Christina Hendricks
The star of Good Girls discusses Mad Men, sexual harassment and squaring her glamorous reputation with her ‘weird, goofy’ personality
Christina Hendricks appears on our video call with the most dramatic backdrop. Art deco gold peacocks bedeck a black wall, making her look, as she has so often in her career, a bit too good to be human. Perfectly poised, perfectly framed, perfectly lit, she is more like a dreamy vision of what humans look like. “I, erm, like your wall,” I say, pointlessly. She flashes a smile, as if to say: “Obviously.”
We are here primarily to discuss the comedy-drama series Good Girls, the fourth season of which will resume in the US this month after a midseason break. The elevator pitch would be Breaking Bad for girls: three suburban women, each hovering on the edge of bankruptcy, unite to embark on a life of cack-handed crime, only to discover they are good at it. The ensemble – Hendricks, Mae Whitman, who plays her sister, and Retta, their friend – works strikingly well, their pacey comic rapport instilling a sense of perpetual motion. You just can’t imagine Good Girls ending. Every time a plot line seems to be reaching its climax, something worse – and funnier – happens.
“It’s funny you say that, because originally, when I read the pilot script, I thought: ‘I love this, but I can’t imagine this being more than one episode,’” says Hendricks. “It felt like it finished itself.” She is unsentimental about it. Hendricks wasn’t looking for a new show – “I was happy doing films, taking my time” – but went into it with her eyes open. It is a network drama, for NBC – it is shown on Netflix in the UK – so producers are always aware that “it’s going into every house in the US on a Thursday or a Sunday and a family is watching it. They’re much more careful about numbers and advertisers and people being offended or not getting it. A cable show is much more: ‘We trust this creator – they’re a visionary.’”
It has a conventional tone – however dark the material, it is handled very lightly. Yet you can’t help but notice some hard-boiled social commentary from the off – if it weren’t for the bracingly callous US health system, the generation of wage-stagnation casualties and the patriarchy, none of the characters would have gone anywhere near a supermarket heist. More than Breaking Bad, it reminds me of Roseanne and the golden age of US mainstream comedy, when you could be poor on TV without that being a breach of good taste.
The 48-year-old has been a household name for almost 15 years, thanks to Mad Men. She was born in Tennessee, where her mother was a psychologist and her father worked for the Forest Service, and educated in Oregon and then Idaho. She didn’t have time for formal acting training; by the time she was 18, her modelling career had taken off. Later, when she had a manager, she took acting lessons: “I did that for almost a year and a half and put auditions on ice. Then I was watching a film – I don’t even remember what film it was or who was in it – and I thought: ‘I’m ready. I can do this.’” She has the most insistent work ethic; as she describes her life’s trajectory, she notes diligently the jobs she had while she was at high school, at a hair salon and a menswear shop.
In 2007, she appeared as Joan Holloway in Mad Men. She played the role for the next eight years, her character growing around the depth she brought to it, until by season seven she was almost the central part. In the early 2010s, Hendricks was talked about constantly, although she says the original focal points of obsession were the male characters: “Men started dressing like Don Draper and Roger Sterling. Suits came back in, skinny ties came back in. It took three to four seasons and then all of a sudden people wanted us [the female stars] on magazines. We were like: ‘This is strange – we’ve been doing this for a while.’”
Hendricks, along with January Jones, who played Betty Draper, came to represent so much. There was a great deal of rumination on their physicality, Jones as elegant as an afghan hound, Hendricks like the pin-up painted on the side of a bomber. What did it mean, people asked, that in the middle of the 20th century there were multiple ideals of the female form, whereas in the 21st century there was only one? How did that complicate the perception of gender equality as a steady march towards the light? Thousands of column inches went on that question – but, from the actor’s perspective, it was an annoying distraction. “There certainly was a time when we were very critically acclaimed, and getting a lot of attention for our very good work and our very hard work, and everyone just wanted to ask me about my bra again. There are only two sentences to say about a bra,” she says.
The signal impression the show left was of an ensemble at the peak of its creativity: actors, writers and the creator, Matthew Weiner, working in almost telepathic unison. It won the Emmy for outstanding drama series four times in a row, but the more notable year was 2012, when it was nominated for 17 Emmys (and didn’t win any of them). The take-home was: everyone involved with this is absolutely brilliant.
That harmonious picture was blurred two years after the show ended, when one of the former writers, Kater Gordon, accused Weiner of sexual harassment. Marti Noxon, a consulting producer on Mad Men, concurred that Weiner had created a toxic environment and said that he was an “‘emotional terrorist’ who will badger, seduce and even tantrum in an attempt to get his needs met”.
Hendricks takes this head on, in a considered, straightforward manner. “My relationship with Matt was in no way toxic,” she says. “I don’t discount anyone’s experience if I wasn’t there to see it, but that wasn’t my experience. Was he a perfectionist, was he tough, did he expect a lot? Yes. And he would say that in a second. We were hard on each other.”
It is impossible, from this distance, to adjudicate on Weiner’s character, but Hendricks’s response reveals something of hers. The easiest response in this situation, and the one 90% of actors give, is: “No comment.” Hendricks is always collected, never evasive, doesn’t gabble. She reminds me powerfully of Joan Holloway – and I am sorry to say it, because she insists throughout: “I’m an actress. I am completely not Joan. Not in any way. I wish I was more like Joan.”
I wonder if, while we were all fixating on Joan’s bras and whether or not, in the asinine words of Lynne Featherstone, the UK’s equalities minister in 2010, she represented a “curvy role model”, the audience was responding to Joan’s deeper life lesson – that self-possession is 9/10ths of the law.
What Hendricks emphatically doesn’t do is minimise the existence of sexism and sexual harassment in the industry: “Boy, do you think anyone in the entertainment industry comes out unscathed and not objectified? I don’t know one musician or one model or one actor who has escaped that. I have had moments – not on Mad Men; on other things – where people have tried to take advantage of me, use my body in a way I wasn’t comfortable with, persuade me or coerce me or professionally shame me: ‘If you took your work seriously, you would do this …’
“Maybe it was my modelling background, but I knew to immediately get on the phone and go: ‘Uh oh, trouble,’” she says. “That’s where it’s very much a job. We need to talk to the producers and handle this professionally.”
Yet, at the same time, she is defensive of her industry. “It gets a lot of attention because people know who we are. I’m sure there’s a casting couch at the bank down the street, I’m sure the same thing happens in management consultancy, but people don’t know who the management consultants are.”
Modelling always sounds like a harsh environment – predatory photographers vying with stringent agents to give everyone a complex about their thighs and stop them eating carbs. But that is not how Hendricks describes it at all. Her career sounds like one out of an 80s Judy annual: innocent and hearty, good for pin money and travel opportunities. “I think I was lucky – I didn’t start when I was 14. When I was about 18 or 19, I went to Japan for the first time, I went to Italy. We’d be lots of girls, sharing a house, and I sort of became the den mother. I’d make everyone egg salad sandwiches and Greek salads, going into this mother hen role.”
