So…about…RWBY Volume 8 Chapter 13…
I am…speechless.
[SPOILERS AHEAD]
Okay. Surely it’s same to expect that the calvary will show up next episode, right? Surely SSSN and CFVY will notice all the commotion coming from the desert (especially if someone like Oscar unleashes another giant magical nuke into the sky to obliterate the oncoming Grimm and protect the people) and will come to help Oscar, Ren and Emerald help the refugees from Atlas and Mantle, right? SURELY.
Overall, this episode’s ending left me stunned. Particularly what happened to Yang. Yang was the first to fall. And I don’t know about you guys but I appreciated that Yang falling was done as a result of her sacrificing herself to protect Ruby.
Naturally I don’t think Yang is dead. Obviously NOT. On the contrary, I think the theory that I shared about those who fall while in the central point falling into another world beyond Remnant was actually true.
Yang isn’t dead. Just NOT ON REMNANT.
This brings me to another theory I wish to share. If there is one prediction that I have for the final episode of V8, it’s this.
As we saw in this episode, Yang Xiao Long was the first hero to fall prey to falling inside of the void and off of Remnant into the “Other World”.
Yang represents the Y in Team RWBY, correct?
So how much do you want to bet that that’s the order in which our main girls will fall. It’s RWBY but backwards.
First it was Yang, then it will probably be Blake next after her since her letter is before Yang’s. Then it will be Weiss who just barely holding on now with the use of her semblance and finally, Ruby will probably be left as the last man standing and will most definitely be the last to fall.
RWBY will fall in the order of last to first and I’d like to think that one of the last scenes for V8 will be someone coming through the portal to deliver the depressing news that Team RWBY didn’t make it and are pronounced “dead”. Team RWBY is DEAD.
Now that I think about it---Jaune and Nora are still on the other side helping with the evacuation. So if push comes to shove, Nora and Jaune could assist RWB_P against Cinder and Neo. Not unless they get forcibly yeeted to Vacuo with no way of going back, as Oscar said.
All I know is that in the end, someone will have to survive long enough to tell the others that RWBY didn’t died. Based on how things are shaping up, it wouldn’t surprise me if either Jaune or Nora or perhaps even Penny will be the ones to deliver the painful news to the group that RWBY all “died”.
What would actually be pretty neat is if Oscar unlocks his semblance next episode and his semblance either plays a part in helping Emerald and Ren protect the refugees of Atlas and Mantle or…may even set up Oscar’s role for next season because imagine if…Oscar will play a part in helping RWBY return home from the Other World?
OR…since Ambroise made it so that no mere person can simply get through the other side into the Other World unless through magical means like the Relic of Creation, imagine if…Oscar pulls a Monica Rambou from Marvel’s WandaVision and somehow breeches the power of the Staff of Creation and is able to force himself through back to the central point without the use of the Relic or Vault or something like that?
Even worst…imagine if…Oscar somehow breeches the staff’s magic to arrive back at the central point just in time to watch Ruby Rose fall and disappear into the void and that’s the very last time he sees her before she “dies”?
While I doubt this would happen…it is interesting to wonder. Either way, these are my thoughts on this episode.

I do not know why people are so in love with the idea of Cinder in a vacuum, it is more likely that he will die there during his confrontation with Emerald so that she becomes the Fall Maiden and it is not that he cares Emerald is about his last Thoughts, possibly she will feel how she felt with Rhodes and if she is defeated, deceived by an illusion before she dies, she will think that Emerald's work and then she will fall into a void but this time we will see the maiden powers leave her body.
Tumblr media
(I'm assuming these two go together, so going to treat them as one ask.)
I don't know. Let me start off by saying thus. The thing with Cinder, and the thing I hope people keep in mind, is that she isn't an insignificant part of the series. She's one of the few characters the writers had laid out before they penned the very first ep. She is the ONLY major antagonist to date to feature prominently in all 8 volumes. And she is, far and away, the one with the most personal connections to Team RWBY. You don't do that with an unimportant character, or one that could easily be killed or replaced. You do that with a character whose arc and role is vital to the story you want to tell.
I can't guarantee that Cinder's story won't end in her death eventually (personally I doubt that it will). But to have her go out, at around the mid-point of the entire series, just as we were getting to know her background and see her vulnerabilities, just. . doesn't add up to me. Why go to all that trouble if the pay-off's going to be gruesomely killing her 8 eps later, you know?
Even though I tried to avoid going to in depth, my full answer got a little long, so putting my take on your worries regarding Emerald and Neo’s impacts on Cinder's story below.
As for Em. One thing I think the volume has done well is show how she and Cinder genuinely care for each other. (Em throwing herself in front of Penny, Cinder lashing out and looking hurt when Merc says she doesn't care about Em, etc.) It's just that neither of them has had the support to learn how to express care in a healthy way.
Em may have defected, but she still cares about Cinder. You don’t go from being willing to die for someone, tears in your eyes, to coldly murdering them in the course of a few hours. I can see her maybe using an illusion to get Cinder to stop. But these two have such a history I don’t think they’d be in a place to fight, much less try and kill, each other.
Similarly to my first point, Cinder having the powers isn't inconsequential. So far the writers have used her and the other maidens to explore the themes of their respective seasons in super interesting ways. A huge part of Cinder’s arc so far, and what has made her a compelling maiden of choice, is this question of agency vs. destiny. Em may be in a better place than Cinder, but from what we've seen, her arc doesn't seem to be nearly as tied to choice as Cinder's is. Having her get the powers before Cinder's arc has time to resolve would not only be jarring, it wouldn’t have the same “oomph!”.
Finally, in regards to Neo, why not both? I don't see any reason why Neo being redeemed means Cinder can't. Redemption isn't a zero sum game. There's not a set limit to how many you can do. (Just look at Steven Universe, lol) Cinder needs to learn power does not mean safety and Neo needs to learn revenge is not sustainable and she needs to live for herself. I don't see any reason why one's personal journey would terminate the others’, you know?
Heck. If Neo needs to learn first hand that revenge is not nearly as sweet as she thinks, yeeting Cinder (and Ruby) off a cliff might very well be an important part of her redemption. Get that out of her system before she moves on, you know? Just as Cinder forced to depend upon her arch-nemesis in a mystery void with no one to project her weakness onto could be huge for hers.
We've already had Adam and Ironwood as examples of someone who refuses to change, Tyrian, who revels in villainy and Salem, who's got EONS of baggage. Personally that strikes me as plenty "you can't change everyone" for a series. Why not have the rest be willing to change and, if not be fully "redeemed", at least become healthier people by the end of the series?
Anyways. I hope that helped a bit! I can definitely see where your worry comes from (esp. with how rabidly people rag on Cinder). But I think she's still got a lot more in store for us and I'm excited to see where it goes!

Mine can get pretty bad, but it’s not debilitating. Occasionally I’ll have a few seconds where it hurts so bad I can’t talk, but that goes away after only a few seconds. If it keeps you up at night, get help
sort of real talk how painful is normal with period cramps... asking for a friend
