sorry guys but I'm obsessed with polls right now and this is fascinating to me! I feel like not nearly enough people talk about people who are late bloomers - ik it's not super common but something to think about

Not all women menstruate, but all who menstruate are women. It's science, it's facts and your opinion doesn't matter.

for the purposes of this poll, i’m not counting things like forms of birth control or other situations that stop menstruation entirely.

I hate how period cramps can feel like getting stabbed in the stomach, but you don’t even get a cool knife or sword sticking out of you that you can keep. Life is so unfair.

can we please please please normalize talking about periods 🙏🙏🙏🙏 because so genuinely. what the fuck. it is literally something that like half of the population goes through/has at some point gone through. ALSO CAN WE PLEASE STOP USING FUCKING GENDERED LANGUAGE WHEN TALKING ABOUT PERIODS OH MY GOD!!!!! (I AM LOOKING AT YOU ALWAYS!!!!! GFY!!!!) but yeah. cuz like what. it is 2024 you would think that people understand how to not be childish about these things. like you are grown wdym you can’t talk about periods. literally just a body. doing body things. also like. normalize talking about horrible periods & related like body disorders or whatever!!!! please please let’s talk openly about endometriosis & pcos etc etc. let’s talk about afab people who don’t get periods!!! let’s talk about infertility!!! let’s talk about what the ‘normal’ amount of pain is!!!!! so many people (with uteruses!!!!!) are so so so soooo uneducated because the school systems are fucking useless!! it is not normal to have debilitating periods!!!! it is not normal to bleed through a pad/tampon in an hour!!! these are things you should see a doctor about!!!!! if you have literally anything mildly concerning go to your doctor!!!!!! also doctors. can we please actually listen to people with periods. can we please do that. can you please educate yourselves better. please. i beg.

One criticism I have for people who say some variation “I wish men have periods so things could be easier” is that this completely ignores the fact that the culture around pain and violence is very different for men. Sure I think it would mean men would be more understanding on average, but I don’t necessarily think that men getting periods would necessarily translate to more amenities for people who menstruate.
Like, it’s not even consistent with our common notion of men from the patriarchal lens much less how men might actually behave. Men are willing to endure pain to prove that they are men, and in some ways this might actually make misogyny worse for people who choose to use menstrual hygiene products because if you use these things it will show/prove your weakness/non-manhood. Men are willing to go above and beyond when it comes to proving their manhood and I think that’s a lot of the reason republicans were able to make the mask mandate so politically charged.
I think the greatest criticism here is that if men menstruated then there shouldn’t be a gendered and you’d be right, but pain is gendered and what pain you feel and how you feel it is gendered. And sacrificing your body for the greater good (usually the economy/labor). The whole point of masculinity is to show that you are strong and that you can Endure and that means that even when you apply menstruation to men you might not get the desired return.

By providing the proper care for women and those who menstruate, whether it traditional or modern, empower them with the confidence and support that they need!