That is what they say about being taken hostage: if you want to survive, choose someone to look after. “Oh,” she says, coolly. “I wouldn’t consider being a model as being a hostage.”
She was only ever medium-successful, she insists – an “unusual and quirky” hire, rather than the slam-dunk face of everything. About as far as it went was that she never had to get another job to supplement her income. Probably the most famous image of that era in which she was involved was the poster for American Beauty. Two models were in the frame, so they took a photo of the stomach and the hands of each. In the end, they used Hendricks’s hand on the other model’s stomach. It sounds like a clunky metaphor, but it is true.
During this period, she moved to London with a friend, for the hell of it, living in a flat on Gloucester Road, “surviving on cider and hummus”. It is a glimpse of the oddball she says she was growing up, the outsider as whom she is rarely cast. This has been the story of her CV. “Early on in my career, I would get auditions and I would call my manager and say: ‘I would never cast me in this – she’s a cheerleader, she’s a bimbo. Can I audition for the other one, the weird doctor?’ And they’d be like: ‘No, they saw your picture.’ And I started realising that people didn’t see the weird, goofy me that I saw.”
She made the jump from modelling to acting via adverts, with what looks like fairytale ease. In fact, it was “a lot of pounding the pavement and showing up for auditions and getting rejected – and learning, as a young woman, to not take that personally”. By the late 90s, she was the face of ultimate female confidence, the woman who drinks Johnnie Walker and doesn’t need a chauffeur (these are two ads, not one for drink-driving). “I always thought of modelling as freeze-frame acting. It felt like a scene, and I still consider it that way. There are so many technical things that I think people don’t notice. They see you playing dress-up.”
From the commercials, she learned “how to hit a mark, how to memorise a line”, but acting wasn’t novel. She had been doing community theatre since the age of 10, and grew up expecting an alternative life, supplementing an art-house existence any which way. She never amplifies her creative urges. She is much happier talking about professionalism and graft, but that is strategic more than anything else. “I am incredibly emotional and I take things very personally. But I’ve learned to be a little bit of a politician and a little bit of a producer along the way. As a female actor, the easy go-to is: ‘She was emotional, she was hysterical.’ It can be a million other people’s fault, but it’s easy to point your finger at an emotional artist. So, I realised: if I’m going to be taken seriously, I need to have professional perspective and I can cry about it to my friends later.”
Yet she cares deeply about creativity, as is clear when she talks about Mad Men. “It may eclipse anything I ever did. And, if it does, it was a good one and I’m proud of it,” she says. “I got to bring who I was as a woman. I think I learned some of how to be a woman from Joan. No one would give a shit about me if it wasn’t for that show. I’d still be doing good work, but no one would have found me. If that’s the best thing I ever do, it was pretty good.”

My Quick Take:
This is certainly great news today! I'm looking forward to seeing all the ways Mario Lopez will contribute to Great American Media!
Based on the press release above, it sounds like he will be seen in various ways, not only on Great American Family, but also on Great American Faith & Living, Great American Pure Flix, Great American Adventures, and the digital channel, Great American Faith & Home! Wow, it sounds like he'll be really busy!
Like many of you, my first remembrance of Mario Lopez was on the Saturday morning show, “Saved By The Bell.” That show holds a special, nostalgic place in my heart. It was such a wholesome show for kids and families at that time, even spinning off with the original cast to one season of “Saved By The Bell: The College Years” and TV movies.
Of all of Mario's acting jobs through the years, next to “Saved By The Bell,” my favorite is his Lifetime Christmas movie, “Steppin' Into the Holiday.” I loved seeing more of Mario Lopez's dancing side in that movie with Jana Kramer, and I hope that's something we'll see more of as he's on Great American Family!
For now, that's a wrap!

answer this LATER cause ur having fun but: what kind of luxuries the malfoy manor have ? like specifically extravagant things they own or even rooms designed for one activity? and what kind of rich muggle things are in them (like jacuzzis or like tvs idk)? the PEOPLE wanna know
MALFOY MANOR. first, i wanna say thank you for giving me a reason to ramble on about the malfoy manor. i’m gonna take this time to just talk about everything i possibly could. okay so to talk about the history, i need to introduce you to the first malfoy, the founder of the malfoy manor.
ARMAND MALFOY. armand was a french born wizard who arrived in great britain with the norman invasion ( he gained the friendship of william the conqueror ). he was also the first malfoy in britain. sometime after william I was made king of england in 1066, armand provided various services to the king. while the exact details of the services are unknown, they were known to be shady and magical in nature. ( probably: threatening with hexes, hexing enemies of the king, using various dark spells. ) in exchange for these services, king william granted armand a piece of land in wiltshire, seizing the property from it’s former landholders. the malfoy manor would over the next ten centuries, be the home of the malfoy family. the family would expand the estate even further by annexing more property from surrounding muggles but also gain more riches by coming into contact with muggles and making money off of their ways. properly doing business with them. ( this was before the international statute of wizarding secrecy. of which the malfoys initially opposed the imposition of the statute. upon the realization that further opposition would distance them from the new heart of power being the newly formed ministry of magic, they cut all ties with muggle families and became supportive of the statute. holding all denial that they had ever fraternized with non magic families. ) ( malfoys had historically been associated with high-born muggle circles, such as royalty and aristocracy, which, in part, resulted in their vast collection of muggle treasures and works of art. all of which are stored within the manor. )
I. DRIVEWAY. " they turned right, into a wide driveway that led off the lane. the high hedge curved with them, running off into the distance beyond the pair of impressive wrought-iron gates barring the men’s way… the source of the noise proved to be nothing more than a pure-white peacock, sturring majestically along the top of the hedge. “ — description of severus snape and yaxley walking along the driveway.
the gravel driveway to the manor house is wide and has a large hedge curving alongside it. the driveway and hedge go past a pair of wrought-iron gates. these gates permit select individuals ( those who make some sort of salute ) to pass through them as if they are smoke, and with others the iron contorts into a face, which demands the purpose of the person trying to enter the manor. the yew hedge is known to have albino peacocks roving along the top of it. the outside of the manor is grand and the land surrounding it is vast, filling many acres. those acres contain numerous types of trees and various plant and perhaps other animal life.
II. THE MANOR. " a handsome manor house grew out of the darkness at the end of the straight drive, lights glinting in the diamond-paned downstairs windows. somewhere in the dark garden beyond the hedge a fountain was playing… the hallway was large, dimly lit, and sumptuously decorated, with a magnificent carpet covering most of the stone floor. the eyes of the pale-faced portraits on the walls followed snape and yaxley as they strode past. “ — description of the manor and the entrance hall.
malfoy manor is a " handsome manor house " surrounded by elaborate gardens, including a fountain. the front door swings inward at the approach of a person ( or perhaps just a select group of people ) without anyone visibly opening it. the hallway is large, dimly lit, carpet covering the stone floor. the walls of the entrance hall display pale-faced portraits lining the walls ( presumably former malfoy family portraits ), and at the end of the hall is the bronze-handled door to the drawing room.
