ve interpreted Graves) and I was wondering if you could give any advice on how to start an rp blog?
Oh gosh, you are too kind. I’ll be sure not to tell Newt and Aryan that xD
As far as advice, I have a few things I’ve learned over the years...
1. If you can, make a completely separate blog - sideblogs are a pain! Especially if your main is a personal blog, a lot of rpers don’t tend to respond to personal blogs (I myself have been guilty of this on occasion if I don’t know the personal has an rp blog).
Having your rp blog as a main blog is so helpful for things like following other people, liking starter calls, keeping track of activity, etc.
2. Always - always, always, always - have an about and rules page. Most people will not rp with a character unless you have one.
About: Even for canon characters, this is important. Some people don’t follow the backstory of characters as much as others, and sometimes you might interpret your muse slightly differently to canon. About pages can also include verses, which can be great fun to have to explore different stages of a muse’s life, or different worlds you want to rp in.
For OCs, an about page is particularly important. Rpers want to know who the character is, and whether or not they will be able to rp with the character - for example, if you wanted to do an rp with Graves and a criminal OC, chances are you would have to do something with Graves enforcing the law, or specifically choosing not to for an important reason. They’re not likely to be buddies. But if you plot that they are before I can see your about page, then that puts Graves and myself in a difficult situation.
Rules: Absolutely essential. If you don’t have rules, people don’t know what your limits are, who you are as an rper, and if you have triggers. Very important to have them, and again, people are unlikely to rp with you if you don’t have them.
Also, make sure you read the rules of everyone you rp/want to rp with. People know when you haven’t, and they will drop threads if you push them.
3. Know your character, and feel free to explore them! If they’re canon, it’s okay to move away from canon if there’s a particular headcanon or facet of their personality that you want to develop. If they’re an OC, really ponder some serious character development questions. People reblog headcanon memes and what not all the time, and there’s no reason you can’t use them to help you build on your muse. Make sure to explore all of your character, from their strengths to their weaknesses, their perfections and their flaws. The more you know your character, the more indepth and interesting your interactions with others will be.
4. Format if you want to, but don’t feel you have to. Get someone to make a fancy theme if you want to, but don’t feel you have to. Have a promo if you want to, but don’t feel you have to. All these things can be fun and useful, but they are by no means necessary.
If you’re a sideblog, having a promo can be great to get your name out some more, but if you have people to rp with, you don’t need it. I like to format my posts because I think it looks nice and helps to break up long winded rps, but not everyone does, and you don’t have to. I have searched and searched for fancy themes, and decided actually, the simpler ones sometimes look the best for what I want.
Everything is subjective, and if people won’t rp with you because you won’t do something that’s unnecessary, you don’t need them anyway.
5. Have fun! If life is getting you down, if tumblr is getting you down, it’s okay to take a break. It’s equally okay not to do your drafts because you just want to do something else. You are not obligated to be here, no matter who pushes you or how popular you are.
You come first, not your muse, and not anyone else on this site. Always be friendly, but never be afraid to say no to a thread/ship if you don’t like it, and don’t feel the need to apologise to people just because you didn’t do your drafts today. Everyone has a life to live and you do not have to spend it on this website if you don’t want to.
Rping is supposed to be fun and relaxing and interesting! If it is not any of those things, change things up, spend time away from tumblr, read a book - do something that you enjoy that will help you decide whether to rp or to move on.