III. THE DRAWING ROOM. " the drawing room was full of silent people, sitting at a long and ornate table… illumination came from a roasting fire beneath a handsome marble mantelpiece surmounted by a gilded mirror. " — description of the drawing room.
the drawing room was a widely proportioned room. probably the grandest room of the house, it had ceilings 30 feet high, two chandeliers, and a pipe organ at one end. it had a long ornate table, where the death eaters and voldemort sat during their meeting. also, during the death eater meeting, the usual furniture was pushed carelessly up against the walls. the drawing room has a ‘handsome’, ornate marble mantelpiece with a gilded mirror which has an intricately scrolled frame on top. many of the known activities of the death eaters took place in the drawing room, which had dark purple walls with more portraits, and a large crystal chandelier, which was eventually destroyed by dobby ( their house elf ) during the escape of several prisoners. It was probably restored ( by magic ) to where it was previously hung.
IV. CELLAR. during voldemorts stay in the manor, this room functioned as a holding cell for prisoners. this room is one hundred percent escape proof with only house elves able to bypass the room’s securities. it is below ground level, no light, damp floored, and made of stone with stone beams . the family’s collection of dark artefacts are hidden below within the cellar to prevent any being seized during ministry raids. one such raid having been conducted in december 1992. considering that a vast amount of dark artefacts reside in the cellar, this makes it an immensely dangerous room to step foot in if you’re not fully aware of what is held in the room. touch the wrong thing and you could possibly die.
V. ITEMS WITHIN THE MANOR. because of their association with muggle royalty, they gained a vast collection of muggle treasures and works of art. they also have an abundance of dark artefacts. some items can be bewitched by dark magic for various purposes, which is where the name dark artefacts originates from. it is unsure what these items specifically are, but draco keeps a small amount of them in his bedroom along shelves and around the house displayed. he keeps a lot of his own dark artefacts, cursed items, taxidermized dark magical beings. there are also journals from every malfoy stored, detailing their lives during that period and about muggle societies during that time. including the journal of his own father, and dracos own.

Wicker circle chair Placement
It doesn’t matter how big or how small your house is, what matters is how well you have decorated your house. Having a well-furnished small apartment is far better than having a big home which is difficult to maintain. The domain of “well-furnished” is not only limited to fresh-smelling paint and lavish woodwork but also includes modern styled furniture. Today, the market is full of eye-pleasing furniture that includes unique shaped sofas, round couches, solid wood coffee tables and edgy armchairs decorated with royal looking cloth and fine motifs.
But are you someone who loves to sit on a bean bag to do office work or just to relax? Are you someone who looks for modern furniture with a plus point of extra comfort? Then you are in the right place. I’m going to introduce you to a chair that is going to provide you the comfort of a bean bag but will last much longer than it. It is called wicker circle chair.
Wicker chairs or furniture are made up of rattan. Rattan is a naturally renewable palm that grows in the tropical regions of Asia and Australia. In Asia, rattan furniture is very common and is an invaluable part of rural people’s livelihoods, especially in South and Southeast Asia. In Bali and Maldives, you might find rattan furniture in top-notch resorts and hotels. One basic rattan product that is used by people of rural areas, as well as urban areas in Asia, is rattan baskets. Nowadays, Rattan furniture which includes sofas, tables, bookshelves, cupboards and much more is gaining fame across the globe due to its unique look and dazzling appearance. In the United States, rattan and cane furniture have become a lighter option for the heavy furnishings being produced. It is regularly being used indoors and outdoors.
Rattan furniture’s cost varies from being very reasonable to a little expensive, but not as expensive as wooden furniture. Also, rattan wicker furniture comes into multiple variants thus gives you a vast choice to choose from.
The round wicker chair also comes into different sizes and has multiple variants. Let’s look at them.
Papasan Natural Rattan Wicker Rocking Round Chair
This papasan swivel chair would instantly enhance the look of your living room. You can place it next to a deep red painted wall or in the favorite corner of your room. You will certainly enjoy its comfort. Please note that it is a single person chair. It combines a sustainable rattan frame with exclusive rattan weaving. It is lightweight enough to be moved easily yet stable and sturdy so as not to tip over easily. The best thing about this chair is that it usually comes with a plain fully tufted huge cushion which adds to its comfort.
Usually, rattan products are perfectly made up of good quality products and are crafted in a very fine manner, but they demand a bit extra care than wooden furniture. If you are interested to buy one, then you can buy it from here at Amazon.

Vintage Wicker Cone Chair
A person always drools over great design, from fashion to furniture. He is always in search of things that provide him comfort yet look fashionable and trendy. Designers usually take their inspiration from ancient, vintage goods and try to create a new product that is a composition of several vintage ideas. One such design is of this wicker chair.
The sitting portion of the chair is handmade from sturdy wicker while the legs are made up of solid wrought iron. The hairpin-shaped legs of this chair give it a modern look. This chair also serves for one person sitting.
This chair is perfect to be placed in front of a chinoiserie painted wall or even outdoor on the terrace. To your choice, you can place this chair in your study room as well, near the window so that you can enjoy reading your favorite books with extra concentration and comfort. You can also make a vintage corner in your house where you can hang some monochrome pictures of family on the wall. Put any vintage instrument like a music player on the table and place this chair alongside the table.
If you own a big home with more surface area in a bathroom, you can place this wicker cone chair in a corner, in front of your bathtub with some towels, scented candles and artificial planters on it to present vintage and organized look. But this is very superficial to say because we don’t own large living spaces like Kylie Jenner and has small or normal sized bathrooms.
To add more style, you can place printed square-shaped cushions or can place a fur cloth on this chair. It is preferred that you place vibrant colored cushions on it to enhance the look of the chair.
Ebony Wicker Egg Chair Placement in small living room
This is just another design of a wicker chair that will catch your eyes. The sitting portion of the chair is of black color and is made up of rattan material weaved in wicker style in a round shape. The back is a little long and is bent backward to give you extra support and comfort. The legs of the chair are made up of wood and extend outwards. The overall appearance of the chair is attractive and elegant.
This chair is perfect to be placed in a pair of two with a wicker table in the center. You can place them in your living room in front of light-colored chiffon/net curtains. The other option for placing this chair is to place it as a single chair in front of a vibrant-colored wall such as yellow, sky blue, turquoise etc. with a wooden floor lamp on the side. You can also place this type of chairs in your office or in waiting areas of beauty salons and nail bars.
If you can’t find the same, you might find a nearly similar variant of it easily in various stores or online.

Peacock Inspired Wicker Chair
The bird peacock also called as peafowl, is of high importance in Asian culture. The Greeks learned of the peacock only after Alexander the Great’s conquest – Aristotle called it a Persian bird. It has beautiful blue-eyed feathers tail which, in Indian culture, symbolizes wealth and prosperity. In decorative art, it symbolizes dignity and beauty. Before the invention of writing pens, peacock feathers were used for writing purposes. In Asian crafts, you will frequently find peacock inspired crafts.
Since rattan wicker furniture has a strong association with Asian countries, you will find peacock inspired variants in it as well. The peacock chair started as a photography prop before becoming a symbol of a movement. The peacock chair has taken its seat in history, supporting not only the backsides of the rich and famous but also playing a key part in the Black Panther movement. The intricate design is one that has made its way in and out of fashion throughout the ages.
To give your home a cultural yet modish look, this natural colored, peacock-inspired wicker chair/sofa is the perfect fit. It is totally made up of rattan material with a seat of wicker weaving and is thus very light weight to move around. The multiple legs of the chair not only give it extra support but also enhances its beauty.
You can place it indoor, in your TV lounge in front of a plain white wall, or near your green house with a green background. To enhance the look, place either one or three differently printed but similar colored cushions on it. Also, if you are not going to use it much for sitting purposes, you can place small artificial planters in the corner of its sitting area for decoration.

You can buy these peacock chairs on etsy or amazon.
1950s Mid Century Modern Wicker Chair
Mid-century style takes us back to a time of renewal as post-war America suburbanized, although its era covers pre-world war II through the 1960s. If you’re looking to add a smidge of the space age to your space, consider starting with basic accent pieces. This two-seater sofa made up of classic wood-colored rattan weaved in wicker style can be right at home in the living room or bedroom next to your clear glass window.
Its kidney bean-shaped seat with curvy armrests and mid-length arch-shaped back gives it a unique royal look. The bottom of this chair is also made up of rattan strands twisted in V-shape to present a modish look.
To make the seat more comfortable, add soft but thin cushions on the seats and thick pillows, embellished with thread tassels, on the back.
Since it is completely made up wicker, it would demand some extra care. I would suggest you not to put it in front of the window where sunlight falls directly. Also make sure, when buying, that the bottom has rubber pads so that the material couldn’t directly get in contact with the floor.
You can buy this mid-century wicker chair from chairish.com. It is listed as $1750 at the moment.
Southport patio egg wicker chair
The Southport patio egg chair is a fun and unique addition to any outdoor or indoor living space. Large circular-shaped with metal legs and visually interesting enough to stand on its own, it can also still fit into a larger arrangement with ease. This wicker egg chair with cushions supports you from every angle, making it the perfect place to curl up with a good book or podcast.
Combined with warm textiles, natural wood, and bright vibrant or plain white walls, the Egg wicker chair can help your room combine farmhouse and shabby-chic styles.
You can buy this Southport patio egg wicker chair on Amazon by clicking here.
Hanging Wicker Chair
Treat yourself to a time out in a hanging chair. A hanging wicker chair is surely a showstopper and is all you need to spend your leisure time on while reading a book or chilling casually. A hanging wicker chair is usually completely made up of rattan material and is round with no pointed edges. The weaving style is often different which lets you choose your favorite design from a wide range. Due to the variance of craftsmanship going into each chair, every piece has individualism and uniqueness in some of the pattern detailing.
The most common and easily available pattern of a hanging wicker chair is reminiscent of tree branches intersecting each other creating small squares throughout. The borders are curvy, and the core frame is standard to ensure consistency in shape and comfort. The sitting portion of the chair is a little deeper on the inside to give you a cozy cocoon-like feel. It will embrace your body with its nest-like form.
These chairs usually come with big tufted cushions that fit on the seats but if they don’t, then you can place several printed pillows and cushions on it in order to make it comfortable.
A hanging chair for couples
If you are a couple who loves to cuddle on cold cozy evenings, then this iconic double seater hanging wicker chair can be your new favorite place to embrace each other’s presence. It is usually oval and offers enough surface area for two people to sit and relax. The cavernous sitting area of the chair lets you and your partner sink back thus creating a cradling effect.
As found on Alibaba
Another design of a hanging wicker chair is this more basic seat-like design. It is less relaxing than the previous two mentioned but looks very chic when hung anywhere in your house specifically where natural sunlight strikes more. This basic brown colored chair hung with a natural-colored rope gives a boho-chic look.
This is a flower pattern cushion on a couple’s wicker chair. As seen on yoycart
Wicker hanging chair with stand
If you want to buy them mainly for outdoor purposes, then I would suggest the one that is made up of luxurious synthetic rattan fiber. It doesn’t get ruined by rain or sunlight. Woven texture, gentle curves, and organic appeal enhance the modern look of this outdoor swing. Its egg shape makes it an eye-catching addition by the pool or on the lawn. Its all-weather cushion wears a machine-washable cover that’s both water and fade resistant granting lasting comfort. Because it is made up of synthetic rattan, it comes into different colors like black, white, red other than the natural rattan color.
You can buy this Southport patio egg wicker chair on Amazon by clicking here.
Where to place wicker hanging chair?
They are ideal for outside use and look gorgeous on a deck, patio, hanging with a rope from a branch of a tree. You can also hang them from the ceiling of your TV lounge with a heavy-duty chain to bring the summer swing feeling inside the house.
Except for hanging it with the ceiling, you can buy a wicker hanging chair with stand (either 1 stand or 2 stands) for giving extra stability and adjustable spring kit. The benefit of this stand is that when it’s sunny you can bring your chair to the poolside or garden; if it’s warm but rainy, take it to your porch, and if it’s cold and snowy outside, just bring it in and enjoy your comfy hanging chair in the warmth of your living room or bedroom.
You can also hang single person chairs in a pair of two in your terrace or in your sitting lounge with a rattan made wicker table in the center having a nice vintage table mats on it.
Round wicker dining chairs placement
Wicker and rattan dining chairs are ideal for a classic country look, bringing back the warmth and elegance of the past, but they also have enough contemporary flair to perfectly fit modern interior designs. And if you get a little bored with their natural look, you can easily give them a color makeover and use them as accent chairs.
I strongly prefer indoor and outdoor vintage setting, so this collection of wicker rattan chairs couldn’t be passed up by me. If you also like wicker furniture, then this set of dining chairs may prove to be a special proposition for you. Classic wicker weave design with arched backs and slightly sloping arms, carefully profiled back thus providing support for the spine and completed with soft, tufted seat cushions of your favorite color is a must-have.
You can place these chairs in a set of six or eight around a simple rectangle-shaped wooden dining table either in the kitchen, TV lounge, terrace or in the backyard of your house.
Event decor with wicker furniture
Celebrating small events like engagement ceremonies, bridal shower or birthday parties at home not only proves to be budget-friendly but also gives you more nostalgic moments. Adding a bit of small elements like flowers or fairly lights can give you a photo-perfect and chic décor.
If you’re searching for a way to bring earthy touches to your engagement décor, you need to look for materials made from natural sources. If you were planning a rustic event, you might lean towards unfinished, oaky woods, but if you’re preparing for a bohemian-inspired affair, all you want is to bookmark rattan goods. For example; these two peacock chairs, placed in front of a rattan room divider with a string of flowers hanging over the divider is a perfect place for you and your better half to exchange the rings at. It is also creating the perfect backdrop for your special day portraits.
Moreover, for creating DIY photobooths on your bridal shower, you can also decorate your hanging wicker chair with multiple strings of artificial flowers that match your dress code and battery-operated fairy lights.
As seen on phillymag: beautiful decor for a wedding by using peacock wicker chair. Nice photo-shoot with wicker furniture.
Where to buy round wicker chair and its cushion?
If you are living in Asia, then you can easily buy these wicker chairs from nearby shops. In some parts of Asian countries, there are big markets which has multiple shops of wicker furniture. They not only have a wide variety of ready-made wicker chairs but also offer you a made-to-order option so that you can get your desired design and shape.
In the USA, you can buy these from order one from Amazon.com because there are not so many shops which offer you your desired design. While in UK, and Europe, you can buy these from your nearby IKEA store but again, they do not offer multiple variants. So, Amazon.com is the best option to buy these chairs at a reasonable price with the assurance of good quality products.

How to take care of rattan made products
Every masterpiece demands some extra care that helps it to last longer than expected. The same is the case with rattan made products. Whether you choose to display your rattan indoors or outdoors, you need to learn a few important caring tips. Here are some methods that you can follow to take care of the product:
Clean the surface regularly. A monthly or even weekly cleaning is the best way to protect your rattan furniture and prevent major damage.
Use your vacuum’s brush attachment on woven panels and furniture crevices. A dry brush with a medium bristle can also be used for cleaning by hand.
Use detergent and a cloth to scrub out stains as soon as they occur. For more serious damage like cracking or splitting of the wood, try boiled linseed oil to put moisture back into the material.
Do NOT drag wicker chairs around whose bottoms are also made up of fiber. Doing so will result in the splitting of fibers.
Use felt pads or rubber stoppers to protect the feet of cane and rattan furniture.
Natural plant fibers require a certain level of humidity. Keep furniture away from areas of severe heat as this can warp or dry out the furniture.
Rattan fibers can fade in strong light. This is a natural process and not necessarily bad. However, if possible, rotate furniture on a regular basis to evenly distribute the fading.
Treat the rattan or cane with boiled linseed oil and raise the humidity level of the space if any splitting occurs due to dryness.

365 Days Of Art 2018
First off, this is going to be a long post.
I have decided to make a drawing challenge list for an entire year. Ya sounds crazy but I’ve always been a bit eccentric.
This is also going to be my New Years resolution, so starting January 1st I will be picking a subject at random every day. Just need to find a big jar ^_^
I will be working in any media, not just pencil. The great thing about this challenge is that I can experiment with different media. This also takes me back to my College days, where we did a lot of experimenting e.g with sticks, feathers, I even made a printing tile out of form I found in a Pizza box.
Why am I doing this? I want to start drawing and painting again and I’ve always found it very therapeutic.
I will be posting each piece on my new art blog and in my Deviant Art gallery.
Feel free to use this list yourself and enjoy ^_^

What the casting of the next Doctor Who will tell us about the BBC
by Alec Charles
If, frozen in time in 1989, an old-school Doctor Who fan were roused from cryogenic slumbers, he (and in those days it would almost certainly have been a “he”) would be astonished to see the direction taken by the latest series. He’d note that the hero’s arch-enemy had been reincarnated as both a man and a woman, that his companion was both black and gay, and that the show’s audience demographic had broadened (beyond anyone’s wildest expectations) to include women.
But he might be reassured that two things had not changed. The BBC is still beset by government animosity – and the British press still speculate obsessively about the possibility of a female Doctor Who.
In 1985, Margaret Thatcher’s government had established the Peacock Committee to explore “replacing the BBC license fee with advertising revenues”. This was partly prompted by an antagonism towards the BBC’s perceived liberal bias, a hostility escalated by the BBC’s refusal to adopt jingoistic rhetoric in its coverage of the Falklands War – which went as far as seeing allegations of treason being levelled against the broadcaster.
In July 1986, the home secretary, Douglas Hurd, had thus reported his government’s enthusiastic response to Peacock’s proposals to promote a “free broadcasting market including the recommendation to increase the proportion of programmes supplied by independent producers”.
Two years earlier, that champion of popular broadcasting, Michael Grade, had moved from commercial television to become controller of BBC One. Although feared by traditionalists as heralding a “tidal wave of vulgarian programming”, Grade reestablished the BBC’s reputation as a bold and popular innovator. Those who saw Grade’s ascendancy as a sop to Thatcherism would have been reassured by the controversy he sparked in 1988 by broadcasting Tumbledown, a TV play depicting the indifference of the state towards a serviceman wounded in the Falklands.
As a result of Grade’s forceful endorsement, the drama was, as Mark Lawson has observed, “transmitted despite sustained political and military complaints”. So much, then, for the view of Michael Grade as a corporate collaborator. As noted in a Guardian profile of Grade:
To every generation of BBC executive there is the one programme which irritates the government so much it defines the corporation’s relations with Downing Street for a decade and Tumbledown was Grade’s.
The BBC website notes that Grade “was not afraid to make tough decisions – like scrapping sci-fi favourite Doctor Who”. Grade took the series off air for 18 months and fired its star, Colin Baker – but it was his successors who actually cancelled the programme. Grade remains demonised by die-hard fans as the executive who dispatched their favourite show. Yet his opposition to Doctor Who was indicative not only of his own confidence, but of the institution’s confidence under his management. It was a bold decision, symbolically important in his bid to modernise the organisation, to put a moribund old favourite out of its misery.
Yet Grade was not dogmatic about Doctor Who. When Russell T Davies resurrected the series in 2005, Grade wrote to congratulate the BBC’s director-general, Mark Thompson on this “classy, popular triumph”. Indeed, Thompson and Davies’s bold move in bringing the series back was only possible as a result of Grade’s bold decision to send it into exile two decades earlier.
Under pressure
Let’s fast forward to the present day – 13 years on from when the Hutton Report scarred the BBC’s confidence and led to the resignation of chair Gavin Davies and director-general Greg Dyke. It’s also nine years since the on-air conduct of Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross prompted the resignation of the controller of Radio 2 and five years since the Jimmy Savile scandal broke. Just last year, the findings of Dame Janet Smith’s investigation emphasised that, in that latter context, the BBC had “missed opportunities to stop monstrous abuse”.
In 2015, a battered BBC dithered in its response to the latest incident involving the presenter of its global franchise Top Gear. The organisation prevaricated for a fortnight between the suspension of Jeremy Clarkson following a “fracas” with a producer and the presenter’s termination.
The loss of Top Gear was a big blow for the BBC. IDS.photos via Wikimedia Commons, CC BY
The following year, the organisation’s confidence was further dented when Clarkson’s replacement, Chris Evans, quit following poor reviews. Clarkson’s successful move that year to Amazon Prime (along with co-hosts Hammond and May) did not bolster the BBC’s morale.
The situation was hardly improved by the arrival of the government of Theresa May and Philip Hammond, and their allies’ claims of the “pessimistic and skewed” BBC response to Brexit – despite the robust defences advanced by Lord Hall, Nick Robinson, Ivor Gaber, The Guardian and a sizeable group of MPs.
In 2015, the BBC relinquished The Voice, one of its most successful formats, to a competitor. Late in 2016 – as a result of production processes promoted by Peacock three decades earlier – the institution lost another treasured asset to another competitor, the quintessentially “Beebish” Great British Bake Off. Having lost its Voice, Auntie was now in danger of losing her identity.
Going, going, gone: another BBC crown jewel. Mark Bourdillon via Flickr, CC BY
Michael Grade had once fought off bids by rivals to usurp the BBC’s rights to the popular American import Dallas. But today’s BBC lacks Grade’s showmanship. It now bravely clings on to its rights to broadcast such staples as Wimbledon and the Olympics.
Is there a Doctor in the house?
That is why the choice of the next star of Doctor Who counts. In its international sales, critical success and popular following, the series ranks alongside such titles as Top Gear, Bake Off and Sherlock. The new series – Peter Capaldi’s last – is scheduled to start on Saturday April 15. It will be the programme’s tenth full season since Davies brought it back. The corporation is clearly keen to retain and regain its success as a highly remunerative global brand.
The casting of its lead may signal the BBC’s confidence as a bold trendsetter – or not. Who it chooses to play the Doctor may be even more significant than the all-female Ghostbusters remake or Tamsin Greig’s Malvolia – or than Idris Elba’s chances of playing Bond.
(In a show of exquisitely pertinent impertinence, Doctor Who’s new cast member Pearl Mackie has this week declared her own desire to play James Bond.)
Lorna Jowett, of Northampton University, has suggested that the relentless white maleness of this pointedly progressive series’ lead has prompted “increasing criticism”. A 2015 episode provocatively presented the regeneration of a white male Time Lord into a black woman, and this prompted renewed press speculation – speculation rife since the 1980s – that the next actor in the role need not be male or white.
When it was revealed last month that the Time Lord’s new companion would be a lesbian, showrunner Steven Moffat expressed surprise that anyone thought this was a big deal, commenting: “The correct response should be, ‘What took you so long?’” This was, after all, the show that had given us John Barrowman’s glorious bisexual Captain Jack.
The hype around the casting of the series’ next lead may be seen as a barometer of the BBC’s sense of confidence in itself as a cultural driver and leader of social mores. Since Peter Capaldi announced his departure in January there has been much speculation as to who might fill his boots. David Harewood threw his hat into the ring, while Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Natalie Dormer, Olivia Colman and Tilda Swinton have all garnered support.
Confidence motion
In recent days, however, speculation that the BBC may cast a woman (and/or an actor of colour) in this flagship role has given way to tabloid reports that they may make a rather safer choice. “Hopes of a woman have been dashed,” reported The Sun, while The Mirror announced that TV bosses determined to recapture “the glory days of the David Tennant era have set their sights on finding a dashing male actor”.
If the Mirror is right, we may at least hope that Sacha Dhawan is in the frame. This strategy would, however, exclude both Thandie Newton and Vicky McLure – despite their thrilling performances in the latest Line of Duty – from the running.
Thandie Newton and Vicki McClure in Line of Duty. World Productions/ BBC / Bernard Walsh
After Hutton, Savile, Top Gear and Bake Off, the question as to whether a BBC rocked by waves of crisis and beset by political hostilities will seek to retrench or renew itself is of massive cultural and political significance. Will the organisation see this critical period as an opportunity to emulate Michael Grade’s modernising chutzpah – aligned with the cultural zeitgeist, yet unafraid of antagonising the establishment?
The impending decisions it takes as to the casting of this particular role may offer a gauge as to its confidence (and dexterity) in negotiating a route towards a post-Brexit Britain. It will certainly be something worth watching for.

Raja Ravi Varma: portrait of an artist
How we see Indian Goddess Saraswati today, with a peacock by her side or an elephant with a garland at its trunk – in reverence to a splendid Lakshmi who’s risen on a lotus with poise – is thanks to Realist painter, Raja Ravi Varma. Culture Trip discovers the man who created Indian calendar art.
Born in 1848 in the village of Kilimanoor, Kerala, Ravi Varma belonged to royal lineage. Lore has it that he was spotted drawing pictures on the walls of his house by his uncle. The uncle brought him to the royal palace of Thiruvananthapuram where the young Ravi Varma was instructed in art. The palace exposed him to the various Indian and Western styles of the times.
Lakshmi | Raja Ravi Varma/Wiki Commons
Nineteenth-century India was popular in the West for its miniature paintings. These were majorly Mughal and Rajput paintings – the former documenting their reign while the latter celebrated Hindu deities, done usually on cloth with colours made from minerals and ink. Other forms were majorly regional – Pattachitra – a cloth-based scroll painting in Orissa, Madhubani art from Bihar, or the Thanjavur painting originating in Tanjore. While they all varied in form, a thread of commonality weaved them – the flat rendition of the figures.
Oil as a medium was just being introduced, and not many who knew the technique. Ravi Varma taught himself the medium by observing a Dutch painter, Theodor Janson, who was on a visit to the court. He grew to be the celebrated Raja Ravi Varma, feted as the father of modern Indian art for primarily two reasons. The first was that he was the first one to fuse European academic techniques with Indian sensibilities.
Saraswati | Raja Ravi Varma/Wiki Commons
Adopting realism, Ravi Varma focused much on the details, the play of light and shadows, adding depth by using perspective in his paintings. Suddenly the folds of a sari fluttered, the hair coiled, and the eyes expressed a longing. With thicker strokes, the jewels that generously adorned his subjects shimmered in a perceived angle of light. His paintings are an abundance of life – trees heavy with fruits and flowers, waters resplendent with its many hues, and the subjects almost waiting to blink their eyes and continue their motion.Jatayu, in a bid to save Sita from Ravana, is a grand expression, as is Shakuntala’s longing stance with her head turned in the glance that narrates her legend with Dushyant. A very doting Arjuna coaxing Subhadra, or Menaka in a bid to distract Vishwamitra are stories captured in a frame. This — an augmentation of abundance displayed in most Indian paintings — ranging from miniatures to Kalamkari to Gond.
Ravi Varma’s expeditions through the country’ ever-changing topography is reflected in his large body of work. His quest also got a fillip with the railways that were being laid down in the country at that time. Lesser celebrated over the century, his younger brother Raja Raja Varma, a fine painter in his own right, assisted Ravi Varma and managed his businesses. Rupika Chawla, who authored Raja Ravi Varma: Painter of Colonial India, points out that Ravi Varma was conscious about his clientele — the princes and the dewans he portrayed — an ambitious mix that made him one of the most sought-after artists. Besides being one of the finest Indian artists to do portraits, Ravi Varma made his niche with the pauranic paintings that have made him so popular.
Often reckoned as the father of Indian calendar art, Raja Ravi Varma exquisitely breathed life into the Hindu mythical characters. Up until then, most of these characters that were painted two dimensional, and the deities were recognised only by their iconography. Owing to modern realism, Raja Ravi Varma offered them a face with which to be identified. Suddenly all those episodes from the epics that so far were painted as various Pattchitra or carved in stone came alive — in flesh and blood.
Krishna as Envoy | Raja Ravi Varma/Wiki Commons
The second reason that made the painter so remarkable was his vision – he founded a printing press in Mumbai in 1894 with the help of a German expert Fritz Schleicher that churned out inexpensive oleographs of his paintings. Suddenly, the bazaars were inundated with posters of a plethora of deities. God descended from the temple stone and made itself comfortable in small homes in dingy gullies. If his gorgeous portraits made him a blue-eyed artist for his crowned patrons, his cheap prints made him a commoner’s painter.
His oeuvre of pauranic paintings was instrumental in constructing a national consciousness. It was also at a time in India’s chronology when national sensibilities were taking root. His Veda-reflective art gelled with the momentum, gaining popularity and at the same time feeding the consciousness. This is perhaps one reason why his equally talented brother Raja Raja Varma, a landscape artist, couldn’t muster the recognition his brother did. Painter A. Ramachandran, who was the force behind a grand exhibition in 1993 that revived the idea of Raja Ravi Varma as the father of modern Indian art, fell upon a copy of Raja Raja Varma’s pleasingly written diary. Rupika Chawla explains how in one of the excerpts, Raja Raja Varma writes: ‘Today I painted the pillar in Hansa Damayanti,’ while Ravi Varma painted Damayanti.
It’s interesting to note how Indian cinema was seeded in Raja Ravi Varma’s story, of course owing to global technological advancement. A young photographer, Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, joined Ravi Varma at his press, excelling in lithographs and oleographs. A little later he set up his own press before eventually reeling India’s first moving picture – Raja Harishchandra in 1912. Raja Ravi Varma passed away in 1906.
Jatayu Vadha | Raja Ravi Varma/Wiki Commons
For decades after his death, his prints continued to adorn the walls of middle-class homes; however, soon after, other schools of art came forth. The Bengal School of art, as part of the nationalist movement, reacted sharply against Raja Ravi Varma’s European academic style of painting. Along the same line, a few art historians condemned his work for the reasons that otherwise made him so noteworthy – mixing Western academic techniques with Indian subjects.
Hansa Damyanti | Raja Ravi Varma/Wiki Commons
Nonetheless, in his heyday, the globally known, much awarded artist set the visual language for India. He set the template for an enormous sea of Hindu visual religious sensibilities from prayer books’ covers to large portraits for temples and eventually a base for the next craft — film/TV to build itself upon. Unknowingly though. the visual language proliferated — from match-box labels, tin sweets boxes, political posters, calendar art to early Indian cinematic aesthetics, his influence continues to linger. Many even laud him as the father of Indian advertising, and the pop culture of the day love to idolise him as the father of Indian kitsch.

'Ted Lasso' and the Journey From Viral Promo to TV Series
Jason Sudeikis reprises his role as a befuddled coach in England, with his viral NBC promos evolving into a full-on TV show. He explains the story of how it happened.
There’s a scene in Ted Lasso, where the title character–Jason Sudeikis’s American football coach who abruptly turns into a Premier League manager–sprints to the assistant referee in the middle of a crucial match after raising his flag for an offside call.
“Come on, now! What do you mean? How’s that offside?” complains Lasso, with his characteristic Kansan drawl as the linesman looks at him with confusion.
“What?” asks the official.
Lasso gets closer. “No, I’m serious. How’s that offside...I don’t understand it yet.”
This lack of complete understanding and across-the-pond confusion is one way to describe the essence of Apple TV+’s latest sitcom, which originated from a 2013 NBC Sports promo. That's where Sudeikis introduced his character as part of the network’s acquisition of the Premier League broadcast rights.
youtube
The idea was simple. Lasso, an intense, wide-eyed college football coach from Kansas City arrives in London and enters the alien world of the Premier League. In the promos, he takes over Tottenham (the following season,
he returns as head coach of youth girls' team St. Catherine Fighting Owls), questioning why players don’t wear more pads and teaching the art of flopping. He has no knowledge of the game or its cultural and historical significance. It was a satiric outlook at two different worlds seen through the eyes of a naïve American, and for NBC, it was a way to both attract a loyal, knowledgeable soccer fan as well as appeal to a new audience.
In the end, it worked, as both promos (2013 and 2014) went viral and gained a tremendous amount of attention. Combined, the videos have generated more than 20 million views on YouTube and helped the network build a strong foundation for its Premier League audience.
It’s been six years since those promos aired, and soccer in the U.S.–without Ted Lasso–has grown tremendously in popularity. So how was the character revived?
“I guess it’s a dozen little things that go right that you’re willing and ready to receive,” Sudeikis told Sports Illustrated. “After doing the second video (in 2014), it really unlocked elements of the character that we found very, very fun to write and portray and view the world through. So, one day in 2015, my partner Olivia (the actress and filmmaker Olivia Wilde) came up to me one day and said, ‘You know, you should do Ted Lasso as a show,’ and I said, ‘I don’t know,’ but then after marinating on it, I thought maybe this could happen.”
youtube
In spring of the same year, Sudeikis got together with his creative partners and writers, Joe Kelly and Brendan Hunt–the three of them started together with Chicago’s well-known improv group The Second City and Amsterdam’s Boom Chicago; Hunt also plays Lasso’s assistant coach and confidante Coach Beard–and powered through for a week to see if they could create a show out of it.
“When you have a germ of an idea, you don’t know if it’s something you say out loud or if it’s a tweet or a letter or a screenplay, who knows," Sudeikis said. "So, we sat down, and we were able to bang out a pilot pretty quick in that week. As well as outlining six to 10 episodes of the first season. And that let us know, ‘O.K., there’s something here.’”
Despite the excitement for the idea, that’s all it was at that moment–an idea without a home. So, life continued, and the three friends left Ted Lasso alone for a few years and diverted their focus to their respective careers.
“But that allowed us to get a little space from it, and low and behold, the showbiz gods looked and smiled down on us and brought Bill to our doorstep,” Sudeikis said.
"Bill" is Bill Lawrence, the experienced television writer, producer and creative force behind award-winning shows such as Scrubs, Cougar Town and Spin City. Lawrence entered the frame in 2017 when he and Sudeikis played pickup basketball a couple of nights a week and one night, the idea of Ted Lasso came up. After a few more chats, he read the script and the concept and was immediately interested.
“I wanted to work with Jason Sudeikis, he just cracks me up. I thought he was awesome on SNL, whenever he shows up in a movie, I’m immediately into it and he seems like that dude you want to hang with,” Lawrence said. “I’d also seen those sketches, the promotional videos for the Premier League back when he did them and I thought they were so funny, and he said, 'What if we made that character three-dimensional and really rounded him out?' Ted Lasso can still be goofy and funny, but we could also have our version.”
And this was critical for Sudeikis. In the commercials, Lasso’s unawareness is funny and often endearing, but for a show, there had be more to him for the audience to not just laugh, but also root for him.
“I think Scrubs is a fantastic show. You can put the 10 best episodes of it up against any show,” Sudeikis said. “Bill writes male characters and relationships so beautifully, his use of music and dealing with heavy duty issues of life and death. And now, two years later, here we are talking about it. It’s actually really gonna happen and I can’t kind of believe it.”
Not only is the show happening (it premieres this Friday), but it also succeeds in its mission. Ted Lasso is warm, it’s funny and–like the main character–it has heart. Unlike the commercials, where Ted’s biggest trait is his buffoonery, the show celebrates his relentless thirst for hope. He is a man with passion, dignity and someone you for whom you cheer. Lasso is the eternal optimist, whose naivety is both a strength and a weakness, and just like J.D from Scrubs, Lasso is vulnerable (in the show, he actually leaves the U.S. to escape from a troubled marriage) and aches for comfort. That’s what he offers his new team in return–an arrogant, underachieving Premier League side controlled by a scorned owner. It’s not Tottenham this time around, but the fictional AFC Richmond.
Lawrence sees Lasso as the perfect example of the inspiring teacher. A sports version of Robin Williams's John Keating from Dead Poets Society, where his personality is a weapon against cynical reporters and resentful fans who naturally express their disgust at the thought of an American with no knowledge of the game taking over their beloved club.
“We all grew up with a favorite teacher or a favorite coach. They put us on a path. These people never force you into doing anything. It’s just good folks,” Lawrence said. “Me and Jason overlap cause we also like doing shows with heart and because it’s such a dumpster-fire time in the world, Jason really wanted to do a show that was hopeful and optimistic, and most sports movies have that. That’s what's at their core. It’s the underdog. We were trying to capture that optimism and hopefulness that comes with those iconic figures from your life, whether it’s a coach, a teacher or a parent.”
If there's a coach in the real Premier League that emits optimism and hopefulness, it's Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp, and Sudeikis admits that Lasso's character in the show is partly inspired by him.
“Man. When I heard about him taking his squad to go do karaoke, I was like, ‘hellooooo, story idea…’” said Sudeikis, who also admires Pep Guardiola. “I really love those coaches. I really like the way they handle themselves as leaders of an organization. They are guys who I would follow into a fist fight.”
Sudeikis loves the game but fully admits he still needs to do more before calling himself a hardcore, scholarly fan.
"I love the sport. My joke has been that I have a deep appreciation for it but a shallow understanding. But that’s why I keep company with Brendan and Joe, who know their stuff,” Sudeikis said. “But it’s still all new to me. Every time I go to see a match, I buy a kit for me at the gift shop and a kit for my little boy. I’m ready to be a fair-weather fan for whoever needs it [laughs]. I know people hate for me that, but that’s the truth.”
The showrunners put together a cast with colorful characters who add depth to the multiple plots. There’s the tough-as-nails veteran midfielder Roy Kent (surely inspired by Roy Keane and played by Brett Goldstein), the narcissistic Man City loanee Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster), the charismatic duo of Dani Rojas (Mexican star played by Cristo Fernandez) and Nigerian forward Sam Obisanya (Toheeb Jimoh). Nick Mohammed (who can be seen in Sky TV/Peacock’s Intelligence) also shines as the quiet kitman. It’s also refreshing to hear NBC’s Arlo White serving as the show’s commentator throughout AFC Richmond’s season.
But if there’s someone aside from Sudeikis's Lasso who steals the show, it’s Keeley Jones, the confident and no-nonsense TV celebrity/model/PR guru played by Juno Temple. She was the only actor who didn’t audition, as Sudeikis, who knew her work, wanted her in the show from the get-go.
“I met Juno with Olivia when they were on Vinyl (Mick Jagger and Martin Scorsese’s 2016 HBO show), so I’ve done karaoke with her. I’ve been in a room with her. I knew her,” Sudeikis said. “She’s so fun and dynamic and just pro-female. She’s just a kick-ass that lives with an excitement that’s fun to be around, and that’s a little bit of what the character had.”
In the end, Ted Lasso is exactly what an audience needs right now. It’s a story that makes you laugh and reminds you to smile at adversity. It’s a lesson that’s less about football management and more about unity, and the script works because it takes a hold of our differences and embraces them as one. And it echoes Lasso’s favorite Walt Whitman quote, “Be curious, not judgmental.”
Lasso is heroic, not because he commands respect but because he earns it. He is kind, because he doesn’t know any other way. But like us, he is also vulnerable, and that’s why we can relate to his journey.
“He’s more white rabbit than white knight, but he’s actually becoming the change he wants to see in the world, without any agenda,” Sudeikis said. “And these days, that’s unusual, both in real life and on television.”

Love Spotify and Pandora, but still want to play your beloved CDs? Bose is here to keep physical media alive. (Photo: HSN)
If you can’t let go of your old CDs and love listening to the radio, the Bose Wave Music System IV is the ticket. And for the 4th of July, HSN has temporarily dropped the price of this gem from $500 to just $300. That’s the lowest price we’ve found on the web right now — a savings of 40 percent.
This Bose speaker system projects crisp sound, and comes equipped with a Bluetooth receiver add-on, so you can wirelessly sync your smartphone or laptop to it. The design is elegant, minimal and slim, making it a seamless addition to your entertainment center or on its own in a bedroom, kitchen or living room. It also comes with a remote. If you enjoy waking up to the sound of music or the radio, you can program the system’s timer to sync up to your preferences too.
“Perfect sound system for the home,” wrote a five-star Bose reviewer. “The sound is simply stunning and fills the entire room. The radio reception is superb and the ability to play Internet radio via TuneIn brings this product firmly in the 2020s!”
New to HSN? Score an additional $20 off with promo code HSN2021 at checkout — and bring the price down to just 460 bucks. And if you’d rather not pay all at once (we get it), HSN lets you opt for five “FlexPays” of just $60, with no interest at all. Plus, free shipping!

On sale for $170 (was $230), the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 weighs just over a pound and features 32GB of storage (expandable up to 1TB via microSD card). That’s got it all over Apple’s entry level tablet, which isn’t expandable. And unlike the iPad, the Tab A7’s 10.4-inch display has a full HD widescreen for immersive viewing.
Also out-Apple-ing Apple? The A7’s camera set is better than the one that comes with the iPad. It has an eight-megapixel selfie cam with a five-megapixel rear shooter on the front for video calls. “Mostly use for mobile gaming. Tried to play PS4 remote play, and it worked,” reported a satisfied gamer. “Sound is great and build quality is better than iPad. Speed is seamless.”
